Seeing problems for old servers at ARR release?

Yoshi stated, that we wont be able to change the servers as "old" players at ARR release (which decision i dont really like but well..). so we old players are almost "imprisoned" on these servers.

At release of the version of 1.0. the servers have been very crowded, many games have been sold. After a year the servers have been clustered together (some cluster contain character datas of 2 and some even 3 servers).

so that means that we have a server cluster that contains the amount of 2-3 servers of "dead" and deactivated characters. Anybody having the option to download the new game for free again and checking out what changed at release.

what if 60% of these "deactivated" accounts want to login back with their old characters? (even if the ratings and reviews are going to be good) What if there is no space at all for all players on the old servers? + New players like RL friends who want to join these servers and create a new account? "sorry this server is full, try to log in back on a later time"?
we are unable to transfer to an other server with our chars.

because we are bound and seperated from new players?



thats a really new situation. I cant remember a relaunch of an MMorpg in that kind of way and situation.
i think having in mind that many Final Fantasy 14 DVD's have been sold, and that many people will reactivate their characters on their server, which is a cluster of 3 servers now.. is something that may be a real issue.


one argument more to make char transfer possible for old players.

your "OLD" Characters, not players. Cannot transfer to new servers, only the old servers. So if you want to play on new server, you can do so by creating new characters instead.

Also old characters can transfer to other old servers at launch.

but thats the point.. when you want to keep your characters? and the old servers are overcrowded? "please try to log in later" you are imprisoned and cant do anything about it.
yes, you can move to an other over-crowded old server.

i personally dont want to begin from lv 1... like other players who may also have "just" lv 30 characters on their account.

I dunno, Tonkra. I think you're counting your chickens before they hatch... and you're giving them all distorted, scary chicken faces. (Just like when the redenomination scare was all the rage around here.)

Part of the reason they're not allowing established 1.0 characters to move into the "brand new" servers is to preserve the also "brand new" economies on those servers without having an army of financially-established characters running the market.

Once the new servers have had time to establish themselves, 1.0 characters will be allowed to transfer servers.

Like Obsy said, this temporary restriction prevents wealthy 1.0 players from upsetting the economy of the new servers while they're still growing.

and to your seconds point.. well it did not hurt me either in FF11, when i joined the game after two years in the EU launch of FF11. just maybe the total opposite.
i was more like "woah i wanna become a fire man.. no ... a pirate.. ah damn.. i mean a fabulous Dragoon!" when i saw a lv 60+ Dragoon in full artifact armor and his beautiful wyvern.

i think it can be good for mixing up old and new players...for both sides. to each his own.


but well i can easily imagine that there are many players out of there who are afraid of established economies. because they want to be the first one on the rank list (the speed runners)


but speaking of my Final Fantasy 11 experience it was just great to see these established "heroes" it felt like a a lively world, because there already have been those "ancient" heroes ;)

and it was a game with an already increased level 75 cap at that time.. with 2-3 addons already. not just a game which received a revamp with a little additional level content. the gils are going to be already cut down in ARR for old players.

and on the contrast.. who of the low level players is going to buy a lv 10 armor for 50k gil if no one can afford this? these articles would just end as a bad seller.


im not saying that there shouldnt be complete "clean" servers at release. but im saying also that old players should receive also new servers to play on.. especially when the old ones are going to be maybe completely over-crowded.

This can and will still occur, as new players also have the option to join established servers. The purpose of the brand new servers is to play in a world where everyone and everything is starting from scratch.

I seriously doubt "being the first on the rank list" is the intention here. The point is preventing a fledgling economy from hitting the ground at ludicrously inflated rates to the point of prohibiting trade by allowing it to ramp up gradually on a more "natural" scale.

It appears that you're still missing the point of redenomination. Gil (no 's' even when plural) is not being literally cut down. There is no loss of money happening. You're being given a dollar bill in exchange for the ten dimes you had previously. We've gone over this before. I don't know how else to explain it.

What he said was that there would be (some) new servers where old characters could not be transferred, fresh start servers.

They did not say old characters cannot be transferred to new servers at all, do you really think they are going to make the change to regional servers and then lock all 1.0 characters to Japanese servers (or randomly assign old servers to new regions).

