caps on all side quests and missions

like the title says, i'd like to see all quests and missions caped. for one thing most people don't get to them till they are absolutely too easy. fact most just 1shot there way threw them and done, the challenging part is not shooting youself in head for having to do all that running around to complete them.

if there were caps it would create a challenge for all of them, it could add lots of party play and maybe a solo level cap for it (but at it's most challenging for solo rank) though i prefer all party play.

besides them needing to add way more mini bosses to these, all of them would be so much more challenging an bring fun to it with just adding a cap to them. tyvm

I will go the opposite of Lienn and say that I 100% agree. That's what made FFXI missions entertaining and always a challenge. Whats the point of outranking a mission and complete it with hardly a sweat or leeching a group of high rank in your LS.

Level cap is always a good thing. Promotes skills and challenge. If you find level capped missions too hard for you, then go learn to play some more or change your strategy. If a mission was capped at X rank, it means it was balance for X rank and doing it when you are 10-20 ranks above just destroy the purpose of it all.

As long as you mean "artificially leveled-down to the appropriate rank," and not "if you're r50, you can't do it at all," I suppose I can get behind this.

Yeah I think he meant level-down to the appropriate rank for X mission like in FFXI. Not being able to do the mission/quest after you pass a "cap" would not be really a good design :)

If level cap was good then they wouldn't have to remove it from CoP areas due complaints. Caps only works as negatively restricting people's gameplay.

If you worked hard to reach a certain rank, why not being able to use it? IMO this game has no place for cap...however, a voluntary level adjustment like happened in XI during level sync effect is another completely different situation...When the player choses to lower his rank in order to play with someone else or to do something at the "correct" rank is a thing...but forcing everyone to do this is terrible.

Any kind of level cap would bting much more trouble to this game than benefits (if there is any benefit at all).

Agree 100% with rank cap to create challenge in quests and missions, and it's even more doable in FFXIV since we do not have to care much about the gear since it's still equippable if you're artificially ranked down (which wasn't the case in FFXI, tho that might have been changed).

Well Lienn, I really hope they do put level caps in this game. For the 5 years I spent in FFXI (played for a few months after the ToAU release) I never, ever, heard someone whining about the cap. It was fun to have your gear sets for X and X rank cap and comeup with a strategy to overcome the foes in missions. CoP was hard and it was fun, if they did remove the cap now well I'm very sad to hear that and to know that people going through those missions for the first time will never experience the game as it was designed to be.

FFXIV already has many flaws and lack of content, if they design dungeons for rank 30 and some for rank 50, it will be boring as hell to have your rank 50 friend come clear the way for you in your rank 30 dungeons. I think I'm not the only one who thinks that and I think the majority would be for capped missions/dungeons.

Edit: for the gears thing, It was a hassle more than anything even if it was fun to have special gears for each level cap, but it was fixed so that the gears would "level cap" with you, so there is no reason not to do that in FFXIV as well.

Edit #2: Games like WoW are extremely boring when it comes to replay value. Once your char has out-leveled the content, the content is trivial and becomes a joke, you take lowbies through dungeons and everything is so easy it's boring as hell... I want FFXIV to be a challenge, I want to come out with strategies for bosses, not just : "I'll come back when I am 10 ranks over"

Well, if you only played until a few months after ToAU release then its expected from you to not understand what i'm talking about ^^: I'm talking about ToAU end/WotG start...when CoP collapsed and SE noticed extreme hardcore content is a bad thing. You have no idea how more enjoyable FFXI became after they started making it more friendly to non-hardcore players.

And about gear, obviously you guys don't want challenge at all if you plan using the optimal rank system as excuse for cap. you cannot offer challenge unless you expect the player to have at its best at that rank...which is not even close to be the case. Adding cap would just add more inventory burden to players, more programing problems to dev team and a big complaint list.

