I wish instead of a black loading screen we got an acid trip CS like entering promyvion in XI. Seriously. The animation is lame. Any improvement would be greatly appreciated--especially if it tied into the lore. :(

Personally I think Anima did ruin the game somewhat, but it's not disastrous, I bet there's a better alternative out there or maybe a small tweak would do it. I just gets to be a bit knowing every measly adventurer could zip through space anytime from anywhere, at the cost of some strain on the soul. I know...it's in the "lore" but it's also a bit of a stretch.
Also, as it is right now teleporting is not a spell nor an acquired skill..it's a press of a menu button, that also took away the RPG feel to it somewhat.
In all fairness though, teleport shouldn't be restricted to a specific class. That too would take the fun away from some people, and maybe give rise to paid-tele service. So I understand why there are opposing voices here.
This is why I do respect you.
And I appreciate that you don't resort to name calling and personal attacks.
I am a very mediocre player and still naive when it comes to games, and it probably shows here on the forums.
But I have learned a lot from reading posts by people like you, who are much more skilled than I am -- even if our opinions may differ.
Group hug. ^^
I wish they'd keep anima but that it only worked when at an aetheryte.
I'm pretty sure the 15 minute cooldown on return would deter too much rapid warping in the way you are thinking. Hell they could even bring back the 1 anima cost for Return forcing people who want to be lazy to pay in armour durabillity.
Not saying it's what I'd do but it's a possabillity.
^ This. In an ideal world there would be an exp penalty, no return, and return like items (think PSO, how they had items that'd create a portal back into town that anyone could take for a limited time).
But I'd settle with having the aetherytes be the ones that warped us at cost for anima, and return on a timer as it is now. Maybe a higher timer.
Yeah bringing back the 1 mp cost would be sufficient probably in that case. I was taking the idea as intending to force travel to an aetherite before TP, but with return costing nothing, theres no point. People would just return to a crystal and TP anyways.
I don't care for the idea, as it reminds me too much of having to seek out a crystal to refill MP. Did not enjoy that very much, no sir.
Speaking for myself. The system is fine as it is. They should definitely add more creative and interesting means of transportation into the game but to remove what isn't broken per say (although perhaps not as grounded in Lore as some would like) is just silly. Leave it alone and focus on adding new things. Reinventing the wheel, yet again, is a waste of time and will likely not have a positive outcome while adding new things to the game and giving people more exciting and interesting alternatives likely will.
In short. Leave it alone, add new alternatives on top of what's already fine. You don't get rid of personal cars because taxis exist, and you don't get rid of taxis because buses exist. They all have their place.
I support the removal of this mechanic. It's not about "lore" or "laziness", it has to do specifically with the world.
In FFXI I saw so many people whilst traveling the world. It felt like an MMO because there were real people exploring and traveling. There weren't just the 1 passerby either. It was many.
FFXIV has everyone crowding the cities and just teleporting when they need to move. Whats the point of an open world if you never go out into it?
The whole point of this rant is; if FFXIV is an MMO, the world should reflect the MMO vibe. I have enough online RPGs that utilize a lobby system.
2 things ff11 had that ffxiv doesn't, people, and an interesting world to explore. this topic is for removal for 2.0 so hopefully that will fix those 2 things.
everyone wants mages to teleport like in 11. with class switching in 14 it will easily be more abused then anima so i hope your ready for that if it ever happens.
This is more of combination of suggestions I have seen:
- Remove the ability to teleport from anywhere, can only teleport between crystals.
- Keep the "return" teleport, 10 minute cooldown. There's no point in removing the return feature, people would just death-port anyway.
- Allow free teleport between crystals you have been to. Having a teleporting currency is just a pain.
I think that would be a fair compromise, no? :P
i wouldn't be opposed to there being a type of water park where you can wear your bathing suit and take water slides to the different zones for transportation.I think this is a fair compromise.