My guess is there will be no old servers at all, but we'll see when phase 3 opens and NDA is lifted.

none of the new lv 10 players will buy a plate armor for 100k. and the low level player base are mostly new players in ARR. supply/demand price balance.

and as i said. strangely i had no problems at all in FF11. how come? and it was not a relaunch like ARR when i joined FF11 after 2 years, i was maybe 1 new of 100. while in ARR a new player will be 1 of 1000 on a server. who knows.

im sure that at least 40% of the players in ARR are going to be new players if not more. it depends of how successfull ARR is going to be.

See that just doesn't make sense. The old servers aren't compatible with the new client, that's one of the main points about the remake... all new everything.

My guess is there will be a whole new list of servers some designated for 1.0 players and some designated for new players all divided up by region and we'll pick which server our old characters are placed on.

Apologies in advance if this is confusing:

SE seems to be planning to open up servers for existing (version 1) characters in all 3 regions, as well as allowing enough room for all version 1 players to return and reactivate their characters. In other words, there could be more ARR servers for version 1 characters than there were in version 1.

SE has mentioned they would allow each character one transfer to one of these new "existing character" servers at launch. If you don't choose a server, your character will transfer to a default server, to avoid splitting up your version 1 server's community.

I think this because people may want to transfer their existing characters to their region. Also maybe to deal with all the inactive characters on each server (people who quit and never came back), who will probably reactivate to try their ARR free month. (Remember there was a 2-to-1 server merge last year, and all those inactive characters are still around.)

I hope that made some sense, to someone, somewhere. :)

I'm afraid I can only infer the point you're trying to make with this, and it's still off-base. I'm assuming what you're arguing is,

"Because plate armor sold in 1.0 at 100k, people are going to continue selling it at 100k regardless of the global 1/10th redenomination,"

to which I would respond,

"Chances are pretty slim that many people would do this, and the few that try will learn quickly that their goods aren't selling. The reason for this is because of the very same global 1/10th redenomination of all existing in-game currency, causing every player trying to sell a good will do so based on that good's average worth based on the adjusted economy (economy being the money people actually have)."

In other words, your argument is based on conjecture. It would be like saying that in 1.0, one or two people try price-gouging an item while the other two-dozen exact same items are still selling for a reasonable price. Who's going to be making the sales in this scenario: the gougers or the majority with reasonable prices?

Mmmkay, that's neither here nor there, because as I said, this setup will also exist in ARR's pre-existing servers where new players aren't locked out from jumping in. Please stop arguing points that are irrelevant.

Two types of servers we're talking about here (if there are additional types, I don't know about them):
OLD 1.0 SERVERS: 1.0 characters stay (and can transfer amongst themselves), 2.0 characters welcome
NEW 2.0 SERVERS: 1.0 characters prohibited, 2.0 characters only

I should hope that the new servers are powerful enough to deal with at least 3x the characters that the 1.0 2010 servers could, on account of better hardware and software being in use.

That's conjecture on my part, but I don't think it's an unreasonable assumption given what we've been told so far.

The new servers can handle more players per zone better then 1.0. That was the point in alpha and beta and yoshi-p said they fix most of the issue.

Also to the rest of this topic i don't think they going to use the old names like Sargatanas,Ridill and so on. Because we all know some world would be turn to JP,EU or NA servers. If your world would became a JP most EU,NA be mad that there world is now in Japan and blah blah blah. So i think they just going to give them new names and be done with it. It's the fastest and simple way to fix that issue. The only world we wont be allow to pick is level 1 starting one but we still can make a char and log on to that if we like.

a server is software that controls everything and serves the client. the hardware is one big interconnected mesh of shared power. not sure if they use VM's but i pertty sure they do to run whatever is on there data center.

the only thing thats going to be the same is the name of the server.

This is FALSE. Yoshi never said this.

You WILL be able to transfer off your old world if you want- There will be BOTH servers for everyone that you can transfer to, AND "Fresh start" servers that you can only create new characters on.

This ^.

