Black Chocobo Tail

So, in my random adventures I've noticed twice players riding Chocobo's with black tipped feathers (they are usually brown tipped). I tried to /tell this person and it said the person could not receive the /tell and when I tried to add them as a friend It said the player did not exist. That was strange, but what I really want to know is what barding is available that makes the tips black? Is this something you can get now? Anyone know or seen what I'm talking about?

Black tipped feathers should be the legacy chocobo really, don't think there's any barding or anything that change the colour of the feathers.

I believe what you are seeing is a legacy chocobo. This was a mount given to legacy players that paid a subscription during 1.0. I have one on my alt which was made on a non-legacy server. So legacy players that rerolled or made an alt on a new server would have this mount. No barding is available for it atm, but can tell it is a legacy chocobo for sure by looking for a tattoo on its beak.

It's definitely my favorite mount.

Your Chocobo is not a Her, all chocobos are raised in Ishgard and sold to the grand companies. they only sell the males so no one else can breed them.

Yeah, there is nothing defining where we got our legacy chocobo. They kinda just showed up. Nothing says they came from the GCs, etc
