Multi-tank busters should apply to the main tank in an alliance instead of a DPS

if a tank in an alliance dies the buster should apply a 2nd time to whoever is MT, because they have the utility to survive a 2nd buster, it's been horrible playing the nier raids as a DPS and getting the buster when your party's tank dies

as a dps you have no way to counter the buster and it's not your fault if your party's tank dies

If you die it's the fault of the other tanks that did not use tank stances to stay second on the enmity list, which is supposed to be their job.

Enmity is easy enough as it is, let's not make it even more dumb.

but sometimes a tank dies and I feel it should be the responsability of the other tanks to use their CDs to mitigate a double damage buster if anything it doesn't dumb down the experience but makes CD management even more important for tanks in alliance raids and it will make invulns more important to save incase a tank on another party dies

keeping it as it is means now means the other tanks don't have to take any responsability and won't acknowledge that they are getting members killed

but we're a whole alliance, that means the other tanks should take the L if another tank dies just like how if a healer dies then the other healer has to solo heal, it's been so bad in the Nier raids that I almost exclusively go as tank for them now just to avoid this mess

In alliance raids, tanks don't need to be 1st in their party list, except for the MT.

Tank busters are targeted at TANKs - no matter what - first, and then next in aggro list, if there is no tank.

Except this doesn't really apply in alliance raid, in theory yes tanks should be second and third in threat in case MT dies or whatever, but unfortunately most tanks typically have a stand off on who's going to be MT, so typically the other two tanks probably won't have their stance active.

Specifically in OPs scenario, if a tank is dead at the point in a 24 man when three tank busters always go out simultaneously, it will target a non tank, if 1 or more tanks are dead on the floor.

But as noted, OP just needs to suck it up, not always the tanks fault for dying, and besides, not like it actually matters, there's no actual enrage timer to beat on 24 man fights.

And this is why I always say the Off-Tank should never have their tank stance off. Just use shirk after your initial burst.

Fundamentals people.

As I and aodhan have said above: in the scenario that OP describes, there is already a MT, and they want them to take 2 (or 3) tank busters at once when there is 1 (or 2) tanks missing/dead on the ground. In alliance raids, you don't need tank stances on one boss except for the MT, and you shouldn't use it either. It would turn into an aggro fight, as you have no freaking clue how much aggro the other generates until you rip the boss from them. And then we would be back to square one.

They just need one invuln to survive a million tankbusters worth of damage at once, you don't need the invulns active 24/7

and the devs can program the fights to split the buster from the dead tank to the other 2 tanks if they wanted to that's what the thread is suggesting

The scenario OP wrote is something else entirely, since that's just bad luck if the only tank in the alliance party is down. But this happens a lot when OTs don't have their stance on.

I can understand when people are new to 24 man raids, and they have some fairly cryptic telegraphs at times and tanks die. But if what you're proposing is if 2 tanks are dead, and that when the tank busters go out the only tank alive gets all three? I can't slow blink enough for this....

The current design of falling to the next in line for agro per group is better then deleting a tank for understanding the fight. I should not be punished because I tank well and get one shot because my co tanks made mistakes.

Agro should be the tanks SOLE responsibility, and if tanks don't have tank stance ON...you're doing it wrong! Tank stance should always be on which is why I say it's ONE step away from becoming a trait, which would further solidify tanks having to work together rather then a pissing match of who can do the most tank DPS.

These recent threads are telling me more and more about how little DPS mains know about tanking and agro management in general.

Example: Diamond Ex has a tank specific line AOE that goes out periodically to the highest agro two party members. If I'm tanking...and I bite it...that line aoe will more then likely target a healer or highest DPS and most DPS/Healers don't know its coming until I see them scramble out of the group hitting everyone on the way out. When I get a rez....I MUST PROVOKE ASAP or that line aoe will just keep deleting people...one...by...one... Flip that around....when I heal or DPS...I know this a thing because I have tanked Diamond Ex like 100 times. I see a tank is dead...I instantly look at the agro bars...Let's say I'm gold and I'm second on in line for agro....I'm on my MNK.

You're saying I should pop Diversion to keep myself from dyeing...agro then goes to the WHM....that healer gets one shot. Should I have used Diversion?

The answer is NO.....because Diversions intent was to help tanks that couldn't output enough DPS to hold agro effectively.

Here's some pearls of wisdom...talk to your tanks...let them know what's up...help them...stop trying to make DPS even more braindead then it already is by pushing mechanics off you're shoulders onto the tanks....they have enough to deal with keeping your selfish ass alive.

