Last thing the world needs is to increase a player's financial burden in a videogame.

I don't think it's unfair to say teleporting in Final Fantasy XIV is a necessity. We're sent, so often, to every corner of the world that to try and walk the distance is an unfair debit on the player's time.

Whatever your belief about whether or not an increased teleportation fee is sustainable, whether or not the players can afford it, I don't think it's kind to increase these costs that have remained a fixed point, after so long.

At 1500 gil a teleport, we're in a territory where players will have to seriously begin considering whether or not a teleport is needed. "Maybe it's cheaper to buy this from the market board than from [Endwalker vendor]...", and these sorts of considerations have very troubling allegories in the real world. People are forced, every day, to decide between what's desired and what's necessary.

The XIV team has always been so supportive of players playing this game in a manner that best suits the player. To ensure that the player's enjoyment is paramount. To risk introducing the real life considerations that come along with surviving capitalism into a media meant as a form of - forgive me - Fantasy and escapism, is needlessly cruel.

It's very easy to say "well just run roulettes," or the like, but that's just more accounting. "I got 9000 gil, that's enough for 6 teleports before I have to run another roulette...", and we start treading on very grim wage slavery territory.

I don't have a perfect solution for gil inflation, other than to say that I really don't believe it's a problem that needs solving. Every market in the game is perpetually crashed, and restricting gil gains won't improve that. All I can say is that this is a path I really hope we can steer away from, and try to find a better way.

I think they do the teleport cost increase for a few reasons:
-Gil sink. Though I think it is better for them just introduce more gilded mount that costs 10m gil+
-Make BLU's contents relevant. Aetheryte tickets that give free teleport are traded with Allied Seals, which BLU gets a lot doing weekly.
-Make Squadron a bit more relevant with their teleport discount buff. Same with FC buff with the same effect.

-Make more people use 2-step verification for that free destination, thus improve players' security. Less players get hacked -> less headache for support team.

honestly... given they said that some travels are "cheaper" after the rework.. a strategic placement of the home aetheryte and the Free teleport location for the sec token may be far more important now.
Placing them so that their "areas" barely overlap(so that the most expensive teleport is roughly equal "distance"(aka story progress) from another to basicly "cap" the teleport fee manualy by sandwiching everything around 2 Free locations) it would increase teleport times as you would have to warp to your home or free aetheryte first, btu if you are so deadset on optimizing your gill spending, these 20 seconds shoudl not hurt you.

It may also give some people an incentive to travel by mount more often in areas or unlock flying faster in expansion areas(i havent unlocked flying in alll but 4 expansion areas because i find it not needed) to cut down on teleport costs at the price of spending travel time

There's no logical purpose for a gil sink. The fear is that players having a surplus will drive inflation on the Market Board, but it takes just a cursory glance at the MB to see that nearly every market is crashed. Restricting the buying power of your would-be consumers doesn't help that.

I don't personally feel that asking players to endure an additional loading screen is a fair compromise. Especially for things like Hunt Marks, it's imperative to get on-site as quickly as possible and once again, asking players to weigh the rewards of an S rank against the gil expenditure and the risk of losing the mark is a bit of accounting that players shouldn't need to consider.

Never mind that asking players to slow down their gameplay by introducing obtuse mechanics where none exist now is just anti-player behavior, and can't really be condoned.

I am finally at the point where I have accumulated a decent amount of aetheryte tickets for free teleports, but it took me longer than most people because I don't normally jump on the hunt trains. Inflation is a constant problem within any living economy and has to be managed. The markets have crashed because we are so close to a new expansion, over the course of the whole game though they are still far higher than they used to be. Back in 2.0 endgame crafted gear, pre-melded would sell for 70k at best. On most servers it's probably 3 times higher than that now at peak prices. MMO games that don't tackle inflation quickly become extremely difficult for new players to establish themselves and the developers lose the ability to control inflation with things such as vendor or teleportation costs, because the player driven part of the economy makes all vendor transactions completely trivial. It is vital for a healthy economy in an MMO that the developers have the ability to apply the brakes and adjust the valves within the economy, because inflation will destroy that economy if left unchecked.


