Must say what Februs wrote up matches with what I'd like to see as well.
In terms of cosmetics, I would really like to be able to "paint" the glow of the weapon. Even if they're just five preset colors that I choose from an NPC, at least the weapon can feel personal.
#noglow please... just add bits to it that glow is what I prefer. Or something more delicate than the novus/nexus glows... my eyes...
Maybe for the next relic they will be having us fight these Zodiac demons that wer mentioned in the zeta phase. That be awesome.
I'm in favour of something like this as well... Perhaps something similar to the way the original Primal weapons glowed, like a design in the blade or something. Something a little more subtle so that it will match with a variety of outfits better.
Though, personally, the design of the relic itself is more important to me than the glow. Half the reason I liked the glow on my original relics is because I didn't like the shape of the weapons itself. Curtana was okay, but Excalibur was ugly until it got it's glow. Gae Blog was crazy ugly. I wish that thing glowed stronger so I didn't have to look at it. Longarius was much nicer looking.
Yes please. I was hoping for Zodiac Lucavi Trials as soon as I heard the term Zodiac. When they mentioned the demons I was really hoping for it.
Another interesting Idea that came to me from the Odin thread is fighting the original weapon holders, or rather their primal incarnations. The idea was that, since the Zeta weapons had consciousness, they could summon their original owners (similar to the way that Odin is perpetually summoned by his sword), and we could fight them. That would be cool too, and a darker twist on the Zodiac Braves.
UPDATE: NEW RELIC WEAPON HAS BEEN CONFIRMED FOR DECEMBER RELEASE.
Been a while since anyone's posted anything on this one, but I figured it's better than making a new thread. Apparently, Yoshi P has confirmed that coming in patch 3.15, we will see the newest form of Relic weapon, currently known as "Anima" weapons. Many of you will be pleased to know that us Zeta holders are being rewarded. Yoshi P is keeping his promise. If you finished a Zeta, you can skip the first stage of the new relic. Further, you can choose which relice you want. Ie: if you finished your spear but want a Drk knight relic, you can specify that weapon instead.
Details were posted in this interview: http://www.bluegartr.com/threads/126...yond?p=6560729
I'll hold off my enthusiasm until I see the Anima Spear's stats. Getting sick of Spears with Skill Speed and no Det on them.
For the new relic weapon quests, I'd prefer less farming and monotonous tasks, and more of a focus on class mastery. My suggestion would be a short series of quests for each weapon, with each quest having a highly challenging solo duty, something that will push you to the absolute limits of your capabilities as a player. This way, the weapons retain a significant value, as owning it for your class proves you are a capable player with that class. It would also give more people the drive to reach their potential for what will likely be a bloody beautiful weapon.
I know what you mean. The whole reason I preferred the custom stats of Zeta was because Pld's often get stuck with the utterly useless stat of Parry.... The heck do I need that for!? I'm a Pld! I've got a shield! Not to mention enough CD's to make most healers bored.
I can get behind this. I really like the idea of instanced fights. It would make the relic quest more personal.
The only problem is that there are certain elements of every encounter that go beyond the limits of single jobs. For example, a Dps can't tank effectively, nor self heal enough to survive large dmg outputs. Tanks and healers, conversely, often can't meet high dps checks. So, traditionally, the solo instanced encounters have always seemed a bit easy (especially if over-geared) because I think it's difficult for SE to find the right balance between "hard" and "unfair." They did better with the HW instanced fights, but it's still not perfect. They don't tend to test the skill of the player as much as high end content does.
A Relic Weapon wishlist? Well I can throw out a lot of features I'd love to see but understandably won't be added. Such things like cuztomizable "pieces" of the weapon. For example monk weapons. Can choose between claws, knuckles, or even weaponless, as well as many small options. Weaponless--> Tattoos--> Flaming Fists. Or perhaps for dragoon. Naginata--> Glyphed edge--> tattered wrappings (for the shaft of the weapon).
Ideally though, I just want the option to color them with multiple levels of dye like in Guild Wars 2 (though I'll be honest, you can't dye weapons in Gw2, so SE would be ahead of them on that if they did ;) ). Like that dragoon weapon can have a dark steel body, glowing orange glyphs for the edge, and sandy brown for the wrappings, and grey for any other ornamentation.
I would like to see custom stats but because 3.2 is going to change the tanking stat influence (and this could happen to other classes in future for all we know), I think they should be adjustable without too much hassle. For example, they could have all custom stats controlled by materia, so that instead of having to throw out your relic and start over, you would simply get the materia removed and start that part over again. Imagine if they made Parry really useful in 3.2 after everyone had avoided Parry for the entirity of their relic customisation.
