Entitled DPS, please stop being entitled

The guy could have asked in a nicer way, but to be fair you were just as rude to ignore him and do whatever you wanted. The whole bad experience could have been avoided if you'd just replied to him and had a conversation about it instead of just going off and doing w/e you wanted.
This is a team game. You as a tank can no more do the run without your dps than they can without you or the healer, or the healer can without the tank or dps.

so let me ask this, your in a party of 4 yourself included as the tank, there are 9 mobs in same room grouped up by 3. you pull 1 of the group and start rotations, then dps decides that your not pulling enough and pulls the other 2 groups, now you have all 9 mob chipping away at the dps hp and yours before you have a chance to pick up the other mobs off the dps they die( because it hard to chase down a dps running around with its head cut off) now your down two players you the healer and 9 mobs...... its a wipe, whos are fault here? the tank because he didn't pick up the mobs that there dps pulled or the dps for not dpsing the adds that the tank had aggro on already?

All that does is produce a cycle of Bigotry.

For example: as a healer if I see a tank be overly forceful on their desire for the pace, I can 'forget' to heal him. After all, it's a lowbie dungeon and really tanks are there to learn how to tank, or for the roulette. I can keep up a DPS up or even just force through myself as healer on every dungeon up through Brayflox without difficulty.

A tank's job is not to control the pacing of the dungeon - that's determined by the group, and how comfortable everyone is with pulls. A tank's job is to keep the monsters trained on him, and as soon as he thinks that's optional based on personal desires, everyone else's obligations go out the window too. Talk it out, or part ways amicably.

Team > Any role in the party. The instant you think you're more important or control more than what the team desires, do everyone else a favor and see yourself out.

Try a boss without a tank or heal - you wont have a problem if there are no mechanics preventing you from only going on with one DPS. And im not talking about 15-30 stuff, because anyone can basically tank anything up to haukke easily as long as you got a heal thats on his toes (or even a arc/blm spamming physick)

I come across players who regularly ask for a full run. Especially when they are somewhere between 45-50, as they are quite impatient to reach the "finish" line. That said, there are means to ask.

"Would you PLEASE kill everything ? I need exp" >>> Trick question : find the key word.

That said, I understand perefectly that a tank will refuse to comply if the player hasn't even enough politeness for a mere courteousy like "please". I main WhM and I don't tank at that level yet, but pulling extra mobs is the worst reaction anyone could be having. All the more as it was in Dzemael.


You wanna pull extra mobs and bring them to the tank ? Ok. It's better be your lucky day then, because if the tank refuses (his utter right) to grab them, I'm not gonna heal TWO tanks at the same time. Let alone 3. And obviously, you're not priority in my "to-heal" list.
Some of the areas in DD requiere full focus from the healer on the tank (the area where you can find red crystals/ toads essentially). You're walking in Aoe ? Fine, I'll heal you. You're making mistakes in your placing all througout the dungeon ? Fine I'll heal you too. You make things unecessarily harder for me by pulling extra mobs and act like a spoiled kid tank when you DON'T have the VIT and DEF to back it up ? No no no.

In all honesty, there are only a couple occasions I had to be a substitute tank. When I play as a DPS and I notice we forgot some mechanisms earlier in a dungeon, I'll usually say "I'm gonna do it, I'll catch up", and if by mistake, I catch an add on my way, I warn the tank immediatly and apologize.

Just a matter of respect. For anyone in the party.

The first "discussion" they had when entering the dungeon is about ethics, certainly. And you may, or may not agree with one's decision. But the tank knows best how many mobs he can handle. Anything "extra" is just increasing the risk of wipes.

Grab 6/7 mobs in that crystal and toads area and I'll be able to heal you all. Bring 8 or more ? Start praying Byregot, because I'm not likely to have enough mana or spellspeed to keep up with the damages done.

Yes we are entitled to pace however we see fit. Because when we keep aggro of everything and the heal cant keep up it is US who will be lying in the dirt face first. Not your chubby dps ass that thought they could kill faster but actually couldnt. And not that healer ass either because they thought they can heal through an additional group of mobs. Just because some tanks feel its their inclined right to pace how they see fit for the actual group they're in, it doesnt make them entitled - if you say so you basically just call them utter idiots with no capability of group judgement and experience. With that attitude I can see you being the person that pulls too much and blames the healer and dps, It's this attitude that makes the FFXIV community so toxic, I can see it now you pull too many and die "why didn't I get any heals" "duh because I ran out of MP, you need smaller pulls" "stop sucking then I always pull this I'm tank it's up to me"

Wrong, im one of those tanks that actually looks at the equipment of all party members before rushing in a dungeon. But im also one of those tanks that will let you eat dirt if you decide to make me go out of my way and undermine my judgement and think you can do it better.

