Drop Rates of mounts from Extreme primals & Dungeons

It is perfectly possible to play this game in a manner that isn't 8+ hours a day in the basic content. Things like Omega, the EX trials, 24 man raids, minigames, minions, mounts, glamour, crafting, gathering, etc. This is all optional stuff that you can choose to do or not do. Some of them may have higher cover charges than others. I'm curious about Savage. But after being a hardcore in EverQuest, I'm allergic to schedules in MMOs. So in that case the cover charge is too high for me and I miss out. It doesn't mean the game isn't still accessible. Just that one part. And it's only in-accessible to me based on my preferences.

As I already mentioned 99 runs seems like a lot, but if you wait until the content is older you can overgear it and get multiple clears at a very quick pace.

For example if a fight that you overgeared later in a patch cycle took average 5 mins to clear you could get 12 clears in one hour...you could get the mount with just an hour a day within less than two weeks.

20 hours (thats assuming a realistic 15 minutes per run with 99 runs needed, so not taking into account that you could get lucky and just get the drop) are an INHUMAN amount of time? Oh boy must you have suffered during the mainquest... thats supposed to take 60-80 hours per expansion after all.

If you dont have the time after the stuff you choose over the mount... to bad? But dont start being this ridiculous in your complains.
20 hours max for a mount. Stretched over however long you want. 10 hours a month for 2 months. 15 minutes a day for three months to get some optional, cosmetic content that isnt required at all to play the game. I cant see anything "inhuman" about that...

And maybe they're not super worried about the people that want to be kept busy (even though I'm pretty sure they are aswell... but it doesnt make for a good statment to say something like "Yeah, we want to make this as grindey as possible, so people stay subbed even though there isnt enough new content to keep them entertained!) - but I'd like to point out again how those mounts with their low droprates and 99 tokens are keeping those primals alive as content for much longer than it would be without them. And thats a good thing because it allows people who are only reaching this content now to still find PF/DF-groups to run it.
If mounts would be as easy to get as you're proposing EX-primals would be a thing for one-two weeks after their release and everyone who didnt catch the train then will have a pretty hard time finding a group - we're already hearing complains like that and requests to make the old EX-primals more attraktive again, so people will re-run them.
Why do you think did they add songs to them after they were outdated? Why did they add new recipes for glamour-items using EX-primal-drops?
They did that so that even people who got the mount would have a reason to go in again.

...and you want to take a pretty good way of keeping that content alive for anyone who might be a bit late(r) to the party away because you feel 20 hours of farming is to much to ask...
Word of advice: Even if people tell you that relics are meant for casuals... never pick up a relic-quest. Its absolutly inhuman. Torture, almost...

People complained never getting the mount, so they added the 99 token exchange for very unlucky people. Can't deal with that? Then don't do it. At this rate if we listen we should as well create a char and get everything on it before the tutorial.

I still don't understand how this is any different to Savage for the best gear - should that be dumbed down too for the people who can only play an hour a day?

Do the work/grind, get the reward. Nothing needs to change.

If you think its too much effort/time, the rewards aren't for you.

Rng drops and timegates are an integral part of what keep mmos active, like it or not. Devs need to not cave into the instant gratification "Im too casual" crowd as its simply justifying player laziness. Ffxiv is way more casual friendly that ffxi. The no time excuse doesnt fly.

Yes it is, this game is not named grinding mounts FFXIV, there is other stuff to do , like the dailies and weeklies, you know stuff YOU HAVE A TIME LIMIT ON! leaves no time to farm stuff like mounts for that long.

There is lots of casual content - not all content has to be casual though. Infact those mounts are supposed to be special - which makes them pretty much not-casual. And thats fine. Not everything has to be instantly available for everyone. You want something special? Put some effort into it.

Let me also do a little math for you:
The average EX-primal takes 10 minutes to clear (that doesnt account for wipes ofc, but at least our two current EX-primals are pretty easy fights that should be wipe-free... or you should be looking for a new group). That means: 6 kills an hour. So 16,5 hours for 99 kills - we can round that up to 20, if you like to account for wipes and the odd slower run. Still would only require 2.5 days of that 8-hour-play-schedulde of yours. And thats without taking into account that you could get the mount by rolling high enough on it. Seems still pretty casual friendly to me...

Those are more mid to long-term goals. Something you can work towards, thanks to the tokens now.
We really, really dont need everything in this game to be just handed out. You can be casual and enjoy this game, thats fine - but you need to be okay with not having everything instantly then.
(Seriously, you could just do like 3 runs a day - in a month you'll have your mount. Playing the game casually. All good.)