Everything but free teleports actually sounds like a fair balance. I agree with posts above though. This world is not glorified enough for people to want to travel through it. When 2.0 comes out it better though!
actually, i do personally think that the idea you can teleport anytime anywhere with a anima that gives allowance of 6 every 24 hrs is bad. To some its good, but to new players ( casual players i hope ) is bad. i still remember helping members is my old linkshell
member B " can someone please help member C, ill be back later. he has been stuck for 3 days now "
me " /tell member C, hey so whatsup? you need help doing Grand company quest? "
member C " yeah "
me " okay, so what does the journal tells you to do"
member C "tells me to go to camp tranquill, "
me " okay, lets teleport there then, ill fight the monsters for you "
Member C " thats the problem. i dont have anima and i dont wana run"
me "inside my head ( ANGER, REMORSE, CONFUSION, WTH~~!!!!! ) okay. follow me we will run there, you can auto follow me if you want, just make sure your always on auto follow >.> "
Member C " . . . . ."
soo yeah... if new players get spoiled with the ANIMA thats already 100! at the beginning, they will just get too spoiled and get lazy to run around. Hell i walked alot since the lunch date, i even do locals every reset and i never teleported cause i save my anima when i host Leve Link Parties ( because most of the time random participants doesnt have anima either )
in the end, i do like the ideas DocMog presented in the very first post. other option is the Anima Teleportation is unlocked through a quest like the Chocobo Liscence.

In ver 2.0 I'd like to see Anima used only to travel from Crystal to Nodes (if they still exist)
Umm a few things...
1) You could have teleported him yourself by forming a party
2) If you didnt have anima, tell him to hop on an airship. My entire GC quests involved lots of airship tickets and chocobo rentals
3) Walking anywhere takes a very long time, especially without a chocobo. It is absurd to expect everyone to spend 15-20 mins just *getting* to a quest npc. If anima didnt exist, im willing to bet a lot of ppl wouldnt bother. Mounts make it doable, but before mounts its just awful. The game requires you to travel a lot, and yet travel takes a ridiculous amount of time for no reason.
4) As ive said a billion times, anima runs out. People learn to walk eventually. Think of anima as training wheels on a bicycle. If they dont wanna walk after they run out of anima, they wouldnt have wanted to if anima was never there in the first place.
5) Generally walking anywhere right now is a waste of time. There's nothing out there worth seeing (except coerthas or mor dhona). I can't knock people that love to walk, but i can say that you seriously can't expect that out of everyone. People have things to do with their life, some of them (if not most) working.
And someone has *yet* to explain to me how WHM teleports are any better than anima. I'm starting to get the sense that anima haters just hate the fact that it runs out. Lets drop the pretext of "more immersion" and get to the heart of the issue here.
Being a new player I enjoy the Anima system, however trying to get around super fast was difficult and overwhelming At First. I kinda thought it would be nice if when you complete a Quest it would give you +1 to your Anima pool (or whatever number in relevance to the challenge of the quest.).
maaan people are lazy and want to put no effort into anything.
Anima is fine. Leave it as is. If you're like me, and you take long breaks from playing sometimes, Anima is extremely useful.
Just thought I would quote this.
@ Lux
1) I don't think you even read his post
2)Airship wouldn't get him to camp whatever, they only go to town.
3) Wow...15-20mins is a life time. Getting from uldah to broken water takes 10mins on chocobo, if you don't have that much time to spare you shouldn't be playing an mmo
4) Reason why I don't think you read is post, he clearly said that the guy was out of anima..... He did not make an effort to walk there on his own, soo the guy did the walking for him.
5) You don't even know.... there's some amazing places to be seen, some places I'm sure you don't even know exist because you just teleport everywhere....
I'm one of those people who takes long breaks from the game, not because I want to, but because of real life.. And yet I try not to use anima that much. Especially since the release of chocobos and airships! They've made traveling a lot of fun :)
Sure I'd save a lot of time by insta-porting to places, but that's not fun for me. I really like the idea of having mages tele everywhere. I dunno, anything to make classes play important roles in society, and not just battles.
So, for everyone that loves anima so much, then just ask a mage to tele you. It'll take what, an extra couple minutes out of your time? Still a lot faster than traveling by foot/choco ^^
(Oh, and I wouldn't even make you pay if you asked for a tele) :P
@Rokien, I like looking at the nice scenery as well, it helps immersion a lot to be able to appreciate the environment around you :)
I never have more than 10-20 anima anyways. Drop it down to 1 anima per teleport and only used between gates and nodes. Bring back teleports and crags for whms. Leave return thats fine the way it is.
I don't think you read mine...
1) Thats a lie, considering i was responding to a situation I would have had to read in order to even know. Of course i read it...duh. That was sharp of you.