Also, why the heck would a r50 go to r30 dungeons? When you say its a dungeon raid its expected to people go there mainly to grind...would you invite a r50 to your r30 party? And would you r50 join a r30 party...or even go there solo since r30 dungeons are meant to be light party content so its perfectly soloable by a r50? Of course not. A r50 would go to r50 dungeons since i bet rewards would be way more interesting than soloing r30 content.

There are many other ways of adding challenge to a game...and lv cap isn't one of them. However, its like i said...having the option of players voluntary adjusting their own rank down to match some kind of content is another completely different thing...it does would be a good idea even to have new and old players playing together.

What you are talking about is level sync right? Also, why the hell would a level (rank term will change to level) 50 VONLUNTARILY adjust their level to let's say 40 so that a certain boss fight is a challenge? You know well enough that no one would do that and choose the easy route and stay level 50 to outlevel the content.

Also why would a level 50 go to a level 30 dungeon? Well because their LS friend are asking for help? Because someone if paying them to take them? Imposing a cap would make every run a challenge, you would never outlevel the content. Even years later when you go help a new player, you are still faced with a challenge. When there is no cap, each expansion and new content just make the last content outdated and a waste of time.

And level-sync is not the topic of this thread, it's about quests and missions.

Oh and I did come back a few months when they released WoTG, still maybe you could enlighten me as to what don't I undertand about them removing the level cap instead of just say "its expected from you to not understand what i'm talking about ^^" and not give a simple explanation.

As for gears, if you played FFXI so much, you should know that with level-sync they introduced that the gears are adjusted (and the stats too) with your level. Also, in FFXIV even if you wear a rank 50 gears and you are rank 30, the stats you gain from it are riddiculous.

Instead of lowering you rank temporally, why not have the quests scale to your Rank?

Well if anything means something. We need to remember that classes are (more or less) used for soloing, from the words of the dev team. And that jobs (our party oriented versions), which we found out today, have no level. So there wouldn't be a need for level cap, since there are no levels for jobs. Maybe somehow limit classes from OPing the events tho would be a good idea ha.

if u seriously find 1shooting threw your content fun i can't even begin to understand you. i was thinking gear would change with u like in ffxi at some point cause yes i hated having to gear up low lv class to do caps. but anyone who complained near ffxi's end probably was to lazy to get a party going or ended up in sub par ones and cried. that is no reason to destroy content though, ffxi had great missions, and caps would of added a ton more hours of real game play instead of things you just run threw and never look back at. God knows they will never create side games that are fun enough to keep anyone doing them as u can see from ffxi. really caps on things would be all they need to create tons of hours of fun content.

If the person wouldn't do this by itheir own will, why would forcing them to do so make things better? This is exactly the point regarding lv cap...some people just don't want to play in a gimp version of his class because the game is forcing it...some people like it...some people like losing EXP when you die too...they think its exciting lose EXP ang get lv down because you died right after lvling up...but that's the minority...most players just want to have fun...they don't like cap, they don't like losing EXP, they don't like being forced to play in a different way they want.

If you want something to make stuff more challenging, ask sidequests to have difficulty option just like levequests...that's a very good point Skeloton said...insted of pulling players down, leave the option of adjusting the quest to player's rank...he can play it at default way tor just set it harder. ^^

but in all truthfullness the reason why people complain bout it is not cause they are dead set in solo'ing it, or 1shoting mobs. it's mostly cause they can't find players to do it with, that would create the same effect on the reverse side.

though being able to pick the difficulty would be cool too, it's the same concept long as theres a max level difficulty. besides it's not really forcing players to do it, it's just part of the game, u don't really question it till it becomes a problem. if they finally changed it in ffxi, it was on the last year or 2 of it's life where it was near impossible to get others to join or help. when situations become that bad, then is the time to change it, not to straight out ruin it from the get go to prevent what will not be an issue till many years into the future.

also i'm not saying they need to make every mission and side quest like this, even as much as ffxi had is a good start and they didn't have alot at all. but i really can't see your view, i can't understand how u consider it fun to do quests alone and 1shot them in matter of seconds. i can't comprehend it at all, i'd love your input on how u enjoy this over the latter.

