I wish I could just get a next-gen FFXI. Let's leave FFXIV alone and move forward by going back.
I never left, please come back & newcomers are welcome too!!
If you have never tried it, I recommend & suggest trying it even tho it changed a lot and also I encourage return as it changed a lot for players that had a bad experience with it back in the days.
If you left the game quickly back then, then there is a lot of content that you have not seen now & the actual gameplay changed quite a bit although I still like the original aspects & the design of it that remains.
That's what I have to say about a slow XI & a slow 1.0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXWb5v-mZnY
P.S. No indicators on attacks from what i have read does not make it sound to me like 1.0 was slow,if anything computers requirements & players reactions probably was what made it feel that way. No indicators would make it feel to me that attacks are actually happening fast.
You may want to read the history books... or simply look at the political situation in many countries right now.
This usually starts with the Government annexing a neighboring piece of land, then...
A) Government declares some minority group as being illegal and less-than human
B) Government makes policies specifically to dehumanize them, turns a blind eye to any genocide under their policies.
C) Government strips the minority group of their resources.
D) Everyone is surprisingly okay with this until the Government falls, and suddenly it's everyone for themselves. If you're rich, you're likely going to become a victim, and that's why rich people flee countries when they become unstable, taking most of the countries wealth with them.
This is everything the Garleans have done and we're now on the way to D with them.
A. The Garleans invade a country and mistreat the Majority group. Treat them less than human. The obsession of "purity" of the Garleans that were driven into a small country would make them the minority in every country but their own.
B. The Garleans are from a small country and are obsessed with purity. Their genocide depopulates their own Empire until there are barely enough to run basic services. They don't even bother protecting the people that have sworn loyalty to them either.
C. The Garleans aren't stripping resources from the Majority. They just destroy the resource output of the conquered until everyone is starving.
D. Who would be okay with this? And who would get rich under this system? Collaborators seemingly get no protection and the GDP of these occupied territories has to be abysmally small. And when was the last time saw a loyal Garlean actually do any work besides killing somebody or standing around waiting to be killed?
Perhaps you should read a history book. Empires are built on greed but the Garleans are not greedy. They see a farm, they torture and conscript the farmers until everyone is starving. They see a fishing village, they murder the fisherman. They see a quarry and beat and starve the workers. They see a saltmine and drive the people off so that the wildlife reclaims it. They see a paper mill and they destroy it and leave it in ruins. The Garleans do not profit from war, they aren't motivated by it and every action they take says otherwise. Their occupations makes the lands worthless and they must be spending fortunes building the towers, artillery pieces, mecha, shield generators and bases too. This "Empire" should have crumbled the moment the Garleans left Garlemald.
The sinews of war are infinite money, but the Garleans sidestep this because they are one dimensional villains. We learn rebuilding the Doman enclave that they stole all the good tools from the Domans. But we already know the Garleans and their magi-tech don't need medieval tools, they probably just chucked them in the ocean because that was the "cartoonishly evil" thing to do.
I'd like to believe that somewhere along the lines they are still loyal towards their birth country and that will probably never change, they just don't agree with their actions at the current present.
One can still remain loyal towards their own country, yet still disagree and propose opposition against their ways simply because they feel it's doing more harm than good, which displays self pride and concern for their fellow countrymen even if they're supporting the people that their own country dislikes at the same time.
Basically, it's a "for the greater good" type scenario.
Excluding the beast tribes and Dragons you mean. You ignored my point however.
In "our" history books, there is always a resource or a military strategically important reason to invade, which usually stems from breaking treaties. The Garleans invaded La Noscea, Thanalan, The Black Shroud, and had already taken over Ala Mhigo and Doma. Hence the Ala Mhigo refugees near Ul'dah and Doman refugees in Mor Dhona. So it is not an unreasonable prediction that Garlemald gives up every place they've invaded at some point once we "Warrior of Light" stick our nose in at some point.
Yes the Garleans are a bit cartoonish, but I think reality has surpassed the cartoonish villainy earlier this year. There are still major global conflicts going on, and they're over borders.
Well, at some point Cid actively worked against the Empire, such as when he helped the Scions break out the other Scions captured at the Garlean base. And if I remember correctly, Lucia gives you a mecha to help you mow down other Garlean soldiers by the bushel. Some might call that treason, not loyalty. But I'll agree it's "treason for the greater good".
A. When have the Garleans declared a minority as being less-than human? The Ala Mhigans weren't a minority in Ala Mhigo and they were mistreated. The Domans weren't a minority in Doma but they were mistreated. And the Garleans tried to purge Eorzea of all life with Project Meteor and the Eorzeans were not a minority in Eorzea.
B. No established minority discrimination by Garleans in the story as far as I can tell.
C. No established minority discrimination by Garleans in the story as far as I can tell.
D. I haven't seen this happen in FFXIV yet, even after the fall of the Doman and Ala Mhigan military dictatorships. The rich and poor seem to be getting along during the reconstruction. Lord Hien isn't on the run or a victim of his own people yet.
