XIV's loot system is so alt-unfriendly it's absurd.

That's all I want BiS for... well that and doing roulettes, farming Extremes and Fates faster if I cared to do those. Unfortunately this feels more hollow then ever due to Job simplifications making reaching big number easier and shallow and implementation of Auto-Crits that for some reason isn't' applied to all jobs just selectively a few. No more random big Crits because of some non-issue Issue that never was a Balance issue to clear content? I can go in-depth with how dumb it was on my Job but that's a dead beaten chocobo rant I should not repeat. Hyosho enjoyers... I want my big random Crit to D:< !! *table flips*

The issue with time gating in XIV is that it's not done in fun ways. Like you make an event and every 3 days new stuff opens up and things open earlier based on participation, a cool and reasonable way of time gating. A lot of people thought this would have been how they did stuff in Eureka early on back in stormblood. But this would lead to issues for servers where people leave to go to aether for content instead.

XIV also doesnt create enough contentfor time gating to be worth while. Imo, the tier 3 unlock should be done earlier instead of later.

There is often a clear difference between what they say and what they do, housing being the prime example.
But technically they also never said to un-sub in-between patches, they just encouraged you to take a break from XIV and play other games, nowhere in that quote does it say that they don't want your money while you're taking said break.

But unlike taxes, you can just....not pay the sub. (I mean, you can also not pay your taxes, but the IRS (or your country's equivalent) will have something to say about that.) It's a luxury product, not the government. So this comparison doesn't work.

it works fine, as its talking about the fallacy of people thinking things can be payed for with some assumed never ending magic tax dollar with out the realization that that money comes form the taxpayers, or in this case the customer. the analogy has nothing to do with the money or reason for acquisition of the aforementioned money, but instead the idiocy of those thinking the resource is the sole result of the governments existence, or in this case the company.

The issue with Forspoken wasn't even pandering, it was a rushed dev cycle and large chunks of the dev team not knowing what the other chunk was even doing, which is a norm within SE as a whole. Which is ironically a problem XIV also seems to face as well, becaue I'm still trying to find where ANY of us ask for the 2 min meta, or any of the assinine changes we got over when we DID ask for the loot system to be better as far back as ARR.

And most people don't look to hard beyond what they see.

Why can't we just have a system where people are allowed to grind at the pace they want? Do you want to grind out BiS on all jobs? Great! Go ahead, you have the ability to! You want to gear up slowly and/or just care about gearing 1-2 jobs? Maybe a few? Aweseome! You can do that too! I get burned out faster from Job-Designs made purposefully bland and flavorless making all content more boring, or content I have to repeat like roulettes and Fates that is boring with the boring Job-Designs? vs just letting me Finish something I set out to Finish during my game-time, because the game allows me to. That players can't manage their desires to have it all be done asap? and I don't mean just Savage btw, I mean everything... that sounds like a user issue... the fear of FOMO that isn't even there? Hell you even have the contradiction of mismatching schedules with Friends, cause with Loot Lockout? you have that problem...

Yet, when we look at the premier game for how this type of raid Scene got started, WoW, you literally have hundreds of guilds that raid at multiple paces and speeds, that get their BiS at their own rates and this problem isn't that bad. Dragonflight literally offers you the ability to gear at your own speed with no problems and clear rates are HIGHER for it, people are raiding more and are willing to gear more alts because of it.

Ironically a lot of the WoW burnouts are here Burning out now, because they made WoW, a game that at MANY points was unhealthy, even more unhealthy, and while it's def still there, as I doubt it will ever leave any MMOs raiding scene, theres more people now who just do it how they want.

When you look at XIV most people don't even know why they're getting BiS, we have no reason to get BiS and most people blindly follow the META [most effective tactics available] Most of them aren't even willing to theory craft to figure out other tactics. SO honestly EVEN IF you change how we acquire gear, these burnouts are the issue, not the game for offering more ways to play.

Or to simplify, just because those people are addicts doesn't mean I can't enjoy a drink or two and call it a night.

This!! Time-Gated features is so superficial and it comes in so many forms like Loot-Lockout...

The freedom to schedule when you want to do/finish/tackle x content with or without friends is so much better vs forcing players to be online at x days of the week at x hour of the day, trying to match schedules and loot limit if you want to play with friends for x content. With limited reward if some already got the loot for the week on early Savage.