Give it up already. People will keep saying that it is not casual friendly if they don't get everything as soon as they log in for the first time. Its to much effort to farm 99 tokens (the birds would drop more than once during that time anyway) hell its even to much effort to kill the ex primal because they have to learn the fight.

...and if you choose to do other stuff about getting those mounts thats your choice... if you enjoy leveling other classes, capping tomes, doing beasttribe-dailies or whatever other content you want to do more - cool, pick that over the mount grind.
You have to realise though that you dont have to do any of that content. Not even the stuff that has a time limit. If you're only playing so, so casual what does it matter wether or not you reach the tome-cap every week? Why does it matter if you skip beasttribe-dailies for a few days? You'll finish a week later, but who cares? At this point I'm wondering if you'd be more willing to do this if you could get a max-amount of three tokens every day...
I dont know how much time you've got on your hands to play every day/week but its up to you to choose how to spend that time - and if your choice isnt mount-farming, then you dont get the mount. Simple as that. If its "pointless waste of time for no reason" for you then the mount clearly isnt worth that effort for you and thats okay. Enough people seem to think otherwise.
(And I'd hate to repeat myself but its not "pointless": Keeping old players busy while keeping groups full for fresh ones - there, two good reasons)

You might also have noticed that we dont depend on luck for those primal-mounst anymore. Remember your whol argument about 99 tokens being to much? Yeah, thats where we dont depend on luck anymore.

Your only argument is some weird interpretaion of the devs intentions - I for one understand those statments in the following way: You dont need to play 8 hours a day, each day every day but you can take breaks or play less and still be able to catch up, thanks to tome-gear and such. You can play less and effectivly play the game - I really dont understand why you believe that that statment means "You can play as little as you want and still get every special item you desire instantly"

Not the whole game is or has to be casual friendly.

That is not the issue, has nothing to do with laziness. For older games, they did not have much tech to work with, so they needed to find creative ways to prolong the life and create a difficulty level, like what Sequelitis - Castlevania 1 vs. Castlevania 2, what he spoke on 1. Now that you have better tech for developing games, you think development of them would find more creative ways to extend the life of a game. Simply beating RNG is not an achievement, nor is it an investment of work. I just want to be able do something but I can't because it takes too long. For example I have tried to get the nightmare mount but it is too rare of a drop to make a static for it to kill in a reasonable time, even doing gargua as a 5 man, around 1 min 30 sec kills , 3 mins max/ total for queuing, exiting and such.. I think it was, for 3 hours and not seeing one? Sorry that is a flaw, an oversight, too low drop rate then intended when development team makes statements like this:

It is not about being handed anything, it is about needing to invest more time then what people are able to, and it needs to be considered that messing around with inhuman RNG on these mounts is not the only content to do. You still have to deal with RNG with the weekly limit stuff, and I am sure you need complete the new 24 man thing in a week or miss out. With all the Do this or miss out weeklies and daily stuff you need to do, there isn't enough time to be doing 99 runs for a mount.

Because that's the new generation: not doing a thing and expect to get everything. Surely a game is fun when everything is given to you without doing anything. Where's the game in this anyway, who needs a game, all they need is flashy pixels because it looks cool and make them hard.

Let's say the 99 token exchange releases with 4.1; roughly a month from now. That amounts to 0.85% of hours invested on Primal farming between 4.0 and 4.1. If you consider it too much, play a different game. There is little else that can be said. It takes less time for me to play through Life if Strange.

Developers do not have infinite resources. No matter what game, genre or how innovative the content proves to be, we consume it far too quickly. You can argue until your blue in the face but it doesn't change the reality old Primals would be complete dead content by now. Want proof? Try queuing for Alexander or Coil tonight. You'll be waiting over an hour, if it ever pops to begin with. Why? No one does them because there is no reward. They don't care. Put a mount in A8N and I guarantee people will start running Brute Justice far more frequently. Calling it laziness only shows you can't appreciate the developers can't make enough content. This isn't unique to FFXIV either, but every single game released. What you're looking for is a hand out-- something you have to put in virtually no effort towards obtaining because you can't be bothered to run something more than once or twice. You are precisely the type of player developers don't cater to. Why? You'll only do everything a couple times, meaning nothing lasts beyond a week. That, in turn, leads to people unsubbing.

You're yelling about there not being enough time after weekly stuff to grind mounts without realizing that for some of us we don't care about the weekly stuff. I don't care if I capped tomes/scrips or did my WT book. Don't care if my challenge log is done. Level other jobs at a lazy pace. But I can, have, and will continue to happily spend my time grinding for EX primal mounts because that is where my priorities lie.

I do not understand why you need to insist running something for 99 times is a good thing, it is pointless uncreative time sink that not everyone can do. I am shocked it is in the game to begin with and even more socked people are defending it.

You mean you can't picture people "unsubing" over things taking too long so they are unable to really play and enjoy?

Also last I checked queue times for all the primal mounts is long, that is why people make PFs for them, even when WT was new, people did not go back to them though the DF, it had to be PF.

Doing those fights through PF has always been preferable over randoming 7 strangers together. Always. You're so far out in left field with this topic. Clearly you're being disagreed with, and I'd imagine the devs also disagree considering how they implement content. That isn't them slighting you, or people with your point of view...this is them catering to what the majority wants. You are in the minority. And the majority seem to be doing just fine. What's stopping you from being part of the majority? Gonna have to come up with something beyond "it's not fair because reasons".

Thanks but no, actually it wouldn't. I genuinely don't care enough about the carrots at the end of the weekly sticks to do the weekly thing. Thus the primal mount grind feels like a rewarding use of my sub. You can disagree, I don't mind we are all different, but don't assume that given more time I would do more things.

People make PFs as you can pick and chose party setup, classes, ilv, and loot rules while also being able to requeue instantly with a full group. It makes for faster runs. Faster runs = more runs, more runs = more chances to see dogs, birds, ponies drop.


And yes, it is a time sink. Annoying as they are the game kinda needs them to keep people running things. If I was guaranteed drops on my first clear I wouldn't step foot in the EXs after getting my loot lol

Lol, its not my topic, it is just the type of the spoken minority that is on currently are all on, all it is. The Devs stated:

So it is clearly an oversight, the drop rate being too low, bugs happen, that is what the forums are for, pointing out stuff like this.

Also no, when WT was new it would not pop, it took 2 hrs to get a WT trial to appear, only for it to wipe because people did not know how to listen to me how to do the fight. Plus PF would be done to do these or some kind of premade because of the low drop rates, so this has nothing to do with helping queue times, it does not. I farmed in the range of 2-4 hours ( do not remember really) with a pt of 5 to try get nightmare and not one drop. Sorry these drop rates are too low, thinking otherwise are the ones "so far out in left field with this topic." such as your self. This is part of the reason a minority of the playerbase are on the forums, because people like your self feel the need to drown out opinions that differ from your own.

Actually it perfectly justifies it, you're on and doing things, just not mount farming. Meanwhile some of us are on mount farming instead of doing other things. Look, the only mount in this game I will agree takes too long is the hunt tiger because under perfect conditions it will take years to get it. The primal birds can all be bought with an investment of ten hours or less under perfect conditions.

And yes, I am perfectly aware that the mount grinds are carrots on the end of the sticks. They're just carrots I actually want.

Sorry to break it to you sweety, but I actually do enjoy those farms. I believe I stated that in my first comment in this thread - just because you dont enjoy that content doesnt mean that no one does.
I dont like fishing - and there is a special quest with a title I'd like to have locked behind some of the most aweful fishes in the game. Fishing isnt hard either btw, just RNG! But some people enjoy that and as far as I'm concerned they can have it! I wont demand that the quest caters to my needs, because I realise that thats content for other people who enjoy other things in the game.

When I got my Zurvan-bird - the last one I needed - after 57 runs, I was actually pretty happy on the one hand. On the other hand I found myself looking at the PF the following days, seeing all those bird-farm-parties, thinking to myself "I'd like to farm a bit more... but for what? There is nothing left for me there..."
I missed farming, because its content I enjoy.

If its not enjoyable to you: Go, do something else. You've got more things to do than time to spend it appears. You dont need to waste your time with content you dont enjoy - but leave it up to the rest of us to make our own choice there, okay?

Or do those need to be made cheaper aswell? Should the game just give you a weapon after your first kill? So you'd only need 9 more runs to get your mount, letting you move on from that content in an afternoon?

if you run 5 EXs a day you will get enough tokens for a mount in less than a month. You don't even need to really set a hard daily requirement, somedays you can run less, somedays you can run more- assuming you clear the duty a couple times a week you will be sitting on your bird/dog in a reasonable time.

Like I said you could do an hour a day later when they nerf the drop rates and you'll probably win a bird after a couple weeks of just joining farms once in awhile.

You could even just do an hour every few days and you'd still get the bird within a month probably.

I mean you ignore the fact that you can slowly work towards it at any pace. So this seems to be a "I want it NOW" problem, not actually a "it takes an inhuman amount of time" problem. I mean I am living proof right here that it isn't an inhuman amount of time needed.

Yes, because people use PF to better control the parties they want. Someone who has cleared Susano EX multiple times doesn't necessarily want to join with a group who never has. They may want a fast and efficient farm group, thus they use PF to advertise. That's just how NA and EU players operate. JP, on the other hand, uses the Raid Finder for all serious content.

That's your problem not the game's problem. There are many things to do in the game and they are not expected to be completed in full each week. You are expected to decide what is important to you and allocate your time accordingly. To say everything is important and you should be able to complete everything before each reset is unreasonable (and IMO indicates other issues). Many people here have given you great suggestions on how you could manage working on the mounts without spending all of your time running EX primals but you continue down the path of everything having to be your way. Reminds me a bit of Veruca Salt now that I think of it. So I propose that you go out and create your own MMO that you can design any way you desire as obviously FFXIV isn't meeting nor will it meet your expectations.

Maybe you have inhuman luck on other things, no idea, out it takes too much time as is to get weekly drops and weekly tome caps to put in other large time investments. It is TOO MUCH TIMER!!! to require doing 99 times of 1 thing, and that is assuming no one wipes, and ofc you are going to run into wipes, People managed to wipe on A1S and a few groups fail to DPS check meet it even though i260+

Why are you posting this? telling me what I have time for? I mean... it sounds like you are better then me so therefor it is not an issue because you manage to fit x , y ,z + weeklies. I do not have the time resource to be spending 10 hours running the same DF 99 times for a mount, that is ridiculous, that is the same as "no content" for me since people want to pull "rare rng = content (I disagree with that.

It is not "I want it now" it is " I want access to it". Running the same thing 99 times is no access, my mind is blown people are defending this system!!!!! I thought the 99 token thing was a joke, like something that isn't supposed to be there.

Someone said "adding mounts reduce queue times" so my reply to that is queue times are still hugely long for them, people only PF, so it isn't an argument to support this token system.

The other thing is the mount that drops Ala mhigan mount. You can't reasonably get that EVER! (because how the DF works) because you already at the max sync, till they lift the undersized requirement for 5.0. The drop rate on that HAS to be an oversight, the drop rate or access to it with other means should be done, surely you can at least agree to that?

Talking about not making sense. Please reread your post. Anyway in response:

There is no falling behind. It is strictly up to you if you want to reach the cap each week or spend your time doing other things. You seem to think the game should let you do anything anyway you wish. I and others are saying that is an unreasonable expectation. You have also been given some great advice on how you should be able to accommodate working on mounts. You refuse to take this advice and to try it, instead you continue to argue that it can only work your way. The fact is this is the way SE wants the game to be and you are expected to decide what is important for you to do.

For the last part I am saying it is obvious FFXIV is not the game for you based on all of your negative posts and always claiming the way it works is unfair to you. Since you have so many problems with FFXIV I am suggesting you go out and design your own MMO to compete with all of the other MMO's in the market. You could maybe name it "Entitled Princess". By doing this way you can make your game work the way you want instead of having to conform to the rules of FFXIV.

For the love of Hydaelyn, 99 times is the freaking maximum number of runs (well I suppose this only hold true if the token exchange is already out or one don't mind waiting), stop making it sound like it's the minimum number of runs required. I've a FC mate who got lucky and got the mount on his first clear. I was there to help out on that run and I got to admit I was salty for rolling a single digit on that run, whatever happened to good karma? T-T

Personally I got a mixed bag of results, I have to turn in 99 tokens thrice but I've also got lucky and got a few mount under 20 clears with the rest in between the two. I can't speak for others, but I'm proud to have my shiny ride after I invested the time and effort into grinding for them, and I wouldn't feel any devaluation in it even if every other players and their parents and grandparents got the same mount too. Does that make me inhuman? Perhaps? I do suppose my character was created with succubus in mind so...

It's interesting to note that even though Remedi and Snow_Princess are on the two different camp with regards to this issue, they've never debate direct with each other. I do suppose both of them will agree to the same thing though:

Why are you posting claims something takes an inhuman amount of time? I am not "telling you what you have time for" I am saying your claim is obviously false that you replied to me with. You didn't say "I do not have time for it" you said "It takes an INHUMAN amount of time."

I never said I was "better than you" I was simply contesting your claim with facts that I still managed with a busy schedule to farm. If you make wild claims that something takes an inhuman amount of time when it definitely doesn't (since that means no one would have the mounts at all) then someone might tell you there is a problem with what you are saying. It is not an inhuman amount of time since a lot of people have these mounts...last I checked we are all humans.

It is "you want it now" because you actually DO have access to it. It just might take you a bit longer than people who may have more time to play if you try at release before they nerf or overgearing happens. If you wait until they nerf it you highly likely will not have to run 99 times to get a mount especially if you wait to overgear and unsync fights. Waiting for it to be easier is just waiting, you still have access to it. So if you don't want to "wait" for it to be easier then that is a "I want it now" problem.

The drop rate eventually increases by so much that they drop really often and highly likely you will win one way before 99 runs (99 tokens is just an RNG protection and yes it can happen, but it is rare that you end up not winning a roll when the drop rate is nerfed that the mounts drop a lot).

Have you even tried to go get one of the old primal ponies? They drop like candy and the fights are so easy to beat unsync they don't even have the token system but you really won't need it if you just run an unsync group. Have you tried running unsync Ravana EX? He falls over and you skip all his mechanics and faceroll him in 2 minutes.

*Just some extra info for you: During HW my boyfriend didn't have any of the primal ponies except for Leviathan and you know what we did? This was even before SB and before level 70.....me and him DUO'd all the 2.0 primals and got him all his missing ponies to get Kirin. DUO. Just two people. Eventually even the HW primals we'll be so overgeared that you can low man them to get the mounts.

If you don't even have 30 mins to get a group and run an unsync primal a couple of times a few days a week or even once a week then I really don't know what to tell you. At that point it is simply a personal problem where you do not have enough time to do everything you want to in this game and even I have that problem, but I pick and choose what I want to do with the time I do have and for me the mounts are high priority along with gearing my main job for raiding.

I do not know why you are saying all that without reading my posts/understanding my point. I said, numerous times I took 2-4 hours (I don't remember the exact time but was longer then 2 hours) trying to get nightmare, a 2.0 mount in SB, killing it fist with parties of 5. It never dropped. Not "see it and lost on lot", but never appeared. So how can you say "when this or that will get nerfed you will be able do it"? That is what this thread is for, so they take a look at these drop rate issues and examine them since it does not fit what the development team said to begin with.

Nightmare mount/ HW mounts (i know someone that had to 99 niddy, I went to help a few runs, that person i inhuman to do that, dealing with all the bads and wipes to get 99 clears) and the ala mehigan mount needs adjustments. I have no idea why people think otherwise. With the situation right now, you can't even reasonably farm the ala mehigan mount till 5.0! that is ridiculous. It does take an inhuman amount of time, I did obverse someone doing niddy 99, how you suggest otherwise is beyond me. There is no defense to defend this kind of time sink other then a blind following.

I love to see you duo niddy right now, that story really has no point with what is being talked about.

Then how come that does not exist in this game? Where is the need to exp for 6 months to get to max level and other things? where is the 2-5 years for getting a weapon? I am sorry but the development team outright disagreed with your post.

Nightmare is the one single mount that didn't get its drop rate increased. It's the only one that doesn't drop like candy unfortunately. I don't know why they don't make it drop same % as the other primal ponies, maybe they just want one of them to be a bit rarer so that people keep going. Nightmare is a special case since it doesn't follow the typical primal mount rules so it doesn't really fit the norm drop rate %. The kirin ponies and the birds do though so it won't be the same as trying to get Nightmare.

The topic is about "mounts from EXTREME Primals" and dungeons. the 2.0 EX primals are EXTREME primals and they drop mounts. So, yes It is what is being talked about.

You're active daily/monthly are you not? Here's the thing though, it is an MMO. Even current MMOs have timesinks. In a subscription based MMO, you need to keep players subbed. How do you do that? Artificial time gates, and big time sinks for things that aren't capped. You know, I have to allocate my time as well (I don't have infinite time either). Right now my time is divided between levelling, and Creation tomestone farming. I will do 1 O4 a week, for the crystalloid, but I won't touch O1-O3. Because of the pure RNG gating. Creation tomestones are capped at 450 per week. That's why the amount is so reasonable. It keeps you coming back week after week. Daily roulette bonuses, same deal. If they were to reduce the amount of tokens needed, they would have to cap it to 1 token a week. Else players with more time (or more efficient) than you and I would blitz through the content in about an hour.
