A little worried, not about servers though, about Summoner!

Well every since the pre-P4 announce of Arcanist being in. It was always my plan to play one. So here it is EA over, game launch. My Summoner is 50. Done all my story quest. What I am finding out though is that Summoner/Arcanist is probably going to end up as an unwanted job for some of the dungeons.

Now before anyone thinks this is a complaint or whining about Summoner DPS. It isn't. It's just that shortly after getting to 50. I decided to run that one dungeon for the Grand Company promotion. I can't remember the name it was like A something. But the whole dungeon seems to be a DPS race from what I'm told.

Let me step back for a moment. During my first try for it I opted to join an in progress run of it. The group was at 2nd boss (Doom Wall). They explained the fight, I understood it. We just could not finish it because of the lacking of DPS. Namely from my summoner. No big deal, I thought maybe it was me, or maybe not. Group broke up and I tried again from the start with another group. After failing about 3 times, I was asked to leave. Tank said and I quote "Need more bursty DPS".

No big deal. I leave no harm no foul. The next two times I ran it I was asked to leave before we even pulled a single mob. The next time after that same situation as before get to first boss unable to down it. I wasn't the only summoner that time though. A group of 3 people either from same server or FC saw me said "sorry can't do this with a summoner" and left the dungeon, not a single mob pulled. My last attempt the healer asked if I could change classes (Yes a 50 WHM did not know that when in DF dungeon you can't change classes). When I pointed out I couldn't. He left... tank left. Other DPS (a Dragoon) said "sorry" then left also.

I mean I know our DPS isn't the greatest for burst, it's rather slow. But am I really going to have no choice but to level up another DPS class to get done, or switch over to my tank (I do not like tanking). Is our DPS really no good for that particular dungeon?

Thats funny, because I've seen groups clear Amphador Keep in 20 minutes with a Summoner in their party.

Was this the Marlboro dungeon? The one with the poisonous yellow water? Whatever its called I can't remember. Summoner/Scholar are the absolute worst fighting that malboro beast and I can see exactly where they're coming from. That dungeon relies heavily on AoE and smn doesnt provide. I don't think its even possible to complete without atleast one BLM.

The complaint I've heard is that debuffs are limited on bigger bosses, so a role that Arcanist does quite well is slammed with restrictions on how many of those effects they can have active.

If they fix that, it will definitely free up more potential. I don't know the job well enough to make any other judgments.

Uggh, looks like I have to finish leveling black mage if I want to do anything now. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

As a long time FFXI player. I was starting to get that "oh not this class elitism" crap again feeling. Not that I'm against leveling up another DPS class. It's just that sometimes you just want to play, what you want to play.

ive been a whm 50 as my main and done everything with it. but i have been waiting for summoner since day 1 of 1.0 and now that its here i want it to be my main. hearing your story worries me about that. im not up to that level yet because i cant even get in to play >.> but i really hope i can make it my main without people turning me down for stupid stuff
