This is the demand price, get used to it. This is the housing market and you need to understand that it is PLAYER driven. Someone yesterday sold a small on my server (Siren) for 20mil because they liked the location and where it was (lavender beds). You may not like the housing market but thats the way it is. I do not like the housing market IRL but they sell for what they sell for because the demand is high and people want a place of their own. I was lucky enough to get a good sized home for my family last year and it is worth 40 grand More now then it was when we purchased it. The market is the way it is.

You can NOT ask someone to relinquish the land they paid millions for without a profit at all. If that were the case, any house I purchase I will sit on and NEVER relinquish until this game goes under. Other people will do the same until SE either allows the housing market to continue to boom and make it an actual market like IRL and in Ultima Online, or they FORCE people to lose their homes.

This is what is NOT ok. This is NOT real life. Real Life things SHOULD not have to apply to a video game much less an MMO. We should NOT have to play Real Estate in a game that is meant to be an escape from the real world.

If I wanted to play real world economics I wouldn't do it in a video game. What happens when you quit this game or in 20 years they take it down? Do you suddenly die? No. Because it's not real. Therefore real life should NOT pertain to MMO's and video game fantasy worlds.

Or they actually make housing a thing for people and give us enough plots. Only the desperate are reacting to your personal housing market, most people go "welp, can't buy a house."

i dont care where the house is people should not be selling their houses for more than what people can actually earn, i mean it takes 24 hours just to get 4 leve quests things and you only get around 200-400 gil and the quests are bad to cos you only get between 100-200 gil making it impossible to get the certain amount neede to buy the house and it seems like if you want a house you need to be in a free company that way you can pool all your money into one lot and buy the house, it is rediculous to sell housing for roughly 18million gill to someone who cant even acquire that amount and i dont think i am supposed to mention this but when the elder scrolls online comes out there will be no housing in that game so is there any chance the producers can make getting a house in this game a lot easier please that way you get to keep your subscribers or at least make this game a free to play game with no subscriptions

Its valid to have an opinion. now here is mine:

I play this game for the semi real world economy. so do a lot of people. Thats what keeps me subbing, and what keeps money going into SE's pockets. I also pay for the extra retainers, because its 100% worth it to me.

The game is what you make of it. Personally, I wish SE would do more features like they did housing. Airships, Ventures, Mining claims, Teleports, equipment, Raid access, lets make them all player value driven! I want to have more fun with this game, and this is how you do it!

Dude, if you arent making money, that doesnt mean that its impossible to do. Gil is ridiculously easy to make. I mean, just desynth bridesmaid shoes and sell what comes out, and you can make a 500k plus a day, without even having any crafts above 30. figuratively, Gil falls from trees, shoots out from every fountain, and is spoonfed in our daily diet. if you arent grabbing it, thats completely on you.

Personally, I think they released houses too cheaply. if they were more expensive, as in at least marginally on the profit you make from having one, at least there would be less people just buying and leaving.

I have an FC and a personal house, and I support a weekly maintenance fee of 1 mil a week to keep the plot. Housing problem solved.

I'm just saying, this game has a MAJOR imbalance between the amount of gil we receive, and the number of options to spend it on. I'm sitting here with enough money to buy 3 large houses, and I have nothing else to spend it on. gear? got it with tomes. minions? bought em. houses? have 2 larges total. I literally give gil away 2-3 times a week, just to get rid of the amounts of surplus that the game mechanics rain upon us. That, my friends, is something I wish they could address.

A lack of gil sinks is a major concern, I agree. What it means is that the rich get ever richer cause once you've melded all your stuff there's literally nothing you have to spend money on anymore. Repairs aren't a problem, especially if you're a megacrafter(Which, BTW: Not everyone is! And that's OK, and the game shouldn't only belong to them!). Teleports aren't an issue. Nothing takes away your money cause you have nothing to spend it on. This, by the way, is exacerbated by limited housing, because it is a closed system. After the houses are established, there's nothing else anyone's gonna buy related to housing.

Which is exactly why player driven economies are a bad idea in this game. You have people who've been pooling money since this game was so bad they burned it to the ground and rebuilt it, how could making people have to directly compete with each other for things like the ability to mine a resource or travel from point to point even work? It'd just become another thing for the super super rich to play with. And that's bad, because this game is not restrictive at all. You can be everything. 20 dudes can whack the same 'unspoiled' node. There's like one real end game raid and it's in the duty finder. This game is about experiencing things, not stopping others from experiencing things.

its not just the gil people in FC are also buying personal houses making it impossible for people who are not in a FC to buy a house and houses are being sold when they were between 1 and 2 mill then there is building which costs 1 million to build the walls and roof so you are talking around 3-4 million gil for a personal house so how is that easier

Please use punctuation. It's incredibly difficult to read your posts when you don't use any punctuation at all; it exists for a reason.

