Old original post:

In patch 2.38 I was capable of easily doing fast runs of Hullbreaker, Tam Tara, or Stone Vigil.

Then do a few hunts (10 A ranks) and obtain 200 seals and 800 mythology.

Among these three easy to accomplish tasks i could obtain 3 alexandrite per day.

Now in patch 2.4, 2.41 I have to do, the yet again higher item level dungeons of Sastasha, Snowcloak or Qarn.

On top of the next higher tier of dungeon i'm not only not finding parties to do hunts, but the site isnt being kept updated, but the A ranks only drop 20 soldiery which requires now 20 A ranks to obtain a Mysterious Map.

On top of this spiritbonding for materia now requires to enter a dungeon, and if youre a dps you can forget about spiritbonding grade IV materia with i70 gear or higher because of the dps queue waits.

To sum it all up:

Patch 2.28

Novus= 5 items level below maximum weapon item level

Patch 2.3

Hunts added

10 A ranks + Expert Roulette = 3 Alexandrite

Patch 2.4

Novus= 20 item levels below maximum weapon item level
10 A ranks + Expert Roulette = 2 Alexandrite
Spiritbonding i70+ can only be done in dungeons.


Why is old/dated gear exceedingly more time consuming to obtain??????????

FATEs also drop Alexandrite but at an -insanely- extreme low drop rate. Thus unless youre solely farming Light on a Novus youre wasting a lot of time trying to obtain alexandrite though FATEs. (unless i guess you are in dire need of Grand company seals.)

So then why not increase the seals rewards from hunts if the main focus for hunts is to obtain allied seals?

Yes because 250 days to obtain 10 Novus weapons is too easy and not really time consuming. (Thats getting 3 alexandrite per day.) (300 days to obtain all 10 novus in the current system, for gear you can easily get from Shiva hard instead.)

To obtain the previous 9 Relic Zenith weapons after patch 2.2 you simply needed some mythology and could obtain easily 1 relic per day. Now it takes almost a year at a steady pace? If you think thats balanced then i dont know what to tell you.

if i115 and i120 or even i130 was common place like i110 is now then id sooner agree but the outdated gear you speak of can beat the entirety of the final coil so its not quite outdated completely is it?

Where is the complaint?

I'm asking why they made it ---->more<------ time consuming than the --->previous<------ patches.

If they adjusted FATEs to line up with the current Atma drop rates then it would make sense, but they didnt. They left the FATE drop rates the same and increased the time to obtain alexandrite from the singular "farmable" methods. (you could also say farm dungeons for soli and just buy maps that way but i have to spend soli on Animus books, Scroll ink, and Zenith oil.

Ah i see, the part about being a dps and having dps queues. Excuse me for thinking about new players and putting how they might feel trying to obtain grade IV materia for their relics.

(if you must know i'm 50 both PLD and WAR of which are my mains actually thus when i need into a dungeon i get in instantly. Not everyone has that option though.)

Its 2.41. Settle down. Maybe by 2.45 you have a valid argument, but its only 2.41.

I'm with the OP. The bar on Alex keeps rising - the quest should now be high roulette so the dungeons/time spent remains the same, the cost of buying in seals should have been lowered to match the lower seal rewards from hunts. You don't create a 2-3 month quest, then keep on raising (and lowering) the bar for it. It should be consistent.

So the "constantly monitoring" of players' progression by SE doesn't make sense.

Patch 2.4 they obviously want everyone to catch up, but not catch up too quick. I see this as a great divide IMO particularly on my server that is Legacy, because Legacy typically means end-game focused, so while those of us had really bad luck getting any Atma weapon pre-2.4 we are going to be even further behind if we manage to even get an Animus/Novus before expan$ion (I still don't know which comes first) because everyone else is on the higher tiers.

Ppl cried for an atma ease, because the rng there was to bad, they got what they wanted + making novus easier obtainable by increased alexandrite drop conditions by fates

I think it is too early to ease this section of the relic quest. Was it not just in 2.4 where the atma drop rate was eased? They will make alexandrite easier to collect, but just not this soon :) maybe 2.45. And if you are going for all relic novus like it sounds you are, good luck with that, 4 sets of pre-nerfed atma for 4 weapons nearly killed me O.o

When was the Alex drop rate in fates increased? It's news to me. It's still 1% as far as I know. If they made the Alex drop rate the same as the Atmas they would still take much much longer to collect - 12 vs 75.

