Well, considering the gear is called -crystarium- gear, I don't think it's really coming from Eulmore. Just saying :P

But the simple reality between the quality difference is that the mogstation team is separate from the main dev team. Think about it. Every 3.5-4 months, the main dev modelers have to create hundreds of 3D models for unique gear, and create new textures/color mappings for anything they re-skin. Not to mention all the enemy models for raids, instances, etc that are unique. Taking a look at the eorzea database, they added in several hundred items in patch 5.2 alone (Crystarium, Edenchoir, Neo-Ishgardian, Ruby Weapons, Dalmascan draped set, Corsages for head, Craftsman's apron set, Re-textured gear for Anamesis list goes on, even before counting monster/arena/etc models)

Compare that to the mogstation team, who have barely any workload compared to it. Who knows what their deadlines are, but given the sparsity of their unique additions, I doubt they're anywhere as strict as the main dev team's. So its no surprise their stuff is higher quality; not only do they get more time to work on it, but they aren't as hard pressed as the main dev team is, considering they're having to make hundreds of less models than the main dev team does. I can almost guarantee you that it's not that "they know exactly what they're doing by putting more flamboyant stuff up on the mog and giving us boring outfits." It's simple dev workloads vs time constraints in action. Of course the team that gets to spend literal months painstakingly working on a small number of items will churn out much flashier and well built stuff than a team that has to create 3-4 tiers of ilvl worth of sets for every role (Fending/Healing/Casting/Striking/Maiming/Aiming/Scouting), each with unique models in a very short timespan.

I want to buy this as gift for my friend and I do not understand this salt at all :)
Our mogstation money goes back to FFXIV, right? And not to pay other SE projects I could not care less.

I don't feel forced. In fact, I haven't bought a single thing on the Mogstation since July.

What people realize is these items would not exist if there was no Mogstation. So they're okay spending a little extra, occasionally. If you find it too expensive, then don't buy it. Our sub fees go towards the patch cycles and continued access to the game itself. That doesn't mean every little thing they add will be included.

Put simply, you just have to accept micro-transactions aren't going away in video games. The development costs have sky rocketed while retail value remains $40-60. At least some of those costs will be put on the customer. Capcom's CEO wanted to double the retail cost of games several years ago. Frankly, I prefer micro-transactions because I can opt out of those.

Maybe. But still, sometimes it's better that something doesn't exist. After I started the game I saw someone riding a Carbuncle. I was playing Summoner as my main job back in the day, so I thought "Hey, that would be a great mount for me" and I asked them were I can get it. And then they told me. After I bought the game with the expension and was already paying my sub, hearing that I can't even get this mount - no matter how much I play or how good I get at it - until I pay another ~17 € for it was a massive bummer. A wasn't expecting that from a Non-F2P game, not after I already had paid like over 50 € for it.

And now imagine taking it to the extreme, standing in a place where all this people gather with their glamour and their mounts. You are new and you are talking to them "Hey, I like your outfit" "Thanks, you can buy it at the mog station"; "Hey, I haven't seen this hairstyle on character creation" "Well, you can buy it at the mog station." "What about.." "MOG STATION!".

Now would you keep playing this p2p-game after it just turned into an advertising plattform for the in-game-item-shop, right after you bought it and paid your sub? I'm not sure I would.

This may be my dementia kicking in but I seem to recall, in the olden days, there being cool looking gear and mounts that you could indeed get for free as part of your sub and expac purchase. Whats really funny is now these things cost more than the damn sub. But alas we are in the age of microtransactions and it's not changing anytime soon.

I'm less disappointed it ends at the mogstation than it's not a Titania-like looking dress. At least I will save money :p

I get tired of these stupid threads. It's like people don't understand the purpose of microtransactions. Your sub allows you a pass to play the game. It doesn't entitle you to anything else. If they want to sell something and those with a little extra cash want to buy it, then there's no harm. Stop being up in arms about Mog Station. It's not going away. It's not predatory. It's not forcing you into anything. There's no benefit to buying anything from it other than getting a neat looking thing. Just stop the damn whining.

So I sort of get why some people might be all against this Mog Station cash shop thing. I come from an age where there were virtually no F2P MMOs. They were all sub-based and everything you wanted was obtainable in game somehow. (Some took a lot of effort, so in no way did I feel like I could get said [item] for free.)

