Unable to update the group NA/EU Character List but no maintenance is on

Been trying to log on about every 5 mins for the last 3 hours unsuccessfully. Same problem as original poster. To see if the worlds were up per se I proceeded to try and create a new character only to see what worlds were being shown as available. For the NA/EU server it shows 'Unable to obtain world list' too. This is just silly. Not sure what the great complication was. I've been through about 6 'more ppl logged in than expected' mmos before, but this one apparently learned nothing from others and is possibly the worst stress testing failure in my book. Game is awesome though, hopefully if I ever get in today that'll make everything worth it.

This doesnt really put my mind at ease. Cause it says that maybe after wednesday we will see some improvement. Meaning till wednesday we are fucked, basicly.

Square should answer some questions at least. Why are they not kicking AFKers? It's a simple question they can answer. All we have is "we know it sucks, maybe it gets fixed on wednesday"

really so its open beta 5 and 230k is nothing man what a fail.
They could have had so many more people what a waste.
All new MMO's are really should learn from this this is how you really screw the pooch, do all that good work then screw yourself on logistics.

I play on Aegis server, and live in USA. I am constantly getting the "Unable to update NA/EU server list..." AND I also get that message for the JP servers every other time I log in (always one of those messages)

My question is this: do I have to completely quit the game client or can I go back to the main screen and keep trying "start"?

So far my only success is completely quitting the client.

I don't get the 1017 error message. It says that "... the World is full. Please wait until an opening is available and then try again." How exactly are we suppose to know when an opening is available (if there is a way)?
