Then comes week two, on that tuesday you do your roulettes for 610 + your void ark + 50 plus your midas + 160 = anotehr 820 to finish off your last half + your CT runs. So boom, you've got it in 8 days.

Level 60 roulette average 146, so close enough on that. I don't know about other data centers but, since the introduction of the Feast, Frontline roulette queues on Primal are at least an hour, if they pop at all, so I skipped it when doing my math.

Skipping Frontlines gives us 566 per day, for 3962 per week. Adding the raids brings that to 4172.

Adding the second week's raids brings it to 4382, leaving 1018 remaining. Two more days of roulettes would get you there.

All that said, my point was more that I'd be surprised if most people are doing expert, level 60, level 50, leveling, and trial roulette every single day. This reddit thread certainly suggests they're not.

If you assume a fairly quick 20 minutes per run for the dungeons, that's almost an hour and a half just in the instances. It's likely longer than that, and if you're a DPS you can add queue times on top of it. A lot of the people in that thread are saying they only play for a few hours a night, so that would essentially be almost the entirety of their play time.

I am on Primal, but I skip frontlines - this is made up pretty easily by the fact I do hunts. People could get esos via Feast too if they wanted.

The main point is, it's very easy and quick to get with little to no grinding - and can be obtained in 8 days quite easily.

That is fair, I normally skip roulettes but will be doing them. So in that sense, you are right - it's not what I would be doing anyway. I more meant that it's not this odd thing, like running Alex 1 200x. It's just your basic roulettes to speed it up, or your basic activities to get it.

20 minutes per run I think is a good average. I'd say:
50 roulette = 16 minutes
60 roulette = 15 minutes
leveling roulette = 30 minutes
expert roulette = 20 minutes
Trial roulette = 10 minutes

These estimates are based off what I usually encounter, and I often encounter bad DPS - it's made up by me DPSing a lot as a SCH though. As you said, it's 1.5 hours in instances - but that doesn't sound odd to me. This game has virtually no content outside of instances - for me I do hunts/beast tribes, but that doesn't take long.

I guess I only consider it a grind if you do the same thing over and over and over. For example, running Alex 1 200x - killing the same mob over and over - running the same trial over and over. Roulettes give you a different dungeon, so you'd be doing 1.5 hours of varied content a total of 8x.

I think it's fair to say a lot of people were overwhelmed at the start of the 210 relic phase that they just said "Nope."

For one, it looked like a ridiculous amount of work versus the time they had in game. For another, it could've just been a protest for something they perceived as "not fun or interesting" (running the same content we'd been running since HW came out, rather than some new mechanic, probably did it for a lot of people).

A fun thought-experiment I've had is what SE would've done if the majority of the player base just sat on their hands in protest, rather than attempt the relic.

The 210 relic did get nerfed in a sense. The crafted items are no longer specialist locked since 3.2.

Given how long it normally takes them to improve content that people aren't engaging in, if they even do anything, I suspect not much differently than they already have.

Just look at Diadem, which obviously involved a huge amount of work, but that's been mostly ignored by most of the player base since the nerf at the end of November. They made it a little more appealing with 3.2 and the reduced prices (though it's still been more-or-less empty any time I've been in there), but by and large it looks like they're content to wait until the next iteration of it in 3.3, rather than doing anything to fix what we already have.

The crafted items certainly weren't insignificant, but most of the people that gave up on it likely never even got to that point of the process.

I raid, and I think that the current relic stage is a huge step up from previous.

I'd like to see more substance of the whole thing (a more involved story, challenging content) - but I get that isn't really what the relic is about. Accepting that, I think this level of grind in 2.3 is appropriate.

That is impressive :) I am almost done my 2nd 210, so four is a good feat for sure. Most of my friends are still finishing their first.

Yeah, I really wish there was a class relevant story to the relics, but that would be a huge resource investment. I guess I wish they had the budget for it...

I fully understand what it is, a tool for the devs to keep old content going, I would love it if they could be a little less blatant about it though.

