All the Gearsyncing is getting out of Hand, at least for me.

I mean, whats the Point of grinding Savagegear every Week when it gets downsynced in almost everything that is not current Patch? Except Bozja of course. This gets Gearsync even though it is "current" content.

Yeah but.. isnt that the point of gathering Gear? So you become stronger? Can do things Easier?

It is probably just me but i would really like less Syncing in Dungeons or Content from the current Expansion when using Roulette. I mean, it is the sole reason i dont touch lvl 80 Roulette cause i dont want to Tank yet another Run in Amaurot with nerfed down Equipment.

Am i alone with that opinion or are there any others who see the downscaling in current expansion content as a defeat of purpose?

Personally, I am not a fan of removing or making gear syncing more relaxed, I'd personally like it to be more stringent, at least then so our gear is not carrying newer players too much.

I can definitely see the perspective, it is why I don't bother with gearing too much, I just think there are better ways in which they could address this issue though, I mean as far as content goes it's not too bad with Ultimate since you're gearing towards that if that is your desire. It's just unfortunate that this isn't necessarily consistent with Savage (e.g. no Ultimate this raid cycle).

Like on the note of syncing too, I just see that as a "Yes I get to complete my expert roulette a little more efficiently (Dungeons onward of Heroes Gauntlet shouldn't be bound by sync btw if my understanding is correct).. But it doesn't really present you with an aim afterward, and I think they should go more in the direction of giving players an end goal or something with a little more repeatability or even spice up their rigid 'content formula'

Honestly gear syncing wouldn't be so bad if melds were kept or scaled down in some way, hurts a lot to lose all your DH in 90% of content as a healer or Tank... Or lose all your SKS/SPS melds and becoming unable to fit in that extra hit in some skill windows.

Instances are tied to stories, meaning you did them at certain point in time. If you want to feel stronger beating the same enemy that you've already beaten in the past, there is the undersized party option. Otherwise, there are max level non-item-level-synced contents to do if you want to feel stronger with your savage gear without having to use undersized party option. And, of course, there are non-fate enemies in the open world ready for you to use your gear as well.

This is also why the claim that if you don't do certain high end content then you don't need equivalent gear is missing the point.

So being stronger then intended for all the ARR isnt enough, you also want more power from melds? Gear scaling isnt the problem, its the I gotta finish this x in the shortest time possible mentality thats plaguing duty finder.

The biggest issue with gear for me is i'm kind of funneled into what I wear, there is no option or choices, it is all very streamlined.. If am Dragoon, well there's maiming gear. That's it. I can glam it and make it look cool and all, but basically I want to focus on hitting certain thresholds with my stats through jiggling around whatever pieces have whatever stats I'm trying to focus on to hit a threshold. The entire system is kind of bleh. The only MMORPG I played that really seemed to do it in a way that I really enjoyed it was Ultima Online, but even that had massive issues, until Imbuing came along, and event still were several issues if you were trying to min-max, or get the most out of every "suit" of gear. But that game is a whole other kind of game, and more open ended (imo better in that regard).

There's still fun stuff for me in XIV, but the current system for me is just yaag. Don't like it, don't really have a suggestion to "Fix it" outside of completely veer away from this kind of super simplified trend they've been going on, and rethink it, probably to the extreme push back of the community and fires of rebellion.

So, not really too bothered with synched down stuff. I personally can't stand savage, and most of the savage people I meet are not people I even like being around or talking with. There are a few tho that are fun. I'm not a min-maxer or push myself to know a rotation to its maximum effiency type of play, so my arguments probably null and void by "the crowd", so I'll leave it and say I think gearing was better in 2.series and has gone downhill ever since.

Outside of potential issues with Skill or Spellspeed, I don't really mind stat syncs. It's all so incremental that it barely matters anyway. I mostly only care about gear just to continue content, only really focusing on the nitty gritty for savage. Gear stats would need to have a much bigger input in mechanics to make me really be too concerned about gear sync personally.

I wouldn't mind if they could make gear sets that are side grades, maybe with different effects that create different builds, but they'd basically have to end leveling to start a system like that, and i'm not sure how well it would work with the current system. Not that that's an inherent flaw, just that it would definitely be a pivot.

I was never really a fan of the whole tomestone system in general. As an idea I like it, but having to phase out tomestones and having so many sets seems very silly.. I always wondered why not 1 tomestone set for the entire expansion that can be upgraded 2-3 times.