Artificial mental scarcity just isn't Great. Have players Farm to their hearts content if they wish, for Savage? preferably earlier.

Other Features I don't like in XIV are Beast-Tribe quests that are limited to 12 a day or 3 per Beast-Tribe type vs just doing as much as I want or at the very least all 12 into one type. Island Sanctuary is no different, has Time-Gated features. Eureka Pagos? where you needed a certain Boss to spawn at a specific time for a few mats? I much rather just have the Game tell me to kill a 900 mobs as a secondary option and a boss drop saving me 300 mob kills ( as an example ) at least I can slice the mobs at my schedule.

What if players get Burned-Out? Same reason players don't eat Junkfood 10 times a day... moderation? We're all adults I'm assuming, we can dictate what is healthy for ourselves. But I do not like following Square's schedule vs us the players having our own schedule, with different timezones, mismatching work hours, varying real-life responsibilities - having more freedom to do what we want, when want, however we want? seems beneficial to our gameplay experience quality.

Lol XD !! I mean If players want to experience Burnout? go to Black Desert or ArchAge or something like Revelation online and then grind to your hearts content. Lots of the times? No one not even the game stopping you from farming endlessly for 10 years straight, go at it - that's a Burnout. XIV = 99% of the time? Burnout from Boredom, mhm

Even with the routine tome cap increase, it still doesn't feel like I can get tome gear at a reasonable pace. They need to dramatically reduce the price of tome gear.

If they're selling it as an MSQ skip then it's not going to have non-MSQ stuff in it.

They do at least unlock all of the optional dungeons, probably since they know people wouldn't go out of their way for that content, and they do unlock glamours – unless perhaps that's a recent thing that happened after you did your skip. But I remember being pleasantly surprised by it when we had the cloud server test.

That's really the long and short of it. Everything from the time gated restrictions to the drip fed content releases are all designed in such a way to keep players subscribed and maximize them being starved for new content they'll stick around just to avoid missing out on the initial rush. You always have people insist you can just take it slow. Okay. Go ahead and try finding groups for Eureka Orthos. You'll find something... but it will take considerably longer because everyone who cared about that content has long since done it. Why did they do it so quickly? Well, we go back to the "starved for content" problem. Orthos was basically the only thing with form of longevity upon its release. Naturally, people are going to do it and then move on since it really didn't have much in the way of staying power.

If there wasn't a cap for tome gear, you'd risk people unsubbing significantly faster because, contrary to popular belief, this game has a small content cycle unless you barely play.

While it's certainly a nice PR spin. Let's not kid ourselves here. They aren't doing this to "save us from ourselves." They're doing it for money and nothing else. Square Enix isn't exactly well known for championing the customer.

First of all, I'd counter that housing is what keeps players subbed.

But regardless of that, if the case is trying to keep players subbed, explain literally the entire rest of EW. Content completable in a week with no meaningful rewards players care about, the removal of real relic weapons and field operations... Literally everything else is about pushing players out of FFXIV, not in.

It's funny that in a thread about alt unfiendliness ppl are confused of what is even talking about since half ppl talk about alt jobs the other half talk about proper alt characters. They do it this way to keep people subbed, to be blunt. And you can still gear jobs easily, by using crafted gear to started, normal raid gear. Then augment the crafted gear. Eventually the tome cap increases and the savage loot restrictions are lifted so you can finish everything off. Savage can be cleared in pentamelded crafted gear.

Yeah it kinda sucks that it takes so long to get all the best gear, I get it. But you don't NEED all the best gear to do any content. Pick your job to start then work on a secondary after you've accomplished your goals , etc

This is literally all I see in the forum on every thread in the English section. I wouldn't be surprised if the devs completely ignore this entire section, as it's just a dumpster fire most days. And the few good suggestions here quickly get derailed and flooded with people harassing and going off topic so fast that most people would just drop the topic because their fellow gamers chose baseless arguments over improvement for all. Says a lot about the community and the future of the game

Both equally apply to this situation and a lot of people here like to hyper focus on semantics and drift away from the hard points of how the loot system doesn't support alt characters or people wanting to gear an alt role/job. Most of these people are here to argue a point over simply forcing the dev team to do better with loot design within content and be more considerate of people wanting versitility while progging the tier and the ability to help friends without harming their loot.

