It is not only Swiftcast.
A main WHM should invest some time to learn all cross-class skills he can equip.
But not only WHM. Also all the other jobs should learn their cross-class skills. And is it only to complete the skill list.

There is a little Monkey in all of us....

No white mage wants anyone to die under their watch. When people die on my parties, I do feel bad when people die. But when you get bitched at by the player that stands in fire all the time, Just remember the ultimate healer creed when it comes to MMO's... "You can't fix stupid". Spam Esuna and Cure II all you want, but that debuff wont go away... Stupid is forever.

I control life and death, THE MORTAL COIL IS MY PLAYTHING MWA HA HA HA /back to fishing <*((((((><

It’s kind of sad to see not only a thread like this but the fact that it has gotten this far…
But I’ll make this quick,
While the OP may have made his point (very) poorly, it doesn’t make it any less of a valid one. Quite a few of you have gotten hung up on the concept of Swiftcast -> Raise and trying to say that DPS and Tank classes should better perform their roles in order to prevent dying, and while this is true there are more than quite a few abilities that are completely unavoidable (See: Inferno, Aerial Blast, Earthen Fury, Tumult, etc.) And a large number of you have ignored many of the other posters pointing out the very valid uses of this ability that applies to situations like these.
Cases where you WOULD use something like Medica II -> Swiftcast -> Medica to cover large amounts of high AoE damage hitting your entire party, Or In the case of SCH and SMN being able to swap (Or re-summon) your pets without loss of mobility or output during battle.
And this is coming from someone who is NOT a mage at all let alone endgame (Btw even I have Swiftcast it isn’t all that difficult to acquire)
It really should be expected that if you are able to cross class an ability for your job then you should probably have it (This applies to DPS and Tanks as well you guys don't get off on this one) because well...
1) Why not?
2) No really, why not?
Otherwise yeah it can probably be said that regardless of your skill level you aren’t playing that class to its full potential.
And yeah I’m not going to deny it probably sucks to level something you have no interest in for one ability but I assure you when you get it and use it properly not only will you be pleased with the results, but your parties will as well.

Good to know that those of us who genuinely care are in fact here. All the "it's not my fault if you're too stupid and die" and "you don't know how to play right if you don't get this skill" back and forth was making me worried.![]()
When I learned about swiftcast, I started leveling THM for it (still in the process, actually). Not having it doesn't mean your are a bad healer. But saying the DPS or tanks or whatever need to just not die.. That does sound like a poor excuse to cover up being lazy. It is end game. Where stuff is harder.
People are going to lag, people will start to D/C for a few seconds, they will get an itch on their face and go to scratch it, etc etc. Stuff happens. And when that stuff happens, it is up to us to try and make a recovery from it. It might not be an end-all-be-all spell, but to deny that it isn't useful is pretty silly.
Yes, some people might honestly need to get better before they attempt end game. But mistakes will happen regardless.
Now, I'm going to make a jab of my own.
I have seen maybe a total of 6 bards actually use songs. There have been times when I have been completely out of mp for one reason or another, and the bard does nothing. I know about the damage reduction while singing. But you are a bard. Not a ranger, or hunter.
So, as long as we are pointing out things other classes should be doing, bards should be singing when it is needed. I'm not asking for you to have songs up 100% of the time. But if I'm reduced to spamming cure 1 on the tank and it's barely keeping them alive, there is no excuse to not put up mages ballad.
