My god, this shit has driven me absolutely insane. Its so obnoxious, they can't make up their minds whether they want it to be a gain or a loss, and either way, its such a TINY difference that trying to theorycraft/optimize rotations with these differences in mind makes you feel like you're rolling DPS pennies. I hate it and it takes the joy out of optimizing it for me. I still do it, make no mistake, but just personally doesn't feel good because I know the gains/losses are smaller than crit-RNG margins.

I'd imagine they would argue the 'gain' is the mitigation you get from TBN itself. So what they seem to be saying is instead of paying 2400 for 140 potency, you instead pay 2400 for 20%/10% HP Shield AND 140(?) potency.

This seems to reflect on their view of stances and tenacity as well. :L

They're not technically wrong in that (a broken)TBN does give you 'more' then Dark Arts, it's just we don't value the mitigation as much as they do.

Gain the effects of Dark Arts(10 seconds) and increase the Blood Gauge by 50 when full 20%(10%) is absorbed.

The devs chose role abilities over lore abilities mostly because they wanted to balance the game for the older jobs but ended up making the balance worse than a new RDM rotation that doesn't actually utilize it's mechanics properly... I have seen videos and played a little bit of RDM but it did not strike my fancy, same with SAM... I honestly believe that the lore AND role abilities are what make the job and they fail to realize that much like Blizzard's World of Warcraft team...

First of all I like DRK as it is now. Yes it could use minor improvements and yes, loving it so much, I would like to excel it at everything. But with other 2 tanks in mind that won't work:


I think we all can agree on SW needing an improvement. Either boost it's power or lower the recast (I would favor the 2nd, but I can already see PLDs crying).

Also DP. With the Quietus buff it's easier to fit in our aoe rotation though it's still not really a dps gain. I simply don't understand the need for the initial MP cost. I'd even trade the mp cost for a higher cd if needed for balance.

Now on to the other suggestions:

The idea to give BP a damage taken buff (10%) is great. It would be around the same effect that old Reprisal gave and would BP+Delirium give more meaning. But this buff + SW buff would be too much imo. it's probably also stronger and more reliable than PLD's passive reduction through blocks.

DM reducing both damage types is also throwing off balance, especially with the other buffs in mind. Personally i would change it's DA effect, since DM+TBN is most of the time stronger than DADM. I would suggest DADM extending the buff to the whole pt (maybe increase base on DRK to 20% and on the pt 10%)

I would also increase the MP gain through non-DA CS.

Dark Passenger's MP cost is ridiculous on all fronts and it needs to be reverted ASAP. Its a bloody travesty of nearly (but not quite) Shake If Off proportions. There is literally no justification for it. They could give it back to us in its original form and with our DPS currently being the lowest of the 3 tanks, it wouldn't throw anything out of balance whatsoever. WAR and PLD have 300 potency attacks on 30s cooldowns with less of a resource cost (if any) than our 100 potency attack that costs 1/4 of our mana on the same recast time. The theme for SB was reducing ability bloat, and if they wanted to make this skill as useless as it currently is, they should have just removed it and baked its potency into something else. Riddle me this SE, how does a 100 potency line AoE cost 2400 more mana than a 525 potency AoE DoT?

DM reducing both damage types I could pass on if they added damage reduction to Blood Price and lowered Shadow Wall's recast and increased its duration. Its great for tankbusters, sure, but our kit is already packed with skills that are great for tankbusters, and none that are good for fluff damage, like Raw Intuition or Bulwark, even as much as those skills have their downsides. However, 15% reduced magic damage for the entire party for 10s while we go right on attacking... I'd draw the line at that I'm afraid. That's almost a tank LB1 for magic damage every 60 seconds. Considering the kind of mitigation you can get with DM+TBN, DADM reducing both damage types isn't just balanced, it makes sense.

Non-DAC&S is fine where it is, especially with the change to Quietus.

I don't think any of these changes are too much. Look at the changes WAR got in 4.05, the changes PLD got in 4.0, AST in 3.4, DRG in 2.45. Almost nothing is too much if people complain loud enough.