So you go by gear rather than player skill, here's something for you I have SCH level 50, and I haven't touched it, now I could greed on all WoD healer gear, and get the Soldiary weapon, maybe even upgrade it from ST, now here's me as a SCH not touched since I got it to 50 it high iLvl gear and decided to start playing it, what would you do then? All I see is an "I know better than you" just because a. you are a tank and b. you have looked at my gear and you assume I am a capable healer, so you start pulling large pulls, what would happen when you were dying?

I will get another entry in less then one minute, you will have to wait for a replacement or a new que. If you ask nicely with politeness like a half decent human being - i wont mind. Easy: I'd adjust my playstyle to the situation instead of lashing out to you. Are you really so stuck in your thinking, believing that EVERYONE would just call you words instead of reacting to the situation properly?

Yes, i will judge you by gear at the start of the dungeon, thats the only thing i can do really quickly without having played with you first. And if you wear full 120 on the left side ill probably assume that its not your main, because, yknow you'd wear other stuff if it was. And after that: If the first pull goes wrong i will change my pulling behavior fitting the needs of the group im in to get it done smoothly. Because thats why im in there actually, to get it done, and im not looking for any drama or bullshitting.

And yes, i probably will know it better then you. I'm playing tank since 2.0 release, do new instances on the first day, so i know what im getting in when i DF it later on, pay attention to mechanics, know which mobs hit how hard, know how many mobs stand in a dungeon at which point, know which AoEs they do and if they're ranged/melee, and according to that i find out how many mobs i can pull when and where without being too demanding on the group.

*type hype* off to tank some more stuff, so far people havent complained in weeks about me :P

There's no point in being defensive on the forums on either one of these points.

Better than just checking, and judging, especially in a lowbie dungeon, it can be resolved with just simple polite conversation.

"Hi, I'm here for EXP, can we please full clear this is my highest dungeon."

Then, if the tank, or another member isn't able/inclined to, a polite response can be.

"Sorry, I'm trying to get this roulette in before my Static Raids."


The situation advantage here is not the Tanks. The tank is trying to rush, and only knows one DPS. The DPS can simply stop cold on the PLD and pull with the healer at their own pace. Suddenly one Tank and one DPS are without the heals they need to complete the run. If this was just an ornery DPS ticking off the party it would be a matter of an outlier misbehaving. It was not. This was a split decision by the party and communication failed.

You are the embodiment of an entitled tank and should feel ashamed of yourself. At that point, I'd have no qualms in making you leave yourself and eat the half hour penalty. You can try to tackle the boss with no heals while the DPS and I clear the scrap monsters. Your kind of attitude needs to be heavily discouraged.

Statements like yours further the stigma against tanks throughout this game.

Faster queue times isn't a licence to treat people terribly. That's just individuals with poor attitudes taking advantage of a limited report system and the Tank shortage.

I can't imagine treating players that way on my Warrior. I'm sorry this sort of attitude is just deplorable.

Makes me hope there's a large bandwagon of those hopping on Dark Knight that weren't tanks before and stick with it.

I would just like to point out that tanks do not control the pace of the dungeon; healers do. Tanks are supposed to only pull what a healer can heal through. The amount of hate they can hold effectively is secondary.

People forget what the main part of every role is though. The base aspect of every role is to make the lives of the other roles/people in the dungeon easier. Everything else is secondary. Before anyone starts telling me I'm wrong I want them to actually think about the roles and how they effect other players. All roles have a symbiotic relationship and all are important.

Sorry, but I don't feel ashamed. No matter how much you want me to. Try as you might to discourage 'my' (read most tanks) attitude and as you've seen in this thread, you will be fighting an uphill battle. Again, if you don't like the way it is.. please play a tank. We could use many, many more. If you choose to only play a healer or a dps, you are choosing to follow someone else's lead. Because without a tank, you 'might' be able to clear some trash waiting for another tank, but a boss.. forget about it.

However, if you keep making tanks leave or kick them, you will find this game will become very very difficult to get through. You will either give in and 'let the tank drive' or quit. There really isn't much more to say about it.

Yeh, i adressed that in my first post on that matter. Easiest solution: Vote Abandon and get other members, but as you said - communication fail, meh.

