Wait a minute there was Gabranth or some1 using that armor in the trailer
Well that wasn't helpful at all!
... something I found interesting was that all the fight scenes, and most of the enemies therein, had that red/black aura. Yotsuyu's aunt and uncle / foster parents, all the other enemies, Zenos, even Asahi (to a degree), and the outside of the arena were all covered in it. That's interesting in and of itself, but the Gosetsu shown had a blue/white aura. The aura reminds me a bit of the one used in some other things... like the Dark Knight quests... and Yotsuyu's line about her "soul [being] steeped in spite and rotten to the core"... just a hunch, but I think we might actually be doing some of that "soul diving" business everyone expected would be used to save Estinien. Maybe. Possibly.
Or maybe she's just going to remember herself and things go south from there. Or something else entirely. Dunno.
If it's true there's no footage of the trial in the trailer, then other than Asahi's inevitable backstabbing I... can't try and chart out how it's going to go. How exciting!
Looked like it might have been Gabranth to me...
To be honest I really really want that to be true. There were a LOT of times that this individual was brought up in Gyr Abanian sidequests, especially in the fringes. Furthermore, though it may not be related we're suddenly being FORCED to watch the cutscenes in main scenario dungeons now which remind people of what he was all about at a time when we can better understand their motives. One can hope.
Now that someone pointed out that there were other players present during one of the fight scenes, I feel pretty convinced that those were part of whatever trial we're getting; probably as a transition phase.
Can't be said whether Yotsuyu is going to simply summon a primal or if she'll straight up become one somehow, but I'm thinking that whatever the outcome, it's going to initially be in turmoil, but her darkness will take over entirely during the transition and set the stage for the rest of the fight.
Though it's also possible that Zenos winning is a wipe condition and isn't supposed to happen if the phase is executed properly.
Ye, I agree, they have been keeping him coming up for a while now, even with him not beign present in potd while his dead allies are, the MSQ has never been that subtle either, when they told us of the Ivy Roaille was literally in the middle of the background and that was enough for me to suspect of her, if I remember well she even had a light on her
Maybe thanks to Asahis doing she starts to remember the bad things she did (thus breaking down and saying sorry) and the two personas are fighting against each other. (Yotsuyu vs. Tsuyu) We somehow manage to either go inside or just see that "fight" and the red aura people like Zenos are her bad side and Gosetsu is the new good in her..thus "Gosetsu" is slain and she looses herself again to hatred and with the help of Asahi and the mirror she turns into a primal.
Someone on reddit did point out that in the japanese trailer Asahi asks us, if we would really attack an emissary because of a fallen female foe. Which kinda points out that either we are angry that he made Tsuyu remember it again or angry that she died.
I also sadly dont remember it the exact way but I thought that they said that some Ala Mhigans tried to rob the grave and they stopped them? It would really not make sense to check the grave again if he was already missing back then..or this is all a false lead and we are looking at a scene where they are gathering around a fallen friend..(I really hope not..)
Edit: Or maybe this is just a flashback that shows how we put him in his grave and thus we remember that he should be death.
I'd assume she's going to be one who gets shot by him, probably after he "justifies" it by setting her up and making her unintentionally summon or transform into a primal (Which we defeat with all the intent of saving her).
I doubt he ever intended to keep her alive to begin with, considering that's she's both a failure in Zenos' eyes and a holder of potentially sensitive information the Empire doesn't want leaking to their enemies.
Also, with how much emphasis they're putting on the moon, I'm fully expecting the primal to be Tsukuyomi, with generating hallucinations being one of its abilities (The moon was oft associated with madness or lunacy, after all), which would be a good explanation for all the weirdness we see going on in the trailer.
Dunno about this... while I get that some people like Yotsuyu and would like her to have a redemption story (making hat two female antagonists in the same expansion), I feel we'd be fighting the Primal because: it's our duty as WoL's, plus the danger Primals are overall. Saving her is probably a lost cause.
If she becomes a Primal, then she's going to die. She doesn't have the Echo, so she can't pull off a Shiva and will instead fizzle away like Louisoix and Thordan. If she summons the Primal, then odds are she might be tempered by it and would then need to be executed because of that.
I don't think the WoL would be so pissed off at him if she was a lost cause.