You didnt say increased drop rates but you said "easier obtainable" which is also a false statement. The drop rate is still the same but you can now, if you -already- have a novus can choose to farm light from fates and try to get alexandrite.

This doesnt mean alexandrite is easier to obtain, because people who dont have a Novus still have a more time consuming opportunity as opposed to those who were trying to get novus in 2.38. It only means people who are trying to get nexus can also maybe get 5-10 alexandrite after their 3000 FATEs to get Nexus.

Who said you "have" to dungeons to get grade 4 materia? You can easily SB outside of dungeons and get all required materia without waiting for ques...

I certainly did not. But if youre melding Grade IV, the likeliness of getting IV from i46-i50 to spiritbond outside of a dungeon is quite low, then the likeliness of getting a tier IV that you specifically want to meld is also low. The best way to obtain your desired grade IV is to spiritbond i70+ in a dungeon so youre not fighting actually getting a grade IV to begin with.

Unless it has changed it a recent patch (just got back from a break), ilvl70 should give no better chance than ilvl50 item for grade IV (or any grade for that matter). I have been SBing with my choco using HQ lvl 48 accessories only done 2 sets and got 2 IV's.

EDIT: Just Googled it. 2.35 made the changed, you sir are correct.

Following the above changes to spiritbond gain, the probability of converting gear item level 70 or above into grade IV materia will now vary depending on the item level of the gear converted.

There was an adjustment sometime in patch 2.3-2.38.

i70 grants a higher % at grade IV, and i90 an even higher chance at grade IV. Any gear above i believe i55 will have 0 or a negligible spiritbond rate outside of a dungeon, and not every dungeon spiritbonds the same gear item level on top of this..

BTW this conversation is almost completely off topic. The topic is the time needed to spend to obtain alexandrite. I just added that they made it more time consuming as a dps to obtain materia since its part of the novus quest.

It would be nice if Alexandrite could be worked on by those who do not need it yet, slower acquisition than those that do but w/e by the time I am at the stage of needing to collect Alexandrite, there will be a whole lot of other content making it an obsolete venture.

The thing, you're looking at only hunts for obtaining alexendrites, which you shouldn't.

Yes, hunts is slower for obtaining alexendrites. But everyone can agree that on 2.3, hunts were overpowered for their rewards in regards to how much myths it rewarded.
Yes, the amount of soldiery you get per dungeon run is relatively the same in regards to the reduced tomestone cost for alexendrite maps.

But this is what you're missing, the roulette tomestone bonuses are better in this regard. In 2.3, a full day of roulette would only get you around 400 or so myth tomes, out of the 800 needed for a map. 2.4, a day of roulette gets you around 330 soldiery out of 400 needed for a map. This isn't even factoring first time bonuses (which are unchanged, they give +60 for heroic tier, and +100 for trials)

People need to stop looking at only hunts, because this is far from the only way to receive tomestones/alexendrites. It was pretty overpowered and ridiculous so it had to beknocked down a notch, but getting your tomestones from daily roulette and first-time bonus is a faster process than it was with myths.

You also brought up IV materia as another gate to novus; While it's good to have, is not mandatory or required to finish a novus. 1~5 secondary stats are hardly gamebreaking unless you're hard core min/maxing for world firsts. Not to mention you can still get IV materia from level 46+ gear, albeit at a lower rate. The spirit bonding thing was also in 2.3 (or at least during that period), not 2.4. I'm not sure why you'd bring this up as a problem now.

As for other options being more easily obtained, this is only true for the unweathered weapons...and has been the case since 2.3, moreso in 2.35. Unless you're telling me as of right now, you can waltz into final coil and get a tomestone there (which then renders this point moot, but thats the final content as of this patch).

Tl;DR : Saying that "it is harder/more time consuming" to get alexendrites as a whole is utterly untrue, because it's significantly easier to get it through completing roulette and getting first time bonuses (~330 soldiery from roulettes versus ~400 myths from roulettes). Obtaining alexendrites purely through dungeon rewards is unchanged for the most part, and hunts were nerfed.

I did in fact state multiple ways to obtain alexandrite, you simply disregarded them.

Daily roulette is locked behind... well a daily task. Hunts were not, while they were locked behind an hourly rate, the amount of hunts you could do in a 3 hour span, would always result in at least 2 alexandrite. Most people can easily do 3 hours of hunts per day, as a daily task.

So with your avenue of doing the full set of duty roulette youre not even granted 2 alexandrite, while the 2.3 avenue was 3 alexandrite per day.