That's why playing with Japanese is such a blessing in Duty Finder - the tank will decide the speed and amount of mobs he pulls by default and if something goes wrong no one will start drama of any kind and just retry.
That's good when being tank, because you wont be insulted/rushed for whatever reason, but especially neat when you're a DPS. You just chill while you follow the tank around and you know you can trust the guy in the tin-can armor upfront.
If it can't be done the "vote abandon" card will be played after 10-15 minutes and still, no one will be blamed for it because it was a fail on the group side, not a single person.

Nyways, nothing more left to say - in the end theres idiots out there that will make you want to flip a table. But for everyone that tries to make your life harder there will be enough nice and patient people out there that are happy to change their way of playing if you just ask nicely

If they pull more then that they can pop more CDs and eventually get through it, if they run out of CDs or have none left they would get owned at the same amount of mobs and misjudged the situation

When I tank, I ask before we start "Do you guys want a full clear or just nice and quick?" I usually get a good response and we go on with no issues. I have had dps pull mobs that I didn't pull and when that happens if it isn't part of the group I was going to pull anyways, then I won't flash or provoke the mobs. If the mobs were aggroed by accident, I will grab them, no biggie. When I'm healing on my whitemage and dps start running ahead of the tank, I will say "I go with the tank, if you go ahead and pull mobs, and if the tank isn't grabbing them, then I'm not healing you because I don't want to pull threat off of you."

Actually, I already work around that.

One, I tank myself when I desire to. It's not as if you have a monopoly on the jobs.

Two, I'm in an FC that holds decent people, including tanks, that are willing to run with members to not deal with poor attitudes of PUG tanks (We even swap tank roles to accommodate each other's needs.)

So, no, it's really not sweat off my back to kick a tank that's misbehaving. Poor attitudes, however, will keep you out of good FCs and Raid statics - which can hurt your progress more. That may be something you wish to consider.

Then I suppose we'll just have to agree to disagree. I don't have and have not had, any problems with my own progression and have quite a good FC myself. It's also no sweat off my back to accept being kicked or to kick an uppity healer/dps for trying to dictate to me how to run the dungeon. I've said my peace and will not change my attitude.

The pace of the dungeon is set by the majority decision of the party. I frequently have groups discuss and decide this amicably at the start of a dungeon.

What really needs to be emphasized is the needs of the many above a few.

Again, no role gets to 'dictate' the pace of the run. Individuals that get particularly abusive, end up being pursued beyond simple kicks. GM reports and attempts to contact their FC leadership to inform them of the incident are not beyond the scope of actions can be taken against people who are especially bad, but these are the most outlining cases - not situations in which people simply disagree as to the purpose of a role, as we have here.

In the end, this thread serves as an example why Duty Finder and pick-up groups are viewed with caution, if not with outright negativity.

OP - You were as much in the wrong in this particular case as the pair you complain about. Silent rejection is not an appropriate response, and treating rudeness with rudeness in kind is just pouring fuel on the fire.

Joining a party means accepting a duty to communicate and work together. This succeeds all assumptions as to the purpose of your role.

Technically tank's only job is to keep the bad guys off of everyone else. Tank pulling them just makes it easier to start doing that job. There is no job in this game that is "built to do pulls".

Just to play devil's advocate, you could argue that tanks are the worst at pulling; Shield Lob and Tomahawk only have 15yd range compared to 25yd of every dps skill and using Provoke to pull is just stupid. Well, I guess Monks would be worse.

In reality, though, there is no situation where you just can't run in and hug the mobs, so it doesn't really matter.

Alberel Run! Get out! you're wasting your time here. 15 Pages and it still flies over the OP's Head xD.

And to keep it short (Not Really) regarding the pace setting of the run...The overall pace is determined by the entire team, and any part of the Trinity (DPS/TANK/HEAL) have the ability to cause shit to hit the Fan (Becomes extremely clear in Final Coils, though we're just talking Dungeons here x3)

- DPS Decides "Nope" During a Tank Mass Pull ? GG Rip to Tank, DPSing Healer and eventually the Entire Team
- DPS Decides to Slow down DPS During a Tank Mass Pull (Since We're talking about Dungeons and not DPS Check Content and also Autoattack is a thing) ? GG Rip to Tank and DPSing Healer and eventually the Entire Team because You will either run out of MP Solely Trying to heal the Tank as the Mobs slowly dwindle down or you'll try to get the Mobs down with your DPS, sacrificing some of your heals only to be followed up with a floor planted Tank.

It's Obvious how The Healer and Tank Part plays into the equation, but many people downplay the DPS Part and I find that oh so hilarious. You can gather all the Mobs you want and have a beast ass healer, but if the DPS's decides they don't like the shit that the Tank or Healer is dishing out? Rip x3. " Hey I can Overgear and everything will be fine " Dun Sync would like a word with your ass. You may be able to pull alot of shit together, but its the DPS that decides " Hey Imma Triple Flare " or " AoE " To burn them down before it all becomes wreckage on the Healers MP. It's the Healer that determines " Hey, Im going to Holy/DotsBane while making sure the Tank don't die " To speed things up.

