Just think of Quebec. They are always excluded ;)
Is it that hard to find a PC to run the benchmark? It doesn't need to be your own.

"don't have access to the forums natively?" Say what now? What is 'native' access to a web forum anyway? My cellphone can post to this forum, so I guess that counts? Or do you think that consoles are so primitive that they lack web browsers? I haven't checked recently to be certain that the forum works flawlessly on them, but PS4 and PS3 both have web browsers which allows users to access the forums.
No need to be a jerk, is there?
Yay fuzzy hardware definitions abound. That Surface Pro Tablet is about as much a PC at the hardware level as the PS4 is, probably slightly less so in fact. the main difference being that the PS4 is not slapped with the Windows tax/virus.
This kind of thing right here, along with all the suggestions regarding versions of Direct X, service pack installation, driver versions etc, all of that nonsense is why many people are content to play games on consoles. Consoles do get OS updates, yes, but there are not multiple components that can be updated without reference to each other, any of which can impact your game play. I can't help but laugh inwardly every time someone tries to tell me that actually PC gaming is as easy, or easier than console gaming, and yet I can turn the forum page and find a discussion about compatibility issues with drivers, configurations, browsers, OS versions, service packs, anti-virus software, etc...
Either way, suggesting that the OP or anyone else must have a PC to use a character creator is pretty annoying, it would have been possible to ship a character creator for PS4/PS3, without the benchmarking aspect of the thing. Though I will agree that would mean extra development, and I'd rather they spend as much time on the actual game as they can without such distractions.
Bad enough people like this are hounding my forum post for a similar one like the OP.
If they wanted it this way of PC only they would have never bothered with console support they would have told the people who had their ps3 copy of the game pre ordered and say sorry but not going this way guys tough luck. If you want a to play a game that has no console support then go play WoW.
Aaaaaand here we go again....
As a console player, this is kinda embarassing when other console players dont understand why PC players need the benchmark...
If you want to play it so much, console-ers, just play it on your computer. Im just using my parents old store bought laptop, and got a decent 1000 from it on high settings. It's doable on any computer (and Windows Tablets, Ive heard. I remember someone got it to run on one, back during the original BM release)
If anything, I would complain about it being a twitter only event.
Twitter is a crap site- should have been either here or on YT/reddit.
i don't have a PC anymore because i simply don't need one. the performance from the PS4 is geat (better than most PCs have xD of course, you can spend tons of money to have a better performance on PC, but you only need that for your virtual penis), no need for a stupid benchmark because the game will work anyway...
and the others: who cares about the character creation? you are acting like that's the only thing you will do until 3.0. but i think you will spend only 30 mins to create an ugly character showing the screenshot around and never touch the thing again...
A troll post but, you do realise why people pay for more performance right? its call getting more detail and image quality out of the games, not only that but you did contradict your self in your opening sentence, 'better then most PC's'.
So tell me, is increasing image quality and yet maintaining performance considered virtual penis?, this is great then, oh just like your statement 'the performance from the PS4 is great'.
This right here. This can be closed and locked because this is the correct answer. It's funny seeing console players complaining about a PC benchmark. If you are that bothered buy a PC. Can't afford one? Be happy you have a console to play the game on. INB4 I can't afford a PC - I built a PC for as much as my PS4 cost that is capable of running the game at maximum settings pulling a hare below an 8k score.
Actually I would put money on most people's PC's these days running better than on PS4, the PS4 has some super old hardware.
This whole discussion is moot. Like seriously, what the hell. The whole purpose of the benchmark is so that people can test if their PC can run the game, and for SE to track statistics on the quality of the PC's being used by the playerbase. The whole Au Ra creation thing and that contest (which btw I'm excluded from since I think twitter's a POS), are just gravy, something that SE was able to whip up quickly and cheaply as an incentive for people to download the benchmark (something I still haven't done).
And in the end... SE is a business, if a couple disgruntled console only people that don't seem to even have a toaster PC rage in the forums, they're probably going to roll their eyes and move on.
Given the stagnant state of the PC market and it's relative decline in sales, I would not be so sure. There are a hell of a lot of (by your apparent definition) "super old" PCs out there. I find it strange that so many PC players presume that everyone using a PC to play has a relatively up to date gaming rig.
Whenever the words Console and PC are together, 99% of the time stupidity follows.
I agree with you, pal. I barely use tweeter much less have an account. I can't access thus contest, but you don't see me raging about not participating.
I have to agree with another person who mentioned that PC players don't always have access to video games only Consolers players are able to play. All this commotion because they don't have access to one of the bonus the tester has and the event going on. We can't always have it all.
And yet PS4 continues to sell like hotcakes. I'm not saying that to start an argument, it's simply a counter point to what you're saying.
I think your analysis is flawed, and you're simply using it to justify your position. In fact, this generation of consoles has been speculated to be the last because of the increasing feasibility of streamed gameplay such as PlayStation Now. Mobile gaming has also had a huge impact on the console business with the tidal wave of money and effort thrown at casual and freemium games on mobile devices. That and the increasing "commoditization" of the hardware involved in producing photo-realistic 1080p effects could make the arguments for a new console iteration harder.
