Why are white mages allergic to regen?

If I am Glare spamming as opposed to Raising you - it is usually because Swiftcast is on cooldown and at that point - the short casting Glare is actually better for overall group DPS than trying to slow cast a Raise only to have to move because RNGesus is throwing pie plates at me to dodge.

If you're in the dirt for extended time - was there multiple people in the dirt? Healer may have prioritized other party members for their Swiftcast + Raise, thus making you "feel" ignored.

Generally, the only time I let someone rot in the dirt is because I'm tired of raising them and rotting is actually better for the group continuity (or it is simply faster to return to the start and shortcut back to the group).

Also: who said healing is only about oGCD healing while casting spells?! Who said that?! HOW WILL I FEED MY BLOOD LILIES! :D That's about the only on-GCD curing that I use now... splashed in with Regens during times I have to move.

I have found that even when you think there is no possible way for people to die, they will find a way to take damage and die. It's less "I don't trust everyone else to do the next mechanic right and not kill themselves" as it is "I don't trust everyone else to not die, even if it doesn't seem like it should be possible for that to happen".

Death always finds a way. But I admire your optimism in believing that other people are always competent.

Nope I was the only one down. And I am also a rdm, I could actually help with raises if everyone goes face down. It's just a glaring case of tunnel vision,

Okay, yes you had one bad experience with a healer who'd rather Glare his enemies to death than raise you.
Bad luck, happens, move on. No need to make a huge issue out of this as if every healer does this. If you died indeed for the lack of healing AND he had left you lying on the ground for 1/3 of the fight, he was bad and that's it.

But usually when a dps drops and isn't immediately ressed, there's a good reason for it:
1. Swiftcast on CD but will come off CD soon (as in next ~10sec). Hardcasting Raise is a royal pain the butt.
2. Huge-ass aoe coming right up, chances are too high he immediately tanks the floor again
3. The dps is such a scrub that raising him is neither worth the time nor MP because he'll die again pretty soon
4. MP are supertight for whatever reason and LD/ TA etc is on CD. Better play safe and get back into healthier MP numbers until you use 1/4 of your MP.
5. The player is laying on the other end of the world and it will take some time until a healer reached him without eating a mechanic
6. He fell of a plattform. Don't fall of platforms.

That's actually kind of terrible considering they've done a lot to make sure every healer was given more tools to heal with this expansion. It also tells me the game needs more tickle damage. Didn't sign up to heal so i could spend all day spamming broil/glare/malefic

And how often does that actually happen in DF? Every time I've run Eden so far as healer, especially e4, I've been having to throw tons of raises and would be *sunk* without a cohealer that actually pulls his weight and doesn't just DPS constantly.

People need to realize that just because dedicated raid groups might play a fight over and over to the point they've mastered it and can avoid taking all avoidable damage and can therefore plan their healing specifically around the unavoidable damage, that's an unrealistic ideal to hold randoms to. Temper your expectations, to put it simply.

Those labels haven't really meant anything concrete; they're just naming schemes. All "expert" means is "currently highest ilvl required dungeons", for instance. It doesn't necessarily say anything about their relative level of difficulty.

It has nothing to do with me being optimistic lol. They can not die during this phase period, there is not even a platform to jump off. They can literally stand up and AFK and nothing will hit them.

I never said a second healer wasn't convenient, especially when people are inexperienced. But when it *can* be solo healed with minimal GCD healing, it's a problem. Most of the initial Eden Titan deaths aren't even from damage. Once several people die, everyone has to play catch up, and a poorly timed rez acception can be lethal due to additional knockoffs or AoE damage before they can be healed up.

If a tank and healer are alive, the fight can be 2 manned, it would just take a long time. If Titan had an enrage timer, I imagine that the clear rate would be awful and there would be abandons after 1 or 2 wipes. This probably shouldn't happen for DF, but it's a problem when the biggest struggle for a healer is rezzing people.

Considering how annoying it is to go through a 25 minute titan with multiple healer lb3s they really should put an engage on him. If it takes more than one you earned a wipe rather than a clear anyway.

Why is it a "problem" for seasoned, experienced groups to be able to more easily handle a fight, especially a "story mode" fight that isn't even supposed to be particularly difficult? It doesn't change the fact most PUG groups aren't of that caliber.

The only "problem" here is when people assume that just because their raid groups can follow mechanics with no mishaps, everyone else should be able to as well.

