I can guarantee that. In this case of course I wouldn't call it chasing wins if the purpose in changing GC's is to be able to play alongside a more coordinated and consistent group of people than if you were solo queueing. The downside of course is having your PVP rank start at 0 for the new GC and the thought of that might make you ill. But if it's a good point of reference, I recruited someone from Maelstrom the week before Seal Rock came out, and between then and now she's hit at least rank 27.

I know what you mean about premades, but that's still not a guarantee, unless you can pack all 24 players with people in your team (which I have seen happen. It's not something that can be made with 100% success, because the game optimizes matches based on que times, but I know I've seen a group coordinate a three alliance que using 3rd party chat like TS, mumble, or party chat for Ps4). Having 8 players working together is better than none, though. That's for sure.

Currently, I'm most in favour of the idea of giving exp bonuses based on following objectives. I am NOT in favour of handing out pvp exp for kills. That would cause more problems than it would fix. I'd rather they either 1. offer exp bonuses for fighting in a certain proximity to a node, or 2. Providing exp based on or scaled with the points earned at the end of the match. Winning team would obviously still get the most, but that would just be an incentive to get the team to play better. In either case, there needs to be a reward for playing well.

I think they need to overhaul the wolf's mark system. 1. WM shops should offer more than just pvp gear. Maybe throw a few PvE sets in there, for the sake of variety, and some housing stuff or vanity items, like minions or mounts. 2. Why is there only ONE (two including crafted) pvp set at 180, and nothing between 110-180?? That is ludicrous. PvP players who have yet to cap to 50 are stuck wearing their pve armour until 50. Let us customize to optimize, for crying out loud.

Just about every afternoon/evening there's people from our group forming a party. I'd say afternoon to late evenings North America time, if it's one of the more active PVP windows where we're getting queue times of 15 min or less, we'll typically have 1-2 have parties going, and other times it will be less than 8, since it's more of a network to allow people to find others who are interested in partying up at the same (often ad hoc) time rather than a static where we have a set time and fixed groups. We've never come close to filling a whole alliance at once but it's not uncommon that a couple of groups will form up at slightly different times and finally end up in the same game, which can sometimes mean being able to make a bigger difference in the outcome of the game. And something nice about having this kind of network is not having those games with no healers... I've gotten kind of fed up with rolling as scholar in 100% PUG teams and that brings out the worst in me, but if it's a different matter when queuing with people from our Linkshell, and there are some others who alternate between DPS and healer as the situation requires, though of course many prefer one or the other and that's fine.

If there's not a similar network on your server, I'd recommend starting one. Early on I used the Lodestone rankings as a recruiting tool to see who in the same GC/server was playing a large number of matches, and I'd review the scoreboard at the end of matches to see who was from my server, and if they stood out based on any of the metrics (kill count, damage dealt, HP restored) I'd contact them after the match. And once you have a dozen or so people with some of them looking for people to invite, it should grow on its own.

Now that it says in the battle log what player offs another (based on log settings I suppose) you might have seen me either killing a player, or getting killed by another player. Sometimes I'll also do a wave/point emote at a member of another GC on the periphery if I want the people around me to see they're there and no time to type, but since it says their name vs the role over their head that's only so helpful. I've always been in Adder though, just hit 50 finally and no way I'm going to start over. I've found running with at least a few others to make a match more fun, and even if the alliance doesn't do well, being in a party that plays well can make the difference between having fun and not. And yeah there's not much of a way to guarantee how your whole alliance is going to play, no matter where you are- and suppose every GC had 3 great teams, that means there's still going to be two losing ones. But I've seen every single GC play really badly, and so those who solo queue are more at the mercy of how good/bad the people queueing at the same time are, vs those who can at least bring a reliable group with them. Nothing sucks like fighting against another player where your skills are evenly matched but the have a healer with them and you don't.

I'd be all for getting some cross server coordination going on, having teams queue up at the same time seems like it would have a reasonable chance of getting people in the same alliance. Well the term 'reasonable' hardly applies to pvp queues. A lot of people use TS but being on PS4, interfacing with another device during pvp is a challenge for me, but at least psn does allow people to coordinate without all having to be logged into a TS server that most people wouldn't have an easy way to know when to log onto without any kind of cross server communication.

