Can someone tell me why everyone is upset about the logout timer?

So you're kids are smart enough to play the game but not smart enough to figure out how to log back into it?

Maybe she doesn't want to give her kids the password. I can think of many reasons not to, not least of which is policing how much time they spend on the game. By taking away their ability to log in they can only play according to her specifications. Come on man, that didn't take that much brain power to figure out. I barely even broke a sweat.

Doesn't make sense to me that people stand around doing nothing when waiting for DF i'm a DPS and I do stuff while waiting like other quests,crafting,exploring, and hunting log. If your just standing around doing nothing for 30+ minutes your wasting your time and others as well.

It's funny though, the AFKers aren't thinking about the future of the game. For one, if they didn't put the timer in place, the servers would always be full, and the people who could buy the game can't play and want a refund. So I guess these AFKers wants FF14 2.0 to be a failure.

And by your count how many is numerous? Why do people assume that just because a few in comparison to the total amount of users complain that it is the majority. The forums are not the total user base so only represent a small fraction of user.

The numerous posts where people are explicitly voicing their disapproval would serve to disprove your point.

I, however, am glad they added it. Everyone else who just wants to idle all day can suck it.

It's a quality of life thing, nothing major. It's a minor inconvenience to log back in when you've only been gone 30 minutes (maybe to take a shower?). 30 minutes is not a lot of time. Is it a huge deal? No, but for many people, upping the time to an hour or two would be nice.

When things get more stable, I hope it's something they can discard altogether. If someone gets stuck away from the computer for a few hours, maybe they can come back and not have to go through the log-in process. If SE doesn't want people afk on their servers in the long run, they have every right to keep the restriction in place. Customers should be able to voice their petitions for changes in the game nonetheless. SE is likely happy to have thoughtful constructive criticism from consumers so that they understand how to better please customers.

tl;dr: if the AFK system is not vital, there's nothing wrong with asking to have it removed, even though it's not a huge deal. Just remember to say please

Was this even necessary to ask me? Of course I am not leaving the house. How ridiculous. I have a browser opened over the XIV screen so I can still see if I have been que'd. But if I forget to take a few steps around in game while I am waiting I should not be punished for it.

I wouldn't call it "being punished" but yes, you absolutely should be logged out if you can't be bothered to make a half second input in a MMO once every 30 minutes.

I don't know if you are being dense or are trolling(based on your recent posting history, I can guess), but auto logout isn't a feature for people in the game to "enjoy". Making it optional makes no sense. No one is going into their options going, "Oh how great would it be if the game could just log me off automatically huh?". The timer isn't for the benefit of people in the game, its for people who can't login to the game.

I am not AFK, I am still here at my computer waiting for a dungeon party. So, no. Of course, because troll= someone who has a different opinion than you? lol. The issue of the "world being full" error has been corrected. You can even create a character on once populated servers! So therefor there is no reason for the logout timer. No reason at all. AFK people don't lag others, FATEs do. The only time it should be implemented is during dungeons to stop lechers.