I agree. One of my favorite instanced fights in HW was actually the one in which you had tobecause you had teammates with you. It felt like a dungeon, but wasn't really a dungeon. It wasn't exactly challenging though...So I'm not sure if this would be the solution for making instanced fights an adequate test for Relic holders. It would still be pretty cool though. I'd like to see more fights like this included along with additional Trials... and maybe one Relic specific Dungeon (though I'm sure this last bit wouldn't work because of horrendous que times... Unless Relic weapons got really popular or there were other rewards for doing it).save Raubahn from being killed in Halatali
Customizing your relic look would be awesome. There was actually some talk earlier about how, theoretically, it could be made possible if they used a similar system to the way we build airships (ie: have pre-rendered pieces that the player can mix and match to be the way they like them). That being said, it would be highly unlikely. I can't picture SE putting that much effort into it, especially since Relic weapons weren't (and probably won't be) mainstream.
Customizing your weapon colours should definitely be a thing though. I see no reason why we should not get more specific colour options in the dye menu. In fact, we already know that it exists, because SE has shown off the results in cutscenes. It's not hard to notice that Sir Aymeric's sword is identical in shape to the Pld's Curtana, it only sports a different colour and markings. It's basically a clone that has been touched up, and it is similar enough that the first time I saw it I actually had to do a double take, thinking he might have one of the original true relics.
I never re-spec'd my original relic weapon, so I can't say I know the pain of going through it, but I see where you're coming from.If I ever did want to re-spec my sword/spear I would have been instantly deterred by the nonsense of re-doing that god awful process of getting alexandrite and melding materia which had the worst damn meld rates ever, especially considering the cost. I'm sorry, but at anywhere between 500k to 1 mil for a single piece for Savage Might IV (this was back when the Relic quest was still new) only to have it fail at 90% success rate...No. Just no. I am not ashamed to admit that if there has ever been a time I came close to putting my fist through my screen, it was then.
In terms of Custom stats themselves, though. I don't think we have much to worry about. Any changes made in 3.2 are going to be moderate. You have to remember, because of previously existing (and often still used) gear, any changes SE makes have to consider discrepancies they can cause in the gameplay. It prevents them from making changes that are too radical, especially to the stats which underlie our abilities. Even if they did manage to make Parry useful, it wouldn't change the meta of the game. Tanks would still be primarily concerned with Str/Det in order to maintain efficiency in aggro. The only tank that might benefit from using Parry instead would be Drk, since they have an ability which can directly increase the rate at which they Parry (Dark Dance). Otherwise, not much will change.
I want it to be more than just a glowy stat stick. I'd want it to enhance other abilities or attacks that we have.
Extreme examples just to give you an idea:
Blm relic grants 50% reduced MP cost during astral fire.
Smn relic doubles all DoT durations.
Pld relic reduces or removes damage penalty during shield oath.
Now I obviously don't expect the relic to be that extreme, but I'd want it to be something that changes up gameplay or adds some sort of significant boosts outside of boring old stats.
You reminded me of something an FC mate of mine said, she stated that with every class being "fine" in the current meta it makes things rather stale, everything is fairly stable right now and as a result it's kind of boring. I feel like the meta could use a bit of shaking up.
I agree. I'm all for changing things up for the sake of variety, but the meta has actually changed since 3.0.
For example, SE has suddenly come to the decision that "Difficulty" = "Dps Checks." So, mechanics have changed to reflect that. You just have to compare the Extreme Primal / Savage content to the old Extreme Primal / Coil content to see the difference (Thordan Ex is an exception that I hope they keep up with). This simple change alone caused a huge ripple. Hit up the Tank forums and you can't toss a stone without hitting someone who is complaining about the current meta being unfairly tailored to War's and Drk's. Pld's get sidelined because of high Dps checks and an overall broken skillset. Small changes in the meta effectively wrote off an entire Job for progression groups (once you're overgeared it makes little difference).
Personally, I'd like to see some mix ups. It keeps things interesting, as you say, but I'm just pointing out that these are things SE has to be aware of when they decide to implement changes to the way our jobs spec out. Changes are good, but not if they bar people from content or a certain job. They have to keep some kind of balance.
A real quest instead of "go do low level duty finder for 12 hours"
No FATEs
No hunts
Minimal Diadem
New bosses and encounters for it
I am ready to be disappointed!
Shouldn't they be teasing the weapons already? C'MON SQUEX SHOW ME THAT WHM CANE
No Diadem nonsense pls. All I ask. They are gonna have us do Diadem aren't they.