For me, I'd rather horizontal progression actually be a thing. Like, as a BLM if you melded enough spell speed, or got a set that did spell speed, it would significantly reduce your "turret mode" time; alternatively you could up the damage. End result in a skilled players hands would be near identical DPS, just larger-slower hits vs smaller-faster.

Secondly, the final tomestone sets are stupid easy to get at the end of an expansion, like the Shire set in 3.0. I never really understood why they could carry you about 1/2 way through the next expansion.

Horizontal progression tends to mean holding on to more gears, so I prefer vertical progression.

Because augmented tomestone gears are near equivalent to Savage gears.

They just need to add more relevant content to do with endgame gear. Aside from high end raid.

That would just mean more high end raid style content. While it is semi popular, its not the core of the audience so this idea is doomed to be on repeat on the forums. Devs make more content for the core and less for the fringe so unless high end raids suddenly become the most popular thing in FFXIV they aren't going to put more in, that would also mean less new and lower level players so they might also just stop making content like FFXI.

It wouldn't really mean more complex stuff like high end raid content, it means more things tuned to expected at patch gear levels.

Right now the content in each 2 patch cycle is designed so that everyone has at a minimum:

• Uncapped Tomestone gear -30 - Even number patch expert dungeon.
• Uncapped Tomestone gear -15 - Even number patch normal mode trial
• Uncapped Tomestone gear -10 - Odd number patch expert dungeon
• Uncapped Tomestone gear -5 - Odd numbered patch normal mode trial and Alliance Raid
• Augmented Uncapped Tomestone gear/Savage gear - Normal Mode Raid and Even numbered patch EX trial.
• Normal Mode Raid gear - Odd numbered patch EX trial.
• New Crafted gear/Capped Tomestone gear/Alliance Raid gear - Savage Mode Raids
• Augmented Tomestone gear/Savage gear - Ultimate

Most active players and savage raiders tend to be overgeared for everything outside Savage/Ultimate in odd numbered patches while quickly outgearing everything but Savage/Ultimate in even numbered patches.

What is being asked for is midcore complexity content tuned for Normal Mode Raid gear and/or capped tomestone gear. We are getting lots of "catch up" gear but have little to catch to.

There are actually fewer max level instances that sync you down to a certain ilv opposed to those that only have a min ilv requirement. And the current treasure dungeon actually syncs players up to ilv505. Then there is the matter of really only needing BiS gear for content that is current. The argument I have is identical to those who wish to have their max level skills on lower level content: If you want to be at max power, then queue up for the most current content.

Not many peeps are going to use an argument that supports longer dungeon runs. However, instances like Amaurot and Shiva Unreal will sync players to a certain ilv in order to maintain a certain level of difficulty.

I for one support this kind of sync system that way mechanics cannot be ignored. You should probably be happy that they don't use this more frequently, because they could easily make this change to roulettes such as Alliance Raids and Trials, but the devs allow players to steamroll some of these instances.

I do see your side of things, and understand your frustration with grinding gear and then getting synced down. Similar to what I said earlier, a similar pain is felt when you are synced to a lower level, and a lot of players avoid roulettes that do this if they can help it. It's important though as it maintains the incentive to run the newest content. It really doesn't make a whole lot of sense to allow players to be at max power when the roulette throws them in old content.

Your frustration is shared, and I have suggested that a way to handle it is there needs to be two roulette systems that accommodates players wanting exp (older content), and those wanting tomes (newest content with certain exceptions). Dungeons already do this by separating Expert from everything else. Inside Expert, you will always be at max power, or what your gear allows. However, they can do this with Trials, Raids and Alliance raids as well. 80 dungeons should remain separate because even though you might get synced down, you won't have to worry about losing any skills for that roulette.

If they want to feel powerful they can just unsycn like Copperbell normal. No the OP wants to faceroll roulettes just so they don't have to deal with new/bad players and get all the rewards for doing so.

Separating expert roulette dungeons from the other max level dungeons is a mistake in my opinion. In fact, I would rather they combine expert and max level dungeon roulettes into one max level roulette and also combine leveling and previous max level dungeon roulettes into one leveling roulette.