Please keep in mind that not every tank has high gear, so every tank buster can hurt a ton. They are just doing their thing, so don't expect anything that requires high awareness.
Please keep in mind that not every healer in alliance raids are aware of other parties tanks, mechanics/movement etc., or some are even too fixed on dmg.
This is just a disclaimer, as this is my general experience in alliance raids, so yours might differ.

The most important role in alliance raids is healer, followed by tank, at last place dps.
Let's say we have following situation: (which in my experience is quite common during "content drought", or first week)
Your party's tank is down (for whatever reason, let's call them captain vul stacks), right after some mechanic happens that requires movement, and aoe dmg is incoming. Other party's (and your own) healers are either occupied (rezzing peeps etc.) or dead. 3 tank busters go out, but instead of targeting someone from your party, the 3rd and last tank buster hit the MT, also - just as you suggested. Our MT does not have invul ready, so they are using at least one mitigation CD.
This brings up some questions:
Is the MT aware that one tank is missing and 1-2 CD are not enough?
Is the other (last) tank going to survive the tank buster plus auto hit while the healers are occupied?
And lastly: is the boss going rampage through the alliance?

In my experience this is most likely to happen. This would not happen as long as the last tank buster hits some random dps.
Yes, it sucks, especially when you are top dps. But it's less likely to result in a wipe than with your suggestion implemented.

Alliance raids are what you would call "afk/braindead content". Neither you nor me can expect others looking further than their own shadows. I wish it would be different, but that's just how it is.

I literally got killed yesterday by these hard working tanks letting me keep aggro on a 24 man boss for 8 seconds

I literally play tank and have mostly played tank in most content including savage since heavensward, so you can't say I don't know how it works

on E12S the tanks can take the vuln stacks at the last phase without instantly dying but if a DPS did that they would die instantly to the same mechanic but this is a thread about alliance raids so let's not talk about savage

There is no priority of importance when a DPS/Healer get's freaking deleted by a tank buster and I can survive with 2/3rd of my HP still in tacked.

The priority shifts...constantly.....

Tank busters go out....tanks are high importance...keep them alive.
Group AOE that targets healers....healers are high importance.
DPS need to bait ground AOE....DPS are important.

There is no order of importance of roles...tanks need healers and DPS, Healers need tanks to soak damage, DPS need to crush that enrage timer.

I like to look at the end game content design like this:

DPS = a time limit mechanic...all DPS like to race the clock before enrage.

Healers = The Sims game method....which bar is the lowest...I must fill that bar. Everything is filled...I should DPS.

Tanks = Paper, Rock, Scissors. Tank buster is rock....Vengeance is paper, I win! Stack marker is Scissors...Shake it off is rock, I win again.

I'm aware that the busters would automatically go on a tank but OTs should always have tank stance on during alliance raids the poster said OTs don't need stances on at all

The idea is you you do your tank opener with the stance off and after the opener you can freely activate tank stance, if you somehow still end up stealing aggro it means the MT wasn't outputting enough damage to keep up with you

Dps is dead? -> Tank tanks, healers rez. The tank will most likely survive. The lowest risk to wipe.

Healer dead? -> (With a few exceptions) Party will probably wipe.

This is just the general census. There are cases with a (rez) mage, PLD with Clemency, WAR with NF, GNB with Aurora etc. where those "rules" don't apply. It just shows how "important" a certain role can be, measured on the probability to wipe the party/alliance.

That also means that - unless there is a hard dps check - dps should become the scapegoat incase sh*t hits the fan instead of the more important roles.

As you said you are a veteran tank...but you don't understand when you get a tank buster as a DPS....when the tank is dead? You believe it should go to another tank? So now it's not you're problem...but the party 50 yards away....now it's their problem? Got it!

You're literally complaining about being killed by "these braindead tanks" when you yourself have tanked savage....and don't say anything about their stance being off? Got it!

I will say this again.... a good tank will compliment the group by having their stance on and manage agro...and soaking as much damage as possible. Do my rotation is my #1 goal...#2 is stay alive. If I do both of those....tanking is STUPID ez

No. If things worked like that you would justify 1 or 2 tank/6 Healer/16 or 17 dps compositions and party targeting mechanics prevent other party's from being punished for another party messing up.

Different alliance fights have different targeting rules for their tankbusters, healerbusters and dpsbusters. Some fights have single target busters that target the person with the highest enmity while others have mutlitarget busters that prioritize the tank in each party. You can usually tell the difference based on how the fight is set up.