Your highest class is a level 35 fisher according to your lodestone profile. I would suggest you focus on getting a class to 50 and sell things on the market if you want to make gil... It's really not difficult for a non-crafter to make a couple of million in a few weeks with a little concerted effort. The real problem with housing is the availability, and it's not something that will ever be solved by the devs adding more wards. We need an instanced alternative for those that cannot buy a house on a ward and we need the houses of inactive players to be relinquished as it is simply unfair that people that don't play can deny access to content for those that do.

If you mean Mining Claims as in World of Warcraft; Someone taps a node it's theirs and disappears once it's used up. NO. This was how it was in 1.0. Except everyone could mine from it and eventually the node would get used up and then the swarm would move to the next node. 1.0 Mining was also extremely difficult. It was like a mini game so you had to get in fast and precise hits or else the swarm would deplete the node before you got a thing from it.

Player Value Driven things as you mention would in fact make people quit. Then where is your market? Where is your gil income? It gets cut drastically. Your idea of fun against everyone else' idea of fun will be different all the time.

No, by mining claims, I more mean like a directory in a major city, where you can register to claim a piece of the map for your mining needs. then, only you can mine in that area. Different areas contain different items, so no one can obtain everything, and different materials need to be traded.

This way, lets say you are a miner, you get a piece of land that has mythril, and you sell mythril. other people cant get it, because they dont have the plot, which creates a demand.

One miner per area wouldn't create nearly enough material for the whole server actually it would be hard to create enough material for only a handfull of People. You seem to think that only the ten richest Player should be able to get anything in this game... I want to remind you that no matter how good you are as a crafter if there is no one left to buy you cannot sell so maybe you should think about how limiting every Piece of Content to a degree as you sugested here would also ruin your fun.

This is actually the problem we are facing now. Since every piece of content has no gating whatsoever on it, and everyone can do everything, markets are nearly nonexistent, because people see prices, and choose to just gather it themselves rather than buying products.

The current ffxiv market is flooded with supply, and has a distinct lack of demand. Thats why most crafted items sell at a net loss on the price of their shards, and a large majority of items sell less than 10 quantity per month. no one buys, because everyone can make it.

I personaly think prices a fine but that might be because we ar eon different servers, the current decrease in buyers is simply because of people getting bored before the expansion and taking some time off (at least that is my guess).
I wouldn't necessarily be against gatting of some content/items if it is done right, what you suggested (letting only one person mine a specific resource is way to extreme) i also wouldn't like gatting through gil instead maybe with time/complexity or difficulty (but that's just personell taste) and I also think that gatting of housing simply through quantity is not good as they seem to add a lot of content for housing in the future (if at least small houses would be readily avaiable and medium/big houses would be limited that would be far more ok)

Sigh... I really dont get where people think they should be ENTITLED to buy a house, without any consequences whatsoever, and have zero accountability. You are literally buying server space, from a game that has expressed multiple times thatthey have to specifically limit certain features due to lack of server space. We cant have inventories over 100 items. We cant have more than 2 retainers without paying. We have to deal with both instance servers and regular servers being locked to new players, until other ones leave or are logged off.

Having a house costs SE money, above and beyond what your subscription can pay for. Our subscription buying power is stretched so razor thin, we cannot even afford to police the rampant problems plaguing our servers anymore (RMT, Bots, Trolls, Stalkers). Here we are, trying to find ways to at least cut out the people who arent utilizing a house, and buy and then unsub, so that people who actually USE a house can have one. Think of it this way. You arent just buying a house. You are literally buying a claim to a dedicated physical portion of SE's servers. That, in my opinion, should cost money.

And in such, you are making a complicated excuse for Square's inability to deliver working housing systems. Other games don't have this problem, this isn't some sort of insane undertaking. It's not working, so it should be fixed.

Being patient as problems are fixed is one thing. Deciding a problem is unsolvable is another.

But the problem is.. SE is way too deep to overhaul the entire housing system, I don't see it happening even as a remote possibility.
So most of us have accepted it for what it is and work around the problem, you're not willing to do that.. And well, you may be waiting for a few more years until SE takes care of this issue, you can either accept it, buy a house from a reseller, or.. just go without housing until SE fixes it, when? I honestly don't think they'll ever have enough plots for ease of access, especially for Balmung.


At least with the suggestions Tocsin is making, it WOULD make homeowners to be more conscious about their decisions, and it will likely make a lot of people relinquish their houses to avoid the upkeep. I know I would give up my personal housing which I only used for crafting/ease of MB access if there was a constant upkeep associated with it.. and I would also think twice about picking up multiple house plots as well.