I also don't think the community would be served well by separating the roulettes for trials, normal raids, and alliance raids when the point is to get people together. The only reason why separating the roulettes work for expert dungeons (which I still think is a mistake regardless) is because it's one way to gear in current patch. So you can do daily expert roulette and get a chance to gear without having to grind continuously. Normal trials have no gear reward and raids have loot lockout, so they're no good as a daily gearing method.

To each their own. As is, I've capped out on this expansion for the most part with little really to do. I could get better gear, but I can already complete all the content I want to do with what I have with friends of similar iLVL, so it's not really a useful investment in time to get better gear that'll just get outclassed in a month or three. With horizontal I could at least get some gear sets for wild shenanigans. Completely different game, but as an example I took a lot of time building up my WHM in FFXI to get be a dual-wielding tanky-haste-nightmare that I could solo a lot of things with. Not necessary for content, but it was something fun to work towards.

Well, yeah, because there is no item level sync for alliance raids. Item level sync is only for certain dungeons, a trial in Shadowbringers (don't remember previous trial having item level sync), and I guess (not sure) Ultimate duties.

Every other dungeons, trials, and raids only have level sync, so that means you're synced to the highest item level for that level.

The only people in this thread who are ok with content constantly syncing us are casuals. Anyone who raids looks at their raid gear and knows the only content it’s useful for is the raid itself. That’s is bulls**t. The OP is right, we get gear to get stronger. Stop making synced content

I've always wondered about why they do that. The point of mmos and rpgs for a lot of people is, progression and progressing your character. I don't understand doing all the work just to have it all removed or have to relevel again in their many many releveling systems. If not blowing through content is a concern then maybe they should make their super brain dead content harder? Or just get over the fact that it might be cleared faster if someone has raid gear. I'm told most people in this game don't even raid so it shouldn't be that big of an issue.

That's fair, but it's also a big ask to want to change how this game works on that level after 10 years, a reboot, and 3 expansions. I, for one, like how this game functions at its core, especially its gearing system, and I hope that doesn't change.

It's a mini reward. You did the work to grind and augment your tomestone or do Savage, and you get to keep it for some time (if you want) while leveling. Not everyone does that and the new early gears could be an upgrade for them. None of it matters anyway as you'll be going for your first max level gear of the new expansion.

There is clearly progression in FFXIV, with many max level content not having item level sync.

The problem with all the content except savage is that it is designed for an ilvl wich you can reach without any weekly lockouts (or crafted gear). They do this because they want that we are able to join the content with our 2nd and 3rd classes, but this means we already outgear the content on our main job when it gets released by at least 30 item levels.

They really should increase the item level wich they design content for, especially since they lift the weekly lockouts on tomestones in even numbered patches and on the normal raid gear in the odd numbered one, there is really no reason to let people with their 2nd classes with gear from 2 patches ago into brand new content. The 2nd classes can easily catch up to our main jobs when a new patch gets released.

There are some older ex trials in this game that if you try and solo them, despite having i500 and being unsync'd they can still put you face first in the mud. End of the day want to steam roll go in unsync'd you will plow through most 4 mans like a knife through butter.

Gear progression is just a carrot that, in the end, you don't really need.
You could now quit the game, come back 1 week before the next expansion and be exactly at the same place as people playing religiously every day.

Increasing the item level requirement would only make Savage-level gear closer to a requirement rather than a bonus that rewards you for getting them.

Again, it's literally the opposite of what the OP is saying they want to be able to do with their Savage gears. Granted, it does give an answer to the question of what the point of getting Savage gear is, but then again, that question is already answered in that it makes content easier to do.

We are not talking solely about savage gear. We are talking about current tier high ilvl gear which can be either savage or tomestone, doesn't matter. What matters is that if we look at what relevant content it's useful for then there isn't a lot. Let's assume you've farmed your 450 Allegory dilligently each week and you're in full tomestone gear, maybe even Augmented Tomestone because you did Puppet's Bunker and Factory for months.

What is it actually good for? Not savage because you're not doing that. You could use it in the Treasure dungeon but that one was already a cakewalk in Ronkan gear. You could use it in the 24man if you still want to keep doing that after you probably have everything from it. You can use it for the two Expert dungeons if you still do that, which by the way will be 1 Expert dungeon in 5.4 because Hero's Gauntlet is still gonna be in the roulette but sync you to 500. Or maybe the ex trial if you do those. What is most likely is that by the time you have your full Augmented gear you will have run everything but the ex trial so often that you really can't be bothered to anymore, because you have to run that same content in order to get the gear in the first place.