They already have. Yoshi-P announced them in an interview a month or 2 ago. They're being released in December (rumour has it). There is also a preview of the Anima Quest on the log in page, but, sadly, they show no images of the weapons themselves. All we know so far, is that Gerolt (sp?) is meeting a new scholar who hails from the near-east region that has been studying Anima as a substance that mimics the soul. It implies that we'll be making more weapons similar to the Zeta phase of the original relic (one's with some degree of..."life," I guess).
Also to note the new class like DK for example will now have it's very own Relic.
Debating if i should choose one of my 2 "advantages" to skip the first step and use on DK, lol
A preview by now would be nice.....
Not having continuous month long grinding sessions would be really nice!
I've been debating that same question. Ever since they announced that a Zeta weapon was a free ticket to skip stage one of the new relic and could be exchanged for any other relic it's been on my mind as to whether or not I want to trade in my DRG spear for my Drk...
However, SE wasn't 100% clear on if the new relic weapon swap will include a trade in for the new jobs as well. They said that you could swap your Zeta for any other relic, but I wouldn't put it past them to pull a fast one on us and say something along the lines of "any other relic except the three new jobs (citing that those three jobs had no relic as an excuse)." It wouldn't be the first time they forced a grind on us. They also didn't specify if multiple Zetas = multiple skips of stage one. They may only allow for one swap to account for the title "Z," rather than the actual number of Zeta's the player has...
In all seriousness though, this is my extreme pessimism coming out. I'm seriously hoping that SE is on the level with this one and allows us to skip as many stage one Relics for as many Zetas as we have, and that the new jobs are included. The lore would seem to support it, because at this point I'm assuming that the "soul" of our Zeta is what is going to (lore logic) facilitate our skipping of stage 1.
At this point, I'm theorizing (and this could turn out to be total nonsense, but whatever) that the "soul" of our Zeta is going to somehow translate into the Anima of the new relic. I'm assuming that this will not be a direct transfer, mind you (such as from Nexus > Zodiac), because that would imply carrying over our custom stats. I have a feeling that the first stage of the relic won't have custom stats just yet (no proof. Just a feeling that SE will be repeating the same formula like they have been with pretty much everything else in HW. Ie: Artifact gear, Alexander Raid format, etc). Instead it will just be some sort of whishy washy lore logic that talks about how the souls are similar or resonate or whatever and boom: new weapon... either that or they're just gonna give it to us and everyone involved in the quest will have some sort of magical time lapse in which no one is the least bit suspicious that we somehow skipped whatever steps they wanted us to do.
Yoshi has said the 3.15 relic patch will be before xmas. That leaves this coming Tuesday the 15th or the 22nd of dec. The 15th I am starting to doubt as we have heard so little from them. The 22nd isn't the best start date for those in the west that may have a busy xmas planned.
As I understand the 2 skips, it is if you have done one zeta you get the 2 skips. I have done 3 so I should be fine to get skips on 2 of the 3. The other thing on relic is the reward vs the grind. I would guess relic will end between 210 and possible 215. 215 because it makes a massive grind wroth the time. Down side to that is it reduces the value of current content 205 drops. I doubt 210 because when the tome weapon had the same or high ilvl as relic in 2.3. a lot of ppl stopped doing relic cause the grind at that time had no reward.
Whatever the ending ilvl is, it seems they need to fix the df if it is needed for relic and a grind that won't burn ppl out. Many in my FC are on vacation from the game as they have burned out on the lack of reward vs grind in current content.
This is something that's been on my mind lately as well, and I'm starting to wonder if the Relic weapon will be a little weaker than we might like.
The thing is, Yoshi-P and the Dev team already stated (way back during expansion release) that the new incarnation of the Relic weapon will not have the same level of difficulty to obtain as the original one. Given that the original weapon wasn't so much "difficult" to obtain as it was plan annoying (or outright infuriating), a lower difficulty would seem to imply less grind (we can hope). If this is true, the good news would be that the parts that we all hated to do over and over and over when obtaining our original relics will be either gone or dramatically less painful (again, we can hope). The bad news is that SE could scale the reward we receive to the lower difficulty.
One of the problems with the original relic was that it didn't keep up with end-game raid weapons (until Zeta came along). The grind was often not worth the reward, especially in the Atma stage. If SE sticks to their guns and lowers the "difficulty" of obtaining the new relic, then a lower than end-game level reward might be justified. Which means we could see an item level as low as 205 in the earliest stages. I really hope not (I would really love to see the Relic be able to compete with Raid content, like custom Zeta's did), but given that SE is allowing previous Zeta holders to skip the first stage, and they have indicated that it will be easier to obtain for new players (both of these things also indicate that custom stats will not be available in the entry stages of the weapon), I don't think they're gonna hand out ilvl 210-215 weapons right off the bat. It would be awesome if they did, and I really hope they do, but I'm not going to hold my breath. Not yet, anyway.