I think your biggest hurdle is that you think everybody agrees with your idea that housing in this game is a disaster..
Some people actually LIKE the way it was implemented, with its limitations and exclusivity. Some people LIKE the fact that there are neighborhoods, however small it happens to be.. your philiosophy of instanced housing for everyone at affordable prices have been practiced by many MMO developers before.. But clearly, that's not what SE had in mind for this game.. SE doesn't need excuses for the housing as is, nor is there a clear inability to deliver on their part.. SE wants houses with wards and plan on expanding them as time goes by and maybe this was their idea all along. That doesn't make the housing a disaster just because it's not what you think housing ought to be.
Personally, I could go either way, I'm not very deeply bothered by how housing is in this game and I'm sure I'm not the only one that's somewhat satisfied with the housing in ff14.

I get this game has data storage issues. It was built from the ashes of a game so terrible downright extraordinary actions were taken, and we're playing in what amounts to a gaming miracle. I bet all servers are clones of each other and they can't add space to one without adding space to all of 'em, like... someone said on around page 2. But that blows and should be fixed cause not every server has the same needs. I'm willing to wait, I've been waiting. I'm not willing to decide housing is fine when people can't get houses cause there's no more land. This is also not a Balmung problem. There are 1440 plots, so other servers are running out too. It's not some sort of radical notion there's not enough space for houses. Cause there's not enough space for houses on my and more servers.

I think in order to achieve what you'd like to see, SE needs to overhaul the entire system.. I don't really know why either, but ya know when SE is struggling to provide enough instance servers for duties (during peak times, this does happen) I just don't see how SE can achieve more wards without something drastic happening.

Also, the lack of housing and implementation of new wards is one of the rare things SE has officially addressed, although not in a very helpful manner, mainly that the new wards won't be added in 3.0, and Ishgard won't have housing any time soon.. and that new wards may be coming later, but well after 3.0. I know it's not what you wanted to hear from them but they did address it, unlike plethora of other issues that are currently being raised by the playerbase.

So with all these information out in the open, some of us just decided to work with what we've got. When life gives you lemons.. when SE gives you overpriced, limited houses, you pay the premium to buy it if you want it bad enough.. OR you can wait for new wards, probably won't be coming for another half year and even then, on Balmung, it'll probably all be gone within a day..


Don't assume that some of us are disagreeing with you on the basis of principal, I agree with some of what you're saying.. For example why housing, a feature that is the most utilized by RP'ers and "casual" players that just travel around places to places, was implemented in a way that it's most accessible to the hardcore farmers. It does puzzle me a bit
Personal houses are either owned by crafters or people who SB for quick pile of gil.. Many RPers simply don't have the resources and it may go against the RP "lore" to farm so much gil but that's the direction SE chose and we just work with what we've got.

I think it may have more to do with that not all servers have their plots taken up yet didn't they wait to add more till every servers plot was bought? Also don't forget they screwed up housing when they put fc and personal in the same wards no no no that's wrong they screwed it up when they decided to use wards Again.

People suggested upkeep, automatic relinquishment after certain periods etc., and I'm generally against that - as SE told us when they introduced houses that there would be no upkeep, that we wouldn't lose our house if we didn't play for a while, so people went and paid the ridiculous fortune they charged for houses at the time, if they could afford it. Going against their word and slapping fees and restrictions on it in retrospect after the full price was paid up would be an atrocity.

But, how about making a fee/auto-relinquish system only for secondary houses? Make FC houses exempt, the first personal house per account is exempt as well, but any additional personal houses/plots you own will incur either a small fee in gil, or be relinquished if you don't pay a subscription for, say, 3-6 months.

That way it won't be an issue for any of the less wealthy house-owners, and it won't force people to keep paying their subscription just to keep their house. If you plan to quit for a few months, just sell your additional plots first, you can keep your FC house and your favorite plot+house indefinitely.

I don't think there is a good solution here to be honest. If, as Wards fill up, new Wards open, then what we'll end up seeing is old Wards becoming Ghost Towns as the older players leave and so forth, and the newest Wards become the desired ones since they'll have more active folks in them.


Automatic Relinquishing of Plots: This may be an option, but I think it should only work -if- the player in question no longer has an active subscription or time on their account, and only after their account has been at that state for 1-3 months. Paying Players should be given priority treatment over those who have quit, and that is a fact.

It's a fun journey through time to go back to the beginning of this thread, where I was polite and optimistic and very specific.

If your server doesn't have any plots left, that's an issue too. It's an issue of how housing was made, and I expect it's across all legacy servers. If lots and lots of servers don't have enough land, this forum should be choking in "Land Needs Are Unmet On ________." Maybe someone'd pay attention then.