I'm not looking at BiS gear in this example exactly because raiding savage significantly reduces the time you need to acquire high ilvl gear. Your BiS is often made up of 50% savage and 50% tome gear which means you not only have 2 different sources to get gear from but also potentially reduces the amount of weekly lockouts to get said gear and on top of that gives you access to upgrade materials before the release of the 24man.


Regardless of what the OP wants, what I would be looking for is some of that "dreaded" challenging 4man content. Hell, not even challenging, just something between Extreme and Expert difficulty that you can carry your ilvl 500 gear into to maybe get some use out of it.

Well, that depends on the player.

I only do dungeons when I level or when I need to get tomestone, but otherwise, my main content in FFXIV is doing daily roulette for trials, normal raids, and alliance raids. And when I do get a max level duty in one of those, better gear will always be better, though they're still useful even on synced contents. I just did Ridorana earlier today in roulette and it was so fun doing it with people being overgeared even when synced down.

Regarding that, what kind of reward would it give? There is not much room and it might make even more content and/or reward feel "redundant" or even "useless" with the addition of a content that is between Expert and Extreme, or even Expert and Savage.

And if you want challenge, they'll likely add level sync for accessibility in exchange.

If not blowing through content is a concern then maybe they should make their super brain dead content harder? Or just get over the fact that it might be cleared faster if someone has raid gear. I'm told most people in this game don't even raid so it shouldn't be that big of an issue.

Because they need content to last. While story may play a factor, the technical reason is they simply cannot produce new content fast enough for how quickly players breeze through nearly everything. Not to mention, removing ilvl sync would make new content incredibly boring. Imagine Shiva Unreal without a sync. She's i430, which means she's hilariously easy for anyone at i450 and basically a total faceroll by i500. Having gone back to Eden's Gate Savage to farm gear for Ultimate. It's comical just how overpowered we are.

Actually, no. As a raider myself, I prefer syncing because I'd rather have enjoyable content and not facerolls. One of the main reasons I despise getting LoTA and Syrcus Tower in Alliance is because they're both so pathetically easy due to how OP we are, they're boring. The whole enjoyment of fights in FFXIV is learning mechanics, which gets downright ignored without a sync. In fact, even back as a new player, I was disappointed upon queuing into Thordan Normal for the first time. He was so embarrassingly weak, I stood in everything. Here's the climax of Heavensward and I'm laughing at it. That took away some of the story's tension and enjoyment for me.

The issue, in my opinion, is less about being synced down and more there just isn't enough current ilvl content. I understand they want things like Bozja to be accessible but making it i430 is part of why gearing feels hollow. They need to add more to do with our raid ilvl, especially since they dislike parsing. Which, ironically, is the only purpose Savage gear has outside Ultimate.

I know so many sprouts who have this buildup going into Cape Westwind, and Castrum Meridianum, and Praetorium, where it's going to be this Big Fight for the fate of Eorzea... and then people just absolutely steamroller through and no one worries about mechanics in the least. And it's a huge disappointment. Heavensward has amazing story, but Thordan as a fight is anticlimactic. Some of that is just gear powercreep when you have high-level folks queuing in via roulette, since even as it is high-level gear tends to sync down extremely OP. Some of it is things not being rebalanced for new kit after several expansions.

Take the Crystal Tower storyline: it feels like it should be a struggle since you're fighting basically what was the very heart of Allagan power in its last days, and then stepping into the Void itself to take on a powerful Voidsent. But LotA and Syrcus, people just ignore mechanics that aren't an instant-wipe; WoD has some you have to do, but people so outgear it now that you can basically have half the group asleep or AFK and still clear. (Which is arguably beneficial in one sense, as many people will be half-asleep after their eleventy-six-thousandth run of Labyrinth.)

And that that's with syncing down. Without ilevel sync, it feels like only forced animations/phase transitions would keep anything in there alive more than 20 seconds at most.

All of the issues you speak of are easily fixable by lowering the ilvl sync.

Cape Westwind? Should have an 45-50 ilvl sync. I think it's 120 ish right now.
LOTA? Should be 50-75 (Right now it's 120 or 130)
ST? Should be 70-90 (Right now it's 120 or 130)
WoD? Should be 90-110 (Right now it's 120 or 130)

See all those massive ilvl discrepencies? The reason we blow through that content is our ilvls synced down are twice what they should be in Westwind / LOTA, 50% higher than they should be in Sycrus Tower, and 15% higher than they should be in World of Darkness.

