Why do you think 90% of my GCD's are glare?

I guess that's what happens when the online presence of War players consistently revolves around gatekeeping other supports, and insisting it's job identity being ''needs to be the best tank in all content'', and ''needs to break content that does not drop BiS''
Got to try the lvl. 91 dungeon. And ya, it’s disappointing compared to Tower of Zot and Holminster.
One, they hard prevent W2W early on. None of the bosses actually do anything that a lvl. 90 player wouldn’t already know. Just simple run around and dodge the orange.
Even the tank was wondering what’s wrong with the dungeon. Not a good look. I actively stopped throwing Excog on the tank because it was absolutely pointless.
I find it strange whenever people claim WAR's entire identity should revolve around "too angry to die", isn't that basically being immortal? In what game would it be called remotely balanced for a tank to be basically immortal?
Self-healing tank? Sure. But self-healing tanks usually come with downsides, such as very little (or none) flat mitigation, usually revolving around boosting their own HP temporarily to delay death.
Note: "Delay death" not "Beat up boss from 100% to 0% without a healer in a fight designed for a 4 player party".
Devs change things all the time. If everything in the game is desgined the way it is to appeal the preference of "majority", there's no need to change anything in the game. You shouldn't add new content because people like the game the way it is. You shouldn't add new jobs because people like the game the way it is. You shouldn't balance skill potency because people like the game the way it is. You shouldn't rework and redesign jobs such as SMN and MNK because beople like the game the way it is. You shouldn't implement graphical update because people like the game the way it is.
If SE make changes based on the feedback, what and whose feedback are they listening to? The silent majority? but the moment they speak up, they no longer respresent "silent" majority. Who's to say the one spoke up actually represent the unanimous opinions?
The official way to leave feedback is through the forum, which you seemed to despise.
You seemed rather attached to this thread which is considered "insignificant" , "don't matter." You made more replies here than many people supporting the strike. Talk about being the center of attention.
Pretty sure you'll still like healing even if SE make drastic changes to healers based on forum feedback, because, to you, any changes are made by the opinions of the majority. You will heed the power of the majority and you will like it.
Compared to the amount of people jumping in this thread leaving dismissive comments full of ridicule without the courtesy even read the OP, I'd say people supporting the strike is usually the receiving end of toxic behavior.

ok so play harder content would be the answer to that.

I never imagined that FFXIV would have so many individuals with questionable behavior and morals playing. Some of you tarnish its reputation for being a friendly and nurturing environment. Shame on you for lacking basic empathy. With people like some of those who support this movement, it is doomed. This should be regarded as a scandal.
I don't see any problems in saying something is boring. You seemed to take it as personal attacks or something.Quote:
Y'all could have used that time spent protesting for something important like Palestine instead. Just saying.
By the way, every point you're trying to make is your own personal opinion as well. Yours is not objective fact. Yours does not represent the voice of the majority.
You keep avoiding many objective facts provided, while dismissing many points made as personal opinions. We have logs from high end content to normal dungeons, from casual player to hardcore elite players, from player skill usage to enemy casts, from incoming damage inflicted by mechanics, to mitigation distribution. All those data fit the definition of objective facts. People back their argument with solid data, while you have none.
The problem is that War players insist *everything* is part of their job identity.
There's a reason War choked out every niche in the tank role.
They think they're too angry to die (Being immortal) is their job identity.
They also think, that big healing is War's job identity.
For some reason, War also needs to do big damage according to War players.
But it also needs to have the best invuln. So yeah, there's just nothing left.
I find square enix fans and final fantasy fans very odd. Now i love ffxiv, but ive only played ffv before and i didnt quite finish it. And of course theres classics like kingdom hearts.
I wouldnt consider myself a squex fan or a final fantasy fan but i dont hate the company or series either. I have my criticisms, like final fantasy's modern era lack of creativity and i dont like the rehashing but i think thats kinda the point of the final fantasy series is that its all heavily recycled and rehashed? Thats fine it just doesnt appeal to me.
Now what im getting at, is these fans are extremely loyal. They dont tolerate any criticism constructive or otherwise and it's far more unique than other gaming fanbases. They are particularly zealous and blind in their loyalty. Maybe its because FF is such a long storied but also samey and rehashed series. Maybe it bleeds over from japanese conformity shame culture.