Stupid argumentation. What you advocate is a meaningless grind to level cap, and then rushing through low-level dungeons with no effort. They did not remove the level cap from CoP because it was a bad idea per se, but in order to let people catch up easily on older content.

The problem with having content scale up is that if a rank 50 player wants to help a rank 20 player the quest is no longer rank 20 its now rank 50, locking out the rank 20 from being able to get in on the fight and detering high lv players from helping low lv players. I imagine it would be some work but beyound just sticking one arbitrary cap they could allow you to adjust the cap increasing the lv and difficulty of the boss your facing so it would be optional. All in all im all for caps.

Well, i see prople are starting to become aggressive with opposite opinions and this might be derailing soon...so that's it. You guys have my opinion, i'm pretty sure it won't ever happen because lv cap was almost entirely abollished from FFXI so make no sense adding it here so you guys can keep saying the positive points of it. Maybe if you show enough positive points things change.

level cap was the only reason COP was so successeful in ffxi. Caps keep people playing lower lvl content and keep it challenging. All other mmos atm not useing caps have empty zones from 1tocap and higher lvl just rush the lower lvls through the content for gear... that is what happens ALWAYS. caps are a good way of keeping diffculty up.

I really hope they give us caps on the new dungeons too.

EDIT: in case you don't know what i mean by caps. It doesnt mean higher lvls CANT do it. It means their gear and their lvl gets degraded to the cap to prevent people from goin through everything easy-mode. AFter the challenges, battles, instances are done, the cap is gone again. a simple and yet very effective system.

I rather help a low lvl friend and have fun and a challenge then just AOE my way through a dungeon and the friend sees nothing but a few effects and gets the gear... accomplishment? - none- great thing.
A lot of mmos don't use this and new players often never see some great dungeons on the way to cap, miss a lot of lore, fun and areas/content, because they get rushed through everything.

After ffxi got rid of the caps, the zones and challenges there became pointless. I bet they were listening to all the cry-for-easy-mode whiners... now theres is nothing challenging to do and this game suffers the disease of every other mmo, which it was almost immune to for a long time.

That's true for now but they are changing the term "rank" for level with the class changes in the upcoming patch.

I agree with this. Lienn's opinion just sound like "/cry the content is too hard for me I'll just come back when I can 1shot everything! and I should be entitled to because I grinded my way! Oh and I'll make people think I'm skilled because I got through the mission!"

Even if they add the option for difficulty like leves, why would someone try to do them on a harder mode if they could just as easily do it on loleasy1shotmode? And even the hard mode would not last long if you decide to do it when you outrank the mission.

Level cap is the best solution, it creates challenging fights everytime even for veterans helping lower rank. This game already promotes enough soloing and easy content, they need to add some real content.

Could this thread get a rep's answer as to what is plan for mission content so we know ahead of time is this game will mainstream with no level cap and make this game more boring, easy and wthout any real challenge? Or if they will go with the FFXI golden age of level cap? please.

i would love a reps answer to what there plans are for missions and quests in this game, it is one of the most important parts. along with anything that is party play. so if we could get a direction they are planning to go with it would be great.

Level sync and level cap is not the same thing. Level sync lets you downlevel yourself to play with your lower level friends. Level cap restricts your level to the cap level for a certain mission/dungeon so that it is more challenging than you being able to come when you outlevel the content and just faceroll through it.

I think this needs to be answered by a dev/rep really soon with those dungeons unveiled because more than ever I think this needs to be implemented in the game because it just goes all to hell so much it will fail.

Giving the option to players to voluntary downlevel themselves to make content more challenging is pointless since no one will use it. It will NEVER happen unless there is a greater chance for rewards, but even then I don't think anyone would go the hard path when you can just lolfaceroll your way through.

