If they have the motivation to try another class (that is if they can figure out how), maybe they'll play a little longer. Same goes for DoL. Honestly, these should be removed from the character creation, especially once the battle system is revamped to be more enjoyable.
Completely agree. But it could easily be remedied if they bothered to include optional "New Player" tutorial pop-ups during the beginning of the game to introduce new players to the core aspects of the game (i.e. the ones never mentioned in the game manual). It's bad enough you can't alt-tab out of the game to check a fansite for info you need

If people want baby crafting there are about 30 mmos free to play and Pay to play that offer that. IF you want to do something besides press a button to autocraft then go make lunch (basically a built in craftbot) then this is your game.

If the crafting system is that broken for people that they quit the game because of that reason... they need to play Rift or WoW... in those games you can even hit cap craft in about 10hrs if you have money to do it. I belive that is the experiance those who quit are after... and frankly they can keep it.

I agree the reason FFXIV craft is like that is from feedback from FFXI Tanaka saw that a lot of players really just like to craft. So he came up with the idea of making craft a real class and something you can do as a main without even touching battle class.

    @BelgianRofl
Tanaka idea is the best craft is not broken if you think it's broken it's because it was not build for you it was build for the players who enjoy only doing that type of stuff in a mmo so why don't you go back to your troll hole that you came from and leave once again. You said you going to leave then leave don't back up on your word now -.-

embarrassing? oh come on... It's not like you play Barbie’s pony farm.
Tho i must say if i had to show the game to friends i probably would not start out with a weaver synthesis...
Crafting in FFXIV is imo better than in most other MMO but I would like to have it feel less like ‘work’
It is very boring… and I hate walking to distant camps just for crafting but on the other hand no one is forcing anyone to craft.

That happens to me too and I agree that they should have made the mini-games actual games rather than slow lottery.

So SE's not doing that as it would require work and game design skill and based on the latest info it seems to me they're axing the whole crafting process to make it be like in every single MMO ever made. Nice one you guys. It's not like we want to have fun while crafting or anything...

Embarrassment? My roommate walked in on me watching tranny porn the other day (Ashley George is smoking hot). Fuk um, its your free time. The point is, we all waste our free time, some way or another.

Good points though. Paying to play such an outdated, boring system would be ludicrous if that were your main objective in game.

Fun mini games would be fun. If i could angry bird my way to 50 Cul i would be there and then some (I know that was not what you had in mind, but hey why not?).

They're looking at the screen watching me select synthesis options and watching the incredibly slow and uninteresting animations on repeat. I become embarrassed knowing that they may be thinking, "This guy sits in a chair doing this in is free time?"

To spare myself the embarrassment, I normally time my crafting for when my girlfriend jumps in the shower. When she's done, I'd then switch to something else as to avoid judgement.

The truth of the matter is, FFXIV was originally intended to be a pay to play game. With Gathering and Crafting classes intended to be as center-stage as any battle class, I'd say Tanaka was out of his mind to think that people would pay to play the Crafting and Gathering mini-games.

I think an incredible solution to solving the problem of player-embarrassment and FFXIV's lackluster profits, the Crafting and Gathering games need to be spiced up. The mini games should be visual puzzles that induce thought and strategy - a different puzzle for each kind of tool used. This way each job feels different from the next.

Also, because of the emphasis on crafting and gathering, it shouldn't take longer to level a craft to 50 than a normal job - remember, the ultimate goal is to create a game that people want to pay a monthly subscription to play.

Or... another solution is to totally deemphasize crafting. Remove the mini-game altogether. Make each synthesis pass or fail, and focus on the battle system instead - making it one where players wouldn't mind spending a good portion of their free time for years to come.

Square-Enix's Net worth has dropped 33.0808081% since September 27th. You want to make money? If you want people to rebuild Square-Enix's net worth, and if you want Crafting & Gathering classes to be as upfront and important as any other class, they need to be fun and awesome.

As it stands now, I challenge any of the developers to level a craft or gathering skill to rank 30 in their free time.

    Warm regards,

    -BR

Looks like Belgian can't even take his own advice when he said he was never coming back. Why should we listen to him now when he can't even stand by his own rantings?

Sorry to say I glazed over your entire post because I think you fail for not even being able to stand by your own word.
