They make it painfully obvious they don't actually play other games.
WoW even has catchup PvP gear now that scales for instance AND open world. It's insane.

Go actually play and be part of Lost Ark and get back to me. Later.
So, out of curiosity what aspects of FFXIV are we 'allowed' to criticise and consider to be poorly implemented and open to improvement?
All of the above is okay with me. This is my entertainment now.
For the record, I still do love XIV - But "Play other games" or "PUG raid" just exhaust me at this point. I don't actually play anymore, I'm basically just subbed to meme and hold my house.

Honest question: if you still love XIV and want to play, why does a suggestion like "try EXs in PF" exhaust you? The Extremes this expansion have been a good gateway into 'high end' content. From your posts, you seem to get enjoyment from the battle content in the game, so if you do want to play the game more and you feel like the game isn't letting you play it, why not take the plunge into the battle content the game is providing currently?
The lack of self-awareness is flowing freely today, it seems.
Not everyone is capable of doing so. Not everyone has the time to do so. Not everyone is comfortable with doing so. There are many reasons one might choose to refrain from stepping into EX and higher. Frankly, the vast majority of the game's playerbase won't go anywhere near EX or above.
No one is gatekeeping anything. Disagreement is not akin to allowing or disallowing. Heck, if anything it seems more like positivity is the thing that is discouraged the most on here. Sure there will be trolls pushing the bar, but if we judged everything by their standards then we are doomed.
Because they've always been a bit gatekeepy, and I really don't want to deal with that shit right now. I could historically just hop into Eureka, or Bozja and get shit done. I just want more coop challenges that don't rely on the full group's coordination and constant repeated failures. But that's mostly a me problem I think, because I DO love day 1 Normals.
Variant was kinda perfect for me in that way, but it fell flat. The challenge was there, and it scaled for 1-4 which was great. But it has no reason to repeat it, and it's all scripted.
It's like both Variant and Island Sanctuary were a direct calling to my kinda playstyle, but I could instantly tell they were husks of what could've been.
Negativity being accepted on any level is a fairly recent development, and even now it does tend to result in being mocked and ridiculed regardless of whether or not criticisms are thoughtful and well-written. Bringing this up in turn often results in further mockery and various accusations. And therein lies the problem.
It is normal to be critical of a product you care about when you see things you feel could be handled better, and putting those thoughts to word is about the only option available other than just throwing in the towel. If you speak ill of any part of the game, there will almost definitely be some posters that roll up to trash you. It's happened enough that people are just tired of it.
Gonna have to disagree that negativity being accepted is a recent development. From my own experiences here, the negative side of the scales have always been more heavy and vocal here (I still have the scars from early Endwalker debates regarding Venat…) then the positive. Its levels have changed up and down sure over time and years, but I do not think one can accuse this place of being at a level of ‘toxic positivity’ other media sites are.
I agree criticism is a needed aspect of any media, but to be fair though, the ‘posters that roll up to trash you’ thing often happens if you speak positively of the game too. People have even used the same excuse you say to justify being disrespectful of negative posts, that they are ‘just tired of it.’ You are right that such debates can fall into ‘mockery and various accusations.’ but it is in no way unique to one side either. It would be great if every topic could be well-written and throughout examinations of the game, but in this environment thats near on impossible to carry on past a few pages. Plus when it comes to subjective aspects like story, we are all pushed by our own bias viewpoints.Quote:

The victimization part probably. Aren't you one of those who cries "you can't even be positive about the game here" while also countering everything with: "you are in the minohritey!" Well guess what: if YOU are in the Mah-Joh-Ra-Tey than YOU are not the "little victim" or whatever you think you are
Here I'll critize the game
- Make roles unique again
- Make raid dungeons actual dungeons
- Remove telegraphs and add other kinds of visual indicators
- Introduce long quest chains for relic weapons and tools
-Make Relics worth the investment
-More mid tier content
-FIX THE HOUSING SYSTEM
1. Allow alts to share houses for Chirst sake.
2. Allow more tenants
3. Vip list for non tenants so they can enter when the house is locked!!!
- Medium and large apartments!!!