Sure these items in the Mog Station are optional. You are, in no point, held at gunpoint and being told that you have to purchase them for USD 18 or else. I do wish, however, that they did not come with such an expensive price tag. Many of these full sets are 18 bucks, which is more than the price of a monthly sub. I guess I wouldn't even have a slight gripe with it if these glamour sets were account-wide instead of per character.

Anyway, I kinda get why there's a huge gripe with it. I even get why they'd think SE is quote/unquote double dipping. But that seems a bit out of reach. If they did help us get more servers/DCs for NA and EU, then I can rest easier knowing my money is going somewhere. (Gods only know how much I've spent on skips and sets on the Mog Station.)

Exactly... exactly this. At this point, their sense of entitlement and whinging is beyond irritating.

If you don't like a company's business practices, make certain you're heaping a good portion of blame on yourself if you're continuing to do business with that company thereby supporting their business practices.

Square Enix isn't a charity. They're a for-profit business. There are shareholders to be paid for investing in the company, expenses and salaries to be paid, loans to be repaid, etc.

They're out to serve their customers. Do you know why cash shops exist? It's because players tell game companies "I wish your game had this, I'd pay extra to get it" and so the companies try to give those players what they're asking for. They create extras that cost an extra fee because players told them they want it.

There are thousands of items in this game that you're able to obtain through game play. Satisfy yourselves with those items if you don't want to pay to get the items specifically created for the players who said they were willing to pay more and that in turn allow game companies to maintain relatively stable game and subscription prices instead of increasing those things every year when they have to give their employees raises, pay increased insurance costs and lease fees, invest in new technologies to improve their games, etc.

You're welcome to start up your own game companies if you think it can be done better.

If a cash shop bugs you this much, find a different game company that does things the way you like it and play their games instead.

Did you know that there are still lots of cool looking and mounts that you can get for free as part of your sub by playing the game?

You should look into those.

By the way, I also remember the old days when all the cool stuff was part of a subscription but there was also very little of it and you had no other options. These days you get a lot more for you subscription even if you choose to ignore what's provided because you're too upset over a couple of items sold for an additional fee.

I mean, I sortof understand why some people might think it's a bit much since we're paying for the subs and whatnot, but I really don't mind the Mogstation. If I want something, I'll buy it, if not, then I won't.

Hmm. In fact I am very happy with how Mogstation is. Anyone who has played p2w type of games knows that is basically their subscription fee: the real money you gotta put to their cash shop. But! There you are competing against people who dump thousands of dollars into the damn game per month. You are supposed to feel the difference in 10 dollars put into p2w game and 1000.
In FFXIV, in comparison, you only feel the sting of jealousy or awe, when someone has nicer glam. I am fine with that, as someone who used to be pretty invested in p2w game. As long as those glams are not killing me in overworld with 1 hit and making me lose the whole exp tally of the day, I am fine. Of course, FFXIV does not work like that and thank the effin god for that, but that is exactly how many other games work.

Mogstation sells you aesthetics. You can absolutely enjoy this game without the bells and whistles from mogstation. Most of the mogstation stuff is too gaudy for my tastes, but I am still happy that they exist because they are not too gaudy for everyone. And in between gaudy things there is stuff I think is super cool. And when I have some extra, I might be buying some of that in future. This month my extra went to spoil my bff, because I went and bought this pixie dress for her, inspired by this thread. I think the dress is something she would enjoy wearing in game :)

Good chunk of mogstation items, the event stuff, was free once. You know you should farm the event stuff you want when the event is going on - but SE is not keeping you from buying the stuff later, if you started playing later or if you lost the stuff on the way. And like, that is preferable to not ever having access to those items ever again. I do not even know where I am going with this post.

Just, keep everything in perspective, everyone. I am sorry if you won't be able to get this dress right away, and that makes you feel bad. But nothing in Mogtation is outrageously expensive. I heard saving works for those kind of purchases very well.

event items in mogstation : in many F2P and P2W event items are seasonal and come back every year.
housing items in mogstation : you can lose housing and items can be stolen if placed in FC house (and housing items are concerned by the event matter).