2) Obviously, but the town would put him closer to the camp than walking from another town entirely. Not hard to understand. You're trying way too hard to be antagonistic. Its common sense.
3) You didnt read the post, his friend didnt have a chocobo since he was doing GC quests. As far as time goes, if you only have 2 hours to play, and spend 15-20mins travelling to each location..well you do the math. One roundtrip is almost half your playtime, and thats only travelling. Use math.
4) You *really* didnt read my post. This makes me wonder why you're even responding to it. I'll give you a chance to read it again and then determine if your post was relevant. I know the guy was out of anima..that wasnt the point. The point, which you clearly missed, was that anima did not make him lazy..he was lazy to begin with. Anima or no anima he wasnt going to walk by himself anyway.
5) You really didnt read *any* of my posts. I have said more than once that I have no anima anymore, so I can't teleport everywhere. It ran out a long time ago. I have hp in uldah, use the ferry to get to limsa, and ride a choco to grid. No i dont teleport, unless I need to meet someone quickly for something.
All of that said, if you're going to accuse someone of not reading you could at least do a better job of it yourself. Whats funny is that ppl like you pretend you're being smart.
EDIT: And yet another reason why I think you didnt read it properly: I mentioned some nice places that I think are worth going to. If you actually read it you should know what im talking about. If you didnt well, joke's on you isnt it?
1. You didn't read it very good or something
2. how do you know he has an airship pass deal, or he already used those tickets?
3.There are quests post chocobo..... either way point still stands, if you don't have that little time to spare you hsouldn't be playing a MMORPG
4. The fact that he was hoping for a the dude to teleport him and the "....." shows he is lazy, also the fact that he /follow
5. You just named two places, there is amazing places OUT OF THE WAY.
My question is, why does everyone jump to "OMG FF11-2! AHHHH!!!" every time something is being talked about? What do you expect to be so insanely different that it wont look like ff11? Look at this way.. FF14 needs a foundation right? Being that FF11 is the only other FF MMO period, why not incorporate some aspects? For example, Have they not used summons in almost every FF game that has come out? If my memory serves me correctly, I don't ever remember hearing "OMG!! it's FF - insert sequel Ahhh!!" because of summons. Fact is, you can't make a true FF game without incorporating features or ideas form the previous. Now, like i said earlier in a post, I never did really level whm past 37. But i did like the aspect of whm having those spells aswell as blm having warp. FF11's classes were more distinked. There wasn't anyone class that was like the next. Each role was known for there unique abilities and the players found there own way to make themselves benefit from said abilities in there own way. It gave us the option to truly play the way we wanted too without being pointed in the direction that it was meant too be played. Granted, it didnt make sence to some but it still worked.
Point is, no one knows what will happen with the anima system. I'm not against it but I do feel that opening the menu, hitting tele and your gone on every class is a little broken. Theres needs to be some restriction to what can and cant be done in order to feel like you accomplished something. Fact is, if everyone is given exactly what they wanted, there would be no since of enjoyment with accomplishing anything which is why people play these mmo's.
I like being able to port around. What's the point of WHM having tele spells if all you have to do is change your weapon to do the same thing as anima now?
I don't care about the free transport I just think the range of locations available and how often it can be done needs to be adressed.
I'd love to say "I'll wait for 2.0" on this, but it's a important issue for me. We shouldn't be able to get anywhere we want with the snap of our fingers, anytime we want. Closer? sure why not. Unlimited? (Face it Anima is hardly restricting unless your going ape on the teleports) No.
That's my opinion on it, I just think the brevity of tele locations take alot away from the map design and a ton of people who complain about the map design heavily use this feature. If they had the incling or reason to walk anywhere other than the basic paths I'm sure there would be far less complaints about the world design as while it is slightly bland still has some amazing and unique vistas to apreciate.
I blame the under-apreciation of these features in tandem with terrible mob placement, quest design(Good but doesn't make you explore) that rarely takes you anywhere scenic, and the over-emphasis on transportation via anima.
I think Anima needs to at least be hit with a hard nerf stick. Come at me bro.
Wow. You are too nice.
I am happy to help new players as much as I can, but not if they are simply too lazy to do anything for themselves.
Member C wanted a free ride and to just sit back while someone else fights the monsters?
For someone like that, what's the purpose of even logging in?
I don't see anima and teleportation as the problem here.