Anyway, i think this attitude is what leads to ruin. It makes devs out of touch and elitist if their fans will eat anything they are served, like blizzard. But at least blizzard fans complain about the dogwater. I think the blind lack of openmindedness shows through in the failure of 1.0. And also the recent sales failures of FF16 and FF7 part 2 resulting in mass layoffs and announcements of reorganization with downsizing.
Theyve had a lot of one off games that havent met sales either for the high budgets they were given, so they said they have to reduce quality going forward.
There was a Final Fantasy movie a while ago that kinda flopped even though it wasnt really bad. It wasnt great but FF fans gush over its technological innovation but like Elemental, people dont see movies for the new cgi technology used. Its out of touch but fans gush for this stuff, but the fanbase alone isnt enough to sustain the high quality squex wants to develop with, they have to appeal to normies too.
And that means listening to negative feedback, even if it doesnt seem to be from a majority.
They’ve tasted the forbidden fruit and refuses to part ways with it.
Unironically, SE’s slowness when it comes to ‘fixing’ these issues also plays a huge part on this conundrum. The longer this sticks out, the more likely it’ll attract the crowd that likes the problem itself while also driving away the players who abhors them. What’s left after is a totally different crowd.
The same can be said on entire green role’s dumbing down.
Saw a healer selling 100k per runs yesterday.
Role so bad you have to pay people to play it lol
Sweet fast queue times for me...
Decided to punish myself, leveled WHM to 91 to try the first DT dungeon as a healer... My feelings after the run is that I thoroughly wish to tie the entire team of developers to chairs and force them to play through the entire game and MSQ as a CNJ/WHM from level 1 to 100.
To be fair, that has happened literally every expansion, even during expansions where Healers were more complex than today, but it happens extremely prominently on any expansion which didn't have a new healer due to queues getting lop-sided by the new jobs they added.
People just see opportunities to make easy gil, nothing new really.
I mean.... I'm not a healer main but I value and appreciate healers mains in any content that I do (giving commendations to healers even if it's not their main role that they play). So I'm not sure what's up. When I play healers, it seems fine. They have added gap closer to healer job so they don't explode more easily in savage raids. I mean if healers die in a savage content it's a straight up GG. Devs beefed up astro with 3 card sets, which is nice. Scholar is still scholar. They shield when necessary and dps throughout the rest of the fight. White mage still white mage, OgCD heals to get everyone topped up and then glare 3 throughout the fight. If you want healers to do more damage then they will just become actual dps, if that's the case. You might as well go play a dps role. But hey, if you guys want to stop playing ff14 just because of some changes that makes it too easy to play...? Then yeah so be it. Another person will take your place as a healer because healers are always in need. Also sweet as for me. Easier queue times when I play healer (I'm going to need faster queues to level all my healers from 90 to 100) :)
P.S: I wish you guys all the best with the strike. Good luck!
I love how everyone who seems to be against the strike literally doesn’t understand any of the points any of us have made. Like 90% of the objections I’ve seen are normies who think this is all because Xeno cleared the 91 dungeon without a healer when that was just the straw that broke the camel’s back.
Literally none of that is the point. The point is it isn’t fun mashing glare/malefic/broil/dosis 130+ times in ALL forms of content.
If the devs want to keep healing requirements low for casuals that’s fine, but we need more DPS buttons like we had before ShB.
If the devs want to increase healing requirements so we actually have to use GCD heals so we feel like healers, awesome.
But refusing to do either of these just won’t do.
Oh, the devs definitely did both. But they did it in the worst, most spiteful manner possible.
We ask for more damage buttons to press? They give us extra buttons to press, but on a 120s CD, and not on the GCD so it does absolutely nothing to break up filler nuke spam.
We ask for higher healing requirements? They give us higher damage fights, but every other role also gets to heal and mitigate so we heal just about as much as we already do (or even less in casual content).
This is a very insightful post. This thread had received a lot of pushback from warriors because we've been pointing out the elephant in the room.
Anyone looking at the job from a detached point of view can see warriors need to be nerfed for the good of the game as a whole. Not only do they significantly diminish the contribution of healers, the overpoweredness of warriors is unfair to players of other tanks. This is especially true for dark knights, who've had to watch their abilities be taken away only to have better versions of those abilities be given to warriors later.
Here's how I think tanks should be.
1. Warriors = Abilities which boost health and damage temporarily through rage. Needs extra healing after health buff wears off.