The big problem with the economy in this game is that gil is almost worthless once you get to a certain point, the RMT must be preying on sprouts or people buying clears because I can't think for the life of me why any established player would even be tempted to use them.

All of the large gil sinks they have put in the game have largely been a failure, housing is a disaster and the two mounts are so fugly I don't think I've even seen one in game yet. By far the most effective way of trickling gil out of the economy in this game is repairs, teleportation costs and market board taxes. They are effectively bills we all have to pay (crafter's get cheaper repairs but still have to pay in the end and leveling crafter's is, in of itself, a gil sink.)

Two words: aetheryte ticket. Do the Hunt, build up Hunt currency. Spend it on stacks of thousands of aetheryte tickets. Repeat as necessary when you consume your stacks of tickets. You'll never need to pay for teleportation with gil again.

I disagree. There are very brief periods where the markets are viable - patches, mostly - but outside of that, prices have been flat since Stormblood. Finding an HQ crafted chestpiece for <100k is not uncommon. The largest driving factor, in my opinion, of the prices is the ease with which new players can access end game crafting. With its streamlined leveling and effective removal of RNG, anyone with the motivation can list 5 HQ DoH tools on the MB at a time to drive the price down.

Several new systems have been introduced since 2.0 to create gil. Some increases are expected, but to say that we are anywhere near a run-away effect is ... Perhaps overly fearful. The only instance where I can imagine a new player might be disadvantaged would be buying gear on a patch day - one of those times where I mentioned prices spike. However, if the concern is that new players are being outpriced from participating in end-game content on patch days, the far simpler solution is to sell raid-ready gear at a vendor rather than siphon gil from the entire population and hope the reduction in purchasing power somehow drives a much larger reduction in supply? I'm doubtful.

You make 20,000 in pure profits from Doman Restoration, every single week, forever. 40 Allagan coins from your retainers double in value instantly.

Or, you can get something like 3-4,000 gil in Allagan coins from each of your retainers, every single day of the week. You can fund your retainers for a week or so from 1 single unsync'd run of Gubal Library Normal mode in like 10 minutes. Maybe two runs.

If that doesn't cover your teleport costs for the week, I really don't know what to tell you.

If that alone doesn't cover your teleport costs I don't know what to tell you. Maybe trade in coffee biscuits for a cool million gil? Utilize return or your free/cheap teleport spots better?

This is a fallacious argument.

One, my primary concern is that the player should not have to be concerned with earning enough wealth to use basic functions of the game like teleports.

Second, if the purpose of the increase is to remove gil from the economy, but it's so easily defeated as you say, then the change is ineffective and serves no purpose other than to tax the player's time. The simpler course is to not introduce the change at all and leave the players alone.

They spoke about this in the LL.

It's meant to be a gil sink and to combat inflation. More players teleport daily than players who buy gaudy mounts as a one off purchase.

If anything, teleport prices are too cheap considering all the ways teleport costs are either free or reduced:

1. Atheryte tickets
2. Reduced tp costs via GC buff
3. Reduced tp costs via FC buff
4. Free destinations
5. Favoured destinations
6. Return by death BLU mage
7. Free Home Point
8. Shared teleports
9. Teleport to EB partner
10.Teleport for new characters

And this list might not be complete.

And I'm telling you, SE is being EXTREMELY generous by practically ramming gil down your throat.

Your first concern is a non-issue. Your average player is not concerned with that level on income. The game is specifically gil to cover things, like teleports.

For your second, again, every expansion introduces more and more ways to make a lot of easy cash. They need to remove it somehow. Personally, I'd rather an increased tax for something than to have these options not added.

A massive difference that you don't seem to be considering is that in 2.0 to create that end game gear for 70k you had to be an omni-crafter. Long before all the easy methods to level crafters had been introduced and leves got buffed so the markets where controlled by half a dozen people on each server. It was a huge commitment to get into a position to even make that gear and most of the players where still leveling combat jobs or doing MSQ.