I'm on a PC, so the best way to contact would be steam, skype or TS (last one being the least reliable since it's going to be the same as our raiding TS)

I like this idea in theory, but I worry that people would stop playing to lead their team to victory, and start playing for their personal EXP gain. We already get people fighting over Tomelith captures to get the achievements, I can only imagine how fierce the in-fighting would get if you added exp to it as well.

I agree. Some of the best matches I've had are ones where my party, or even the alliance, chat was friendly and cooperative. A team that's willing to communicate and work together, even if losing, make for the most competitive matches. To me, PvP is at its best when the teams are competitive and close matched. Winning is so much more satisfying when it was a good fight, and losing isn't quite so bitter when you had a fun team.
I most certainly know what you mean about even match ups. I swear, I hold my breath every que, just praying that there's a healer on my team. Flames are very low on healers. For some reason, I tend to luck out and get stuck on the party that has none. That's devastating, especially for a tank.

It's a concern of mine as well. I think exp bonuses for kills would be fine in Slaughter. It might even revitalize the lobbies for that game mode, but it would cause more problems in objective games like seize than it would solve. Personally, I'm down for a exp bonus in seize for capping nodes, fighting in proximity of nodes, or having your bonus exp scale to, or with, your teams overall end points.

So much this! Increase the amount of Wolf Marks and add more things. I would absolutely love PVP furnishings and minions and what not. If they made it so you can only buy certain things at certain levels, it would (hopefully) increase interest in PVP, since folks could get things throughout the leveling process, instead of needing to PVP for months before they got anything worthwhile.

While I definitely don't think tomestone rewards shouldn't be removed from PVP, it would be good if they were linked to your team's placement like the Wolf Marks and EXP are. When people queue up just to get Law and Esoterics, there's no intensive for them to do well, since they get the same amount of tomestones no matter how well their team does (or how hard they fail). If they only got ~15 Esoterics for getting 3rd place instead of 40, then they might be more willing to try to lead their team to victory.

For now lol. One of the reasons I want them to solve this problem is because Eso bonus will only keep ques short for a brief time. People used to play frontlines for bonuses all the time, and look how that turned out. SE needs to do something, ANYTHING, to maintain interest in PvP and keep it alive, especially because leveling is so slow. My biggest concern right now is that PvP will die, again, before I make it to lvl cap.

Most definitely. Especially when some of the coats make me look like I have an arse the size of Dalamud. I don't like that. I don't like it one bit.

I honestly think that tomes should be based on individual performance, not merely "existing" during the match. This would also encourage alliances to work together as a unit.

Most times, I see that alliances want to defend nodes and let other teams fight. And that's a great strategy when the teams are evenly matched, but I often see one team completely dominate the other and get first place due to kills alone, while we are secure with second place. And I really don't want to be the person to suggest that we sandwich the winning team for obvious reasons.

A lot of people believe that defending and avoiding opposition is the only way to win, and for good reason. It often is. But, sometimes, a push is necessary. But God help you if you suggest going against the accepted strategy.


On a side-note, does anyone think the way PvP is rakned is a bit unfair? There have been many, many instances where, as MCH, I brought a person's health down to nearly nothing while fighting alone, but was bested. And then another party member would finish the job and get the kill count for it, while all I get is a death. I've even had a party member remark on this. I know it doesn't factor into anything currently, but at least give me something for it so that it doesn't look like I was cannon fodder during the entire match. I guess it doesn't really matter, though, unless they eventually figure in personalized PvP ranks.

You're kidding, right? This PvP system is waaaay too fair and keeps up with the vanilla/boring "T-ball league of Life" where everyone is a winner and gets a ribbon at Field Day. i150 sync... I mean... the horror of it all to have a reward people strive for to be better, so they can do more and be better in what it is they spent hours, weeks, months trying to accomplish. Rank perks are a borderline joke. r50s in full materia PvP sets should be able to steamroll someone in same job, with similiar player-skill but are say r18 without the set. The fact they don't allow this is what is unfair. Some people devote their time to PvP, that is their endgame content. Why should PvP'ers endgame rewards suck so much ass compared to PvE'ers? That's not fair.