People need to stop thinking that making DM reduce all damage instead of just magic would be OP. PLD can block magic now. How would DM being all-damage mitigation be OP compared to PLD being able to block magic ? Seriously. On top of that, currently, they put magic tank busters, cleaves and autos in raids so that DM is still useful. Making DM reduce all damage would just allow them to put any type of damage at any time and the skill would be as useful as now, not OP in any way, shape or form. Especially compared to PLD's mitigation kit. Currently, DM is just completely useless whenever the fights do only physical damage. Just like Sheltron and Bulwark were before on magic-only fights. They fixed the issue for PLD, but fixing it for DRK would be OP ? Really bro ?

PLD needs to rely on cross call skills just as much. You could count PoA but you are doing no damage while it lasts. Bulwark is not reliable in Raids and in dungeons Anticipation is just as good cause of the lower recast.

And I didn't say that DM was DRK's Sheltron/IB, I'd like it to be atleast DRK's ToB or Bulwark. DRK currently only has Shadow Wall as a sentinel/vengeance equivalent, but yet it is weaker than both. Everything else is either magic-only (DM), cross-role (so other tanks have them too) or TB mitigation (TBN, just like IB and Sheltron). Yet the other tanks both have at least 1 extra mitigation on top of these, which DRK lacks. All of that on top of having the weakest "big" mitigation CD. If you still fail to see why we're complaining right now we can't do anything more to help you.

We're asking for DADM alone to mitigate physical damage as well, not regular DM. For 2400 mana that's a fair price considering we can already get similar mitigation to both damage types in TBN+DM. We're asking for DADM to have a purpose for existing. None of PLD's cooldowns cost them DPS to operate effectively. (Clemency and PoA are not cooldowns)

This is how it is right now, already. We already pair TBN with DM and Sheltron is already crap for multi-hitting attacks. What we're asking is for DADM to not be strictly inferior to TBNDM. You think "PLD's would be cool" with us having a slightly weaker tank LB1 for magic damage on a 60s recast? Cause THAT would actually give PLD serious competition in the utility department. That's more mitigation than Delirium and Reprisal combined.

Except it doesn't. You already have a solid cooldown suite combined with a shield that like I said just makes PLD hands-down tanker than the other two tanks now that they can block magic. PLD's shield used to not be a big deal, but now, it absolutely is. PLD can take Rampart and Conva and be completely solid, DRK takes the same CR abilities because it clings to dear life without them unless its being propped up by magic-heavy content. DRK is THE reason tankbusters are almost all magical, and seemingly any fight now with physical ones ensures a tank swap mechanic so that DRK needn't take every single one.

PLD has Sentinel, Sheltron, Bulwark and Passage of Arms. Bulwark and PoA can't be combined with Sheltron as all block damage. Bulwark is ok for dungeon pulls but has a long CD. it's crap for single target/raids. How is that solid without cross class?

Also Sizzle, if you want balance you should care as much about the other tanks as you do about DRK.

I think that even DM without DA should mitigate both damage types. Having CDs that only mitigate one type of damage is very bad design and absolutely terrible to balance since it also relies on encounter design. DM should have the same purpose to exist on every fight, whether it be mostly magical or mostly physical, with and without DA. DA should just make it stronger, or add an extra effect. That's the reason why they made PLD able to block magic damage. I wouldn't have anything against Raw Intuition getting buffed so that WAR can parry magic too with this CD on. I'm just done with only 1 damage-type CDs. It's just shitty design.

Should take a look at Shadow Wall compared to Sentinel which is the same skill but weaker, and we don't have a Bulwark skill. TBN is the Sheltron/Intervention of the job (Oath vs Mana more or less) so that balances them out. We don't have any other physical mitigation after that outside of role skills. No Divine Veil or Passage of Arms. Our CD kit is basically 2 skills and a "???" with Dark Mind varying in use level dependent on encounter. Throw in the shield mitigation AND doing more damage than us with more mitigation/utility and you're left with "???". Edit: Oh yeah there's that whole Hallowed Ground vs Living Dead thingy too.

You really can't argue that Dark Knights are not more dependent on role skills to mitigate damage.

Thread title is Dark Knight feedback not a balance thread on all three tanks, seems fair to give mostly Dark Knight feedback in the Dark Knight thread.

18 pages of NA DRKs who seem like they can't agree on what they want for DRK to have... so let's take one step at a time.

3rd combo finisher that has raid utility slapped on it.

Just as much raid utilty as PLD.

self damage mitigation; traits that could easily fit DRK in terms of role AND lore: Shadowskin could provide 5% Defense boost but only in combat, and Dark Dance increases parry and evasion rate by 20% and have DRK parry magic attacks.