2. Paladins = Strong mitigation combined with abilities to protect the party. Does less damage than the other tanks.
3. Dark Knights = Abilities which recover health from damage along with devastating attacks. Has to balance between using their MP to recover health or using it for their special attacks.
4. Gunbreakers = Mobility and high APM play focused on weak mitigation and quick attacks. Balanced between using their MP for mobility to get in and out of harm's way, applying weak mitigation, or quick combos.
I have friends who are healer main like Sage, scholar etc and they don't mind the changes. They will still play the role because they like the job that they play. In terms of mashing glare/malefic/broil/ dosis etc. I mean i don't know.... do you healers want a midare setsugekka or spam fire 4 like a black mage and stressing over timers? I think spamming a skill is just part of the norm. Because at the end of the day. Clearing content is the end goal.
Just because something is the norm, does not mean it should not be changed. Clearing content should not be the end goal, having fun playing the game should be the goal. This is a game about overcoming obstacles and enjoying that journey. People want to be engaged with the healer role, and it's obviously lacking for a part of the population.
Also I want to make a note here. Like players who main bard has it worse imo. Because their personal dps is almost non-existent compared to other dps roles but I seen pretty high end bard players (few but still there). They play bard because they enjoy the job. Xeno can survive without healers is because he's know the ins/out of a warrior, just like I know the ins/out of a samurai. So yeah, I still don't know what's up. When SE nerfed samurai dps to be lower than a ninja in Endwalker, it was rough but there was no need to go on a strike because it was still fun to play even if I was just spamming midare setsugekka + Kaeshi: setsugekka which is equivalent of spamming glare/dosis/malefic/broil etc etc.
Samurai is in all the fastest clears of all Anabaseios Savage floors. Samurai are tied for highest adps job in EW (tied with BLM), and I believe they also come ahead of Ninja in rdps.
If you're playing your Samurai by pressing mostly 2 buttons, I don't know what you're doing.
Sure, having fun in a job you play is a goal but having fun in a job also falls on the player themselves. You can't put 100% of responsibility on devs. I doubt the devs wake up everyday and think "hmmm... how can I screw with all the healer mains in the game". Like come on this isn't world of warcraft. So I think people who are truly unhappy with healer job should change their mindset instead and find ways to make healer job that you play more fun. Because there are many other healer mains that is still having fun with their healer jobs even with these new changes.
I was giving an example of spamming a skill. Just like healers don't just spam glare/dosis/broil/malefic. But midare setsugekka is spammed more times than all the other skills. In terms of having a high rdps than ninja sure this was correct but I do remember looking through the logs and there was even a chart someone made in a EW patch (I can't remember which patch) but ninja was a tad higher than a samurai (This was data that was collectively pulled from all logs that was uploaded).
The thing with that is that they've effectively softened everything up to a point that it's actually tanks that are obsolete, because a DPS or a Healer can easily survive a "tankbuster" in generally anything below Extreme Trials. And as they made tanks obsolete, they also gave WAR and PLD more than enough tools to actually function as healers.
But as tanks can heal themselves, and everything hits for barely anything... Healers have more downtime, which inherently isn't a bad thing but they just absolutely refuse to give Healers anything to do with said downtime. All we get is spamming 1. Occasionally pressing 2 to reapply a DoT.
Yo dude, no need to get sarcastic. I can smell the salt all the way from Turliyollal lol. Sure midare spam is much less than the healers but I spam glare/malefic/broil/dosis when I play healers too and it's fine because I'm more concerned/busy of keeping the party alive than which color is my parse is going to be to after the clear. But hey you do you, living that salt life can be fun I guess...? Lol.
Tanks aren’t obsolete for the single reason that in casual content they are the only ones who can effortlessly hold all agro and function without the other roles
In a dungeon a 1T3D is infinitely preferable to 1h3d and in a raid 4t4d is better than 4h4d
That’s our exact point where are you “busy keeping the party alive”, the tank is immortal in casual content and in savage you just fart out an oGCD and you’ll be at full by the next damage in 30 seconds
I don't design the game either but seem kinda immature of you to put the blame on the devs when they actually want the game to fun as well. Sure you can put 100% of the responsibility on the dev (its a free world), doesn't mean you are right thinking that you can't have fun playing a job just because you spam a skill 22 times a minute or what not.