I actually hope that pvp "dies" only then you can have decent matches, because those that likes to pvp are still doing it even if they dont need/get any extra rewards. Secure pre-light farm was a golden age for twin adders and pvp in general, sure ques took 1h or so but the quality of matches even when solo-queing was just too good to be true. Currently its unenjoyable on all levels that its not even funny anymore, there is bacially a handfull of players that knows what to do and tries to win a match just to see rest will feed your hard earned points to enemies and that leads to demotivation a.k.a manderville dancing in spawn.

I hope you get capped soon tho ^^

In one way, I agree with you, because it's true that dealing with the players that just don't care is extremely frustrating, but... long que times suck, lets face it. I love pvp, but even I stopped playing frontlines because que times were obnoxiously long. It was especially a problem because I'm a tank. My FC (and even a few outsiders) often ask me to run content with them. I also enjoy raiding, so waiting in long que times was not an option. As nice as it would be to simply lop off the dead weight, I would at least like to try to modify PvP a little to encourage them to play it right/seriously and get some better competitions going.

If PvP has to die, though (and I'm sure it will because SE seems to not care AT ALL about this game mode. I mean, there hasn't been a single patch that has improved any facet of PvP, solved any problems, or addressed any issues that pvp'ers have been asking about, since wolves den died. There's just been a couple of game modes. Wonderful commitment, SE. We applaud you.), then I just hope it happens AFTER I finally scrape by to 50. Then, maybe, we can start talking about PvP leagues to try and address que times for players who are still active... So that SE could just ignore that issue too...

It could be worse. You could be sandwiching the team that is losing. I've seen that happen many, many MANY, times (Not to point fingers, but, Adders, I'm looking at you.).

Passive tactics are a problem in the current pvp mode. I do understand why: it's a gamble. If you go, you could be exposing your node to easy take over, or risk getting moved on by both GC's and losing everything, but, if you stay, you stand to gain nothing, and you have no guarantee that the other two GC's won't come to gank your one node anyway. Some people just get gun shy, thinking that defense is the easiest way to handle it. Unfortunately, you have to attack. There's no way around it. The real problem that I've seen in pvp is that people often don't know when's a good time to attack, or which node is good to go for.

9 times out of 10, I see the mob charging headlong into the front of an enemies node, and, 9 times out of 10, they simply run into a brick wall, get a few kills, lose a few deaths, and MAYBE push the enemy off the node to cap the last...10% of it. Congratulations on your big win. This is silliness incarnate. One, charging in immediately is dumb. There are 2 enemy GCs. Why on earth would you move before you know what both enemies are doing? People don't get that sometimes it's best to wait, watch, and then move. Go for the node that is least defended. Sometimes you can cap a node for 80% of it without so much as killing 5 people. You're still attacking, you're just doing it smart. Not every assault has to be a flashy battle that last forever. If you do need those kills to get a good point lead, FLANK the enemy. I know sandwiching is... not nice, but it's smart. Sandwiching the losing GC is cowardly (and pointless since they have less points to concede.), but doing it to the winning team is often the best course of action, especially if it ends some battle highs/fevers. Lastly, for the love of all things good and wonderful, do not provoke BOTH GC's at the same time! How is this a good idea?!

The best wins I've seen had teams that knew when to move and when to stay or wait, but most teams would rather pitch a tent at their nodes, or, if they want to attack, charge right into the middle.

I know exactly what you mean; once in a while we even get people who are clearly only there for the charity marks and free tomestones regardless of standing @ the end of the match. Fortunately, on our GC/ datacenter, the people who vocally in alliance chat start berating those trying to organize the alliance with "lolFFXIVpvp" or "whatever, this game's pvp sucks" usually end up vote-dismissed by their respective party. So I'd like to think that at least our playerbase is a bit proactive about the disruptively nonchalant ruining it for the rest of us.