Ok then https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HaQPtUUSH1Y warrior, its not about the hundred fist, its about kraken club being able to hit 8hits & also, nowaday most jobs with multiple different weapons can all solo skillchain constantly nowaday, minus samurai that can do like 10+ weaponskills in a row for a total of 5 light sc+ with the 1hour ability (yes 1hour not 2 like in the old days) most none native tp builder classes can now provide enough swings & trigger points in a 3seconds frame to skillchain by themselves. so no come on now, the game is not slow & imo its following true bases of an FF game.
Not telling you to, it was a suggestion & a recommendation that I give from my own liking of the game.
All im saying is that there is a lot of variables & that, no it is not just 1 weapon & no it is not just an ability, there is magical buffs & choices of gears + knowledge of battles as a general statement, no a lv.1 cannot do this, but a well knowledgable lv.99 player can with the worst 119 gears if they are used properly.
I know that in the end we would have to fight but imo it would feel better for me if we at least try to find out more about Ascians and the real important things instead of just finding some clues randomly along the way. Maybe they could have started SB with us refusing to join the rebels and going around to find a solution to a problem that was hinted by the WoD. Maybe even going out and trying to find the truth in all of this. While we do that the alliance suffers some losses and we see thanks to the echo what happens when Zenos comes in. Maybe along the way we find out that we need to stop this conflict because it could lead to bigger ones and thus calamities and then we take part in this. This way it feels a little less forced, at least for me.
I totally understand your direction there. I suppose it's a personal matter. Imagining myself in place of my character I would likely 'go with the flow' as she does because the idea of opposing all of the people directing us towards Ala Mhigo and Doma is intimidating.
Perhaps for a more assertive or solitary person your perspective might make more sense. I would certainly admire a WoL who made those sorts of choices - it's a sort if classical heroism... it just isn't how I would imagine Moro behaving.
I suppose they can't cater to all personality types and decision making styles.
You are right with that and maybe I am just a bit annoyed by it because we just had ended a thousand years old war, had lost quite some friends (depending on your own view) and lets not forget all the pain that we suffered when we were betrayed at the end of 2.5. Maybe it would have been less like that if we had an expansion between it where we would just be adventurers, maybe even without certain NPCs to catch a bit of a breath and maybe with the intention of learning more about the world and its past. This way it just dont feel like war after war. I mean 5.0 seems to hint at Garlemald and that will probably end in another war.
This post has spoilers for current msq, don't read if you don't want them.
Well as I said earlier in another post I feel like as the WoL we are obligated to be using our power for something. An expansion where we just get to explore and learn about the world is also an expansion where things like the oppression by Garlemald and the scheming of the Ascians is left to fester.
I think at the start of 5.0 we are left with two primary directions - continue our assault on the Garleans or contend with the new Ascian plot. It's hard to tell at this point since we still have at least 4.4 and 4.5 msq additions coming but we are likely either pursuing 'the Elezen' or attempting to rescue Alphinaud.
I think we may see more of Zenos in SB and then head into The Burn come 5.0 if only because it seems incredibly unlikely they're adding a-new area outside of an expansion. If the pursuit of Alphie is delayed then Zenos is the obvious next step.
I will say this has been some of my favorite parts of the story since HW. It feels like we're growing up as a character and getting ready to face some of the true antagonists instead of getting bogged down in things like Ishgardian politics and Alliance drama.
Overall as much as it might be fun to have time to roam I don't think in our current situation it's the responsible thing for us to do, though I'll grant that perhaps I would feel differently if I wasn't constantly (in terms of the msq) thinking about all of these looming threats.
It would be great if the Garleans ends up absent in the next expansion. Just a smaller scale adventure in Koshu where the WoL gets more character focus/development would be a breathe of fresh air. This is one of the reasons I loved HW so much (I even have a framed poster on my wall), is that to start with, it shrank the character focus to just the WoL, Alphinaud and Tataru. Even though they got involved in the Dragonsong War, because they were never truly allied with Ishgard, to story remained focused. As a player, it really felt like I was affecting the plot and the fate of the people of Ishgard. And as a nice touch, HW ends with just the WoL, Alphinaud and Tataru at Haurchefant's grave sharing a nice character moment as the credits roll.
I miss that. In Stormblood, I feel too much like the Scion's henchman, Lyse's henchman and Lord Hien's henchman. It would be great to just hit the road with just a few character and have some trials and tribulations.
There needs to be more of this:

And much less of this:

How many Imperials have I already killed now? Dozens? Hundreds? Thousands?
From one reckoning to the next...to the next...to the next...to the next.
It would be a waste not to do Garlemald now. The landmass is there looking pretty and once you get through to 5.X whatever the last part is it means we can actually move onto something a little bit more novel, experimental and therefore in my opinion interesting.