Tbh, the 210 step wasn't as bad as I originally thought it would be, and the ability to do it while leveling other classes as well is a big bonus to the new relic chain. I can level via beast tribes,( or fates for the first step), or work toward my tank mounts in Gordias, and that takes.a huge negative of the first chain away from me.

Also, I'm fine with Raid weapons being more powerful, but I really don't think the Tomestone weapon should be as powerful as the relic. Something like 240/245/250 for Tome/Relic/Raid, or even 240/243/245 if the other numbers are to big for people.

I have pretty mixed feelings about it, but it's hard to separate out the sour taste that the i210 stage left in my mouth from everything associated with raiding in 3.0/3.1 that left a sour taste in my mouth.

On the one hand, SE have stated outright that their intention is that the anima weapons won't (with the exception of 3.1, where they've been clear that they feel like they made mistakes with the itemization of weapons) be as strong as the best weapons you can get from clearing the hardest content.

On the other hand, it's clear that there are going to be times when the anima weapon may be the superior choice if you're not on the cutting edge of clearing the raid content.

On the other other hand, the anima weapon, due almost entirely to the i210 step, is a substantial amount of additional work for what's a very marginal increase.

Personally, I took a break from XIV for over a month leading up to 3.2, so I'm lagging behind. I'm working on mine, is as much as I'm doing beast tribe quests for the Grade IV materia anyway and whatever poetics and esoterics I'm earning are going into it (and I'll be doing the CT quest weekly, now that that's been added), but I'm not going out of my way to do additional content to get through the third step.

At the end of the day it doesn't matter, There are like 5 different weapon choices depending on how much you play or how you want to play the game. Esoteric weapon, Lore Weapon, Primal weapons, Relic Weapons, and Raid weapons. Just pick one and stop complaining. What we do know is in 3.3 the relic will be able to be upgraded without raiding.. What we don't know is whether or not you can upgrade the lore weapon in 3.3 without raiding, so theres a bit of a risk by picking the easiest option. Just pick the weapon you want and go get it.

Asking SE to shoehorn everyone into the same gear path will make the game less fun, not more fun. Yes lore weapons are easy to get, they are there for people that can't play that much... Raid weapons and Relic weapons are for people with a bit more time to play. I chose to get 2 relic weapons and use the 2000 lore tomes for armor. That's my choice, doesn't mean everyone has to do the same thing.

outside of savage name one piece of content that can't be beaten with a esoteric weapon? I'll wait...... Yes, eso is the easiest but weakest option but should also be the first wpn you pick up once you hit lvl 60, its still a valid weapon.

EDIT: I wouldnt be surprise if in 3.3 the next warring triad weapon is ilvl 230, then everyone will be saying "ah man, the lore weapons is crap. Totally not worth it bro, primal weapon is easier"

I mean if we want to exclude content, we can just say all the weapons are valid. let's include law, poetics, soldiery, shiva, etc. etc.. I mean they can do some content.

I can even do the current expert roulettes with an i90 weapon if I wanted - and succeed.

Yes, every patch they release new ways to obtain the current/past ilvl weapon either faster or easier and/or add higher ilvl weapons that is the new one to get. That is how they've been doing it for years and is the nature of vertical progression.

EDIT: I wouldn't be surprised if in the next patch they added more content and possibly 2 dungeons

It doesn't matter what can and can't be beat with it, it is a previous tier weapon, you don't put it on the same level as the new version of it. That is the Lore weapons place.

Also next triad will be at least 235.

For someone who can't clear or hasn't yet cleared Sephirot Extreme or invested the necessary time to complete a relic (which is a substantial portion of the player base), the esoterics weapon is (until at least next week) their best available option. The same is not true of the Law, Poetics, etc. weapons.

That isn't the point, the point is that the Lore weapon is the weapon of this tier alongside the relic/raid. Esoterics is the last tier weapon which can be used until you catch up to this tier.

Most people don't even have a i210 anima though. It wouldn't surprise me if there are more people with Sephirot weapons. That's certainly the case among the people I know.

That's what the "invested the necessary time to complete a relic" in the section you quoted was attempting to convey.

