fully uncovering maps gives a good bit of exp too, though i think it might be % based and not a flat number. it is probably best saved until your late 40's if it is indeed % based. i was getting like 27,000 exp for fully uncovering a map at 48/49.

Always do your Hunting Logs, both for class and for GC. Get your friends to help you with them so you can tackle the higher level ones if you're under level to solo them.
DO NOT SKIP THE SIDEQUESTS. I skipped some earlier on hoping to use them for another class later on. Big mistake. I'm consistently ending up under level for the next story quests and have to end up FATE grinding or doing dungeon runs to catch up in XP.
You can do FATEs to fill in the void if you run out of story quests and are waiting to do a dungeon.
It sounds very obvious that you dont enjoy the easy game structure this game has to offer, if you are having trouble staying modivated then i think thats an obvious red flag of you not liking the game lol but i have empathy for you because the game rrally is terribly easy.
When leveling your main class dont do every side mission leave some for other classes a rule of thumb I use is if a quest is 2 or more lvls below mine I save it for later. Guildhest and levequests help and also do the quests for GC seals as it kills two birds with one stone. Finally work on your hunting log while picking up as many fates as you can along the way. I forgot to mention you can rerun the story 4 person instances to also give exp and a boost in your gear.
Another way to help level is to work on your crafting so as to be able to make your own gear it will save you lots of money in the long run.
A small piece of advice regarding the hunting log.
When I first started them, I tried to do them in order, according to level. What I found, like you, is that they seem to take me all over the place. So, what I started to do is ignore the hunting log until I was about 3 levels away from the highest level for it. So level 17, for the 10-20 hunting log. Then, hover over each entry for it to tell you the zone and area. Concentrate on all the mobs in one zone, usually, it's laid out in such a way that you'll progress through the zone, until you're close to the next zone that has hunting log mobs. Go into that zone and finish them off. It seems to go by much faster this way and you see the xp in huge chunks instead of small dribbles, feels like a bigger accomplishment
I try to do that with everything, take it in chunks and do it all in one fell swoop. There's a small amount of time preparing, then the big chunks of xp, trailing off at the end as you finish up. Gives a pretty good sense of satisfaction.
For FATEs, try to find an area that has 3 or 4 that pop up in the zone. You can usually wander around the zone going from FATE to FATE and grabbing chunks of xp and seals.
Maybe the game just isn't for you? Not a bad thing, but if you don't really enjoy playing, then why do it? For me, part of the joy of this game is that i'm not stuck on one path, if i get bored with leveling my main, i can go try a totally different class on the same character, go gather, craft, and in the future even more options will open up (housing, pvp, etc). Even just hanging out in game helps sometimes.
Bard is quite different than WHM, not a healer at all from what i know. If you still want to heal, scholar could work, even though it's a bit more work for you, plus arcanist plays a lot differently. No harm in trying.
To speed it up, i've heard people fate grind, and it's fast and easy if you get in a group. That sort of thing is mind numbing to me though, especially in groups. I prefer to wander into fates and do them in smaller gatherings solo. Don't forget though that dungeons and fates can scale you, so your friends can always run ones that you are right for, instead of trying to race to 50.
maybe its not... i dont know. its not like i hate the game, infact i think its kind of cool, and it looks amazing. i dont know, i started playing marvel heroes today, and having a blast leveling. i dont get it.Maybe the game just isn't for you? i rather play ff14 because everybody i know is, and almost nobody i know is currently playing marvel heroes.
Specifically for me its more for the story and the world. I absolutely love the game and like powering through because it helps me continue on in the story lines. Not to mention that some of the quests can be downright funny.
Its unfortunate that you are running into this problem. I'd say what is the real reason why you want to play? Is it just to play with your three friends? If you don't enjoy the game, you can't exactly force yourself to like it
Either way, if you need help with any of your dungeons, I don't mind helping out. Now only if we were on the same server ^^;
Maybe you need to stop playing keepup with your friends if that's causing the issue. You said you liked marvels but no one plays it. If you played XIV at your own speed would you have more fun? Your friends still can join you in the lower dungeons.maybe its not... i dont know. its not like i hate the game, infact i think its kind of cool, and it looks amazing. i dont know, i started playing marvel heroes today, and having a blast leveling. i dont get it.

I wish people would stop saying "do your hunting log". The hunting log only gets you so much until it caps out, it's not a solve-all solution.
That must be nice.. except on my server, I can't even get to a freshly-popped FATE before it's mostly completed by zerg parties, that's how fast they go down. That's not the case on your server? :P Clearly I chose poorly.
No leeching, No PL'ing, just 100% playing the game.