Dark Arts would require traits to be useful for endgame. Dark Arts Mastery would decrease mana costs in halve, make it so Dark Arts is no longer lost for 1 effect and increase duration to 15 second with certain actions increasing the duration to 30 seconds max with but cooldown is 180 seconds.

Buff Blood Price MP regen so that it gives more MP.

Quietus needs to have 15 blood gauge cost to actually make it worth using in AoE situations.

And have Delirium add extra effects to them, For example Blood Price adds a Bloodbath effect.

Regardless of how or where people want changes, most people agree/want this:

Dark Passenger made useful again.
Shadow Wall's cd reduced or buffed to match Sentinel in some form.
TBN brought up to 6-7 seconds due to server ticks.
Living Dead either changed or more noticeable.
Some extra form of mitigation with various suggestions around dark mind and blood price or a new buff added.
Some extra dps put anywhere with various suggestions on end of combo or Bloodspiller having a secondary.

Then there's some crazy job redesigns we're all going to ignore because seriously, not feasible.

I find DRK to be pretty boring right now. Just in terms of how to make it play a little better, I think
-Some MP restoration on Bloodspiller - not as much as a Dark Arts, maybe as much as a non-Grit Syphon Strike.
-High enough potency on Bloodspiller to make using TBN for DPS more attractive
-One more combo ender. Preferably not a powerful DOT just because that's just Dark Paladin.
-Trait or buff from the above combo ender that gives blood when you use MP.

With this we'd have MP feeding Blood, and Blood feeding MP. Kinda similar to the shield oath setup of HS->Sheltron->MP->HS

And then for just buffs:
-Dark Arts Dark Mind -> Grants 10% magic damage reduction to the party (25% total for the DRK, mostly just to keep the tooltip from being stupid)
-Living Dead - Cooldown reduced if it doesn't proc. Some big obvious graphic that happens while Walking Dead is active.
-Blackest Night - grants up to 50 blood based on how much of the shield was used.
-Souleater healing applies out of Grit

Even though there are still a few "failure conditions" on DRK (not enough MP to DA CnS, not enough Blood to Delirium+BW on cooldown, hitting 100% MP, hitting 100% blood), it feels like they're too easy to avoid. Combined with Souleater bot gameplay it's kinda boring.

While Blood Price was originally for MP regen, I get the feeling they were planning to do something else with it and scrapped it before implementation. MP return on it being so low makes little sense. Granted, an ability like it also makes little sense when you look at how the MP bar turns into a very controlled and finite resource with Darkside active.

Why do people always forget that Cover is also a CD? Just because it functions a bit differently doesn't change what it is. I mean, so the other tank has to have hate, big deal. It's still a self-mitigation CD equal to Rampart.

Hi. First time posting.

Just wanted to contribute with my ideas as Dark knight too.

My main problem is with Living dead, which is a very dangerous skill that can make the healers think "I made it", stop healing when you get over half, and then see you die to nothing.
I think that would be partially solved by increasing the timer to 12s and giving every skill the Dark arts effect under those 12 seconds, which would effectively increase the self heal and the solo usability, along with some DPS problems.
Also, changing the players name in the party screen to pitch black with a grey or white HP bar, would effectively tell the healers that Walking dead is still under effect.

For me, I just hate how much Dark Arts spamming is now because of Siphon Strike and I hate The Blackest Night. Neither of them feel fun or satisfying to use at all any more. TBN turns out "use MP for more damage" mentality into a psuedo-defense-offense mindset which isn't fun to use at all. I think if TBN was a much longer cooldown I could tolerate it more, but wanting to feel like it has priority over Dark Arts isn't fun at all. I also feel very pressured about having to Dark Arts every Bloodspiller as well which takes a lot of the fun out of the Bloodgauge. Don't get me wrong, I loved DRK in 3.0 because of its difficulty and rewarding to master, but I don't think the mastery required in 4.0 DRK is satisfying or rewarding at all and it really killed the thematic reasons I played DRK.

