I also agree. Also from a selling point of view it is bad. Makes you sell a lot of small stacks since no one is ever gonna buy 99 of an item, when he maybe need just 5 or 6.

Exactly this.In your scenario, I would need to check my retainer quite often per day in order to maximize profitability. I would go back to my earlier post, SE had it right back in 1.0. You could sell as a stack or allow people to buy 1 at a time from a stack. Still do not know why they changed this from 1.0 to 2.0...
It's fine and likely better as it is now - with the exception of the Markeplace needing a Buy Orders option.
Being able to by small quantities from large stacks would make prices plummet far faster as everyone sticks up lower and lower numbers on their stack to be the lowest.
At least as the situation is now there are markets for both bulk quantities and selling in small stacks at somewhat higher prices - keeping the overall prices more stable instead of being a race to the bottom.
I hate both having to buy more items than I need and having to choose between having to post big stacks or nothing, because of the 40 items limit. This system is so annoying. Either increase the number of items you can post on the marketplace or make people able to buy fractions of stacks.
Making the AH similar to Eve Online's market boards will solve all of our problems imo.
Why no option to buy fractions from a full stack?
Laziness?
Programming issues?
Lag issues with multiple transactions?
What is the devs reason for not having this option?
@Mhyth - Personally the prices are over-inflated to begin with. To your point, your right prices will plummet to a more "stable" value. I hate using the word "stable" as its an oxymoron in economics. All you can really do is reduce standard deviation to be more like +/- 5% of avg price.
To stop the constant price undercutting, put the sales tax of the market on the front-end, i.e. when the item(s) are initially placed on the market and/or if the price is adjusted. It would reduce the constant "updating" of prices by 1 gil and would force people more towards avg price.
@mr_wazzabi - SE will say "its because of the limitations on the PS3" (which will be their "catch all" for anything they don't want to fix.) I know I am being a bit cynical, but this allows them some form of a cop-out, which i believe they will use to the fullest extent.

Just FYI you can order a burger at any restaurant with or without different parts, like no cheese (blasphemy), or no ketchup. You don't have to buy it just as shown on the menu, you have choices. It would not be fair to walk in to a McDonalds and tell them that they HAVE to sell you 1/2 a big mac for 1/2 the price...selling and buying just does not work that way. Basically SE is not going to be able to MAKE people sell things one at a time...there would be a HUGE outcry and backlash on that front.
And believe it or not you can buy just ONE, not 99 of them or nothing.
I think you are wrong about the "huge outcry and backlash", people would be buying from the market instead of going out and getting it themselves so the market would more than likely improve all around.
What are sellers going to do, boycott the markets? yeahhhhh
Are you fricking insane? Do you realise that would dramatically drive down the price of EVERYTHING! You can get by by offering higher prices for lower stacks, which gives at least some other dimension to price options, but if you do this, all that will matter is price per unit. The amount of undercutting would be INSANE.
Think of this as like when you go to the store, you can buy a 20 pack of cokes for $5 making them about 25 cents each, or you can go to the vending machine and buy the same coke only its a dollar. WHY is this you ask? BECAUSE YOU DIDNT' HAVE TO BUY 20 of them.... its called bulk pricing people. Or when people sell a stack of dye 350 each for a stack of 99 and another sells the same dye for 600 nearly twice the price. Oh I don't wanna spend 34,650 on a stack of dye I only need 1 i'll just buy the 600. It's the price of convenience people, everyone complaining obviously has never crafted and tried to compete against others for a stable price. If we're allowed to buy singles off a stack yes as the guy above me said the undercutting would be rampant and noone would make any profit, and eventually instead of stacks you'll just see pages and pages of single items listed.