-Improve the blacklist to be account based!!!
-Raise the flight ceiling in ARR zones
What are you talking about? I never said people I disagree with are the minority. The complaining here is the majority of posters. I've been pretty consistent with this point of view.
There is also a distinction between a being a majority here on the forums (complaining and complaining sympathizers who swarm the few people enjoying the game) and the general playerbase not part of these forums.
I'm sorry, but this has nothing to do with your attempt to insult me, which is "self-awareness". You can claim I am not aware of the history of these forums outside the times I'm here, which is true. But that has nothing to do with self-awareness. I also disagree that negativity being widespread is only "fairly recent" unless you consider years of this to be "fairly recent." Also...simply LOL at the majority of people being thoughtful and well-mannered in how they interact here. If you are vocal about enjoying this game, the number of people who ridicule and insult has not decreased whatsoever. I'm insulted every day I post here.
Speaking of actual self-awareness, was it not you who just compalined in the positive thread about being insulted, when that's what you do here? Now THAT is a lack of self-awareness.
Quite simple. You have made repeated inferences that this has in fact always been the case, that critics present themselves as victims, etc. Yet, if you look back at the history of these forums, you will rather quickly realize it is only fairly recently the proverbial tide began to turn. Some posters do still go out of their way to ridicule those whose opinions do not align with their own, but the number engaging in that behavior does seem to have decreased. This is something you dismiss as well, instead behaving as if there is some completely one-sided attack on people that are enjoying the game, despite the vast majority of people bringing forward criticisms doing so in a thoughtful, constructive, inoffensive, and well-mannered way.
People will pay for cosmetics. They will gleefully pay dearly for cosmetics they are highly unlikely to ever obtain from that accursed gacha. FOMO is cancer, and I gladly condemn any who defend it for whichever crusade they woke up and chose to embark upon that day.
Have people just missed the fact that a free login campaign took place recently? I highly doubt those posters who apparently according to some hate this game are paying a dime at this point in time. Why would they, when Square is so willing to let them game and post for the low, low price of free?
'Scars'? Again, see my previous post. The criticism of Venat was equal to calling it silly writing that she wasn't held to the same standards as the antagonists in the game. The criticism of Venat criticism, meanwhile, revolved around deeply personal insults including but not limited to accusing people of being 'fascists', hating women, homophobic comments, sending death threats, rape threats, insulting the intelligence of the posters in question, ridiculing non-English speakers and creating unhinged conspiracy theories about how everybody critical of the story is secretly the same person.
From what I recall, you engaged in at least some of the threads where such things went down so whilst I admit that you might have genuinely missed it...I must confess to finding it a bit odd to portray Venat fans as the true victims.
How DARE you mock a successful BUSINESS OWNER with SOCIAL SKILLS who has totally NEVER countered others with "you're in the minority!!"
It in fact does. You make frequent statements to the effect of "we can't be positive here because we get attacked" while going out of your way to attack and belittle people for bringing forth criticisms. That does speak of a lack of self-awareness. You do the very things you continually accuse others of, which is precisely why I outlined those things.
As I see it, that was a statement of fact. If you choose to take it as an insult, that is your prerogative.
You are speaking to someone who is more than willing to pay for cosmetics. Battle passes are garbage, and in my praise of games like Genshin or Star Rail, I have not praised their gacha practices. I have praised the games itself and their updates. For that matter, those games are VERY playable absolutely free to play, but I digress. Paying for cosmetics is one thing, but a battle pass is something else entirely. I really can't believe why people will defend battle passes, and act like it's consumer friendly.
