Correct, Provoke is a situational O crap button when you lose hate to another party member. However, it is on an individual CD, not the GCD.

Maybe I am lacking in ability, but I do require at least 2 GCDs and the mobs to move in front of me from my pull to establish a secure enmity lead(as a MRD/WAR). When the squishies start engaging before mobs actually get to me it makes me sad in the pants and it makes my job that much harder. Also, I make my FC use the /assist "name" because marking is for chumps.

The point is, Provoke does nothing at all during the pull cause it doesn't generate hate like it did in FFXI or taunts like in other games.
It's really helpfull if someone has high hate, you use Provoke and get his hate +1.

But I read that so many times that tanks use Provoke during the pull. Don't do that it's freaking useless and a waste of the CD

I've had group members run in to the boss, open with the Limit Break, and then ask me if I knew how to tank when they got hit... all before I even got in range to provoke it (Again, archer).

Marauder/Warrior is much more difficult on the initial pull. Gladiator has the advantage of Flash being AOE, so once you engage the mobs you can Flash and pretty well have all mobs attention. Because Overpower is conal it's pretty hard to get all mobs within that range on the first pull to hold proper enmity.

If you don't have it yet, Tomahawk (achieved through story quests) is pretty essential on Marauder/Warrior for pulling, as it gives you more time to position the mobs. I would recommend getting Flash as well to make life much easier. Between pulls you'll have more than enough time to regen MP for a couple uses of Flash if need be.

If they suck at donging their job, does that mean they're doing well?

'Cause you know, Tanking is all about taking the punishment of attacks, something that particular object does not do well...

Then again, it is important for tanks to be at the ready when the moment arises and they must be the meat shield of the party.