As someone whose in the top 50 parses for DRK, this is fairly accurate. Not using DA on Bloodspiller is bad imo, but you typically don't use Bloodspiller that much (from my experience from v1-3.) I really only pop it during the opener for a free delirium or MAYBE whenever I need a delirium, just depends on the fight really but it's never overused in my experience (MT DRK as well so, take that as you will).

tbn bloodspiller is actually a slight dps loss outside of grit though after the buff to souleater potency, or at best youre breaking even. You use tbn for busters and on the opening pull to get bw delirium asap, maybe as ot on o3s for crit hit. and theres still a da priority system just like 3.x. CnS, bloodspiller, souleater, and if youre overflowing with mana, siphon strike. It does suck not having low blow, scourge, dp and old reprisal, i hope in the next patch we can get a dp fix, some potency upgrades, maybe scourge at the end of a powerslash combo, or on a da plunge, tbn cast point/duration fix cuz server ticks, living dead qol buff, shadow wall recast reduction, etc

It's true that it's a personal loss, but I think most people are referring to the fact that it's either raid wide DPS increase, or that the DRK will need to use it for multiple hard hitting mechanics per minute, whereas it doesn't need to be tuned like that at all.

There's also that "must use it" feeling because your other CDs are on well, cooldown. There's no inbetween mitigation so you (imo) feel pretty obligated to use it every time it's up (which isn't feasible in a lot of encounters)

Paladin has Bulwark for Autos
DRK has nothing for Autos
Why.

just requires fight knowledge and planning. Bosses dont non stop auto attack you on savage they usually do a buster, do a cast bar mechanic, more autos, another mechanic, tankbuster etc. You can tbn tail swipes and twin bolt, or catastrophes auto nukes and still have it up for double cleave, use it for o3s first crit and one aoe and the next pair of autos and the next ch. You dont spam it off cd you time it right so it becomes a strong "in between" mitigation as well as a pair up with another cd for a buster

I'm currently using conv-rampart-awareness(swap for reprisal on anything but 3)-provoke-shirk
3 of those are practically manditory. Would just be nice to have a niche again, something DRK hasn't had since 3.x

Does that reduction really have to be in there for a tank of all things? It's not exactly like we do a lot of damage to begin with. I'd still have a fairly hard time justifying spending half my mana bar or more just to dark arts this thing if so

Combined DoT potency is 240 which isn't affected by fall off. Maximum damage would be 480 and minimum 360 after all DoT ticks.

But to answer your question, I'm not sure. I didn't want to make it too strong.

Yeah the stun would pretty much be the only thing I'd use it for and honestly it's kind of absurd that any ability uses half our mana bar to begin with. Imagine if Warriors burned half their TP on a skill, it's crazy and dumb that they made DP like that now to begin with.

DP just needs a complete reversion. There is no excuse for it being the way it is, nor is it necessary to re-work the ability into something else entirely. Just put it back SE.

Changing the ability as I stated basically allows healers to top you off as soon as possible without nullifying the defensive buff. Essentially turning it into something similar to holmgang with a longer CD, but it still requires you to die to activate, and has the risk of dying after.

Edit: Actually I understand what you mean now. I would rather change the effect from most attacks will not lower your HP below 1, to renders you impervious to most attacks.

DP just needs a complete reversion. There is no excuse for it being the way it is, nor is it necessary to re-work the ability into something else entirely. Just put it back SE.

That'd just make it Hallowed Ground except inferior.... Which it already kind of is anyways honestly.

Which is basically what it is now, but it would at least be more useful. The way it is now requires lots of tank/healer coordination.

What it is now - a worse Holmgang with a 2 min longer cooldown.

What I suggest - a worse Hallowed Ground with 2 min shorter cooldown.

Thinking that DRK needs maybe a little more utility, and a bit of its identity as 'magic tank' back. I'd stuff both of those into Sole Survivor because I'm boring like that.

Sole Survivor:
Increases target's magic damage vulnerability by 10%. (everyone)
A portion of damage dealt to target will be restored as MP. (everyone)
If the target should be KO'd in battle, a portion of your HP and MP will be restored. (the Dark Knight only)

I'd probably make Quietus oGCD as well, maybe. Not 70 on it yet, feel a bit unqualified to add much.

I like this! Although I think it would make everyone use the skill on cooldown for the debuff effect, making the heal kind of niche.

Sole Survivor:

Marks target with the status Another Victim. A portion of all damage taken by the target will be restored as MP. If that target should be KO'd in battle, increases Blood Gauge by 25 and 20% of your maximum HP will be restored.
Duration: 15s
Additional Effect: Increases targets magic vulnerability by 10%.
Duration: 10s

Reduce cooldown from 120s -> 90s

This skill is crying out to increase the Blood Gauge as well.
