My boyfriend plays on PC, but uses a controller. Although he loves using a controller, he has mentioned that there are a few issues with using one. For example, when a new window pops up (Loot window), your controller will automatically select it. If you press whatever button you have mapped to 'confirm' twice in rapid succession (possibly because you are trying to spam abilities), you could accidentally roll on something you didn't mean to. Sometimes, the controller glitches and just won't respond correctly. Targeting can be difficult too, especially if you are trying to target something huge and close to you (example: Demon Wall as a tank -- something he gets annoyed about every time we run that dungeon). I'm not saying this is a reason to keep PS3 players out, but it is one reason why some people are shying away from using controllers -- until the controls are improved (or you are able to 'take back' a roll without having to leave a dungeon to do it!)

Another (more likely) reason people won't want to play with PS3 players has nothing to do with being snobby or thinking they are 'better' (as a player from 1.0, I will be the first to admit that ARR is a VERY different game... Legacy players have no right to be snobs about our previous experience). It is simply logistics. For example, many endgame linkshells will utilize voice communication. Now, more than ever, it's difficult to type while trying to avoid AoEs that go off just a few short seconds after the little 'warning' marks on the ground appear. Players who use the PS3 will need to use a computer or smartphone app to access these programs, and it can be difficult for them. We have several PS3 players in our LS who are encountering this problem. They don't want to feel left out, but they don't readily have access to voice chat programs. As raids become harder, being able to at least listen will become more important. Of course, once everyone gets the mechanics down... communication won't be needed that much, and everyone will just 'know' what to do.
