Is it just me or is healing threat outrageous?

I'm not actually playing a healer so I don't totally know, but I'm seeing healers overthreat DPS and tanks in a lot of the dungeons that I've done.

Especially any fight where adds come out mid-fight. Seems like it's super tough for the tank to maintain threat over the healer.

That's usually only if the tank hasn't done anything yet to the mob.

enmity (not threat, that's a wow term) is only particularly high on AoE heals, which you shouldn't really be using constantly except in a dire situation. I don't usually pull hate unless I'm spamming like crazy, and if your gear is good enough you won't have to spam so hard.

Not particularly. I rarely pull threat off of even the very worst tanks unless they're simply not generating enmity on more than one mob at a time.

When you're a DPS, you're generally generating enmity on only one mob... the one you're blowing up. Healing, on the other hand, puts you on the shitlist of every mob the tank is engaged with, so if the tank isn't managing his AoE threat properly (or he simply hasn't had the chance to tag some mobs yet, like when new adds spawn in) you're going to pull some hate.

That's a bad tank but we should be watching emnity too and if we build up too much we should drop emnity with shroud of saints.

But if you spam heals ur doin it wrong. Use stone skin and regen a ton at later levels

Some healers seem to pull a lot of hate, and others don't. Probably a difference in play style.

If the tank pulls all the mobs you can spam single character cure spells on the tank with little threat. But use medica and you've waved the dinner bell :P

The AoE heal is a threat/enmity monster. ;D
If you got a new tank, he needs a few sec (realy just a few) to get hate on the group of mobs.
If then an eager dps/DD shoots before the tank reaches the group and used overpower or flash the DD gets hate, now the healer usually things "OH MY! 2 ppl got a scratch time to put my awesome medica spell to use!". As a GLD i never had a chance to get it of on lower levels without provoke, i dont know if thatll get better. On MRD i barely loose the mobs but after a second medica a few seconds after the first i will.
The fun thing about medica is that it seemes to generate a great amount of threat/enmity no mater if you actually heal or not heal with it.
    Edit:
Not all CNJ/WHM realize this and if they spam it they will tank the dungeon, nothing a tank can do there realy.
Not even in FFXI AoE healing generated that much enmity since you would only get as much as you actually heal hp, this doesnt seeme to be the case on FFIV. I saw a CNJ use medica after my overpower and flash, he only healed me with it, his bar jumped to 50% instantly. XD

Overheal in this game = threat. If your healer is spamming heals on you and you're at 95% hp he's building up unnecessary amounts of threat. It's not hard to overcome, but makes tank work a little harder, which is not always a good thing, even for a good tank. Constantly fighting retardation gets old after awhile. When I mark and someone consistently decides to go full on on a target other than primary I eventually just let them tank it.

And to add insult to injury the healer usually heals the DD (im a very bad person as healer and lets them die, or almost die, then watch them running arround and panic to then maaaybe heal, sry <.<) which will make him heal 2 people. Even if he doesnt use medica he then will generate quite alot more healing threat which usually means hell tank the 3. trash mob and i cant do shit against it.
