Sure, it's reality. I tell people that all the time with other games and franchises like Zelda. I like BotW and I like old Zelda gameplay and dungeon design. BotW sells more, it's just business.
Guilty Gear Strive sells well, it's just business. I have praises and gripes. I prefer +R. I can go play +R, I can boot up Ocarina of Time.
I can't play old versions of FFXIV. FFXIV is my favorite game.
Even if I'm in the niche, and my opinion rubs others the wrong way, I'd like to go to bat for my favorite game and hold out for the chance to see design that isn't afraid to be something.
Games made for everyone are made for no one.
FFXIV increasingly feels like one of those games and I don't like it.
If your only response is "well the bottom line" or "go play something else" then I hope I've sufficiently replied to those already with my above statements. I don't care and no thank you.