Also it is important to bring up tier IV because a lot of people do want 2 stats capped. I personally do not, but there are people who are doing it thus its relevant to bring up. Is it required? No. Is it an option and should be brought up when discussing Alexandrite, and novus? Yes.

The overlaying statement here is that Novus and Nexus are more time consuming as opposed to 2.3

The solution?

Possible solutions:

-Hunts drop a much larger number of seals.
-Daily "expert" quest is dropped to High level Roulette.
-Alexandrite drop rates from FATEs brought to the current drop rate as Atma.
-Alexandrite allies seal cost is dropped to 50, and Map cost dropped to 50 if the "expert" quest is left as expert ensuring at least 2 alexandrite per expert roulette.


The Reason??

Because you need SEVENTY FIVE Alexandrite and SEVENTY FIVE Materia to get a only -slightly- better weapon than Shiva, which is an extremely easy fight.


This topic doesnt even include the time it takes to get Animus which is also still time consuming but thankfully that process hasnt been touched in relation to time needed to complete directly, when Alexandrite acquisition has.



The overview: "TL: DR"

Patch, 2.3
3 Alexandrite per day = 25 days to complete Novus

Patch 2.4 my proposed method
2.5 Alexandrite per day = 30 days to complete Novus

Patch 2.4 RiceisNice's proposed method
1.9 Alexandrite per day 39 days to complete Novus


Farm Shiva for 3 hours obtain desired i110 weapon.....

As for your solutions

-Why do we need to increase the amount of seals? It used to be that it gave way too many seals in comparison to the myth costs (30 for a ilvl90 top piece). - Now the issue that arrises is that the high level roulette includes dungeons that were in before the introduction of novus (and the daily alexendrite quest). What is the reasoning behind this exactly, are the expert dungeons too high of an ilvl relative to the novus proccess?
- If FATEs were the only way to obtain alexendrites, I'd agree. But it shouldn't be boosted to the same rate as Atma.
- Why drop both the alexendrite costs and the map cost to 50? You do realize that you can easily get 100 soldiery from trial and expert roulette alone? Or are we aiming to completely trivialize the novus step to be finished within a week?*


And this is just me. Hunts should not be the end-all way to obtain equipment into raiding. This is in response to you wanting to increase the amount of seal rewards from the hunts. This was entirely the issue with the majority of 2.3, and there was literally no reason to do dungeons even to gear up. If you feel that this should be how it is, then I can't say anymore and I'll agree to disagree.

If the topic was about the relic questline in general and how it just pales in comparison to current raid equipment, that's a different topic all together, so stick with the novus just for the sake of discussion. If it is because that other options are available...again this isn't even a new issue. We've had unweathered weapons dropping like hotcakes since 2.3, and more so in 2.35 when they upped the rates to 100% per ST run. Mind you unweathered is the same as shiva weapon, so I don't get why this is a problem now.

I'm not sure where you got this information from but that is wholly misleading. Maybe at like the bare minimum you could get 400 tomes, assuming you got the lowest level dungeons with no new-person bonuses, but you could reliably get around 500-600 myth per day easy from roulettes.
Main Scenario roulette alone could give ~200 myth tomes alone with a new person bonus.
High, trials, and main scenario gave 310 myth alone, not counting the tomes from the dungeons themselves or any new player bonus

As for your solutions

-Why do we need to increase the amount of seals? It used to be that it gave way too many seals in comparison to the myth costs (30 for a ilvl90 top piece). Now we have weathered (ilvl100) gear available for seals. They would have to adjust the cost of items on specific gear, and I'll explain why I feel this way later.
- Now the issue that arrises is that the high level roulette includes dungeons that were in before the introduction of novus (and the daily alexendrite quest). What is the reasoning behind this exactly, are the expert dungeons too high of an ilvl relative to the novus proccess?
- If FATEs were the only way to obtain alexendrites, I'd agree. But it shouldn't be boosted to the same rate as Atma.
- Why drop both the alexendrite costs and the map cost to 50? You do realize that you can easily get 100 soldiery from trial and expert roulette alone? Or are we aiming to completely trivialize the novus step to be finished within a week?*


And this is just me. Hunts should not be the end-all way to obtain equipment into raiding. This is in response to you wanting to increase the amount of seal rewards from the hunts. This was entirely the issue with the majority of 2.3, and there was literally no reason to do dungeons even to gear up. If you feel that this should be how it is, then I can't say anymore and I'll agree to disagree.