For what's likely the majority of the player base, the upgraded esoterics weapon is likely the best weapon they have (or have access to) until at least next week.

What Whocareswhatmynameis was that the esoterics weapon is currently a valid weapon choice. At no point did he or she say that it was a final goal to aim for.

Given the number of people who are currently using them, I'm not sure I see what the problem with his or her statement was.

Can you link where most people don't have one, almost everyone I run into on that tier has one. I have 2.5 of them without much effort, multiple people in my FC have 2-3 of them.

Unfortunately, there's no easy way to query the Lodestone for achievements, so no, I can't provide anything empirical.

But to counter your anecdotal evidence with my own anecdotal evidence, almost no one I run into has one, and the majority of people in my FC haven't completed even one (and I don't think anyone's finished multiples).

Edit: Closest I can find to actual evidence is this Straw Poll, which suggests that only 45% of players responded even intended to complete one on a casual basis.

I suspect people were directed to the poll via either reddit or the official forums, which likely means they're already a less casual subset of the player base than any random slice would be, meaning they're probably also more likely than your average player to work on something that requires a time commitment on the scale of the anima weapons. But that's just speculation on my part.

I accept your premise and I guess I misunderstood and figured you meant the current tier of weapons - and for a weapon to work towards.

Setting aside my personal experiences, I didn't think it was a very large leap of logic to figure that the majority of the player base, based on the general design of the game, clear rates for difficult content, and adjustments that have been made even to content that wasn't particularly challenging (e.g. Steps of Fate) is very casual, and likely to not invest themselves in a process that's fifty hours long at an absolute minimum. Never mind the overwhelming amount of feedback on the matter that can be seen here, on reddit, or anywhere else around the internet.

Bear in mind that when SE originally provided the graphic with the number of people that had cleared Gordias normal, they mentioned that it was about 50% of the active players. If half the player base isn't even doing that, I think it's a pretty safe assumption that they're not finishing an Anima weapon.

I don't see grinding as an issue, I know it's extreme and hard... but, the real problem is what we get in return. Yes, you can't upgrade tome weapons, only once. But by the time people finish on relic weapon, there will be another tome weapon which is easily acquired and superior to current relic. To be honest, relic suppose to be unique and desirable... that's what developers said themselves. We should be able to customize it somehow.. or give it proc ability based on job. BLM for example: 10% chance on offensive cast, you gain 50 INT for 10 seconds etc.

Yeah I only ran some A1 and A4. Hunts were a huge portion of them. Second on I got in the habit of queuing titan/ifrit/ruda/shiva hm for new bonus fishing. That was quick poets.

Im doing this as well for shells, since I can use seals for bones and seeds. I am running a3 for the ore also. Combing methods seems to be the best bet.

Revisiting this - for both those who haven't finished, and those who have (and/or have multiple or are working on multiple now), what is your experience with the crafting side of it? A lot of the discussion has been about the tokens in general, or the overall process in general terms, but this particular part of that step seems like it could have the biggest variance and I'm curious what everyone's experiences with it so far are?

My experience is that it is rather easy and easily the worst part of it from a design perspective. It is the only aspect of it that actually infuriates me, as opposed to just frustrates me.

I had someone I know make them. Wasn't cheap (although well below marketboard prices) because I didn't provide mats but then again I have no trouble making money with my gatherers fully leveled and in red scrip gear. I've had 3 sets made with 3 Anima's and I'd have another if the eso tomes weren't needed elsewhere. It does appear that prices haven't moderated that much with the loss of specialization. Perhaps by the time I do my bow they will have.

I did my relics by doing all the roulettes each day, beast tribes and hunts. I had/have a number of Zeta's so I didn't need to farm crystals which I might do on an alt cause she has 13/13/4/4 unidentified items and that's just from doing dailies with her. I have nothing else to do with her tomes other that possibly buy tome items to sell. I prefer at the moment at least to get the relic items when I can. I grabbed the towers quest this morning cause the aether oils are so easy to get and that stage is a given if you're not in a rush. I could use the music from those venue's as well.

wasn't cheap but then again i bought some of it straight off the mb
