You wanted to know how much diying removes of your dmg, you can just smack a dummy for a while with and without weakness and see how much less you do, you don't need parses to tell you thatm also everyone else already told you that you can actually test rotations with sss.
That said you really don't even need a parser to get a fight done, since fight are scripted you can actually plan already what to do in every moment of a fight

edit: btw you can actually guess if you are right on time with the dps by watching bosses % at precise moments of the fight,
Now don't misunderstand me I'm not saying that parsers are useless, I'm saying that ppl need to understand how to use them and how to not abuse them which I'm afraid I'm not sure the community really is ready for

Simple solution: You find a good static on same level as you and not expecting any carry from anyone. If it's pugs and some of them can't hold the certain % of their own damage, then you kick them. Nobody here is obligated to carry anyone, much as nobody here has the right to do the raid, just because you sub doesn't mean you deserve the golden platter.

In all fairness, MrHappy had a static but they broke up several weeks before Stormblood. That does happen, sometimes you just can't pick up the pieces and find another one that quickly which works with your schedule.

Still, the pug life isn't all that great. Whereas with a full static you can parse all you want with your group, be competitive with each other and what not without the fear of some retaliation anywhere.

Okay... I keep reading people responding to my comments by saying that their static has a dragoon. I meant that players would not want to play one, if parsers were in the game, because they would want to play the jobs which do the highest dps.

Of course, there will always be outliers, like me, why choose to play a job because they like it. However, my experiences with MMO sheeple show a big chunk of players only want to play number one on the parsers. In WoW, that was top spec/top build. IN FFXIV, that would translate to top job/top role picks.

Furthermore, I don't need to be in a top raider to comment on an issue which will affect all levels of play. So, please don't play the "You Must Be This Experienced To Comment" card. It's exclusionary and reflects badly on you.

I'm against parsers. I've explained why. But, I realize that the decision is up to Square Enix and all each of us can do is to offer feedback on the issue.

Well I do apologize if I misunderstood, but this reason is also kind of strange to be honest.

You are making a lot of assumptions here about other players that you cannot possibly know....unless you interviewed everyone somehow?

You can't just generalize and throw everyone into one basket and pretend like you are part of such a small subset of players who actually plays a job because they like it. Most of the people I know on FFXIV play the job they like to play and I know quite a handful of people...so if this really was such an outlier I feel like I should have seen more people playing a job simply because its numbers were high. Either way neither of us can say one way or the other because we have no evidence beyond our own experiences.

Also parsers technically already exist (for PC users anyway)...yet I see lots of statics with DRG in them and also lots of people still playing DRG.

Finally, why does it affect you if someone else decides to play a job due to numbers? I mean...they aren't you and they made a choice for themselves. How others choose what job they will play is sort of not anyone elses business. Everyone can choose a job for whatever reasons they want to whether it be because they like how it plays, because its DPS is high, because they simply like the gear designs that job gets, or heck maybe I play RDM simply because I like to fly backwards with Displacement and no other reason whatsoever...I mean who knows?

Everyone is different and we all make our own choices however we wish. Just because not everyone might choose a job for themselves the exact same way you do doesn't mean they are just sheeple or somehow doing something wrong...they have their own opinions and they can play whatever job they want for whatever reasons they want. If high numbers is fun to them then it is fun to them...not everyone has fun the same way as everyone else.

This is why it is fine if you are against parsers, you don't think they are fun and that is your opinion no problem. My responses to you are mostly due to the assumptions and generalizations you have been making. It just doesn't explain your reasoning very well since you are making claims that you don't have any facts to back up and it just uses a large paint brush on everyone that isn't you. You have to try to think outside yourself to how others may think differently than you.

A parser, while nice, is not necessary to working out a good enough rotation to tackle any content in this game. If any player needs a parser to do good DPS / HPS, the problem lies with the player.

I'm not anti-parser by any stretch (played many games and seen their value) but I don't miss the DPS linkers who thinks every problem can be solved with more DPS. Makes for a more enjoyable social experience than anything.

This whole discussion is moot, anyway. No parser is coming, ever.

anyways I am interested in the main question. Why does SE have these DPS checks, but no parsers? They are basically suggesting you need to know your rotations, and know how to maximize or don't clear.

^ that makes no sense, that is the point of the comment. Also lets assume there is some truth to this, people can use such tools like this to learn and start to do .. whatever.. without the crutch tool. In other words, no matter how you look at this quote, it does not make sense and is wrong.

Let me put this in a different way, ,you are pretty much saying "you are not ready to do said content because you never did it before so you do not know the fight" there is specific ways you can adjust rotations to squeeze in things between phases, it is different then beating a dummy, bosses have invulnerable stages so it skews rotation theory a bit.