In any case, I'm going to be disappointed if he manages to get away from this incident unscathed unless they make his eventual downfall extremely satisfying, though I'm honestly not sure what kind of role he could serve past this story arc since he's not going to be able to pull the same stunt again and unless he becomes a Resonant (Assuming he isn't one already and we just don't know yet), he doesn't seem like much of a physical threat.
The thing I'm most curious about is what the heck Zenos is aiming to get out of this whole matter, because he seemed pretty resigned to his fate at the end of Stormblood, and I'd think if he just wanted to fight us again he'd be more direct about it.
I have a feeling the Zenos in the trailer-
-is just a copy created by the Primal. Same can be applied to Gosetsu (which can probably mean the trailer is showing us what happens when you fail the DPS check/add phase. Zenos wins, kills the memories with Gosetsu and the Primal/Yotsuyu massacres those Yotsuyu abhors).
Zenos' dialogue in the trailer could even just be from an Echo flashback.
Even if his dialogue was from a flashback (Perhaps from before we "killed" him), it still leaves the question of just what it was he wanted Asahi to do for him and why.
He was made "his chosen agent to sound the warning bell", but just what is it he's trying to warn everyone of? He doesn't seem like the sort to do fear-mongering by spreading the news that he's still alive, unless his intent is make a grand return to challenge us again, plus we're still not sure whether or not it's even the real Zenos and not an Ascian meat puppet.
I think I'm more curious about how 4.3 is going to play out then any other patch I've been around for, honestly.
It might sound cruel but I really hope that they go that way and not another redemption arc for a person that has done such horrible things. This way they would show that we cant save everyone.
It think the japanese trailer is still talking about a female foe. Which would make it Yotsuyu since she is not really our companion anyway. (We only take care of her because she lost her memory)
Dunno, the DRK questline and HW kinda already touched on the we can't save everyone part
All of this assumes there will be a primal in the first place... while more trials than not are primals, the possibility that it's not isn't something that should be discarded.
That does leave everything up in the air, but it's nice to not be able to predict how everything's going to go for once. The protagonists will come out on top, of course, but what's going to be lost in the fire remains unknown.
Well they did say "face the new Primal introduced in 4.3 at E3" in the Live Letter, so...
Would be awesome if we get thrown a curve ball and the incoming fight is Yojimbo.
I am still curious if the new crafting stuff may be the daily crafting quests for 4.X since we are done with the two new Beast Tribes introduced in 4.X.
Since they did not show the trial in the trailer we can kinda assume that these NPC fights are either before or afterwards. So that is already not the trial. Other than Zenos coming back and giving us another fight I just cant see any of the NPCs being so hard on us, that we need an 8 man trial..I mean I still see all of those as solo fights in the story itself but wouldnt it feel a bit boring to just kill NPCs with other people.
SE loves sticking to stuff they already did before. In HW the first 2 primals are beastmen related and then a story related one that was powered by a outside source (or at least buffed) Byakko is part of a (possible) chain the 4 Lords. Byakko is also the SB equivalent to Sephirot. So right now we are looking at the SB equivalent of Nidhogg, which was no primal but a boss to end a story arc.
Which means if they stick to formula Zenos would have a high likelihood. He like Nidhogg was a dungeon boss and his death would end a story arc.
However the trailer shows imo a inner struggle od yotsuyu in which she will lose to darkness ( zenos cuts down gosetsu) and then the WoL destroys that darkness, i dont think that version of zenos is any more but a image.
That fight will imo be the catalyst for the trial but i dont think it will be zenos ... i think asahi will see the failure and use the mirror to sacrafice his sister in order to destroy the WoL who took his "friend"/"saviour" zenos and then also his sister.
And this rollercoaster leaves me with the following options. Asahi himself will be the trial or whatever is caused by the mirror. A small chance for zenos but not likely.
I also think she will die which closes her redemption arc early. Just my 2 cents.
