Materia melding stat caps on iLevel 70 armor.

In phase 3 it was figured out the the stat caps on items were the stats that would be shown on the HQ versions, so if you had something with str +5 and the HQ version had str +7, the str cap on that item was +7, so you had to chose something different than str to meld on the HQ item.

I'm not sure whether this is still the case since I ran across a player wearing full weaver AF in phase 4 with triple melded craftsmanship materia all through.

I'm wondering if you would be able to meld intelligence materia on HQ vanya clothing, or strength materia on HQ heavy dark steel armor.

I'm personally considering either acquiring the dark light cowl of casting using my cracked melded gear, but I'm wondering if melding the vanya hat and robe would prove a more powerful alternative.

While I don't yet know enough to dictate any overarching guidelines, I can show you a few examples of stat caps from our FC's crafting efforts in phase 4.

Thanks for the examples, I mainly focused on getting all my class quests to 20 before testing out materia etc. Got a lot of work to do for release it seems.

I would go for the darklight cowl of casting simply because it looks way cooler imo, but in actually, a HQ ilvl 70 gears can be more powerful simply because we can stack up to 5 materias on it. Even though Vit and Int are capped on HQ Vanyas, you can add other stats such as critical, spell speed, accuracy, determination, elementals, etc to it while darklight can't.

If you're all about stats, maybe you should consider picking up the Sorcerer's Coat and Sorcerer's Pestasos instead of the darklight cowl since its stats are downright OP...

Oh wait, those requires a different kind of token nvm.

For crafting gear specifically, I can confirm that the existing +craftsmanship on an HQ piece does not exactly correlate with the maximum craftsmanship allowable on that piece.

Price was no object when Count Dascorp put forth the necessary guild marks to purchase the ability “Fleet of Foot.”

I can confirm the same to be true for gathering gear.

Fact of the matter is it would be ridiculous to make the stat caps of crafting and gathering gear equivalent to the stats of HQ versions of said gear because there are only 3 stats that crafters and gatherers need (craft, control and cp / gather, perception, and gp).

It would appear that for battle gear the HQ versions of the gear are at the stat caps for those primary stats but this does not appear to be the case for gathering and crafting classes. In fact, the opposite appears to be true in regards the gathering gear. For example, any given piece of gathering AF is more likely to accept a greater amount of materia correlating to the stat which the gear gives most of. The NQ hamlet hat has 56 perception and will accept a total of +19 in addition to it. While the legs have 28 gathering and 3 perception cap out at +1 perception (4 maximum) but appear to accept more gathering materia.

That is really a good topic. Thank you guys for sharing info. Still, this does not confirm the cap on HQ items. Did anyone test this in phase 4.

This is an interesting conversation so far. Wanted to subscribe to it.

Those melds that carraway posted are interesting, ty for sharing. Its odd how item absorbed so much, I would of thought that stat would of capped much lower.

I crafted a few DoH sets and the botanist set. And luckily enough to HQ on the weavor body piece, what's interesting to me was that the body piece was the only one out of head, body, hand, leg & feet that would give me the full craftmanship stat increase by melding a tier IV materia (+6). I melded 2 tier IV craftmanship = +12 and I think it would allow me to add another 4 craftmanship if I choose to meld a third time (tier II). But with all the other parts, they will not give me full craftmanship stat increase even it would be the 1st materia....again the pants are the worst offender, can only add another 1 craftmanship.