This goes back to the original statement, that people seem have trouble answering. If SE is going to give strict rotations and have dps checks, why are parsers not allowed on an official stance? Stawmaning like this post makes no sense and does not help answer the original statement.

I do not know how to answer it, and curious to know why the official stance is you can't use parsers with all the dps checks that exist, it the concepts are contradicting. The way you feel about parsers has nothing to do with that question. Now do you understand why people are questioning how you posted?

My experience with parsers being a good thing is incredibly limited to the point of being an anecdote of an anecdote. My experience with parsers being a bad thing is considerably more, especially during the brief time I was playing WoW.

Implementing parsers here in theory would help people learn DPS better. 9 times out of 10 however its going to be used for excluding others from even warm up end game content, its going to be used for belligerence and harassment of others. It would also drive the community even more towards the competitive toxic mindset that currently infested every other MMO out there with parsers.

Heres the thing these people who are going to harass people over their dps or performance already do so. The only thing that will change is instead of a put down being you suck ass at this game it will be you suck ass at this game for doing low dps or (generic dps number here). I have a paladin in my static who had no idea his damage was super below what it should be because he had 0 feed back from the game its self on what he was doing wrong. I helped him with his rotation showed him a parser and he literally does triple the dps he did before. Parsers aren't going to change how people behave at all it's just a tool.

TLDR: the people who already harass people over dps run parsers now. The only difference will be that people will use a # tacked to their you suck as opposed to their just you suck insult they use now.

But you cant take one experience over the other and say that one is a fact or even saying that this means 9 out of 10 would be horrible. We simply dont know because FF14 does not have an official parser and all the experiences in other MMOs might be hints how it could be going but it could also go completely in the opposite way.

I knew someone that parsed but they never mentioned it in any dungeons or other stuff. They did complain about this to me and it was shocking how bad people can be but it was never used to harass those. Maybe that person was the 1 out of 10 but I cant believe that. I for example would never use a parser that way. I am fine with clearing dungeons and normal instances even with bad DDs/tanks/healers and I would only ever say something politely if we cant clear it or if someone is not even doing much. (Which can be seen even without a parser) But if you go in recent ex primals or into savage content you should be ready to bring at least a certain minimum amount of DPS with you and if you dont then why should people carry that person?

SE simply could give us a better report system if someone truly is using this for pure harassment thus those people would be punished quite fast.

Just a suggestion if you personally are not doing it already. Use your FC or group of friends if you don't want to take the chance of having a under performing player in the group. Also, keep in mind, everyone has their off day's. Judging someone from a single run is not doing justice for anyone. If they are consistently under performing, then yes, they need to pull their weight or gtfo.

In a nine minute raid-fight:

When you die multiple times in a hectic fight, you can easily be down for a minute or so in total. Sixty seconds on a nine minute fight. Not only your dps is now lacking, also that from the (other) healer.

On the minutes which are left for you to actually DPS properly, you will suffer a big penalty.
A severe penalty if you die more than once quickly.

And this is just one person messing up badly. Two people messing up slightly will have the exact same effect.
You are going to enrage.

Enrage is not about your silly / tiny / lucky differences in parse results.
Enrage is not about seeing silly / tiny / lucky class-based dps differences.
Enrage is not about parse results, it is about dying too much.

I find the use of a parser very helpful when running Savage and to an extent, Extreme Primals. It's a fantastic tool for self improvement, using fflogs to track your progress is also a nice confidence boost when you're doing well.

There are people out there who misuse parsers and bully people using ingame chat because of it. I've known people who have been banned for doing this and I think it's fair punishment. However, I think it's also a good way to open some players eyes to how poor their performance actually is (not necessarily their own fault, the game doesn't do the best job of teaching you optimal dps performance) and may encourage them to improve.

You will always have players who bully other players, parsers or not and whilst I don't doubt having them added may make this problem slightly more common, I think the benefits of having it outweigh the negatives. Ideally just make the parser work in Extreme and Savage content as that's the only place it's truly necessary.

In regards to enrage, I don't actually look at my numbers till after the fight because for the most part you can already feel when the fight is a loss before you even get to enrage but I think people being able to see their performance would push them to try and do better each time, which really is never a bad thing.

I think the keyword here is, player professionalism. This reminds me a lot when I had to manage world raid slaying group on another game.
There are people who -will- tag for few damage to get same loot as everyone. Our group enforced those rules and kicked them out when we see damage like that.