Implementing caps will allow the content to live longer and to be exciting and thrilling everytime you go, either for yourself or to help a lower LS friend.

Not putting a cap will just go this way upon release of these two dungeons: "Linkshell: Hey anyone rank 50 wants to come help me go through this level 25 dungeon?" ... 30min later the run is done, the level 25 was just sitting back /cheering his friends just lol1shot everything and 2shot the boss. If you don't like it, don't do it.

Basically your chief complaint seems to be that other people don't have to put in the work you do, so those people should be prevented from doing so in order for your feelings to not be hurt.

That is not a good design decision.

And yes, I know what Level Cap and Level Sync are, thank you.

I would suggest a system along the lines of The World Ends With You, with ranking boards to log completion times at certain tiers. The point is *incentivize*, not *mandate*.

I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion but I'd like to understand why you say it is not a good thing? It's easy just to state that and not like them because it creates a challenge and doesn't make content instant facerolls, but why is that not a good thing? Everytime I think back on FFXI at the time I was playing, level cap was one of the best thing ever. The missions were fun and challenging, completing them gave me shivers and palpitations when my team and I was able to defeat the boss. In CoP, even after being a veteran of promyvion and taking everyone of my friends and even strangers through those mission, I was still getting that feeling of satisfaction and thrills every damn time. How is that a bad thing compared to now, you could just completely faceroll your way through those places by being 10+ levels over the cap it was designed around.

I don't see your point except that you want everything to be easy for everyone.

I too had a strong sense of accomplishment when I beat COP, and also when I beat TOAU. However, much of that content requires five competent and time-available friends. Otherwise, you're rolling the dice over and over and over again. How many people got stuck on Promyvions and spend months throwing themselves at it before they finally got access to Tavnazia?

Short version of the above - Static parties are great but not everyone has the luxury of working with one, and pickup parties tend to suck.

So that said, I worked in the system. My wife would have sooner quit than repeatedly throw herself at the wall like that. And once the level caps got lifted, we still had fun with the content. Weird duo setups on Ouryu. We went into 8-4 with 5 people and then I couldn't even enter the battle because I got an extra cutscene in Empyreal Paradox as everyone was entering and by the time I was done, Sehlteus had already engaged and I was locked out. Still a good time had by all.

By incorporating time attack records (that DON'T disappear when the servers reset) and TWEWY-like adjustable challenge levels to droprates for loot-oriented content, you can give players the option for challenge where they want it, and easymode when they don't.

I'm up for caps is like the orbs, we had caps @ 30, 40 and so on, there are instance like the one they going to implement the only difference is that in FFXI is one boss and in FFXIV is a horde with a boss. Good gear is meant for the ppl that work for it not to be handed over.

you didn't need a static to beat it. I had a static on one character and on my other i didn't, actually i beat cop faster on the one without static. You need to organize more perhaps but ... its 6 people, its not that much. Thats what an mmo should be about. - at least the main direction - its so sad that the market starts to de-socialize the mmos more and more.
A lot of the current mmos out there feel like single player rpgs without proper content... and you get the reminder that other people play it looking at the crappy global chat where one brain fart meets the other....

Mmo communities needing each other also tend to be much more helpful, friendly etc. etc. then if you can solo/duo most of your way. Thats a fact.

At any rate, my original point remains - just because you like it one way does not mean everyone should be forced to do it that way. My suggested solution, along with matching achievements, allows you to get your sense of accomplishment while allowing others to make progress without frustration.

Maybe im a minority but when it comes to achievements or trying to beat other players time's i couldnt care less. Ultimately there will always be some group who will have found a way to hit the shortest amount of time possible to win said content before you've even begun it. Real incentives/accomplishments are rewards that give you an edge. For example in promies the big reward for that (besides unlocking new areas) were the rings that couldnt easily be matched by any other rings. I think that denying players the rings/best reward at the end if they havent completed the content under cap would be a much more effective incentive, that way the players who just want to fly through can play through the story without being hindered by difficulty. But only those who stepped up to that difficulty get that extra reward.