This, this, this. All the way this. This is why the "take a break" argument never truly works. The thing so many fail to understand is thus: Other games allow you to take a break. FFXIV, by contrast, forces you to take a break because by the time you feel inclined to resort to such a drastic action it is often the only recourse left to you. Even then, as you also stated most astutely, when you do return you often cannot jump right back in since you must grind out tomestones to get the newest gear since your old set is possibly severely outranked depending on how long you've been absent for.
Inb4 the next time a poster gets angy and umcomfy when ex cathedra statements are made or making one's opinion not clear is villainized selectively. I'm so weary of this, and from where I stand you cannot condemn those whom you share and exhibit the faults of. The "I'm not them, I personally didn't do this" argument also doesn't work, since again, the behavior is being critiqued with selective precision. Enough with the bias already, it's so damn tiresome.
Maybe instead of being smug about it you realize people critique games they love and want to get better and realize that Square making having a subscription and logging in to post is actually kind of scummy. It's the only thing that actually enables these backwards and nonsensical analogies, because logic and common sense were taken behind the shed long ago.
It's a common phenomenon that those who say "I don't actually care about <insert thing here>" is often rather concerned with said thing. It's a known obfuscation method in the lives of many human beings living on this planet. I'm also relatively sure it was listed as a symptom of a very particular chapter of the DSM-V, but I'll let you research that one on your own. ◕‿↼
I don't go out of my way to attack or belittle people. Most of my post history is actually polite until I'm attacked first. Which always happens because some people here just simply can't handle people enjoying the game or any disagreement.
I see what I say as statements of fact. If you choose to take it as an insult, that's your prerogative.
Actually not really, as I know what an opinion is versus a fact...something you don't seem to know the difference between. But since you find insulting opinions to be "facts" - going on my block list too. Not the type of person I will engage with further now that you revealed that this is how you think.
EDIT: For Kickwars, who I blocked, but I saw him being quoted - I actually celebrated my 17 year anniversary last month with a glorious trip abroad. Yes I paid for this with the money I made from my business. Thanks for remembering! I'm glad I made such an impact on you that you recall this about me from a one-off comment months ago. I feel quite adored and appreciated from all the attention you want to give me!
SUCCESSFUL MULTIMILLION DOLLAR BUSINESS OWNER IN A 16 YEAR MARRIAGE KNOWS WHAT IS OPINION AND WHAT IS FACT. MORE AT 5
I don't think you understand what respecting your time means. It means that you're not forced to do it if you don't want to and you can do it later without any special hassle. It has nothing to do with how long grind is. I don't understand how we got into situation where MMORPG players are surprised that MMORPGs have grinds. What's next, gamers surprised that F2P games have lootboxes?
- Raid-ready? Are you for real? You can buy buy exotic armor which is 5% worse than BiS for chump change. And if you want BiS, ascended is pretty easy to get nowadays.
- Neither legendary armor or weapons are required for anything, they're literally just for flex, they have exact same stats as Ascended. Do you want legendaries for free of what? Entire point of legendary weapons is that they're not hard to do, but take a long time, while legendary armor is both hard and takes long time. This is how you design prestigious flex items, unlike EW relics, which are just participation awards.
- AR is system so newbs don't jump immediately to T4 + AR infusions are great for making money and so on. Fractals are great example of gradual difficulty ramp up, instead of FFXIV massive leap from normal content to EX and EX to savage.
- Not unlocking LW episodes is FOMO, I agree, but saying you "lose access" when you "don't actively do it when it releases" is very misleading. You literally need to log in once during that patch and it's unlocked forever, and if you didn't, you can unlock it for 200 gems, which is 2.5$, or just convert few golds for gems and you get it for free.
I mean, that keyword will pull his name from a quote. I reply a lot to posts on the forums. Doesn't mean I care about him particularly. By this logic, Theodric has an obsession with mommy because if you plug it in the same way you did with me a ton of posts come up. And you have admitted to having a ton of accounts just to troll the forums for fun.