They don't need to overhaul the entire system, but they could add an alternate housing option instead of the Residential Areas (which imo should have been left strictly for FCs).

That's what we all thought personal housing was going to be, but then it wasn't.

Personal Airship? Rent-a-house in Ishgard? They have options going forward, I'd hope they consider other forms of housing to alleviate stress of the current system.

It's my belief that they actually were working on something that was separate, but for whatever reason they couldn't get it to function well or at all. So this was the plan b so to speak. It's terrible and made YoshiP look like a liar, but it is what it is and as long as everyone keeps worshiping him we have more of the same to look forward to.


I love a lot of things about this game, but they need to hire some people who can give them good advice on how to manage larger populations. Most of their team never had to work with more than 250k ish total people. I think FFXI maxed out at 500k or so at its peak. These populations are just overwhelming to SE and they don't know what to do. Add to that the abyssal equipment they are using and it's a recipe for disaster, not a true next-gen mmo.

I get that the struggle is real, but I am highly disappointed in their lack of professionalism in this matter.

Just ran up against this recently.

I joined some friends on Balmung, which was billed as a RP-server (by them). Population/age/costs weren't mentioned, probably because they weren't experienced enough to know about them. We've "heard" about all these features that are locked behind housing (stables, etc.) and that future ones will also require property (airship crafting?).

All the land is taken, and just the cost for "releasing" a property to sell (which is sketchy to begin with) is many many times the total gil accrued by all of us over the lifetimes of our characters. That's to say nothing of the cost of the property after that, or the gil we actually have.

It makes me wonder if that's why I get spammed by RMT traders every 5-10 minutes. It seems like this is something that could literally take our FC years to buy. New features in Heavensward that require property are only available to some tiny fraction of the server? It seems like a broken system.

It is very much a broken system, although on a server like Balmung, I would expect land to be quite difficult to obtain even if there was some mechanism of evicting inactive players.

You will probably have to wait until 3.1 to experience that much of the content billed for 3.0, as rumors claim that SE is concerned that introducing new housing wards along with all of the new areas would lead to significant server problems.

You can rightly blame the vocal minority of land-owners for complaining cacophonously when SE revealed their plans for inactivite lot purges, as they believed themselves entitled to take away content from paying, active subscriptions while retaining the luxury of unsubscribing and keeping all of the houses they purchased. The sense of entitlement there is breath-taking.

Also blame SE for backing down on their plan to evict inactive subscriptions from their homes. The customer isn't right if they're not paying.

I was just wondering if there is a list of servers where they have ANY plots left. =)

That's really not a pertinent point to argue about the cost of housing.. It's the availability that's the issue at hand.. Cost is perfectly fine as is. If it were any lower, you'd just experience even more difficulty in obtaining one. Player vs. Player relinquish fee may seem high but if you consider mansions costing 50m it's really not such a huge amount of gil.. and if more land were available, the relinquish fees would naturally drop to a more reasonable amount as well.

You can rightly blame the vocal minority of land-owners for complaining cacophonously when SE revealed their plans for inactivite lot purges, as they believed themselves entitled to take away content from paying, active subscriptions while retaining the luxury of unsubscribing and keeping all of the houses they purchased. The sense of entitlement there is breath-taking.

I have a house. But I wouldnt care that much about losing it, since I could just get another one. (even without receiving a refund on the first)
However I imagine it's not that simple for someone that saved up a long time, or someone that is on a server with no plots available.

You would take from others to satisfy your own needs. Rather then doing that, ask for a solution that helps everyone, perhaps?



Altho as a sidenote, I'd like to see you save up in 3 months of hard work(or even much longer), to see your house lost in a single month of doing nothing.

I'm game. Have you got a solution? The caveat is that it can't be "add more wards", because SE has made it quite clear they cannot afford to add an endless number of non-instanced wards, as expending financial and personnel resources to satisfy the game experience of non-paying, non-customers is the bullet train to forcibly-replaced-by-the-board-of-directors town.

Are we going to get more wards? Yes. Is it going to be in 3.0? Probably not. Is that going to bar people from airships? Plausibly. Will the wards fill up with empty houses owned by inactive accounts again, leaving us right back where we started? Definitely. So. Think outside the more wards box.

So what has the community come up with solutions for this? I've seen most threads that state to kick out most of the tenants that are inactive but I don't think that would solve anything at all.

Instant houses similar to the inm might work. Not really sure if anyone has suggested that. If someone did, what would be the issue for instant housing? I mean the technicalities for it. Just curious.

It was suggested before, and in my opinion it is the best solution.

Just make a map with a nice big inn and let players have instanced rooms inside. Maybe, even, instanced mini-gardens and stables.
Actually, you don't even need to make a map, there are already inns in all cities.
