You know what's a great feature they added in SHB that lets people explore an instance and appreciate all the fine details, music, etc at their leisure without being a hindrance to their party by slowing it down?

Explorer mode. Now compatible with all but ARR's dungeons for your slow delectation!

There's basically only one situation when taking it slow should even remotely be an option, and that's if the healer &/or tank are new to an instance or if the majority wants to go slow. And if you happen to be a WAR who has access to Bloodwhetting, then the healer is nullified from the equation anyway.

Because it's the tank's job to decide the pace of the dungeon. Just like the DPS can decide the pace that the enemies are killed by single-targeting. The healer's job is just to heal come what may.

I'd be willing to bet the same people trying to speed through everything are the same ones who complain about not having anything to do in game. Speed being "the standard" will only keep dungeons in the state that they are and keep the devs away from changing them up. Folks claim they want branching dungeons that are unique but also just want to brute force speed them all. Makes no sense

And they can only soak the damage with mits and self heals if they pull enemies. It stands to reason that they have to navigate to those enemies first. It's generally accepted that a tank pulls those enemies because if someone else does, the enemies will probably kill them. So we have established that it is the tank's job to navigate to the enemies and that it is also the tank's job to pull them. Saying the tank should ask permission to do their job is like saying a healer should ask permission to heal or that a DPS should ask permission to DPS.

A competent group run together , decent dps will know when a tank will land its aoe and then begin to dps . a healer that's competent will pre shield , or regen , the tank will then pop a mit if needed straight away or continue to use aoe into special moves more mits or heals as will the dps for their part as will the healer for theirs

No one is the leader and the pace should be set by the party for both reasons, all want to go quick because they are capable and can manage it , and paces should be adjusted if competent players notice their are some weak links , either from inexperience or skill level and there's nothing wrong with players that are a bit slower not all can be hot on the keys/pad . The lazys that zero dps as a healer or no aoe as a dps can sod right off mind.

Permission? That's not what this is about. Soaking damage =/= setting the pace for the dungeon. And every party member has a right to set that pace in a way(but you didn't quote that did you, shame). After all, the Healer should have input for how much of a pull they can handle or want to handle. The DPS should also have an input for the same as if pulls take too long the party will wipe regardless.

Also random note about your comment above, but I'm pretty sure people have been reported before for using single target skills on mobs in end game dungeons because there's very little reason for it and you're mostly likely griefing/trolling.

In 7 years of tanking and almost 10,000 instances I've never met a party that wanted me to go slower. Their body language - emotes, running, jumping repeatedly, continuing to heal or run ahead if I stop, suggest they are content. Even sprout healers never have much of a problem. I've met undergeared sprout healers or healers that struggle to keep up with me, but I survive long enough so it's fine and they don't seem to have a problem.

One of my best experiences as a new healer came in I think it was the Quarn dungeon (the one with the bees). I ended up healing it as my 2nd dungeon (converted my existing summoner to scholar so started already 60 :P ). I warned the group I was newish at healing. Tank said to me ok we will start with 2 group pulls and see how it goes. A little later he said you wanna try bigger pulls? I said I could try. He said no worries if its to much we back down again. We got through the dungeon with no problems and I will forever remember his kindness.

When I'm heals, I'm okay with whatever pace the tank sets ...

.. even when they run out of my range, turn a corner and LoS me, or both, and everyone dies as a result.

It's all part of the fun of Duty Finder, and while I enjoy a good fast W2W pull as much as anyone, I'm not in any hurry. Go slow or wipe fast on the trash mobs, it's fine.

A healer has no idea how much of a pull they can handle unless they know the group, or at least the tank. For example, I've had tanks that needed constant healing for two-group pulls, and others that successfully pulled W2W with just Cardia.

So you figure it out, tacitly as you go, the tank getting a feel for the healer and the healer getting a feel for the tank.

Sometimes that means you wipe, but the only way to learn limits is to exceed them.

Oh i only pull one at a time if we wipe during a large pull and the heals didn't do anything to help. Can't tell you the amount of times healers think a regen is gunna save me during a mass pull.

Ever since Stormblood, dungeons became even simpler to tank and even before then they still did not do a lot of damage. Maybe Mt.Gulg I could understand being scary for new players to pull big on. But generally, pulling one pack at a time is the mark of a bad tank that needs to push past their comfort zone to get better, or never do that and be invited to play another role. EW dungeons especially deal no damage and are a chore to go through at such a pace. DPS wont have big packs to kill, healer wont have damage to heal.

Maybe these people are still learning and don't want to tank more than their comfort zone? If you have such a issue with them go in with a pre-made and pull as much as you like

What's so professional and elite about moving until you can't anymore? Really, tank is the role I never played until FFXIV and never, ever did I think "hmm, so pulling small somehow makes my life easy". Can't get lost in SB+ dungeons. The healer is responsible for watching your health from the occasional auto attack that you take on the way. You press the exact same defensives in order, exact same AoE, and at most the healer will need to focus more.

There are 0 excuses to not pull at least 2 packs at a time.
The mobs borderline do not deal damage and it only becomes the slightest bit of concerning when its 3-4 packs together, and even then you just rotate through mitigations and they are back up once the boss dies. If people panic over losing 10% of their health maybe they shouldn't tank or make a premade where they are expected to be mentored through the process.

For those saying stuff lke: how can I tank from ARR, my main class is not a tank and I only started tanking in x expansion:
it doesn't matter what expansion yu started in, what class you leveleld through story etc. You'll still have to start levelling from level 1, and go through all/a good part of ARR dungeons first, to level. Unless you start levelling as GNB directly, which is certainly not advised if you're someone who needs to learn tanking altogether and is scared. There are plenty of training wheels levels, and training wheels are fine, but at some point they'll have to come off, you can't ride your tank bike with training wheels forever.
Same as say for new AST playrs it's fine not to do cards at first and just focus on healing, and only do cards in calmer moments, but at some point pretty soon they'll have to start doing cards.

Actually says that, not any lame "this general statement means this specific thing for no better reason than I want it to" nonsense. Being cautious is not griefing. Hell, going AFK to answer the door or take a poop isn't griefing, it's just part of life when you queue with random strangers.

And as other have stated, if you want to dictate how the tank behaves in a DF party, queue as a tank.

What? The TOS or afking for completely unerelated reasons have nothing to do with what people are talking about here. Of course you can single pull packs. Doesn't mean people can't call you out for playing badly. In fact, a DPS that kites the pack and is hard focused by the healer can survive. So whats the purpose of a tank that cant handle more than what a DPS can? Enabling bad play won't help these players get better. Quite the contrary.

I don't know I run a lot of content with my main and many alts and a single pulling tank is pretty rare in my experience.

Actually, it may mean exactly that: calling someone out for behavior that is within the TOS sounds like TOS-violating harassment.

Telling the tank that they have mitigation and could pull more is not harassment and will not be punished because it is not a bad faith advice. If the tank refuses to play properly I just roll my eyes and accept the waste of time.

Some people are so bad they cant keep track of that many buttons. It is what it is. Just like calling out bad DPS is useless, if they were capable of doing more dps they would be already.

Yeah but I think it falls on the more experienced players to educate sprouts about their resources and how to use them. Just be polite about it and they will probably listen. Probably..

The sprouts that act violent against people that are trying to help them, those that enable that behavior, are actually quite toxic as it becomes undermining the group's efforts on purpose.

Actually players have been reported for giving “unsolicited” advice. I’m certain you can find many examples here or Reddit.

As for the pulling, it was the “community” that made such a decision based on how the new dungeons are comprised of mobs down a path stopped by a wall. Kill mobs, barrier or wall disappears.