At first blush, that is my gut feeling as well. Where was the rotation? My FC mates and I talked a while about it and we decided to wing it.
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the job. I loved being able to dash around and splash my enemies with paint and actually laughed when my character pulled out a big hammer and started smashing things.
Pictomancer is so much fun to play! Pictomancer is nothing like the complexity for complexity's sake job I feared it would be.
There are layers upon layers there; but, there's also choice. It doesn't feel as simple as Summoner (a job I actually enjoy too) . Best of all, there's no pressure to "get it right." Mix and match as you see fit.
So, I second your recommendation. Check out Pictomancer, everyone!

Also if Blizzard is doing an outstanding job at their game, I'm not sure why you are here complaining about healing job/roles when WoW seems like a better option to you. Because in my opinion. Healers in hard content are always busy. They don't seem bored at all. So I'm not sure what you are doing as a healer.
I absolutely do not regret hanging up my healer hat to be a pictomancer main. It's fun and complex and I get to juggle a lot of things without being overwhelmed!
I would like to see someone try to do a dungeon with a DRK and 3 DPS (without RDM for Vercure) to show that Tanks aren't obsolete, and it's not that WAR or PLD can double as a healer.
Alternatively, if you wanted to see if they indeed are, you could try to pull off doing a dungeon with 4 RDM, if I am correct they should be able to just facetank the boss and Vercure each other back up.

part 2 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zttiIWIZsaA
I have wrote this somewhere before that explains the tl;dr of these two vids:
Quote:
That 1DRK + 3DPS endeavor was run with MINE in the following duties:All of these dungeons are filled with more commonly known "hard to heal by DF healer"-pulls. Again, with MINE active. It's not a situation you'll realistically see in daily DF runs - that's the equivalent of not wearing all gears obtained from first playthrough of MSQ on all 4 participants. It was far from a series of perfect runs. That low of a collective HPS was all that's needed, let that sink in. It should NOT even be a thing ideally.
- Holminster Switch - no completion time data.
- Amaurot - 15:58
- Bardam's Mettle - 14:57
- The Tower of Zot - 22:03 (wipe once on last boss, cleared in 2nd pull)
- Dohn Mheg - 15:17 (also no interrupt/interject used on Fuath)
- Mt. Gulg - 15:36 (with first megapull of 5 packs & last megapull, NO wipes on both.)
- Shisui of the Violet Tides - 12:30 (wipe once on megapull after 1st boss)
- Doma Castle - 15:39 (wipe once on megapull after 1st boss)
- The Qitana Ravel - 20:25 (wipe once on last megapull)
I agree it's not remotely comparable, but I also don't expect it to be. If I want an involved DPS rotation, I'll...play DPS...I don't play a healer to go through dps rotations; I play a healer to...well...heal...DPS is just filler for me when I heal, so it just being a dot and a spell (either single-target or AoE) is fine by me.
Or play other jobs that they find more fun, and let those who enjoy current healer design be the healers. My opposition to the "strike" is their focus on making this all about themselves and trying to fundamentally change the role for other people who are enjoying it when they could just simply switch to something else they find more fun.Quote:

Blizzard looked at the data and responded appropriately. Shadowlands was an absolute disaster of an xpac that saw their population plummet. Remember the whole "WoW exodus"? EW, meanwhile, had the highest active playerbase to date for FFXIV at every point along the way (even after the "WoW exodus" subsided). SE is also listening to feedback - just feedback from everyone through the myriad data gathering they do rather than selectively listening to the minuscule few of us that post on the forums. Blizzard had a problem they needed to solve. SE has a game still on an upward trajectory.Quote:
Ironically Blizzard has been doing an outstanding job listening to and acting upon feedback the last two years.
Not when you play random roulettes with random, typical players. If you play with people who are sufficiently expert in skill at the game, then yes, casual content will be a cakewalk no matter what you bring, but play typical runs with typical players, and healers typically will need to do quite a bit of active healing to keep the party alive. That's the exact point that seems to be missed and leads to frustration.Quote:
That’s our exact point where are you “busy keeping the party alive”, the tank is immortal in casual content
I would like to see a group of random, average players do this. There is no doubt in my mind a group of veteran streamers who have min-maxed the heck out of the game could take a party of anything and clear a dungeon. That would also be completely meaningless for the typical player. When random players of moderate skill can consistently pull off something like what you suggest, then I'd start arguing there's an issue.Quote:
