- PotD/HoH - both as alternative to leveling and as challenge for smaller groups/solo
- Primals - middle ground between Savage and NMs. Mount-farms are a great thing to do with friends/your FC!
- 24-man-raids - specially when they're "current content" and you still need your weekly drop. Lots of fun with friends and voice-chat!
- Maps - great FC/LS-content!
- PvP - I know that this isnt the prime-feature SE would like it to be, but queue-times have improved a lot, so apparently people are playing it after all...?
- Hunts - niche-open-world content? Maybe! Still content, specially for committed hunters in tight communities. I'm always impressed reading about certain servers and their hunt-communities.
- Crafting and Gathering - not going into depth here, and while this is mainly solo-content its also the kind of content that lets you help other people by providing them with gear (maybe even free of charge!)
- Gold Saucer - yes, mainly minigames, but that doesnt prevent it from being fun at times!
- Mainstory and storytelling Sidequests
Also a couple of things my friends and I like(d) to do:
Weekly Khloe books, minimum ilvl runs of old content like Coil, jumping puzzles, actually creating puzzles and riddles for each other
I'm not saying that something like an adjusted version of Hamlet Defense might not be a good addition to the game! But I am saying that I highly doubt that 1.0 was so, so much better just because it had that one piece of content.
I'm also unsure whats so special about the "job quests" you keep bringing up again and again. Can anyone enlighten me how job quests in 1.0 were different from the job quests we have now...? I could have sworn I remember doing job quests, involving stories and lore related to the job in question...!
Edit: And I even forgot about a lot of content - Beast Tribes, all the stuff you can collect, GLAMOUR! (the glamour-system was added with one of the 2.X-patches if memory serves right)... not even counting leveling all jobs to 70 and probably quite a few more things. Not all of them will keep you busy for an entire evening, obviously. But they dont have to - you can pick and chose, mix and match what you want to do!
I always think of the game like an All-You-Can-Eat buffet: It offers a lot of things, not everyone will like everything and not everything is totally filling. And you can go and pick the things you like.
And I also recall how I acted around those kind of buffets as a little kid: I was a picky eater, didnt like anything... so taking me there was pretty much pointless. So my parents either didnt or shruged with their shoulders - "There is enough food for you to pick from, dont complain about being hungry!"
So whenever I see some go on about how there is no content (that they would like to do) I'm wondering... are they just a very, very picky eater and went to the wrong kind of restaurant...? -

There's probably more people that raid and clear Savage than were present at the end of 1.0's life. So if raiding isn't a successful piece of content in your eyes due to low participation rates, what does that say about 1.0 when it was taken offline, since the participation in it was even lower?
You hate this game, so do everyone a favor - especially yourself - and unsubscribe. I have my own beefs with this game, but at least I don't spend the entirety of my time on here complaining about it. If I truly hated it as much as you do, I'd stop paying for it.

The issue with raid content currently is that it is way too much exclusive, in the way that you do need 7 other people (neither less nor more, if you only have 6 friends you're screwed, and if you have more than 7 some will be unhappy). The only thing I missed was the graphics were better Imo, the gear when it had set bonus on them and the materia with it extra effects but not the way you had to get the materia. I generally don't raid because I fine the gear pretty underwhelming and don't want to waste other peoples time in gear I could care less about anyway. None of that gear is required for any of the content outside of it anyways just to shave off a few minutes on your instance timer.
But 1.0 had many issues and I'm not looking back all I hoping for is if their doing solo limited job thing is add more to the open world itself beside what we have currently. /Shrugs -

I didn't play 1.0. I did stalk its release, but the lack of character customization or any ingame feature that actually sounded *fun* made me stay away.
From all I've heard, the only thing that I find awesome from that game is the final part, because it was that, final, and thus it was full of crazy events and nice details (in fact, most of the 1.0 features OP is listing are just from the final event alone?). Other than that... it sounds a bit like a pain to me ;
I wouldn't change all the FFXIV's current features (especially the fluff content for us screenshooters) for what little 1.0 had to offer. -