Fast forward to today and anyone can level a crafter to 80 in a day (omni-crafter no longer required) and start knocking out endgame gear with a macro they found on the internet and a few million gil spent on gear and materia. The market for these items has literally only just really crashed, up until maybe a week ago I couldn't make rings fast enough unless I full timed crafting and they were selling for 120k easily enough. In the last week, maybe two, they have finally crashed down to 50-60k, making them not worth doing once mats are taken into account.

So despite how easy it is to get into a position where you can make these items now, compared to how hard it used to be, 3 months before an expansion you could still make far more money, far more quickly than during 2.0 when the markets were far harder to access.

That's inflation, and a lot of it.

OP, I wanna try to help you- really. The low post count and combative attitude scream troll, but I want to give you the benefit of the doubt.

So, in case it wasn't abundantly clear:

Yes, you need to have gil to do very stupid things in this game, like pay for transit or pay for repairs (if you're not a crafter). There are very few other places where gil is actively, regularly leaving the economy at a steady drip. You could argue houses or glamours, but that's still nothing compared to the gil being generated.

There are tons of options to make gil a non issue, many of which are passive and require very little effort. This is a far cry from my FF11 days of spending a week farming onions just to buy a new belt or whatever.

If you can't find ways to cover your daily costs, find them. They exist. I've very metaphorically "lead a horse to water, but I can't force them to drink".

I mean, if they announced "Teleporting to the moon costs 100,000 gil" I could see your point? In what world is 1500 an even noticeable amount of gil to someone at level 80? (Or, heck, for that matter, level 50?)

You are more than welcome to browse on Universalis and research the sales history of any item, on any server. 120k was actually reasonably reserved, some items were closer to 200k only weeks ago, and it was quite common to sell for up to 150k for accessories.

You will not be teleporting once. Nor is the moon your only destination.

Hunters easily teleport hundreds of times a week. Even playing casually, I average 100 teleports a week. Various content does not always produce gil as a reward.

The capacity to earn has increased.

Higher prices are not bad in of themselves. The capacity for a person to purchase is what's important, and with the various systems that are in the game, combined with the state of the markets - that haven't supported 200k rings in ages despite your protestations - means very few items are out of reach of an invested player.

Inflation has to be controlled, if you can't understand that then there isn't much more anyone can say to you. In the real world, countries collapse when inflation gets out of hand, in the game world games do the same. There are many examples of games where rampant inflation has completely ruined a game and developers, quite rightly so, like to be able to influence it before it gets out of control. It's much easier to control it now, than once it starts to get out of hand.

On the contrary, aside from the first two or three weeks after a patch drops with new gear recipes, prices on average have been lower and they honestly should be. It used to be you could pay the same for a full set of crafted gear as you did for a medium house which IMHO is pretty ridiculous.

Edited to add: as someone who has played since the HW patch cycle, I know well how expensive crafted once was, having had to scramble to get my item level high enough just to continue with the patch story.

I mean, that's fine, you do you.. but all I've really gotten out of this is that you're unhappy with having to pay more money with your 100+ teleports per week doing the hunt.

There is no "more work to offset the tax". Additional options are continually added to make gil, which each person can decide what to do with. More gil is being made and circulating the server than is being removed. This was an easy solution.

For those of us NOT doing 100+ teleports per week, we can keep that extra gil. Again, given the choice between a new gil source and increased tax, or just keep things as they are with no new source, I want the new gil source. I teleport like..what.. 5 times a week?

On the contrary, aside from the first two or three weeks after a patch drops with new gear recipes, prices on average have been lower and they honestly should be. It used to be you could pay the same for a full set of crafted gear as you did for a medium house which IMHO is pretty ridiculous.

Edited to add: as someone who has played since the HW patch cycle, I know well how expensive crafted once was, having had to scramble to get my item level high enough just to continue with the patch story.

15 million for a set of gear which will be out of date in a few months is crazy, fair enough. That sounds more like a spike in prices at the drop of new content though. The materials to make it would also be massively inflated but prices do always stabilize after a while.