Glad you read my whole post. Did you miss the whole part about a tank and a healer can literally clear Titan themselves? Healer MP is inconsequential, with the exception of casting multiple rezzes in a short time span. On Titania, groups don't even care about the frost runes, because it doesn't matter. If you read one of my previous posts, 1 healer can literally tunnel heal a tank with Cure/Physick/Benefic on Innocence while having oGCDs for raid errors. The second healer there can provide the oGCDs to fill the gaps from the first. After pretty much 2 vulnerability, whomever has it will be dead from the next hit. The opportunity to really heal is really diminished.

Having been a white mage since ARR I kind of have a WTF reaction because our HoTs have always been our bread and butter. Regen and Forget It is what has allowed us to dps in the past, since we could Largesse and Regen and then Holy spam.

The duration of our HoTs has been reduced in ShB so that's the only argument I could see for using actual heals.

I love my Regen. Love my Medica II and Asylum. I take full advantage of all my skills so that I can help DPS as much as comfortable.

I could ask, though, why are so many tanks allergic to using their CD's? Especially huge trash pulls.

I think its because currently WHM is doing great dps so many of them want to lad their parse by letting the other healer do most of the healing. As an AST I default to Noct when paired with a WHM but many of them never use a single regen, even when the tank is dropping to 30%. They still use ogcd healing skills but that it will run out especially with some people failing mechanics.

There is a reason why people are starting to call whm Glare mages. If they use any GCD heal its a hit to their dps so they are avoiding it. Someone on another thread posted FFlogs for shb 4 mans and whm is at the bottom healing wise, but at the top on dmg. It really shows what whm has become a Burst healer who dps firsts heals second and only when needed. Ill lay a good bet whm will have the lowest hps in savage but highest dps out of all healers

Yeah, and WARs could solo Calofisteri. Seen it happen, too. It's what happens when you don't put a stack mechanic in the fight, and as far as I can remember Titan just so happens to not have one. This stuff obviously won't fly in Savage because everything will have an enrage timer, so meh.

It doesn't really matter in the long run, because the number of players who would attempt (and can accomplish) something like this aren't that great in number anyway, and even if they do try, they're likely to be told off by their party members for prolonging a fight to a ridiculous extreme instead of just wiping it and starting over. Everyone has had That Guy who tries to see how long he can stall the boss alone before he finally dies, even if everyone knows his efforts are futile. They're not heroic, they're annoying.

Actually it's because what usually happens is when people try to dodge it they get hit by 2 which actually might matter, so they figure why not just stay in the center, get hit by 1, and keep up optimal DPS to boot? Makes sense to me.

To me this isn't much different from tank LB3 on Byakko add. I don't see the "problem" here, it's just the smarter play.

It has been said many times the main reason you don't see WHM use regen/medica 2 in pug because it's pointless. The co-healers 9/10 time, heck make that 19/20 times will top over the ticks, essentially turn them into overheal. But I guess it's a psycology problem when the other healers see the regen tick they don't feel as if the WHM doesn't do anything, even if the ticks themselves do nothing.

And this is becoming a trend in this thread, so let take a step back in this discussion and look at a different angle:

- Are we here to talk about healers, and WHM specfically, of not doing their jobs?
- Or we are here to talk about how WHM are not dedicating every fiber of their being in covering other people failures?

I start feeling there seem to be a weird prejudice here, like "you're not really making any mistake yourself, but you are not doing enough to cover people mistake, so it becomes YOUR mistake". People seem to think because the collective failure is so great it should be just forgiven, and just heap the responsibility on a single point failure instead - aka the WHM?

I mean, it seems most people are telling healers (and WHM) that you're healing df, you have pug tanks and DPS, learn to adjust and do more ... then should it be unreasonable for the WHM to says the same? Something like: well, you're in DF and having pug healers, deal with it. I don't think so far in this entire thread I have seen a post where someone say "I do everything right and the healer still let me die", what exist in abundance however is the "I make mistake but it's not my fault I died, it's the WHM fault for not cover my mistake for me".

Short Answer: Afflatus skills
Long Answer: Afflatus skills. Often times a regen on an injured target overheals them where an afflatus skill both in single target and in AoE combined with Assize is enough to top people off without being wasteful. On top of that Afflatus skills pay for themselves in DPS since they build towards a damage skill with their usage. You pretty much always want to use them over Cure, Cure II, Regen, Medica and Medica II if you can help it and not a lot of damage is coming out back to back.

