I don't care. It's just an icon.
Hardly. Disbelief isn't equal to upset, after all.
What is interesting to me though, is the gaslighting. We've had people show up in this thread to launch personal attacks at other posters, accusing them of 'lacking empathy' for not joining the clapping and cheering of a corporation making a display of their virtue. Yet despite such bile being thrown around...some choose to try and portray the people rolling their eyes as the ones overreacting.
My question is, since it was such a small number of people asking for it. Why not do a poll globally to gauge people’s reactions. Because it is something that effects everyone even if it’s small.Even reading that jp thread, there are multiple people saying, they don’t see why they should change it, they could just enable an option for players sensitive to that to toggle it.Again, its weird to me SE took action for this because they didnt want a minority of players to feel uncomfortable, but theyre fine inserting a stripping underage girl which no one bats an eye at.
This needs to go next.

Personally I don't think it would of triggered mine but I'm happy with the change regardless if it helps others. Also I'm glad (not glad but you get what I mean) to see I'm not the only one that has this stupid phobia as trying to explain it to others in real life just elicits confused head tilts and raised eyebrows.
This is just a quick modification I made to the Sage icon in Adobe Photoshop.
I used the same elements from the presented modified icon.
I do not like the "threading the needle" aspect of the neuliths, so I removed that part of the visual.
I copied and pasted the central lith, adjusted the positioning, and slightly rotated the liths to show my preference for the icon.

Jokes aside it ultimately isn't going to matter. It's just an icon and people won't be paying too much attention to it. If only they cared this much about balance changes to healers as a whole. Who have been asking for changes since early ShB.

I quite like it.
Y'all will argue about anything.
Yeah, pretty much. Personally, I think it was mostly a PR move more than anything as far as the reasoning goes. Gotta look extra good right now! They've always been very handicap friendly though with this game. Either way I don't see the big deal. Enough people didn't like it and that was probably reason enough to change it. Might as well look good in the process.
Lol right? They even said that because it is an icon specifically, and therefore would show up in almost all aspects of the game and on merch, that that is the reason they decided to change it. The change took minimal effort, and looks better anyway.
Leave it to the OF to see any small gesture of good will as some sort of slippery slope to Hugbox Hell.
I agree. I mean at the end of the day, it hasnt even been released yet. if it was a job in from day one, and suddenly this came up... -may- have a point
but changes now are.. so what?
there are much bigger hills and issues to take a stand on, an icon change is hardly the end of the world or caving to 'minority groups' when its not even in the game yet
Why are people so afraid of the fact that the devs like to listen to the playerbase? Every time something like this happens there's always a group of people willing to go all "doom and gloom" because they're afraid of this setting some weird precedent or whatever. It's not like they deleted the whole job or something, literally just slightly altered the icon design because it was making some players uncomfortable. Like apart from them doing this out of concern and kindness, it's also rather smart from a business standpoint considering that they have merch with the icons on it. It's not good from a marketing/business standpoint if a design choice causes people to have negative reactions because then those people would just not buy the merch, and obviously SE wants them to. Based on the overreactions, it looks like quite a few people think that this is akin to holding the devs at gunpoint when it's actually in their best interest and results in good PR.
I like the change but they still left the hole on the one at the bottom haha. I would prefer if it was 4 of them next to each other without the holes; something like this [pppp]
Feelings aside. Long as they add in glamor and mount to Sage's very unique medical appearance.

Cause you know, reasons.
For some things there's an easy fix. Most of the things that people have complained about for years don't have an easy fix. As much as I want to see certain changes, and despite the fact that I play a broken race (hrothgar) pretty often, I'm also realistic with my expectations.. Altering a job icon for an expansion that hasn't even been released yet is a pretty small workload, aka an easy fix.
Dislike both old and new, and I don't expect them to cater to any of my phobias so why should anyone else?
I understand that. But little to no acknowledgement for something that’s been a problem for 6-8 years…that should be more than enough time for a fix. It’s just annoying to constantly see a vocal minority(usually on the likes of twitter) pandered to, when there’s a larger portion of people that are basically on mute and that SE doesn’t even acknowledge unless it benefits them.
In my experience, individuals with a healthy degree of critical thinking skills and a dose of scepticism are far more interesting and reliable than those who feel the need to mindlessly buy into every last little thing that a company does in the name of positive optics.
Speaking of interesting, though, despite this move supposedly not being a big deal and also a thread intended to collect feedback there's a rather troubling amount of individuals swift to launch personal attacks and indulge in character assassination of those who dare not fawn over a company for what is essentially an incredibly low effort move. Most people wouldn't even bat an eyelid if it just happened. Things change in development all the time, especially in an unfinished state. Yet the company chose to put out a statement and that statement is being critiqued.
Given what certain other corporations tied to the industry have been going through of late, I daresay it's even healthy to question the motives of those eager to show how tolerant and progressive they are. I think I'm losing count of the number of times such individuals and organisations turn out have some major skeletons within their closest! Let us hope it is not also the case with FFXIV, eh?
I don't personally believe it to be the case, though I'm also not going to go all out in launching blind support of anything and everything that happens 'just because'.
This is a pretty minor change that doesn't bother me. I never even really pay that much attention to class icons. Though, I feel its a bit strange they felt the need to announce such a minor change. Had this change went noticed by the player base on launch rather than being pointed out and giving the reason why there likely would've been a lot less fuss over it.
It looks like a firework. Meh, it's better than the old one.
This is essentially my stance on it. If you start attempting to cater to every single small issue that people have, with a player base of a million plus players, you are left with bland wet toast design decisions.
I preferred the previous design, but I understand that it affected some people and neither design affects me at all so I don't care about the icon outcome in the slightest.
I just don't think design decisions should be based on an extreme minority of the playerbase phobia, a phobia that is largely self diagnosed, self described and isn't an official disorder.

There was nothing sacred about the original icon. If the old icon made players uncomfortable and the new icon doesn't, I'm all for it.
Yes, people (including many in this thread) have kneejerk opposition to anything done to make other people more comfortable - it's a sad state of affairs, but not one that should be particularly respected.
I think their reasoning is fine, but the new design is bad.
BRING IT BACK!
Oh no, not the Sage logo. I want Cleric Stance back.
I prefer this as well. The new icon feels kinda cartoony, the poles look more like shooting stars than anything now... But ultimately it doesnt really matter to me I guess. The job icons are so tiny in game and I don't really go out and buy merch of the symbols so \o/
That said I don't like the reaper icon. It doesn't bother me in the vein of phobias or anything but imo its just unappealing compared to the other jobs.