They will also add more "old" servers if they need to to compensate for all the old characters coming back to try 2.0. They won't just congest us tightly into the x amount of servers that were available to us back in 1.23 (unless the 2.0 servers can handle that many players).

All they are restricting is us old players moving to "fresh start" servers. That is all.

Edit: went on for so long I forgot I'd quoted someone. Yes, it's there to keep 1.0 players from disrupting the natural growth of new economies by spontaneously flooding the markets with items an gil obtained in 1.0, oblivious to the true value of either.

For instance, Ash Logs might be much easier to obtain in ARR than in 1.0, but I wouldn't know how to calibrate that if I didn't obtain in the new system, so any guess at a supply rate is unfounded. On top of that, we don't know how useful Ash will be compared to other lumbers, making any guess at demand unfounded. Basically the new value of any given item is completely unknown, and there will be a typhoon of 99stacked items like this simultaneously and spontaneously introduced to the world at launch, and the resulting gil storm will be fierce.

I think the original topic, however, is that a lot of the 1.0 servers will be occupied by 1.0's inactive players. Unfortunately there's no way to get around this, because anyone with a 1.0 account needs to be able to access the game or it wouldn't be fair. I just hope we don't wind up with empty-ish servers because they're reserving 60% of the slots for people who aren't coming back. Or worse, for cancelled RMT accounts. We all know how they loved to make tons of accounts >.<

Yes, a distinction between "newborn" servers and "reborn" servers.

The way I understand it is that Old players will not be able to transfer to a New Server. That doesn't mean they wont be able to transfer to another Old server. I'm sure we won't be locked into just one server. It would defeat the purpose of making regional servers for people that want to have a better ping.

Your understanding is incorrect. There will be new servers available that everyone can join and 1.0 characters can transfer to, and then there are also "fresh start" servers which only accept new characters.

The "old servers" are all located in japan. You will only remain on those servers if you choose not to transfer elsewhere.

All I can say is, what the OP has suggested is possible but letting players like myself onto entirely new servers is also counter-progressive because some of us, even after the 90% Gil cut still have 2~900 million Gil, depends who you ask >_<

I'm honestly just trying to hope for the best, because it's likely nothing we say and do now, or at least until the release when everything is undoubtedly chaotic - I mean, what Yoshida and the SE team are doing hasn't exactly been done commonly, so we're going to have issues. Iunno We'll have to see over the next few months.

You don't exist in a vaccum. Other existing players will be joining the servers as well, and you also have the option to just make a new character on a fresh start server if you're fearful of the impact of moving to a new server- which many games have set up new servers and transferred existing players to them all the time and the fears most people express are generally unfounded.

New players will also be joining the "old" servers as well, so everyone's in the same boat.

Also, your "gil cut" was not a gil cut. It was a redenomination, and the gil value of all NPC services and vendor prices was scaled accordingly. Yes, we will be bringing gil into whatever server we join, but in all actuality, it will help accelerate the establishment of the economy, whereas on the fresh start servers, it will take considerably more time to develop.

This is new to me. Granted, I haven't payed too much attention to server transfers. Do you happen to have a source where it states all old servers will remain in Japan? I thought "old servers" really meant the server world itself. What's to say they don't copy the "world" over to another server in a different region? I highly doubt they will force all old players that had lag issues in the Japanese-based severs to stay there. I may be wrong though.

My guess is that maybe Ragnarok (the "EU server") might default its players to a server in Europe, but the rest, or at least any with a significant percentage of JP players, would default its players to a server in Japan.

or they could do what i said early which make the most sense make new names for servers. Because how many people going to get piss at the fact there world is now JP. So it's best just to rename all the worlds and set some to JP,EU or NA.

For the same reason you stated, It wouldn't be fair to the japanese for those servers to be moved elsewhere as their lag would increase, and everyone else is already used to the original setup. It makes no sense for them to move the old servers.

This information basically states that if you choose not to transfer anywhere, you will automatically end up on the same world with all the other people from your old world that also did not choose to transfer.

That is why you wouldn't move ALL the "old" servers to a different region and leave some in Japan. Giving the option of "old" server to "old" server transfers for "old" players at launch (which I'm pretty sure they said will be possible), they give everyone the option of choosing which server fits their needs the best.