Bad part about going to Garlemald is that I feel that Othard will be abandoned now and we won't go back ever again. We basically explored a tiny piece of a continent and that'll probably be it...
With all the maps just being big open spaces/wastelands, I feel like I don't really know anything about what Othard has in it, unlike Eorzea. I really hope we flesh out Othard and Garlemald as much as we did Eorzea.
So you want to be able to spend time in Eureka and get comparable level gear as someone who raids. That's fine. In that case if I spend 100s of hours roleplaying in Limsa should I not be entitled to someone such as yourself who spends 100s of hours grinding Eureka? If I spend 100s of hours decorating my house or chatting with my FC mates should I be rewarded 375 raid gear? By your logic, I spend the same amount of time so I should get the same level rewards.
This game actually is very casual friendly. You can get i360 gear without doing any raids and it is almost the same level as 370 gear. Go play other games and the non-raiding gear is significantly worse than raid gear. FFXIV is known for being very casual friendly and very generous in terms of giving top gear to casual non-raiding players. That's why it kills me when I see people complain.
So why not just give everyone a set of 375 gear the moment their character is created? If you don't want to give people better gear because they cleared harder content then why have savage raids, trials, or dungeons? Let's just create a toon at level 70 with bis gear and we can all just roleplay and buy glamour from the cash shop. This way you will get your dream of getting top gear by doing Eureka and I can get my top level bis gear by chatting with my FC mates and doing dance emotes all day long at Limsa.
I want to make sure I'm understanding this.
Are you asking why raid gear that's given by completing the hardest fights at the time, is better than non raid gear?
If that's what you're asking that's because that's simply how mmorpgs work. You do the hard content to get the best gear which is more than fair. If you don't plan on raiding or doing anything that requires that tier of gear, why worry about it?
I haven't touching any raids this tier and I'm not worried about gear because I don't need it.
It's actually not, eureka is a place to get good gear. Raid is a place to get -the best gear- what they're saying is that you can't expect to do casual content and get raid style gear. Again, reward in this game is directly proportional to effort. You might spend a week or so grinding in eureka, but raid content might take a group weeks or months to clear.
I was saying it's not a false analogy. I was saying there are levels of activities within the game with different reward structures each directly proportional to the effort that you invest in them. RP and decoration being pretty much just self fulfilment, crafting money, eureka to get good gear for casual players, raid to get the best kind of gear for the players who like a challenge.
I disagree. The game does not offer roleplaying a reward structures. It does not offer house decorating with reward structures except via contest hosted on the forums. And chatting with the FC does not have a reward structures either. Players engaging in these activities have no expectations of rewards from the game, especially good gear.
For playing since the beginning, I come up to say that; at the end, everything is just an achievement for glamour. (Redo Glamour system again please. So many better examples out there.)
Some people like max ilv, but can't raid. I always see the ilv formula in this game as... Release max ilv at beginning of tier, then catch up on the following next patch. Won't be able to min-max everything, unless you do raids.
The whole thing is a vertical progression. I don't think they have enough assets or time to do a horizontal progression. On second thought, they could add a 3rd line of end max ilv gear to fix this, but assets.
Except, it isn't. The person quoted specified a time investment. But for argument's sake, normal mode raids, EX Primals and even dungeons offer decent gear. Replace any one of them with the aforementioned roleplay example and their point still stands; you aren't partaking in the most difficult content. Therefore, you aren't entitled to the best rewards.
Now you're contradicting yourself. Per your own words, roleplaying and chatting aren't equal to Eureka because they don't offer a reward structure. The sightseeing log falls under those same perimeters. Therefore, we can only compare battle related content. In that context, it's object fact Savage is the most difficult content in the game. Hence why it offers the best gear based rewards. And before you going bringing up Ultimate. That exists solely for the challenge. The reward is simply clearing it.
Tbh I can't believe we are 32 pages in and this person still doesn't understand why raiders get the gear we do.
Apparently not since previous posters have pointed out that gear doesn't truly matter and the real worth of a player is skill. The reward for raiding could be as simple as getting a shiny new achievement checked off in the log and people would still do it. And it would a paradox if raiders needed the end raid reward to beat the raid. That raid gear is only in effect a participation ribbon, so it's purely superfluous.

I mean we were not chosen by Hydaelyn to defeat Garlemald but to defeat the Ascians and end their threat and I do question if we do enough for that part. For me it feels more like we are taking care of mortal conflicts and just find out that an Ascian is behind it and not trying to find the Ascians and deal with them. So we could still have a expansion were we try to find out more about them, maybe even stopping some of their plans and still be more of a adventurer. I mean even without a war we still can help people with our power.
But thats probably all subjective and I fear that we are just starting another war in the next one. My poor WoL will have a crisis if that stress is going on and on. x)'