Melee's have been borked since wolves den first came out. This 72 man zerg fest isn't where balance choices should be made.
The reason there is a melee restriction 1 melee/1 ranged/1 healer/1 tank in wolves den is because the ranged were overpowering everyone else.
They never fixed it they just placed a restriction so that 2 ranged couldnt be in a wolves den at the same time
Melee dont have a heavy or they dont move faster then casters(except ninjas), casters can use sprint without any negative side effects.
Melee's cant use it without having to burn another CD to replenish tp so they can do damage, if you think having to burn 2 cooldowns to HIT a caster is good then you must be a caster.
and as far as straight damage interrupting a cast that shouldnt be the case

I rarely have issues chasing down people who used sprint, you can use weapon throw, stun them (+charge) or just sprint yourself.
And casters are having negative side-effects when they sprint, they can't cast anything while moving.
Melee sucked pretty bad in Slaughter 72 but Seize is totally fine in my opinion, there isn't so much zerg as Slaughter.

I'll consider melee borked when they can no longer stun and then LB to 1-shot my WHM.

Also, side note, as a healer I consider Stone my most offensive spell. Because it inflicts heavy to let my melee kill other casters. All the more reason to STICK BY YOUR HEALER instead of scattering all over the map.

If you're a healer in frontlines I would strongly consider rolling with fending accessories so you can survive the lb, benediction/lustrate/whatever yourself to full health and then laugh at that melee having effectively wasted his lb on you. This of course wont save you if a group is focus targetting you but really nothing will in that instance anyway. You just wanna remove the ability of some lone melee running up to you and one shotting you with a lb, that shouldnt happen to healers nor tanks. Anyway I do agree the fetter ward+stun+melee lb is gimicky and was disappointed that they didnt just keep it in slaughter and out of the new mode but what can you do.

well as a casual player and also i hate pvp (but still i try to follow the guides of who likes it), i would suggest increase bonuses in relation as performance, that would make people like put more effort into it. Lowering eso tomes in special, will make people (like me) stop queing it, its now just fair ammount for some effort. 20 eso x about 15 mins is about the same than doing any of those 2 dungs of 40 eso for about 30 mins (if smooth).
Im know im not good agains other players, im too slow selecting with ps4 control, and not so experienced because it was just pointless and not fun run some any pvp before. Also as side note im belong to twin adders, so im not have hard feelings staying on last because is just eso farming. (btw, with pvp rewards im earning enough tomes to get from 145/150 items to can gear up to be able to run alexander).

i 100% agree with the OP.the current PvP mind is go in and get my exp/tomes/marks.
there are hardly any real pvp fights that are worth it.
just now i had a group that didn't want to rush a node that was protected by 6 players while we had a full alliance.remove any PvE rewards i say and add new things to PvP.
It's crazy how scared some people are to actually PvP in a PvP map.defend, defend, defend is all i hear.no wonder my GC has been on a losing streak

This is exactly why I mentioned that maybe Eso tome bonus might have to go. Last week, I was rocking a 40% win rate in my GC. This week, (keeping in mind It has been ONE day around 15 matches) I've been given a hard shafting and I've got 2 wins total. Why? Because the players that I was playing with at the end of last week had a VASTLY different mindset then the ones I've been playing with at the beginning of this one.

Defend! Defend! Defend! ... That's Bulls***. They're just willing to casually sit by and coast into 3rd place while the other two GC's duke it out over 1st and second. Casual players have ZERO aggression and cost the match. Because they don't know what they're doing they are terrified to attack and they don't stick together. They just want their tomes and meager 3rd place exp so they can be on their way.

I was starting to warm up to the idea of keeping tome bonuses, for the sake of que times, but after the first day of this week I have completely revised my opinion. PvE'ers who have no interest in winning PvP matches have NO PLACE IN PVP. GET OUT AND STOP SCREWING THE REST OF US OVER.

I'm not gonna say that PvE rewards have no place in PvP, but INSTANT PvE rewards should be removed. If they want PvE rewards in PvP then they should require work and effort to get them. It is TOTALLY UNFAIR that PvP Rewards require countless hours of grinding and effort, desperate attempts at winning just to get that little bit more exp or kills, but PvE rewards are instant and you get them regardless of performance or effort. Tomes should go. Add a decent PvE set, or something, that you can only buy if you're at rank 50, but none of this instant crap that encourages the weak and unmotivated (who somehow think they are entitled to demand the team defend) to rule over the committed players.