Zenos technically already had his big fight in the form of shinryu also this would be the first time repeating this formula since 2.3 wasn't like this, not to mention that the only time they had a secret trial before, it was nabriales we could say that the secret trial will be elidubus based on that, though the moon theme really points towards a primal
You're all over thinking it. It's going to be a namazu. One is going to see the mirror pop out and want it and get taken over by what's inside the mirror. Yes, I'm just kidding and I know that kind of out from left field stuff suits Hildibrand more. Sorry I had to try and make sense of the one that's high or dead that's part of their mount and why they're like that. Please continue with the serious conversation. You know who we haven't seen in the trailer or in the screen shots on the patch site? Yugiri. So, maybe it's not his sister he kills. :(
Mh, that's true we haven't really seen her
The fact that he refers to the the individual as a fallen foe could really only suggest Yotsuyu.
we know it'll be a primal fight cause in the live letter they goofed and said, "the new primal fight". Said as in written documentation.
Well, if they said in the Live Letter that it's a primal then it's probably a primal. And if the other languages are saying Asahi is taunting the Warrior of Light over having killed a female foe, he probably kills Yotsuyu. (This detail would naturally be omitted from the EN script; English is an unusually gender-neutral language.)
Ah well, I'm sure there will still be some surprises in store, and we still don't know what the primal in question is. With the lunar focus I'd bet on Tsukuyomi or Kaguya, but... who knows?
OMG, Kaguya, yes. That would be much better if it was Yotsuyu who became the primal...
Although, not that I want this to happen, but with the most recent trailer, what about Gosetsu? I mean his name is similar to the Japanese word for moon, Gosetsu, Getsu. I doubt that's it but its an interesting thought.
They didn't say it, but then when they were showing slides for E3 the wording included primal fight from 4.3. So they have kept it hush hush to the name. I do wonder if the name of the fight is really as spoilery as a title we got that later was changed was.
If the phrase "you shall be my chosen agent yadda yadda ya" is said by the revived zenos in the trailer we can confirm that asahi and him are in league completely (what does that part of the trailer says in the jp version? to me that voice reminded of zenos so that's my hypothesys)
It could be but he seems to talk about a foe in the japanese trailer. And Yugiri should not be a foe to us. IMO it makes sense that he kills her if she is of no further use for her or tries to resist. I mean he is the same person that sold her as a child.
In the german trailer it sounds like Zenos wanted to show someone how to summon a primal. ("Desweiteren werde ich dich in die Geheimnisse der Götzenbeschwörung einweihen")
Zenos has already made it apparent that he sees Garlemalds agenda to eradicate all primals/eikons from Hydalyn foolish. what he plans on doing with it after its summoned is another story. we know he can take control of them but what is he gonna do if his plain is get Asahi to summon one? from what i understand he's probably still in Garlemald.
It honestly wouldn't surprise me if it turns out that Asahi has gotten a similar Resonant treatment to Zenos, perhaps not strong enough to control a primal on Shinryu's level but enough for a lesser one.
That Primal-sounding voice in the trailer saying someone would pay for what they had done in blood was distinctly male, too.
Under The Moonlight could also be a reference to the literal moon https://youtu.be/ScUnREYmAfs
I guess we won't see him directly but in an echo vision after everything it's resolved, point was that the resonant experiments could've been sanctioned by the emperor, while this might still be true I'd say it's safe to assume now that at least the inner circle of zenos' sycophants are more loyal to him than to the emperor itself
as much as i wanted to feel that was apart of Msq dialog, I'm trying not to get my hopes up that it is indeed Asahi going all primal on us. I've thought of many theories and Asahi using his own resonant to dish out a reckoning by way of primal control was one of them. Also we hear Alphinuad say "without our knowledge and expertise, our new friends would be hard pressed to contend for a foe whose death is but a minor inconvenience" who are our new friends? hmmm. so many theories.
I thought it was made clear from the get go that they weren't on the same page. I don't think Zenos "hates" Varis, like he did his father, appatently. But each generation is showing more "tact" as it were. Varis "dislikes" eikons/primals but realises blindly going in only makes things worse for them. And Zenos doesn't appear to view non Garleans as "savages" per se. Fordola, Yotsuyu, and Grynwaht show this as he puts more faith in them than actual Garleans. He still treats them like crap occasionally and thinks them beneath him, but thats more about him than Garlemald.
I believe that the Au Ra on the right is actually a Dark Knight with their Mendacity weapon Odenta equipped. That's also their Mendacity gear, just dyed a different color. If you pause at the right time in video (or watch it in slow motion), he goes back to the Dark Knight default battle stance.
Which makes me think that this might be the dungeon, not the trial, since it was stated that they wouldn't be showing it during the trailer.