I* can say if I'm struggling to heal the tanks, I will look to Raise second to it (if Swiftcast isn'y up). But if any healer just DPSes and cares not for healing, I would kick them. /shrug Especially if they are forcing me to do it all and not helping (I understand and know my limitations).

I’ll get a lot of flack for this but it’s because I have those afflatus skills. Tanks have so much HP/defence and I have my lilies sitting there with nothing to use them on. I like using Afflatus Misery because reasons. The defence options tanks have are great but I noticed tanks take such reduce damage and a lot of tanks I have been in parties with even in PF pull such little amount of enemies and there isn’t much damage going out in raids imo. Plus, I do not like overhealing. Afflatus skills are very potent and I need you to take damage so my Afflatus skills do not go to waste on overhealing. Then I can fire off Afflatus Misery, refresh dot if needed and continue to glare the enemy out or holy the cluster of enemies into the dirt.

Now if people are dead on the ground then I do my first job...HEAL accordingly and pick people up. If there is nothing happening and people are in fighting fit, then I want to have fun too and damage the enemies too. But it would be nice if tanks took a bit more damage so I make use of all healing abilities accordingly.

It happened last night in Dun Scaith again. Co-healer WHM was rarely throwing out Medica 2 at all. My brother who mains WHM but was on his SMN kept screaming at me about this co-healer of mine. He even rezzed people because this WHM just was so reluctant in doing his job. lmao

Anyway, I'm so glad people stigmatize AST as the weakest and shitty healer amongst the three because the baddies are moving onto WHM and ruin its name instead. :D

One cast of Medica II has a total healing potency of 700 over 15s though. Assize is an instant 400, and Asylum is 800 over 24s. Neither of these have a cast time, cost nor incur the GCD. In Dun Scaith there really isn't much raid damage happening, especially to the point where the free heals couldn't cover it.

The real question is: if you're running Dun Scaith why would you even need the WHM to do "any" Medica 2 at all? In fact, if in a Dun Scaith run and your party get to a point of relying medica 2 to stay alive ... I would honestly question what the party is doing instead of the WHM.

I envy all you people with parties that actually stand close enough to all be healed with Asylum, because as far as I'm concerned that's a total pipe dream and therefore it's silly to really count Asylum as a proper "AoE heal". I mean, Cure 3 is technically an AoE heal too, but we all know how impractical that spell often is for anything other than stack mechanics...

A lot of bosses are too big for Asylum to even reach both the tank and the people stacked behind the boss; the bubble is just too small. If they all got right up in the enemy's business, then maybe, but again... pipe dream. (It also can make it much more difficult for people to dodge point blank AoEs.)

The real question is, how could you expect people play perfectly every time on DF?

Whatever happened to the mindset of healer that we will do everything to prevent the group's health to fall low no matter how "ineffective" it is?

Isn't overhealing some kind of negative used as ammunition to label healers as scrubs? If you all enjoy your parses and logs then you should also enjoy the results; where people all play specifically towards what will look best on a spreadsheet, as opposed to what would actually be best for the run.

Sorry I was talking mainly about Ex trials. I co-heal with WHM that don't Regen on the MT so I'm not talking about Over heals. What gets me is that you get people saying "Just ogcd heals is enough" but it actually isn't in this tier and the current gear. You try to keep a tank alive with just ogcds and he'll die from autos.

Many times the "just ogcd is enough" mentality just pushes the healing onto your co-healer and if your co-healer is an AST in Noct Sect then I feel sorry for them.

Had something weird happen today...

So I'm tanking, doing large pulls, when suddenly I keep losing aggro. I'm in tank stance, I'm AoEing, I know I'm hitting them...

Then suddenly, one of the breaks off and bee-lines for the White Mage.

I panick, click target, hurl my shield to get aggro back.

I'm struggling to control the battle while avoiding the zillion AoEs these dragons are dropping all around me. It's bad enough that I'm seeing overlapping cones into full circles.

Again... One more breaks off suddenly and bee-lines for the White Mage.

Once again I try to grab aggro back, but I just can't do it and dodge the AoEs. The run goes south. We wipe.

After I'm like, "Okay, what was that?"

The White Mage says, "Sorry, that was me. Regen. Your enmity means nothing. You've got to hit them after I cast it, in the AOE you weren't catching them all after I popped it due to dodging. I'll stop dropping it."

We had no further incidents.

I don't know if this is true, but that might have something to do with it.