@ Februs, you make good points there. I never thought of it that way and it is possible that Machinist, Astro and DK will not be included in the first step skip.
As for the custom stats, i am feeling the same just really hope if thats the case that it is useful stats not more acc instead of say spell speed for blm as an example, i am already over the cap, lol
There is still debate over if we will have a base weapon to start with, either eso weapon or Zeta, etc.. I really do not know tbh
They've been oddly hush hush about it, considering it's coming out ... what? Next week? Can't remember. Soon, in any case.
As much as I can see SE deny Astro, Drk and Mch weapon swaps because they had no original Zetas... I don't think they'd be quite that mean. They could, mind you, but I think it would be a dick move. What I think is far more likely is that the first stage of the weapon will have an overall lower Ilvl than we want. I REALLY hope they give us a 210-215 weapon, but given that they are letting Zeta holders skip stage 1 and SE has admitted that the grind will be "easier," I can see them going as low as 205... mostly because they wouldn't want to give a random chunk of players an unfair advantage in Savage content when the progression groups actually had to earn it. The real question is what kind of stats will they give?
For Pld, for example, the two best swords you can currently get for stats are from Thor Ex or A4S, because they both offer secondary stats of Crit and Det instead of less useful weapon stats such as Acc or Parry (which is the number one useless stat on a Pld. They have a shield for crying out loud). In that regard, their weapon stat allocation is preferable in dmg even to War's and Drks. This makes sense, because Pld's need all the help they can get in dmg. Other weapons just don't stack up, especially if you like to Raid. Which is probably the reason that they put a Det/Crit split on the Thor Ex sword when it came out. Pld's are under-preforming in dmg. This compensates (albeit by a tiny amount).
I'm really hoping that they will see a similar stat breakdown in the Anima weapon. Even if the weapon turns out to be a lower ilvl than I want, I can live with it if the stats are well balanced for the jobs (at least until I get the Savage weapons... If I can ever find Dps who can do it, that is). If they're not, then I'd be better off just grinding it out in Thor Ex and living with that.
Best thing we can do at this point is, Hope for the best, and Expect the worst. I don't want to speculate to much because I have a feeling I'm just going to be let down.
I am surprised no one else requested this, but I would like to see a unique ability attached to each relic weapon.
In FFXI, a completed relic weapon had its own unique skill that you could use. If they did that for FFXIV, that would be amazing, but at the least, if they could offer an enhancement for a commonly used skill, that would be ideal as well...
But wouldn't that turn the relic into a must for BiS? Again I don't know that much about the game but as cool as that would be I dunno.
Not necessarily. It depends on the utility of that move and the stat allocation of the weapon. If the stats are too low to justify the move's utility, then it would not be BiS. Even if it were, though, I don't think it would be a problem. In fact, if the new relic is going to follow the same path as the old relic, it's inevitable.
For many of the introductory stages, the original Relic weapons lagged behind the Raid/upgraded Tome weapons. However, after People were capable of putting custom stats on their Relics they shot ahead of the Raid/Tome weapons. Item level and Primary stats were no better or worse, but secondary stats had no comparison to the custom stats that people put on their Relics. It was on a case by case basis (because some people put the wrong stats on their relics, or just didn't know what the best choices were), but for anyone who actually sat down and worked out what they needed it was BiS without question.
In fact, a properly built Relic weapon actually exceeded most of the higher level weapons people were picking up in the new HW dungeons. I didn't have to swap out my Zeta gear until I was almost level 60, and even then, I only swapped because the item level of my weapon was holding back my average item level (thereby holding me back from dungeon entry). The stats on the weapon I was forced to use were actually worse than my Zeta. The first weapons I saw that had stats which truly exceeded my original Relic were the new Tome Weapons, but even those don't have the best secondary stat allocation.
In any case, IF the Anima weapons follow the same development curve, by the time we reach the end of this expansion arc and get close to a new expansion, they'll eventually be BIS regardless of any special abilities tied to them.
I would be totally down for this, and it wouldn't exactly be the first time. For example, the GC gear offered stat bonuses if you were wearing the complete set. This would be a similar idea. A bonus for using your job's Relic weapon. Depending on Stat allocation, there would be a question as to which weapons to actually use. Stats versus Utility would be a common debate. The only problem would be grind versus reward.
Yoshi-P has outright said that the new Relics would be easier to attain than the old ones. So, it's possible something like this would be too much reward for the amount of effort it would take to get it, especially if the Anima Weapons become best in slot (which I don't think is likely. At least, not at the opening stage). It would, however, be interesting to see become available to the weapon as it grows stronger.