I mean you didn't state otherwise initially, and it is not an absolute requirement to turn your stance on as an OT in Alliance unless it's absolutely needed (adds), if tank goes down, and neither tank is second in threat you might get an auto attack before another tank takes over...so what?

In the event of a tank buster coming up just after your party's tank dies and you get targetted... tough is what it is, wait for a raise and get on with it.

Just feels you're venting out your salt at a bad experience in an Alliance raid, but tbh, Alliance raid is never been some high end content, it's always been a story/ catch up content.

No Alliance raid has an aggro mechanic outside of MT taking auto attacks or adds, unless the tanks are dead before simultaneous tankbusters, then it will target first threat I guess in the dead tanks party.

For the number of times I have tanked in alliance raid, I take almost no damage even with tank buster, as long as you know how to anticipate and the healers are not sleeping, with a little bit of stuff, even with the two dead healers, you can still hold on for a good while, until the next tank buster, if the healers of the other groups are not sleeping too.

Well timed, a defensive tank CD + mitigation that all healers have, you don't take more than 20% of your Max HP.
Also, there are no mechanics to switch between tanks in Raid Alliance. So don't try to make it even easier.

The raid alliance is relatively easy content. Stop trying to change the game, but try to progress, learn to play...

you didn't even the thread at all, nobody said anything about making the game easier for tanks, I am suggesting that tanks should be more difficult as a role
I want that 20% to be a 40% if another tank in a party is dead instead of just deleting a random member in the alliance
the game can even display an indicator over the tank buster marker with the the number 2 or a + sign to indicate that one of the OTs are dead so you need stronger CDs

Yea it's called picking up adds when they spawn and press the buttons that make the incoming damage less ouchie at the proper times. Then keep on top of rotation.

As long as the healers can weave a oGCD heal my way once in a while I should be fine, most of the Alliance raids don't even hurt that much tbh.

Because you have ONE main tank, not 2, nor 3.

when you're off tank you should be number 1 on your party's aggro list on bosses so if the main tank dies you're next in line to tank the fight instead of a dps dying

we literally have a skill called shirk which you can use on any low emnity party member in an alliance, and you can wait for your opener/burst to be done before turning on your stance just don't burst with tank stance on as an OT
aggro management is part of the tank role, if you can't manage your own aggro and start aggro fights that's your fault

Okay, so at present, enmity is a non-mechanic beyond remembering to turn it on and, maybe, if you are the most geared tank in an Alliance Raid yet do not actually want to tank (for... reasons?) turning it off for just the first 30 seconds or so of a pull (though... even that you could have just dealt with via Shirk alongside their Provoke).

So, turning a stance on, and maybe leaving it off for a bit when you don't want to tank despite being a (superiorly geared) tank... is the sum of mechanical affordances here that come from not having tank stance as a trait. You get to turn it on, and maybe sometimes off; that's it.

Now let's consider what mechanical complexity potentially goes to waste by not having tank stance as a trait, or for tankbusters to just first attempt to target tanks regardless of enmity. Tankbusters are meant, and often need, to be mitigated. Tanks have mitigation. A pretty natural pairing there, if you're looking for mechanic affordances. Except, the stance-less tank is not going to be highest enmity in their party, and therefore will not get the tankbuster. So there's no option for active mitigation. That mechanical affordance is wasted, replaced, at most, by Swiftcast-Raise after the DPS is hit for 140+% of their health pool.

It's a simple A-B affair. Is A (your ability to turn tank stance on and off, and/or that mattering in regard to tankbusters) worth also keeping B (tanks missing the opportunity to use tank skills on tankbusters, replacing tank mechanics with "How quickly can our highest DPS be raised back up from his recent case of 'been murdered'")?

I would say no, personally. It seems fine to have whatever tankbuster mechanics may target the player with highest enmity instead of necessarily targeting the party's tank to just... target the tank regardless.

Not "the mechanics", a specific mechanic that you may unexpectedly get marked for if the tank is dead.

If you get that marker, it is now your job as the person with the marker to stand clear of the party.

I don't know why people are even talking about enmity in regard to this mechanic if it's going to target the tank regardless of their status, as long as they are alive. If they're dead, it doesn't matter how much enmity they previously had. Neither will Diversion stop the mechanic from passing to a non-tank member of the party, whether it's you or not.

Trying to pass it around would only sow more chaos at a party scale, even if it helps you individually.
