It doesn't bind until Bahamuts Coil, right? At least I remember someone saying that. In case it does, it would kind of make the items even less worthful as Coil really is the only point in the game were the better gear might come in handy (but at that point you will already start replacing it). Here's the other thing that's good about i70 crafted vs darklight that people ignore or don't know about: It doesn't soulbind. With a mixture of buying and borrowing, I could gear up an alt job in a matter of minutes if I wanted to spend a bit of money. And when I replace my MNK's i70 with something better, I have some great entry-level gear to sell or lend if I needed to.
What's wrong with not having to farm dungeons repeatedly for a random chance at a random piece of gear? You can add a little more randomnness to that if you're also competing with others in the group for that piece of gear.
Square Enix has sort of bucked the trend with allowing players to play all classes with a single character; why not take another step forward, and get rid of the World of Warcraft standard of "grind dungeons until your eyes bleed until you have shiny purples; repeat process with every content patch"?
My Solution to the crafting jobs not having things to craft would be to make dungeon drops be up-gradable to +1 or +2 versions by CRAFTERS! Also people are hunting down shiny dungeon drops right now, but soon many people will realize that you can get extremely good gear ( on par almost certainly better ) if you risk the quad-melds.
Right now, I'm leveling WVR and ALC for the dyes and melding. Gathering is a nice change of pace, but I'm starting to see that NPC's sell it cheaper than the time spent gathering items 4 at a time (only lvl 15/16 on BTN/MIN).
It is discouraging to hear that you can't, in fact, craft items better than are dropped at end game. SE said it would be otherwise. Being that the game doesn't have much of a player-based economy (most items sell for less than 100 gil, what's the point?) the only reason to level crafting and gathering would be for endgame gear. If the game's designers want to handicap crafting... why include it in the game at all? What's the point?
edit: Agreed Amasai.
They already stated they are adding more craft recipes at a higher level. Soon craft will be on par, also. ilvl 70 crafted greens are better then most darklight gear because of materia slots.
Soon all the fools who grinded excessively for gear that isn't really super better than darklight, was completely unworthy the extra grind, and was unneeded to progress in the hardest dungeon in the game will cry me a river, indeed. They also mentioned nothing of higher level crafts in the live letter. They talked a lot about furniture tho. So, any ilvl80 gear that gets dropped from crystal tower will casually destroy this crafted gear.
Hand full of damn idiots keep justifying what they did as if it was full of sound logic. I hope they cry their eyes red. Its going to remind me of the people who chased the Hardmode Darnus Carrot only to have their precious white ravens nerfed to oblivion.
Good to know this if it's true.It doesn't bind until Bahamuts Coil, right? At least I remember someone saying that. In case it does, it would kind of make the items even less worthful as Coil really is the only point in the game were the better gear might come in handy (but at that point you will already start replacing it).
Ilvl70 accessories are best in slot for pretty much every class except tanks(I think). 600 HP over ilvl 90 rings and a DPS increase or slightly less DPS(i think increase)make them so much better it's not even a contest. Ilvl 70 armor is best in slot for almost all classes in numerous slots(except tanks) and ilvl 55 gear is better than darklight in numerous slots for a lot of classes(except tanks). The only useless crafting gear is weapons because relic/relic +1's are too easy/quick to get and too powerful for how easy they are to acquire.
Hilariously enough, the craft you say is the only useful one, cooking, is the most useless BY FAR. The only craft more useless is alchemy. They REALLY need to fix consumables in this game, they're too expensive and far too weak.
The reason why crafting high level items sucks is because you have to buy 9 of special reagents which cost you 1125 ttomes which is more than most darklight pieces and not as good they should lower the reagent requirements significantly but not ridiculously