I don't remember any annoying pop-up advertisement in the game that screams "BUY ME!" that shows up once I log in and can't be removed unless the item it bought. Sooooo, no, the game doesn't force me to buy it. It is sometimes annoying that some items are Mog Station only (...though, to be honest, it's more because I'm a Russian with 400$ payment so it's just damn expensive for me than because it's a mog station item), but the game in no way forces me to buy items in Mog Station. It's a glamour, totally optional one, that doesn't give any advantages and not having it doesn't ruin my gameplay.

Also, if anything, them stopping adding items in Mog will worry me more than having them doing it, because it will signalize the very possible rise of the subscription fee to compensate the loss of income and keep up with expenses (that only rise with time going), which I totally don't want to happen. My sub is still 13 euro as it was in 2013. If I have Mog Station and its customers (including myself occasionally) to thank for that - so be it, as long it's not a P2W shop, which is not the case.

It is not P2W. P2W gives advantage in PVP content or provides a pretty unfair advantage to make money ingame. Even considering retainers, FFXIV is hopefully far from that. You probably haven't play P2W games to not see the difference. Go try ArcheAge, Aion, BDO, you will see how P2W works and it's mainly a PVP matter (buffs, food, access to some content, some kind of "allowed RMT" with reselling shop content IG etc.)

The dalmascan set is one of the best looking glamour sets they've added into the game....on females. It's pretty disingenuous to post the set on a male character when it's plain as day that a lot of glamours look atrocious on them, including that one. The top especially looks gorgeous and goes with a ton of great glamours. To each their own I guess.

I dare say that there are still cool looking gear and mounts that you can get in game for "free" - the mogstation took nothing away from us, its adding things that would not exist otherwise.

We're not getting less glamour-options or mounts/minions - we're most likely getting more, compared to ARR. I havent done the exact math and are most likely forgetting things, but 5.2 should have brought us at least these glamour options and mounts - in the game, "free" for all:

Gear (I'm counting all gear that has a new look)
- Crafted ilvl480
- Crystarium set
- Edenchoir set
- one new glamour outfit (this wrapped skirt and top - forgot the name)
- Relic and Ruby (weapons only)
(- Dyeable AF)
Edit: I forgot stuff! Namely the apron you can get for skybuilders-scrips and the Kupokupo-outfit from the scratch lottery - I've seen plenty of people wearing the apron and I really like the moogle-inspired set myself

Mounts
- Shark
- Ruby Gwibber
- Great Vessel of Ronka
- Ramuh
- Sheep
- Petranodon (...locked behind an almost insane achievement, but hey its free ingame!)
- Edit: forgot the Dhamel

**Disclaimer: I might be forgetting stuff - but I hope my point is clear: This are way more mount and glamour options than ARR used to have. Wether you consider some of those options "cool" or not is enterily subjective anyways**

To the incessant Whingers:

Yoshi has been a Director and Executive Officer on the Board of Directors for Square Enix (official source link) for over two years now-- (in addition to being the Head of Business Unit III). He has to make regular reports to the Board, stakeholders, shareholders, marketing divisions, operating personnel, technology innovators, and a bevy of global partners while also getting his team to remain highly creative and engaged. He's a solid leader and this is one of the reasons why you've heard a few times that the Dev creative team spend their own free time enhancing various elements within the game. These are people that are already working long strenuous hours and yet they go the extra mile --within their own free time-- to deliver creativity to the players.

Nobody does that unless they are fully engaged with their leader's vision, are decently paid, and have a deep passion to proudly deliver quality creative work to the fan base-- and THAT's what I respect the most and THAT's what keeps me buying on the Mog Station.

I've played this game since when there were no mounts or chocobos and almost everything (gear and weapons) was just in grey, brown, and green colours-- true story, go look it up. Nowadays, I'm still quite amazed at the quality of spiffy stuff that now comes with your subscription-- and now it's just a matter of understanding your wants and needs for those items.

Therein lies the fundamental concept of personal choice.

As Jojoya said above, there is a vast array of other free items within the game that don't require purchase from the Mog Station-- literally thousands-- and if those don't satisfy you, either find a different MMO that does things the way you want or proceed with starting up your own gaming enterprise. Don't keep prattling on and on with a sense of entitlement just because you are reluctant to pay extra for a shiney new item-- if you want something, then go get the means to obtain it.

We can argue about the first point, but in regards to the second... as much as I personally dislike the jump potions: You got tanks who didnt knwo how to tank and healers who had no clue how to play and dps not knowing their rotation all the time, even before jump potions. They leveled through FATEs or got carried through dungeons - I'm meeting enough people who didnt bought jump potions but are 100% clueless.