So if that's the problem, maybe playing on a Japanese server isn't for you. If you can't connect to another server, then maybe complaining about that when it's a well-known problem and pinning it on the game is a bad idea.
In case it isn't clear to you: From what most people here are saying, the problem isn't that people aren't being made to talk to you, so you don't have friends because the game doesn't prioritize that it's that nobody else is having that problem so it can't be a design flaw with the game, but something you are doing. It's not that hard to search YouTube for 1.X gameplay. I've watched videos of Ifrit and Aurum Vale, and it's terrible; it's slower than combat in FFXI. Throw in massive copy-pasted zones combined with random high level mobs to create an artificial sense of danger and it's obvious to understand why they had to shut the game down and rebuild it.
As for these people waxing nostalgic about 1.23, as many have said, it was "fun" because it was a transition period. The devs did fun things, the community was good because people were excited about the prospect of the rebuild, etc.
These people may think 1.2 was more fun, and that's fine, but the numbers prove out that people prefer 2.0. The fact that Yoshida is able to run a subscription game with microtransactions in the age of free-to-play, and deliver 4 expansions speaks more than a bunch of YouTubers whining the game sucks. -

I do however agree the game does need a lot more flexibility in group sizes. I have said several times it's quite anti social when you can't do things with friends. you either need to drag along some strangers who have there own agendas or you leave people behind anddon't include them. and i have often said i think this is a reason so many groups of players fall apart.
Back when potd added the 51-200 floors we made a group of 4 to climb it together and had several people saying they wanted to do it but sorry you can't come. and doubly sorry we cant go with you because we haven o empty saves...

You can enter the current ones provided you have the content unlocked and meet item level requirements. I have other friends that raid that aren't in my static, but that doesn't hinder us. We still do plenty of other things together in-game and talk frequently on Discord. It helps that many of us are different in terms of the types of progression and goals we have - some of my friends don't mind a more casual raid schedule of a couple nights a week where as I would prefer one with more nights and more hours; some don’t really want to min-max where as I do. We have expressed desires to raid together, but a lot of us are at different points in progression, and, again, have different goals. You don’t make a static with players who have varying goals; it will never work out in the end, because someone will have to give on what they want.
Being unable to raid with my friends has never stopped me from raiding, nor has it ever stopped them. And now I have a static that are my friends.
The "social aspect" is a very small reason why players don't raid in this game. Any argument on this forum about why players don't do Savage would show you that.
EDIT: Also, if you think I disregard the social aspects of raiding, I would invite you to listen to my static’s raid chat sometime. Considering the amount of memeing on each other we do, I would hardly call us a non-social group.

Yes, 2.0 graphics，UI，QoL changes are wonderful, no one denies that.
and ARR gaming experience is great at the beginning.
And because the 1.2x experience, I was a white knight too when 2.0 just released,
why I had to defend 2.0? here's a little story: it's because a guy in my FC, he's a XI player,
because 1.2x leave him a good impression too, he bought 4 ARR copies(that's why ARR sold a lot lol..) & gave them to his XI friends(his friends tried 1.0 & quit),
if 1.2x isn't good, he won't do that.
After 2.0 just released, he was hanging around in the game,
he run to Mor Dhona & check the tomestone vendors when he was only level 1,
after 1 or 2 days, he said: "ARR is a WOW clone". my reaction was:"WHAT? THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE, 1.2x contents are enjoyable, SE has no reason to do this."
& time had proved he's right. He & his XI friends quit ARR after one month & never comeback,
for these people, 2.0 is worse than 1.2x, it no longer has any chance
You see? many rumors you heard are wrong (1.0 sucks =/= 1.23 sucks) , it's just like 2.0, many contents in 2.0 had been done wrong,
SE just fired XV director you know? Too many things are wrong now....