I (and a lot of committed PvP'ers) do not need cannon meat. We need killers. Dyed int the wool, killers. Cold, ruthless, methodical and thorough (I'm wondering if anyone will catch the reference... =P)

Seriously though. Cannon fodder is one of the problems of casual PvP'ers. Every death costs the team 5 pts. If you die multiple times, or at the very least don't match your kills to your deaths, you are sinking your team into a hole they can't dig their way out of with just tomes. Cannon Fodder is unnecessary for PvP'ers. We need killers, and we need smart ones that know it is best to work together and focus down targets as fast as possible.

Funny fact about PvP that most players don't seem to know: You can win matches without defending a single tome so long as your team is consistently murdering people. That means staying as a massive mob and zerging down targets. The more tightly packed a mob you are, the harder it is for defenders to pick out specific targets in the group. They end up auto targeting pets or tanks, and healers have an easier time keeping up. You almost always fall behind at the beginning of the match, but also almost always end up winning by 200-300 pts by the end. Unfortunately, this only works if the ENTIRE team commits to it, which almost never happens because most people are too scared to attack, or, worse, are lingering at the spawn point and hoping no one will notice because they're really only there to collect their pay stub and move on.

Ps. Your comment about PS4 targeting is accurate. So far, The ONLY downside I've had to playing on PS4 is that the targeting system is sluggish and difficult to cycle. You can fix this by setting up a mouse and keyboard to your system, but you'll still have trouble picking out targets in a tight mob. There's just too many names to sort through, and people are moving too fast. Auto targeting seems to focus pets and tanks before squishier targets, but it directional, so it can be worked. Targeting will try to lock on to the target that is closest to the center of your line of sight. Try the circle jerk to get the target you want. I am constantly disengaging targets with O and re-targeting with X after a slight camera adjustment to find the target I want. I Don't think it's something you can work as a healer, but, with a bit of practice, you can work it as a dps/tank. I've gotten pretty good at it now that I've had some practice.

Nope. Do not remove the eso times from frontlines. I can't stand running fractal/never reap, and though capping weekly isn't as important now that we're progressing through savage, I want to be able to get my PVE
Through PvP. The odd run of Alex nm only gives 10, not enough to grind that either.

Nope. Lvl 39 pvp rank here, and I earn my tomes. Problem is I'm stuck with 71 other ppl who might detriment the match. I shouldn't have to bank on others skill/dedication to receive my tomes.

Rank 39 only means you play it a lot, not that you actually put effort it. That being said, I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt. Here's the thing though, Tome capping is super easy. It takes absolutely no time at all, just running your daily roulettes and one run of Alex normal. Why bother keeping tome bonus for something that is easy to get anyway?

Let's compare for a second. Total PvP exp required to reach lvl 50 is 216220 exp. Max exp you can get in match without bonuses or achievements is 400 exp. That's over 500 1st place wins just to cap your level. Good luck with that, since casual pvp'er are constantly screwing over your win ratio.

Weekly cap for eso is 450. Max cap is 2000. There' s a limited amount of eso you can even get, and weekly cap is easily reached just by running your day to day roulette's... WHY THE HECK SHOULD PVP'ER SYMPATHIZE WITH YOUR LAZINESS?! Go run PvE if you want to cap your Eso's. I, and I'm willing to bet most regular pvp'ers, will have no sympathy for someone who's looking for a reward that's handed out like candy for doing pretty much ANYTHING in this game. You're running savage? Great! Get your Eso's there. PvP is PvP. You should be running it because you want to, not because it get's your cap out of the way in a hurry.

I'm not saying you're a bad pvp'er. For all I know, you could be amazing. If that's true then feel free to stick around. The thing is, there's nothing fair about how PvP'ers have to grind this out, putting up with the multitude of PvP problems that plague this game, just to get a measly 400 exp while you, or players even lazier than you, sit comfy getting your Eso bonus every round just for showing up.

There are not any in game tutorials for PvP, or any instruction at all.
You are just thrown into a zone and let Gods helps you. Watching videos may help but still need a deep in explain about the Goal, Area mechanics, Strategies, etc
Also in diferent runs seems to be diferent instructions, some leaders say Stay and Defend. Other ones say Go and Attack. So wich one should be??.

This would be good but remember that ps4 is tied to TV and controller is wireless. Also often you play in a sofa, chair or a bed where is really not comfortable/possible have a mouse and keyboard around.
