One solution to end the server woes...

Been trying to log in for about 6 hours now. at one point i even got queue 20th and then kicked for 1017 immediately after

I honestly think we wouldn't have this 1017 problem if people logged out properly, But ah well hopefully they will fix this properly tomorrow

This will all be a faint memory about a month from now. When all those 30 days free subscriptions run out, a good chunk of "MMO Tourists" will bail, and then the masses will go to complaining how empty their worlds are. I'm agitated by all of this congestion and restrictions, but I'm semi-glad this game hasn't made me a permanent fixture at my desk just yet. Semi.

Only teasing but it would make more sense to leave a PC on for hours compared to a PS3, cause PS3's have an active afk timer. If the system remains on for more than a certain time period without action it will automatically shut off.

Adding Server Capacity without kicking AFK players won't change anything. AFKing started as a way to stay in with crappy server capacity, and raising the server capacity won't be convincing enough to some players: we've all had troubles getting on the past week. The players who get on will still AFK, there will just be more AFKers.

There are countless afkers in FFXI, bazaaring, leeching exp, or just not bothering to log out. In my 10 years of FFXI, I've never came across a server full issue, ever, even in the heydays of the game.

Simply make the AFK timer about..15 minutes. This way I can take a poop without getting DC'd

Yoshida hinted at looking into an AFK kick system. He stated that the reason they aren't doing anything with it right now is because he wants to devote all resources to getting the new hardware going, and controlling server stability. I wouldn't be surprised if such a system is put into place in a few weeks.

Server capacity will not fix this.

They could institute a system where if someone is afk, and someone else wants to get in, the person with the longest afk time will get kicked, maybe with a notification message. Simple. Once the system goes in place, after a while, people will just logout, knowing they can log back in later. And give us a que system, a true one. I dont care if I am in slot 10,000. At least I know that I will get back in the game sometime and I can AFK the login when I know the ques is there and will log me in eventually.
