Population limits should have been considered 8 months ago

I have to wonder about the leadership and direction of this company I admit. After releasing the first walking disaster - they realized it and apologized all over themselves about it. (Jeez, even the CEO apologized a bunch which is apparently a big deal in Japan.) So, they do this in order to appease the fans right? They say - We will make a better game, just wait for it. And a year or something later - they deliver!

But .. wait a minute ... sure. They delivered a great new game, but at least 1/3 of the *potential/real* subscribers can't even play? Why? Because they didn't consider server load at peak times. *sigh*

So my understanding is that they *could* let more people online but it would compromise their gaming experience (latency/crash/etc.) but have instead elected to restrict the number of people able to login to a server. Man, those are both horrible choices.

Didn't they consider this possibility at all? What about some sort of backup plan? Say like renting a bank of 100 servers at Google's hard-drive farm to serve up the game in the temporary peak period. I'm sure they are thinking that this is just the peak and that people will bleed off (like every MMO).

*sigh* ... I really just wanted to be able to play the damn game.

    *rip up sub*

    *walk away*

Not at all. The last thing we want is more crashes. what they need is a bunch more servers, Free server transfer(at least for the first month or so), a visual population(a ticker or something), Or just transfer you to a different server when your main is full(just as a temp). Planetside 2 has a function where if you want to go to a new continent, which are on new servers, you are put can play in another server while on the queue for said server. You can still play while waiting to join your buddies on a different server.

http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...l-Queue-System <--- ive set a petition system up to try to get squeenix to listen to there playerbase. If we can get just even the login system working better that would be a great start to overall server stability

And besides, when a game nears it's server capacity, they usually install more servers to handle all the incoming players. More servers = more players = more money = successful Square

nah... booting afk will actually take work... and most importantly, it may help things. So that's a definite no-no! No way SE would ever do that!

This one has played MMOs since EverQuest, not a one has had a solid error-free launch, be patient and the issue will resolve. With 3 million people trying to play a MMO SE billeted a tenth of that for, it is going to cause some major issues. Be patient, be courteous and all will be well in Eorzea.

I agree fully. Some people on desktops leave the game running so they never get locked out. they really only have to worry about maintenance. lets say everyone playing, really really wanted to avoid log in problems and stayed logged in 24/7. No other player would ever be able to play unless square adds more servers. Even then they would have to make completely fresh characters. Goodbye Lvl45 Monk

it would be great if there was any way to know witch servers are empty/full... there is no indication in the interface and unless you go trying server by server you may as well just be creating a character in a full server or a soon to be full server >.<

unless ofc you go play on the jp servers, then you will have no problem at all. they just cant get it right on the NA/EU servers apparently.

sorry but even the most bumpy launch i have seem so far did not choose to lock a good portion of its player base out of the game and with the only, the easiest, solution to just close the doors and serve the players their poor servers can handle. any smaller company would probably be handling this better at this point. anyone in this genre would know that you need to have back up plans for your server capacity, they had the data about sales, they have made 2 mmos prior to this, they are a BIG company with a ton more resources then most of their competitors and yet they doesnt seem to know how to prepare for a mmo launch.

We rant because we care. If the community throws out enough good ideas. Square may find an answer they didn't think of.