That's not how P2W works.

- Sellable retainers are annoying, but you still can make the same amount of gil, just longer. They don't give you some mysterious bonus or something.
- The only thing people get from leveling job with a skip book is saving money on sub and time they would potentially spend without it. As much as I don't like skip books, they aren't P2W.

P2W is when you buy an item from the shop and it makes you OP in actual battles, mostly PvP. Nothing from what we have in Mog Station is the case of it.

These are worse for the game than a bunch of cosmetic items, but whenever anyone tries to speak up against jump potions there are people saying it makes no difference to the game. And how many years have we asked for more storage space now? Somehow it takes too many resources to develop but magically appears when I spend my crysta. But optional outfits are the thing that's ruining the game!

IMO the fairy robe is one of the best Mog Station exclusive outfits. Shimmering pastel purple color (this needs to be a dye), a nice pattern, beautiful wings and neutral looking adveturing pants + boots which can be used in many glamours. I spent some time figuring out which weapons would be a good match and ended up with Fae Grimoire, Elfin Bow, Aymur Anemos, Vanargand Anemos and Omnilex Zenith.

It makes no difference to the game because stupid people who didn't know how to play their jobs were a thing before jump potions. So yeah, it literally made no difference.

So having more inventory slots and thus being abble to stock more crafting materials is not a bonus ?
Especially in a game that throw on us bazillion's more of them while asking you to still use previous compos for brand new crafts ?

Guess what paid for the data center move and the newer servers was sure Hell not our sub money. SE short changes this game harder then penny pincher tipping a Waitress..

Not a P2W one, no. Managing space with just 2 retainers, especially when you know you can have more, IS harder, but it's not impossible. While in case with P2W the game is, very often, basically unblayable without shop spendings. And that's not how it is here.

People buying the jump potion don't really "pay to win" since they don't even know how to play in the first place. No matter the stuff you have, if you can't play your job right, you ain't winning in my book.

Also, having played a lot of cheap korean P2W, I can tell you that Mogstation isn't P2W in my eyes.
Sure there are some advantages to having multiple retainers, but you don't just go buying 100 tokens of something on the Mogstation in order to get easy access to a ilvl500 armor for 50 bucks.
Now that would be P2W right there.

The only thing I do agree on is the event items being put on there instead of being available the next year in the same said event. But oh well.

My own thoughts on the outfit (perennial Mog Station debate aside) is that the robe is pretty and I like the gradient effect on it, but the wings limit the usefulness and it's also something you can't do much with besides wear it as-is.

The circlet and boots are really nice and unique though - enough to make me tempted to get it, but probably not enough to actually justify purchasing it. For now, at least...

You're assuming that it's intended to be Titania's outfit and not just generic elven robes. I don't see any signs that this was the intent - it's not even the same colour scheme as either the original or reborn Titania.

"Fairy hippie priest" is prettymuch what I expect and want from an elven glamour. Look at the costume designs in Lord of the Rings and such.

The dye only affects the upper portion of the robe and the wings, while the purple sections on the hems are permanent.

Quite a few glamours have been posted on Eorzea Collection already, some with dyes, so you can get an idea of how it looks in different colours.

(It looks like you can put long-sleeved gloves over the robe sleeves, so at least there's some degree of customisation there.)

Agreed on wings ruining it for me, and on the angel and demon outfits too. It would be great if they came with a non-winged variant of the coat - the demon robe dyed white actually makes a really nice elegant WHM white-with-red-accents outfit.

There's no real reason for it to not work. Viera miss out on headgear when it involves covering up the hair, but they get all other circlets and similar pieces that sit over the hair without affecting it.

A few people already answered, but to clarify - the annual sale coincides with the Rising in-game festival that marks the anniversary of the game, which happens around August-September following the Moonfire Faire.

Remember the primal gearsets from hw? Those had themes for each role that looked unique. Now everything is sloppy fabrics that look boring and similar on everyone.

I am 80% convinced that they know exactly what they're doing by putting more flamboyant stuff up on the mog and giving us boring outfits. Even the raid gear looks kinda meh in my opinion this tier. I would not expect anything like that at all anymore because it's just going to go up on the mog while we get recolours, rags or basic armor.