But if I were to make a hyperbolic statement, someone would then take the time to pick apart my statement, only being able to see the game from their very specific set of eyes and experience playing it. ANd you know the rest, thread turns into explinations, etc etc.

As far as the greater opinionated community, they don't do their homework, they'd like to be contrarian, they like to play devils advocate. Not realizing we need to be better about pushing the point. Like if ya'll wanna debate, you can do join debate clubs, they are STILL a thing.

Alt-unfriendly regarding Raid Loot is but one symptom, where we can throw a plethora of other flaws to it such as time-gated features. While not Raid Loot related? it is regarding the subject of the game not being friendly or enjoyable to alts. This all ties back to what?

This. The games core is indeed the problem. Rather then actually updating it? Square decides to not really change this, continuing to encourage the purchase of boosts and MSQ skips at the benefit of the company over a better gameplay experience for players. We'll have this player issue next time we get new Raids and the cycle probably just repeats.

Xiv never has and never will be alt friendly. This is because unlike wow where alts serve a legitimate purpose. On ffxiv they have no purpose other than boredom fillers for a lack of engaging game play. They simply won't cater much to this honestly.

They don't "equally apply", they apply in very different ways unless you're generalising so much that there's no hard statements about what is wrong or what you think should be done about it.

Secondary jobs have a funding issue due to caps on how much loot and currency you can earn in a week; alt characters are a way around that issue but are faced with the somewhat opposite problem of not being able to share gear with the other character.

If one person thinks you're talking about gearing additional jobs and the other thinks you're talking about alternate characters, you're talking past each other and may be making points that don't apply to the situation.

I think they both apply and I'm talking about both because having the time to gear an alt character isn't a norm for a lot of people, just as spending the time and want to run for several or more weeks to earn the gear for multiple roles on one character isn't something a lot of people are willing to do.

You have to look at it from the fact that the system, while being homogenized for accessibility , lacks accessibility in so many ways. With MMOs you can't target the symptom in a singular manner, you'll never fix the issue before a new one comes up making it worse and the band-aid feel useless. You have to target the lack of accessibility for both alt jobs and alt characters and making the system fair yet balanced for all players, from high end to midcore to low-end.

So yes these are different, but they stem from the same place within the system, in a sense it's like being sick and getting boils and a rash, two totally different things but its stemming from the same sickness. You can treat each separately, or you can just target the root of the cause. And frankly I'm tired of fixing the symptoms of XIVs issue. We need to fix things at the core of the game.

If you think of the weekly loot system then XIV being alt unfriendly only holds true at the beginning, with more alts you can gear up more jobs quicker because differenr characters mean different lockout.

So there are two things they must consider
1. Give priority to alts. Which means let people have alts without having to do msqs, make the furthest msq account wide. This also helps the game when it has content drought such as now. I dont know why theyre so adverse in making the game more alt friendly. Having 1 character with multiple jobs is not the same as having multiple characters. They want us to keep paying for msq potions but the altoholics would rather do msq, so its just a mind numbing experience they give to players. By making the game more alt friendly they can retain active subbed players more because they always have new alts to play on, without making the players suffer that theyd rather stop subbing than redo msqs

2. Give priority to loots. Maybe make the lockout based on role, if you play as a tank you can get coffers for the tank for that week. Then if you switch it DPS you can get it again, it wont make the raid "faster" because players will be working on bis gears for multiple role than one role, every week

I would rather option number 1. What kind of old game wont let its players make alt, or that they have to spend 200 hrs+ on an alt to get where their main characters at? I dont know the statistics but Im sure by making the game alt friendly they would gain more from active sub than they would from people buying msq potions for alts.

The game had a system that workes but games have changed over the years and their practices are still old.

Its the same tying emotes to subpar statues. Okay you releases how many statues in total? few hundreds? If you make the emote cheaper but available for everyone without the statue (that is bad in quality and people will resell it anyway), if the emote is so good that more than half active players want it, the money geberated can be more than just those few hundreds purchases.

They like to make things in the game look way more valuable than they actually are, like housing, gears, emotes, etc. But that is such a 2000 approach for an MMO living in 2024.