Similar situation here. Even if the game displays dps output like other games, it doesn't guarantee anyone will be better, team player, or care.
Most will want to learn but won't in a day. Statics who have these rules should enforce those rules themselves, before recruiting.
It's not everyone's job to be game police, it's the static leader's. Pugging, or in public, no one have the right to police others.

Clearly you did not read my original post or any other peoples post before commenting. I never asked SE for a parser I asked for a results list like we currently have in our pvp system, an enrage timer, and actual boss health by numbers not just percentage. Those three things I havent a clue how anyone could argue against, tell me in what way would having the bosses actual real number figure hp would be toxic instead of just a raw percentage.

Also what would be wrong with an enrage timer cause many times if four people die people are screaming healer lb and Ive never seen the healer lb ever save a run its a total waste outside 24 mans. And lastly what I mention was something like in the pvp system why is it ok for SE to plaster everyones contribution there but yet in pve we get nothing. I dont even have to have damage per second if they just replicated whats already in pvp and just purely gave damage done to boss, if your dps is doing worse than a healer or a tank why wouldnt that dps want to know this?

So no Im not asking for act althought I think its amazing, Im askin for things much more simple because I know SE will never allow a parser. But if you gona have the system in pvp , then why not in pve something that way more people use. And also other people have said they have hit enrage with no deaths simply because not enough damage, if you have all dps doing just 1000 dps you not clearing anything in sb wit these enrage timers regaurdless of death.

Please stop generalizing. There are plenty of people who play the job they play because they love the job, not just these "outliers" and not because it's number one on the DPS charts. I play BRD because I love the job. I started this game on BRD; I've tried switching mains a few times, but I always come back to BRD. Something about the job has me hooked, and it's certainly not being Number One DPS or Big D Numbers. BRD will never pull the kind of numbers SAM or RDM pull (if you put equally skilled and competent players next to each other), but that doesn't have me switching to SAM or RDM.

This holds true for a lot of people. If people played because they enjoy Big D numbers, you would see a lot more (competent) Samurai, and a lot less of other "lesser" jobs. And that's not the case. A glance at any progression thread or FFLogs would tell you that.

Parsers don't change the job people prefer to play. Saying they do is just a huge (and incredibly incorrect) generalization that you can't back up with any factual data or numbers.

But seriously welcome to the anti HUD club I need more members. For the similar reasons we don't need parsers we don't need:

A minimap
An aggro list (you can tell when something isn't hitting you just fine without that silly list)
Health bars (you can tell when people get hit just fine without it, and easily enough if someone dies)
Boss HP bar (When the boss dies it dies who needs an HP bar?)
Hotbars/crossbars (you should really memorize your key presses anyway)

Bring me the group that is this because I've never seen it. but to play along then they aren't doing their rotation right simple as that. that is a go look at a guide problem not break out the parser problem. Back to reality this is rare no group is able to do mechanics flawlessly and not know how to play their roles

rotations can be mathed out parsing is to see if those numbers are confirmed or not, as for bosses there are many variances to why you reach enrage timer without death and in that case logs are much better than parsing, but it goes to say that if you are on that level you don't need a parser to see that something is wrong and you need to research something that is not working. It's not just a dps problem can be also an uptime problem, can be a strat problem, dps is factured by many things

This thread isn't about parse results. It is about the fact that having hard DPS checks and simultaneously decrying the use of parsers is silly.

If, in a given fight, each DPS is expected to pull 4k or more, for instance, it is useful to see who is and is not doing that. I don't get how there is an argument there.

That being said, I feel like it is sort of a non-issue so long as you are playing on PC. So long as you don't harass people with their DPS numbers, you are very unlikely to get into any kind of trouble for parsing. It just sucks for the PS4 players who take the game seriously and would like to see exactly how well (or poorly) they are doing.

Is everyone who is anti-parser so afraid of being called out for doing poorly? It's not a big deal. Very few people give a flying flip about your sub optimal expert roulette rotation.

Is there a video of the fight? a single person can cause enrage by doing mechanics.
Leaderboards are about individual, not party performance. It will be clear if it's a bug or needed feature.

I never said anything about intentionally under performing.

I suspect there are many people who think they are doing well, but really aren't.

When I first got to 60 on my bard back in 2.0, I thought I was playing the job fine. After having had my numbers parsed, however, it quickly became apparent that I was doing pretty poorly. There was nothing intentional about my being bad, it was purely ignorance. When I came to the realization that I didn't want to be a raging trash lord, however, I decided to learn and optimize.

Moreover, I don't think parsing is mandatory. I just think they are a useful tool, particularly in an environment where DPS checks are frequent. People should be allowed to chose to use them or not for their own personal benefit.