The fix for this is EXTREMELY easy but the FFXIV Developers REFUSE to implement it. Send your criticism their way.

LotA and ST are not actually ilevel synced. All 3 ARR Alliance Raids sync to the expansion's ilevel cap of i130/i135 and demonstrate what content would be like without ilevel sync.

We need more content that requires current patch gear not the ability to increase the gap by which we overgear content.

To low. LotA's should sync to i90 the patch set cap it was designed for. The other biggest factor is that it was designed for 6 tank:6 healers:12 dps when Alliance raid are now designed for a 3:6:15 ratio.

But they're the ones killing it. They made the game way too casual and everything is obtainable within a day. There's a middle ground between log in and win and grinding for months to get drops and devs are too lazy to find that middle ground.

Content can last longer if they make it harder and more meaningful, everything here outside of savage feels like fluff content.

I used the min ilvl as the baseline for all of my ilvl syncs.

In your scenario even at 90 ilvl for LOTA, you're almost double what the minimum should be. That is way too generous.

Not really. LotA's, ST and WoD mini ilevels are actually much lower than what they were tuned for. LotA was tuned for i70, awards i80 and player maxed out in i90 gear at release. ST was tuned for i90, awards i100 and the cap at release was i110. WoD was tuned for i110, awards i120 gear with i130 as the max ilevel at release. The appropriate mini ilevels are i65 for LotA, i85 for ST and i105 for WoD.

You can see this in the ilevel factors for the other Alliance Raids:

• Void Ark's minimum is i175, augmented uncapped tomestone gear was i180, it rewards i200 gear and i210 was the ilevel cap.
• Mhach is i205 minimum, augment uncapped was i210, rewards are i230 while the max was i240.
• Dun Scaith is i235 minimum, augment uncapped was i240, rewards are i260 while the max was i270.
• Rabanastre is i305 minimum, uncapped was i310, rewards are i330 while the max was i340.
• Ridorana is i335 minimum, augment uncapped was i340, rewards are i360 while the max was i370.
• Orbonne is i365 minimum, augment uncapped was i370, rewards are i390 while the max was i400.
• Factory is i435 minimum, uncapped was i440, rewards are i460 while the max was i470.
• Bunker is i465 minimum, augment uncapped is i470, rewards are i490 and the max is i500.

I mean, yes, but syncing someone in i500 gear down to i130 is still syncing things down, even if it's not exactly the same calculation as used elsewhere. Going in with them still having the benefit of full i500 gear would almost certainly be even more dramatic.

Anyway, I almost think what would make more sense is if you looked at someone's gear within the appropriate expansion for the level their job is at, and adapted it down from there. You're level 70+ and in Augmented Scaevan? You get the full i90 in LotA... until you hit 80. But you're level 80 and in, say, Augmented Deepshadow gear? Well, now when you get into LotA, you're at i70 or something.

There's drawbacks to this method, too, especially given the fact that each time you hit an expansion cap you'd suddenly be weaker in these lower-level duties until you geared up appropriately. But it is one that would give you a rewarding feel of power in even lower-level instances for having gear at the appropriate capstone. (And you'd even get a feel for it when you weren't yet at endgame; having that Augmented Scaevan gear from level 70 on would let roulettes give you a taste of what life could be like if you did get that capstone gear when you hit 80.)

But the drawbacks to that idea may outweigh any real gains.

Stick to doing content designed for your gear level and the problem is solved.

If you want to revisit old content and feel OP in your gear designed for harder content, run it unsynced. You have that option. It's not like you need the roulette bonuses and tomestones if you already have Savage gear. If you wanted the tomestones to gear a different job - try using that job? Seems silly to gear a job you don't want to play.

There are plenty of players that have never stepped foot into any Savage content.

Of those who have, most did not do it when it was current content. They waited until it was previous expansion content and level/gear increases plus the Echo made it easier to farm for whatever cosemtic/vanity item they wanted.

It's safe to say this game would be doing just fine without Savage, even if it wouldn't be a game you personally would want to play. There are plenty of MMOs out there surviving financially with only a small fraction of the active players this game has.

Honestly, the real joke is your attitude considering you're the one who has chosen to play this game when you could be playing other games that are more hardcore.