If the topic was about the relic questline in general and how it just pales in comparison to current raid equipment, that's a different topic all together, so stick with the novus just for the sake of discussion. If it is because that other options are available...again this isn't even a new issue. We've had unweathered weapons dropping like hotcakes since 2.3, and more so in 2.35 when they upped the rates to 100% per ST run. Mind you unweathered is the same as shiva weapon, so I don't get why this is a problem now.

To simplify my statement in direct response to you in this:

You yourself stated that you are granted 330 (base) of soldiery. (Yes with an off chance of getting a first time clear bonus but for sake of RNG and such lets just stick with 330.)

With 330, including the expert in that 330, you arent even capable of obtaining 2 alexandrite per day.

Doing hunts for 3 hours youre granted 2 Alexandrite coupled with expert roulette.

Most people only have about 3 hours a day to play.

(not me personally but this is a base i'm trying to work with.)

In 2.3 this was not the case. You were able to obtain 3 alexandrite per day.







So with that being said, and me trying to stay very calm towards square-enix, the simple statement in response to you would be:

If they nerfed turns 6-9 why would they make it more time consuming, and for sake of your side of the argument -NOT- make it much easier to obtain since you think they havent made it easier (since thats what me and you are discussing) to obtain Novus?

(my initial statement: TL: DR not only did novus not get "nerfed" but is now, in my opinion as well as others opinions, more time consuming.)

And then in response to myself, Atma got a nerf.

But who cares about atma, getting the 12 stones literally does nothing to the weapon battle wise.

No stat increase, no base damage increase nothing. Its literally just a cosmetic change.

Its a no brainer as to why people were so very angry for so very long over atma.

You get no stat increase until you obtain 500 soldiery (originally 1,500 myth) just to get 2 points in just one spot -after- doing 3 Dungeons, 3 FATEs, 100 Enemies, and 3 Leves.

I feel like this is an overarching problem with alot of previous content. This very similar to crafting and gathering progression. Needing X items to advance, but X items never getting an increase in drop or a nerf to the number needed while they continue to tack on more and more steps. Just switch X out with Alexandrite or Mastercraft Demimateria. SE seriously needs to review the way their new content interacts with the old content. The only real endgame stuff that's properly nerfed to interact with new content is Coil and EX primals. Crafters, gatherers, and relics don't really get the same kind of nerf proportional to the aforementioned endgame content. Sure, relics got an atma drop increase, which is nice, but that's virtually nothing considering Atma weapons are just reskinned i90 weapons. On the other hand, Levi EX and Ramuh EX have easily obtainable i100 weapons that require a substantial amount less grinding, and Shiva EX drops i110 weapons of all things without needing to grind for Alexandrite, and will eventually get nerfed and allow people to get easy i110 weapons.

The point is, none of this stuff is proportional to the new content. Crafters/Gatherers and their Mastercraft Demimateria, Relics and their Alexandrite, neither of these have gotten proper nerfs to compensate for the fact that they're not as valuable now that progression has continued, while Coil and EX primals continue to get nerfed as new stuff is added in. It's not really very fair or very good game design and needs to be critically reviewed.

it wouldnt be bad if the content somehow related.

Problem is nothing is related, thus like you said, all the old content is old and dated and like you said things like Novus etc are just old but still equally time consuming thus anyone wanting to obtain the next step in the line of steps has to put forth and absurd amount of effort in relation to just obtaining something else. Why try for Nexus when you can get i110 from shiva or i115 if youre kinda good from turn 9? There is no point for a newer player.

BUT

If they made it even remotely viable you bet your gil new players would put forth the effort towards nexus and materia etc if they knew it was customizable but didnt take 50 times as long to do. Thus more game play per new player, and old players would go back and obtain all 10 Nexus such as myself thus even old players would put more game play in.

At the very least they can re-add B ranks so there isnt a 2-3 hour span where there are no hunts, or at least so you dont need a party to do hunts, and can farm at your own pace.

I am assuming you mean revert B ranks to actual hunts instead of having them as they are now with elite marks, since they never technically took B ranks out.
I would rather they leave the B ranks as they are and instead revamp hunting with several new A and S ranks and an adjusted tome, seal and log drop rate that is viable for 2.4.
At least considering that all the stuff you buy with hunt seals is somewhat outdated anyhow, I don't see why it shouldn't be made easier to get stuff by adding more hunts and higher drop rates.

why is ilvl 100/110 gear outdated? they will add carbon and the new oil with 2.5 anyway for the cost of probably 4/6 books