Sad that DPS accepts this behaviour because the demand for tanks far exceed their own so they turn their head and pay no mind to how Important they are to the Trinity. Long Queues are Real =(. I don't even see Entitled Tanks...just Entitled People

Those all convey the same idea, but in a more respectful way. It's a matter of treating the other person like... well, a person. Asking nicely is more likely to get you a positive response than treating someone like they're there to serve you.

I do completely agree with you on this point. You will always catch more flies with honey, but even still, we don't know the true tone of how he was saying it (or if that is truly how it happened at all).

None of us are perfect, and we all have our off-days where we just take things wrong and and react poorly. I guess the difference with me is that had I acted like the OP, I would have been horribly embarrassed by my behavior, and there is absolutely no way I would have come onto the forums to complain about it. But instead they come on here trying to garner support for their bad behavior, and are still taking no responsibility in how it turned out.

Someone else's bad attitude does not excuse your own.

Neither is the fact that you've set in the queue for 30+ minutes. A few people in this thread have cited that as a reason that DPS are more entitled to act entitled than tanks and heals. That's... kinda silly. As a DPS, I'm happy just to get into an instance with the queues being what they are. If I want fast queues, I go tank or heals. *shrugs*

As far as DRK, you'll see an initial rush as people level it, but most will probably go back to their mains.

Honestly, I just see a breakdown in communication in the OP. The bard should've been nicer. The OP should've responded better to his rudeness. I get that the initial knee-jerk reaction to someone being an asshole is to do exactly the opposite of what they demand of you, but it doesn't help you get the instance done. Personally, I would've commented on his rudeness to see if it'd make him step back a notch. If he had more rudeness in store, vote kick is an option if I'm in there with a friend. Odds are that once he's gone the healer will leave anyway and we can either wait a few minutes, ask friends from linkshelles/static, or bail and hopefully get someone more agreeable when we requeue.

nah i pretty much made of my mind and making machinist my main when heavensward drops, i mean it sucks that i got my war fully decked with 130i gear and the zeta weapon.... oh well :/ ill use that job for fast que to hit tome caps.

I am not going to lie here. I didn't read the entirety of the OP nor all comments there after. But from what I did read of both I can say this much:

1. Stalemate caused by opposing bodies caused stupidity to flourish.
2. What should've happened was one group or the other leaving said instance thus leaving the group remaining sucking their thumbs wondering why they're idiots.
3. No role is entitled to anything, period, end of story.
4. Seems like your "rebellious streak" caused you more grief than what you bargained for. Hope the headache was worth it.
5. As has been stated multiple times already, both parties were WAY wrong. If that needs explaining I can't help you.

I don't understand why people get upitty when people do not phrase things the way they want it. If they wanted to be rude about it they could've gone about it in a different fashion other than even bothering to even say they wanted a full clear or in this case "no skipping anything". Sure a please could've been tacked on the end of it but that doesn't mean they were being hateful from the onset. Fact is from the moment that showed up in the chat box you wanted trouble and you got it. So in the end you got what you paid for. You ignored the request and went on without even saying "Is everyone ok with that?" or even "Can I get a please?". So they took it upon themselves to do what they came to do.

Now you claim abuse after the fact. That won't work because had you even responded even in a condescending manner at the beginning you may have had an argument. So you offer a compromise once you realize they won't conform to your wishes. Which got you as far as two year old trying to throw Mount Everest. Now you're locked in a stalemate because you cannot go any further without a healer and they cannot go further without a tank. All this because you didn't take the time to type out a few words at the beginning.

The DPS in question, could've acted better too. But after what you pulled I can't say I blame him/her much. It was still childish though. There are better ways of handling things than acting like a child when another child acts up.

TL;DR Tell me again who is the entitled one?

I haven't tanked for very long, up to about level 27 as a MRD, but I learned a few lessons in my short time of tanking. Like what to do when a DPS wants to run ahead of me and pull optional groups.

The way I see it is if a DPS wants to pull so badly, let them pull. I'll try to draw aggro off them, but they'd best keep in mind that if they die or cause a wipe, it's their own fault and not mine. If you're a DPS or healer, pull at your own risk. And if they don't like the fact that I have that mentality, they can go ahead and kick me from the group. I'll find another one, while they'll be stuck waiting for another tank.
