My understanding was that the HQ Ilvl 70 Stuff melded was decently better than DL. Regardless they are not really worth making and I agree crafting needs some love. I enjoy it so I will continue to level it as a break from AK runs. It should cost like a quarter of the tomes to make something of equivalent value for a crafter due to needing to level and have the stats to actually craft it.
