    Economy Lacks "Wow" Factor Items

    Because DoW/DoM get everything handed to them, or just grind it out for a bit, bam best armor in game; there's nothing you can buy that's interesting.


    XI had a lot of problems in it's economy, But even now I can sign on and say "there's something I'd like to save up and buy!"
    There was always some HQ rare item that was yes very expensive, but it gave you something to look forward to. And this is a different topic but also something that made a difference! Item with +5% haste gave a very noticeable increase in battle speed, Skill/spell speed is a joke in this game.

    I felt that way in XIV for a second; like I'm going to make HQ Vanya robe and Meld it up! It'll be so cool...

    Oh wait... I can grind AK for a few days and get something better? And I can't resell the old item?
    Oh; so there's absolutely no point to go through the massive work, time, and money?

    I can't think of one thing on the markets that's actually exciting.
    Sorry to be negative but it just really bothers me.

    Well that crafted gear is the best gear there is for its item level, but there is U/U gear of higher item levels, and the average player doesn't think it's worth it. I agree with your sentiment, especially now that we went from having HQ + 3 to "HQ is the new NQ."

    I'm not sure how to feel about this. It would be nice if there were items that stood out among the rest in the Marketplace. I'm also cognizant, however, that RMT would exploit any such items to hell and back if they had any ties to crafting. If these kinds of items were, say, part of the loot pool in dungeons and could be sold I don't think there'd be a major negative impact on the economy.

    Having said that, I think the devs are right in being cautious about introducing Marketplace items that could be like catnip to RMT.

    sorry I ment AK, yes Vanya is best in slot for 70 (or can be with lots of expensive melds) There's just no reason to.. I'm almost up to the 90 body piece and I've only helped a few friends in AK and Primals.


    It's just the time/effort/money of the order of gear in this game seems exactly backwards to me; gear that's best in game doesn't take that much time, it's very easily managed. You can farm gear far easier than it takes to craft it, which is just a huge insult to all the crafters.


    I did play FFXI for 9 years, so maybe I'm just used to working for what I get, I don't know.


    My personal belief about RMT is that no matter what they're going to try and make money; they already are!!
    Ruining the game isn't going to "save us" from RMT, It's like they're throwing out the baby with the bath water.

    Having "Wow cool" type items is never where RMT go; they look for the simplest, easy, and consistent way to make money.
    Like the fleet of BOTS in Coerthas claiming Sheep before they pop, standing in one place and using Blizzard to kill.

    Hmm, well I just crafted myself an HQ Heavy Darksteel Body piece what 5 IV materia just last night....and its pretty pimp. Haven't felt a rush like that since getting my 1st leaping boots on a kill back in the day ^^

    I agree with this thread for the most part. It's been pointed out before, but a large part of the reason this game doesn't have that same "I really want 'x'-armor" goal that players got during FFXI is because of the very, very fast rate of leveling and the ease of gathering decent gear from dungeons. Combine that with overall lackluster crafted gear, the inability to sell things that you've worn (you can't even pass it on to a fellow FC member, all you can do is materia-lize it), and the very high cost of creating the end-game crafted gear (that most people don't care about anyway), and you have a market system that many people aren't really all that interested in.


    I do hope they introduce some stuff to make the DoW/DoM classes care about the crafted goods, but for the time being, crafting is pretty much just something people do for themselves. The only exception is materia-melding, which... is really not very exciting.

    They got rid of gear swaps, and virtually all stat extra stats that made ff11 work and it physically cannot come back unless they remake the entire game... again, people should have seen this coming considering they announced exactly what they were doing and fought against it instead of for a failed system, mmo's will continue to start off big and crash big within a year or 2 until they stop trying to copy WoW. WoW is like facebook, it worked because they did it first.

    yeah it's kind of weird

    like i saw a guy in castrum in full vanya healer and was like that's cool looking then upon examination it was like +1 stat here -1 stat there compared to darklight and he wasn't shy about the greater than a million price tag it took him to make.

    and outside of crafting gear it seems everything on the way to 50 is pointless as well, its just odd
    I decided to power through goldsmith just because being able to deck out people in 5+ pieces of gear to bond and break for rank III materia fairly cheaply seemed like a good idea

    I penta-melded a pair of Gryphonskin kecks and the only thing better is af2 or allagan. That seems pretty useful to me.

    There's just too few items in the game in general. There's no randomized equipment. There's no drop tables from enemies. Crafted items are exactly the same as quest rewards. There's barely any uncommon/rare items and most of the small lot that there are can't be put on the marketplace.

    It's a mess, and if the name of the game is going to be gear at endgame, there needs to be much, much more variety.
