I think that any item your class can equip should be available for vanity slot.
To me the looks of my character matter a lot, and vanity slot is something i'm really looking forward to.
Well honestly, i don't mind if i can't equip swimsuits, crafter/gatherer gear because they don't look so good anyway, but seriously putting a restriction depending on the item lvl or whatever, is just going to make vanity slot useless ... Some lower level gears look really cool and the whole idea is to be able to put their appearance over higher lever gear so that we can destroy mobs while looking awesome.

Man I really hope they do this right.
I really can't say DCUO has this game beat in any aspect, but there is one thing they do well and that's their vanity system.

DCUO works like this, ANY piece of armor you've ever equipped you can wear the style from. There are even rewards for collecting a whole "outfit". This makes you head back into a dungeon for that last missing piece, that's replay value right there.

I'd love to see this exact system implemented, and I know as far as bonuses go for fully collecting that style, this may be a pipe dream but the way they do it with armor is definitely the way SE should go IMO..

I guess my major concern is that the system will be limited to green tier or better greatly reducing creative freedom and once again placing dyes in a "what's the point?" position.

How about having vanity gear revert back to combat gear upon aggro/combat?

I always consider vanity gear like 'city wear' but maybe that is just me.

That would kill the one of the major points. A lot of players use vanity systems to create their ideal set of combat gear.

You can wear whatever you want in the city right now without penalty.

Yoshida never specified whether it'll go by the gear's inherent class restriction or by something outside of that. If a hat says "All Classes", then it stands to reason that it would be usable by all classes for vanity slots as well.
Restricting gear to certain quality tiers or level: Not only will assure the vanity system will get hammered with angry criticisms the moment its unveiled, but almost defeats the purpose of a vanity system.

If someone finds a standard tier (white quality) and/or low level piece of gear they like: just let them use it in the vanity system please. I've never met anyone but a developer that thought quality tier restrictions on vanity gear is a good idea.
I know why you show concern over this. WoW's transmog system was restricted to green or higher gear. This was more because transmog also made the items soulbound to you, which white gear is subject to in this game. As such, I wouldn't worry about them placing a gear quality restriction. It'd be pointless to place one seeing how things are in the game.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.

Nice post but I believe there should be absolutely no restrictions at all! In RPG's how your character looks is of the greatest importance. WE should have full customization options for our characters.

I think so too, I was just pointing out IF there must be restrictions the kind I could live with. As well as the kind of restrictions I feel would completely ruin the system if added.