These two statements are contradictory, because only one of them can be true.

I wonder if some people here are simply talk based on their experience from before this expack: but I will offer to make something clear:

- In ShB, as long as the tank is in tank stance and landed a hit on a target, it's pretty much impossible to pull hate off the tank. Unless:
- It's another tank taunting.
- It's another DPS that completely outgear the tank landing several big hit (i.e assembled Drill) while the tank "does not land" additional hit.

That's just how the new enmity system on the tank work, that's why they took away EVERY SINGLE enmity tool from every classes. Enmity is basically a solo task now, and in the presence of another tank, a coordinate task between 2 tanks. Once a tank land a hit in tank stance, nothing will steal the mob from him, not even an assembled Drill from MCH, not even a Crit from a BLM, and most definitely not from the pitiful enmity generated from a HOTs like regen/medicaII.

So if a tanks lose thread, there is only two answers "regardless of what you believe other wise":

- The tank missed and didn't hit the target.
- The tank was not in tank stance.

This is the absolute Truth under the new system they implement in ShB.

- You don't need to play "perfectly" in a place like Dun Scaith to "not" die. You just have to play not too "terrible".
- Since you used the word "co-healer", I assume you are one of the healer yourself. So let's me ask: were you struggling while healing with every fiber of your being, using every tools in your kits and yet it's still not enough to keep the party up? Depending on your answer, there are 2 conclusions:

+ If you say yes, then my original point stand. In a place like Dun Scaith even with just one healer doing it half-asleep would still be sufficient to cover the party, if you're telling me despite one healer going all out and still not enough ... then yes, it's the party that should be in question.
+ If you say no ... then isn't you and your brother (screaming like you said) were just acting a bit ... hysterical? Or is this the case of not seeing a Medica tick simply annoys you?

I'm far from being the type of "you don't move out of crap I'm not going to heal you" or "if you don't stand in my heal bubble it's your fault you die". I never expect people to play perfect, and I agree healer's job is to cover other mistake. Sure, if the scenario you are presenting happened in a place like Eden then maybe I agree. Because just one or two miss mechanic can kill you outright, but Dun Scaith?

Also, if you died once, I'll raise. You die twice, I'll raise you again. You die thrice ... maybe I'll raise you if Swift is up + I have MP to spare. But more than that? If someone reached a point where the healers decided it's better for them to just let you sleep on the floor while they use their time and MP on other things? If someone took the floor the 3 times or more, then they're not really in a position to question the healer's responsibility to raise them yet again, rather they should question their own responsibility of being an undue burden to the whole group.

By any chance are you playing sch? Bc this happens to me all the time in Innocent EX (not so much in Titania EX) with whms and I often go a full fight without seeing medica ii. My only thought is sch has so many off global cds heals that you CAN mostly heal that might without really having to dip into on global cds. Which I think is the over all theme as to why whms aren't applying regens bc there are so many other options that are quicker and allows them to go back to dps'ing especially if paired with a sch. Innocent EX is a bloody cakewalk with two schs lmao. Oh did damage happen? /smacks fairy and continue to broil.

Tank running in aggro Range from the Mobs,
Mobs saying "Hey look at this dancing Thing,let us kill and eat it first."

This is stupid because im not buffing with my Steps,
im only dancing.^^

Make Regen OGCD pls. And longer duration!!

Atm im just using Asylum Macro on tanks lol.

I've seen it time and time again, a tank will sprint to a pack and throw an AoE that misses 1 or 2 mobs and keeps going.

Most healers will do 1(or 2) of 3 things:
1. Begin cycling DoTs on each target.
2. Shield/Regen the tank while they are still running.
3. Nothing until the tank is done pulling.

If the 3rd is the case, the healer has to play catch up. Which can be a nightmare with tanks not properly using cooldowns.

As someone who plays every role, maining Gunbreaker, tanks make sure you have agro before running ahead. While moving to the next group, use the ranged attack or provoke to ensure that you have everything.

Whenever I'm on my White Mage, I'm usually using Regen on a tank right before any Holy spam.

Now that I think of it, I actually haven't been using Regen all that much these days. Just easier to rely more on lilies and oGCD heals.

When I’m in an 8 man scenario, I actively avoid using medica 2. I have this ocd thing when it comes to overhealing, and the vast majority of healers I’ve paired with waste my regens by topping the party off. I don’t like wasting my resources, so now I only use it if I’m solo healing.