Mechanics and DPS aren't mutually exclusive. Look at OS3, for instance - it demands a relatively high amount of damage from each player, but is also pretty mechanics-heavy. The job of a DPS is to push out as much damage as possible while doing mechanics correctly - I'm not sure what your point is.

You are missing the point! If we can't have parsers (this is fine, I do not care either way, I do think parsers will add to toxicity in random DFs but this is not the topic of that nor for my personal feelings on parsers) But the thing is, if they are not going to allow parsers while having a stance you shouldn't harass people for playing poorly or not knowing how to play (again fine) then DPS checks, as in, you do not do enough dps the game makes you wipe, should not be a thing. Like for example when niddy was new, it was a >MSQ!!< trial that had a hard to pass DPS check for people to pass on release(In the eyes to a causal anyway, I had a vote abandon pass because people did not want to speak up to the underperforming BLM in our group, or they simply did not know it was the cause of one person). So you can't be putting hard to meet DPS checks in causal content if your not going to allow parsers.

Put it simply:
Get rid of DPS checks (and event triggers based on DPS, I am sick in tried of dying to ifirt/levi because people do not understand you need to stop hitting buttons. Shocked I still can't heal though hellfirespam that is triggered by skipping the final nails and wiping 5%-2% )

Having hard DPS checks and take a stance of no parser makes no sense. < so why does SE do this? That is the point of the thread, not how you feel about parsers.

If they were to implement they can make it so anything in the DF is personal parser only so no harassment there and in the PF make it similar to loot master that you can know if the group parse is turned on or not and you can make the choice to join that party or not.

And thats what I put in my thread, SE is contradicting themselves, why would you have all 72 damage in pvp on ice and on other players. But yet in pvp we get nothing, but at the same time have 10 and 9 minute enrages, making things like tank lb, healer lb3 useless, hec dps limit break is almost useless to does like 3 percent damage if that. So I just dont understand how in an even more competitive environment such as pvp everyone's ok with plastering damage from everyone but in pvp we cant have something similar this makes zero sense to me at all.

I agree with this issue.
But this is not a problem with adding a parser.
This is a problem with adding a parser in the wrong way.

A DPS-only parser gives the impression of things being DPS-focused and it can destroy a community by providing a lopsided view of what's required to be a good player.

A DPS-only parser would be terrible in FF14 simply because DPS doesn't tell the whole story about being a good player. It just shows if you can skew one facet of the game to lean more your way for a certain fight. Exceptionally high DPS in a fight only shows you relied on your other party members to do mechanics or to heal you through what you should have spent time on dodging.

So, what's the good way?
Well, what makes a good player?

A good player (in no particular order):
-Manages their DPS (more, more, more!)
-Manages agro (either enough as a tank or not-too-much as a non-tank)
-Manages their health (either by healing or dodging avoidable AoE)
-Manages mechanics (helping the group clear)

Therefore, a good way to do parsing would be to have a metric for each of these important aspects.

Having "just a DPS parser" is as good as having "just an agro parser."
Both provide useful aspects on their own, but both are laughable as some sort of evaluation for "how you are as a whole player." This only sows confusion into the community. The kind of confusion that breeds negativity.

So, show people how they can actually be "good players."
Give us a good parser.
Show us what we all want to know.

Example of a good parser:
-provide an understandable DPS metric
AND -provide an agro metric
AND -provide a healing metric
AND -provide a damage taken metric
AND -provide a mechanics-followed metric

If you do all of this, then you can do "a parser" in the right way and add a great level of benefit to the entire community.

No one can say "your DPS is low" if right beside that value it shows you did all the mechanics in the dungeon and no one else did any. Without you, everyone else would have 0 DPS.

No one can say "learn to heal" when the metric shows they stood in the last 5 avoidable AoEs.

Worried about trolling?
Easy fix to that.
Keep the same regulations about reporting players who use numbers to abuse others.
Make the metrics non-sharable-in-game (personal parsers). You can even only have them show up after you leave the instance.
Make the metrics available (showable) as an option. The default is off. Players must want to find the setting and turn it on.

There are many, many ways to do a good parser that shows all areas of how a "good player" should be. It would be great to know how we're doing and compare it to the average-last-50-runs of the same instance or something like that.

I fully agree that we should not add "just a DPS parser." But, I really, really, really want a good parser that shows all the aspects of playing this game well.

He is against official parsers and has outlined his reasons why. You can spin it anyway you want but HE doesn't want them in this game.

Relative to the comment about butt sliders... he's actually mentioned in a live letter recently that if people didn't mind the stretch textures they could be an option.
