Between certain MS ranges the change in actions on an MMO is not noticeable, it only becomes noticeable and affecting of gameplay when you go between 1 range and another. And for an informatic engineer you should understand that, plus you should also understand slapping a data centre in the EU won't fix 90% of the problems people are claiming to have when it's down to how the game has been programmed.

Also need i not mention that shorter distance in miles/km does not automatically mean you have a shorter distance metric between you and the servers, for example right now you could have 10 to 12 hops between you and the servers in canada but if a server was placed in the EU and the data was being improperly handled and you were send through 30 hops to reach the EU server your latency would be worse even though you had to travel less miles/km with that data.

It would definately be nice to see the servers being moved to EU.

However I personally am not noticing anything of the lag, currently just level 28 though, but have never been hit in dungeons on occasions where I shouldn't be.

What you're saying makes no sense in terms of argument, what you're saying is that if the routing from my PC to the datacenter in EU was much worse than it is from my pc to the datacenters in NA then it would be even worse.

No where did i say it didn't matter, my point was that the shorter distance in miles/km is not an automatic magical fix to the problem, if you get sent through enough hops it can make your ping WORSE than having to travel a longer distance with fewer hops.

The data centre being good won't matter its the >ISPs< that will handle the traffic (namely yours and the ones yours have contracts with to handle data that gets sent to their country outside of yours).

End of the day your isp still has to connect to them, and if your ISP has poor routing protocols or is just plain bad to begin (which mine is unfortunately as one day they decided to block all connections to FFXI for no other reason than "it's a third party") then the performance will still suffer, such as the people in the thread i posted getting p2p throttling on the game. My point of posting is that having an EU data centre isn't a magical fix to everyones problems.

No denying in that, im just saying that yes, we know the major game lag issues and non-responsiveness its common to all zones and its thanks to crappy server and client coding, but with our without the other issues, europe needs datacenters cause even those extra MS make the difference.

I can agree with you on that, one thread a person has made about responsiveness and aoe's hitting people when it shouldn't has been moved to the accepted bugs section. So maybe once that's been addressed it "hopefully" will make things better for some EU players for now, as i'm not sure if square will part with the money for EU servers till a bit down the road of 2.0's life when they are sure of a steady income.