You keep calling the new outfits "rags" and saying they're draped on, but the Mheg Deaca robe is entirely draped and the Crystarium robe is a lot more tailored, even if it's not as tight-fitting as the Hailstorm gear.

I also don't see how releasing "bad new gear" is going to drive anyone to Mog Station for lack of in-game options. If you still prefer the Lv60 primal gear or the Dreadwyrm gear, glamour it. Be unique. The overall range of in-game glamour available to you has not been reduced (with the regrettable exception of the Garo gear), and you are free to continue using whatever appeals to you.

In any case, even if you overlook older gear, or if we were somehow restricted to only using recently released gear, there has been quite a range of outfit styles added to the game of late. Everyone went mad over the very tailored NieR outfits for weeks. The PVP gear certainly has a unique theme (and is very definitely not draped rags). Some of the Edengrace sets are beautiful - I really love the casting robe. (People love to hate the healing/striking robe but I think they just messed up an otherwise nice dress by putting the feathers on the front.) And the Neo-Ishgardian sets are fantastic.

Draped fabric isn't an inherently terrible thing, or nobody would be here complaining about the new robe in the first place besides maybe on principle.

It also may just about how they set up colours to apply to the outfit. I think the dyeable parts of the robe take on a softer version of whatever colour you use on it, so you can't truly dye it jet black or other dark colours. A pity, as it would look rather striking on the embroidery and gradient.

I think they just meant that as an example of a recent glamour piece that's been very popular, not that it's at all a similar style to the robe.

The top has been very frequently used over on Eorzea Collection - and with a lot more variety in the overall outfit than the robe allows for.

Well, as you said yourself, that's an "extreme" and unlikely to happen.

For every "it's from Mog Station" there could be "it's from the level 80 dungeon" or "it costs several million gil on the marketboard" which is just as prohibitive to a new player being able to access it any time soon... and on the other hand there are also plenty of nice things that are far more within reach. There are some cheap things on the marketboard, and I would say that Lv15 is the threshold at which you can start accessing some nice sets like the Hall of the Novice gear and also get access to the Gold Saucer for those outfits.

I feel like people overlook anything between Lv1 glamour and things released in the latest patch. This isn't targeted at any one person in this topic, but a trend of posts over time - every time new tome gear is released, people complain about how they don't like the style of it as if they're forced to visibly wear it. There's so much else available to us, whether it's from dungeons or the marketboard or quests or obscure shops like the Ultima gear vendor in Idyllshire.

The pants look much the same on either gender - but in any case it's the top that's popular, though people are certainly making nice outfits with the pants too. Just a lot less of them.

And it looks perfectly fine on male characters anyway.

Aaand a defense for jump potions arrives like clockwork.

Sure, but that's fine because it is also a goal to work towards it. I still remember when Suzaku was released and I first saw the mount... I was only level 50 that day, still working through the ARR patches on my way to Ishgard, but I instantly knew: I want that mount and one day I will get that mount. And while it sure took a while, I always knew I could get it, I could earn it just by playing the game and getting good at it. And in the end I reached that goal.

And while I still treasure this fire doggo and keep it under "favorites" to ride it sometimes, I never bought that Carbuncle. Because - and even while I actually bought other items from the mog station myself later on - I still associate it with something unpleasend that nearly made me cancelling my subscription, while I associate the Kamuy with only the good memories of a new player working toward my goal and reaching it. And those goals are still the point for me to keep playing. They were the point back then, they were it even for doing Eureka (I only ever did it because of the Ozma mount) and they are also my motivation for raiding.

TL;DR: I don't mind waiting and working toward an item I really want because that's what's motivating me in the first place. But if it ever reachs the point where all the things I want are only sold in the mog station, I would be quitting the game because then I have no goals left in it other then throwing real money at an item-shop.

A veteran player being jealous of some who used a jump potion. Is like Bill Gates being jealous about a homeless person reciveing $1000 dollars instead of him. If are you veteran player then a player who used a jump potion aint got no advantage over you thats worth caring about.

I wouldn't have ever expected to see Titania's dress as equippable gear - it looks very restrictive and I don't think it would be suited to the full range of player motion. Does Titania even move her legs at all, or just float in place?

(It isn't anything to do with it being feminine either, given the deal they made of Titania being the genderless king of the pixies. And talk about characters of either gender having the chance to take up the role.)