I would be willing to compromise that way if people are so bent on getting the easy way out of things. Give them the story but the unique rewards for completion with a cap.

1. In my suggestion, the time trials would be tiered for the "suggested level" and then beyond, so you could compete for best completion time at your capped level, as well as have fun seeing how quickly you can blow it away 20 levels higher.

2. Don't forget that the end of COP was effectively capped for the better part of a few years. You're saying that people who steamrolled Promyvion and Diabolos but did Tenzen/Promathia at the same level as everyone else don't deserve rings?

I understand better you time trial now, while they could be ok to have, they in no mean promote to do the fights at the desgined level.

Not sure I get your question, but if you are asking me if the people who facerolled through CoP after they removed the cap so for exemple did the promies at level 90 instead of 30 for the 1st ones and 50 for the vzhal (sp? lol) and diabolos at 90 while it was designed for level 60 if I remember, and finished the last fight of the story at again 90 when it was designed for level 75 (or lower?) Then yes, imo, they do not deserve the ring at the end. Unlocking the story areas and seeing the story is well enough for those people while the ones that did it at capped levels, came up with strategies to beat those fights and persevered and triumphed, they deserve the reward at the end as a proof of hardship. Clearly they deserve it more from where I stand. And please don't think me as an elitist jerk because I am not, I would say the same thing if I was on the other side and went through those missions when there was no challenge involved.

theres only one real reason to not want caps on missions, it's straight up lazyness. second reason that you added is that you have people you love and want to just do them with her or rather when you forced to do it again you rather it be on easy mode. these dont seem fitting for a good reason not to want to have caps, saying we can't force players to have to play the game the way it is intented? that is bs i'm sorry it is how the game was intented and now they slowly remove the way it was and should be so people can steam roll from the get go.

taking out caps near the end of a games life is one thing, it can be hard to get players if you waited years to do it instead of doing them with everyone in the server was doing them, when every expansion is out it takes almost no time to put a full group together even without a static. i did do cop with static, that was an amazing and badass story line, no caps takes that away, with caps you can turn everything in the game that memorable.

like perrin said, no, you don't deserver the end reward for facerolling anything in this game. that is just a joke, ask se to open a gil shop with same items but have them a different color so it reads i didn't do shit for it instead and it will be the same thing. having caps for rewards and progression is fair, and having maybe a way to steam roll it for fun and friends and storyline should be separate. running around sea for first time after completing those missions was a joyouse occasion that comes from a well deserved long run to get there.

personally i think lot of players dont' want anything to do with ffxi style game play, they want to steam roll to max, then all they got to do is log in 2times a week for 3-4hours for someone to tell them what to do for endgame then log out feeling accomplished as a gamer. do the gaming world a favor and buy a already done account then and keep real gaming in our mmo's. cause right now ffxiv is a joke for content, but worse off the little we have is a clue to how bad and easy it is gonna be cause for some reason theres way too many of you that like this game style of paying to pretend to be gaming.

time trials are not a good replacement for challenging content, in ffxi even though they reset after maintence so they totally removed meaning from it, the winners are just some group of blm's or something. if you'r complaining about people for groups then u'd agree time trials where u just need 5 of the best class is just even worse of an idea. plus most people don't like repeating things unless theres a great reward for it, the mini expansions in ffxi started something nice, they gave more reason to repeat them for more reward, that would make people who done them do them more, thus caps with multiple rewards = always having people that are willing to come join in on them. they can set up layers of missions first 2or 3 then next 2 or 3, all giving something usable and not fixable for ffxiv that everyone wants and they will have just fixed any issues with new players not having people to do them with.

also i'd like to add that i'm surprised this thread isn't packed with players and there opinions, this has got to be one of the most important parts of the game next to the battle system. more people need to give there opinions on it and if they are for or nay for caps, b4 it is too late and instead you'll be running to a diff game to play.
