It's aimed more at the people whose only reason for teleport removal is "It's spoiling the game" - and there have been several who have said that. It's not spoiling anything because it's optional. Sometimes I choose to Chocobo from Mist to Limsa just so I can enjoy the scenery. On the occasions I can't be arsed with that I can Return or Teleport. In 1.0 I chose to Chocobo from Gridania to Ul'dah because it was an immersion rich, enjoyable gaming experience. But, again, on the occasions I couldn't be bothered I'd just teleport.
Taking that choice away would be very harsh on anyone who likes the teleports because nobody is being forced to use them. Those who are anti-port can simply not use them and go about their business. On the other hand, if you take the teleports away, you're removing the choice from one side, to appease the other side who have that choice anyway. It just makes zero sense. I appreciate it's not personal to those who do like to teleport, but they would take it that way if a very small minority of people got them removed - and quite rightly. There is no logical reason to remove ports to appease people who can simply choose not to use them anyway.
And I honestly believe hunts are overcrowded by design. Teleportation is merely a catalyst for this. Hunts would still be overcrowded even if people had to Airship or Chocobo everywhere, you'd just be more likely to find an unclaimed B Rank because nobody would bother with them.