I think it's unlikely this will be the last generation of console, and in fact I suspect Sony will push a PS5 out a couple of years before we might expect since the hardware inside the box is such a commodity now. They've been making money on every PS4 sold so far, and I think that shortening the upgrade cycle makes sense for them, much like it does for GPU makers. If anything, the next generation will bring console performance back to the mid-range gaming PC standard at launch which will be more than good enough for the majority of gamers at the time.
With Windows and PCs in general moving towards a more mobile platform and tablet like form factor, PC gaming is actually one of the few reserves of the old style big box PC. If anything is under threat in the future it's that. The increasing costs of developing games for multiple platforms and configurations, along with the adoption of standard CPU/GPU component architectures in consoles; suggests that for developers, a closed box solution such as the PC architecture based consoles would be an increasingly attractive option.
Just gonna throw this out there, but GTA 5, which has reasonable min specs, still requires some modern hardware, yet that game alone on steam has over 1 million sales, no one has found sales outside steam yet fully.
1 million sales of a game thats been out for around a year and a half, yes there will be plenty of people on PCs that are more then upto scratch, not to mention the hardware from the past 5 -7 years are still pretty decent.
Lets not forget the advancement of new hardware, we are getting new CPU range which promises less power consumption and better performance yet still affordable, New GPUs with brand new memory tech HBM memory that is which is just absurd spec wise on paper.
The Nvidia 960 is such a compelling GPU at the moment for the money, more and more people are buying the parts.
If anything its the new consoles putting the PC's away. They can do what most lay people do with a PC and in some cases better and faster. I have a tiny little console that takes up hardly any room on the shelf under the TV, it can play games, go online, watch movies, use Netflix, Hulu, Amazon. It has a camera, play songs, play Blu-Ray, record game play, take screenshots, store photos. I can link it directly to YouTube, Facebook, etc... I don't need to upgrade it, worry about temperature, worry about turning my graphics down, ease of use. I don't think consoles are going anywhere. I love my PC I have games on there that would never run on a console, but sad to say I think the consoles will take over.
That's because there's a lot of console only games. And yet you don't see those of us without consoles bitching about it and saying that if we can't have it no one should. Take FFXV for example. It is CONSOLE ONLY. Should I be going on a forum and whining about not being able to play it? No because it's MY DECISION not to buy a console. Just like it's YOUR decision not to buy a PC.
The reason they released it to console was to make money. They had to re-coup the cost of the failure of 1.0, then taking it offline, then creating a new game. What better way to maximize profit than to make your game available on multiple platforms. I don't fault them for wanting to make more money with a console release, I do however cringe when I see threads like this. As a former console player in 11, the best move I've made mmo wise is moving to PC. Yeah I had to save up, but it was worth it in the end.
so let me get this straight, you are raging because you console players can't access the benhcmark which is only for pc players to check if their pc can run the game, and an added bonus was a char creation which you will all get when the game comes out. and i am left out of every final fantasy game since final fantasy 8 because i am on pc. BoOHOO cry me a river.
This might be a good reply, if only I was making any of the arguments that you countered.
There are plenty of PC only games, just as there are Console only, and Tablet/phone only, or iOS only, so what's your point?
You obviously didn't read my posts since I haven't bitched about anything in this topic, nor did I say that if consoles can't have it no one should. Quite the opposite actually, since I said that while they could have put out a character creator for the console version, it would detract from the developers time spent on the real game. I stated clearly that I prefer that they focus on the game.
As for my decision not to buy a PC, you can roll that little cart back into your shed too since I have a laptop that's quite capable of playing FFXIV. I have purchased FFXIV for it also, however I choose to play on PS4 because it's pretty much a wash between the two for quality, and the console version of the controller interface feels far more polished.
Honestly, if you're going to flame someone, at least have the courtesy to read their posts (the ones you're replying to) so that you can actually counter what was said, and not what you imagined to be said.
Returning to the OP, I personally find it silly that there is a competition that is open to only one region, and even then only open to a portion of the player base in that region. Despite the fact that I think a console version of the character creator with the same video sequence as the benchmark would make a great game demo tool to drive sales on console, I don't think it's worth the effort at this stage as it would require testing and certification along with all the time and effort to do that, which is better spent on the game.
I don't quite understand why PC gamers don't think console gamers don't have PCs?
In this day and age people need PCs to do alot of things. While things like tablets and phone are probably eating away at the need for PCs, that doesn't mean console gamers don't have PCs. They just choose not to play PC games or don't feel the need to upgrade or buy their PCs
In the end, many of the recent popular PC games aren't even graphically intensive anyways and can work with many older PCs
Ugh this is still going on.
OK here's what you do if you don't have a PC:
1) Find a friend with a PC. You have one. Don't tell me you don't.
2) "Can I use your computer for an hour?"
3) Use the benchmark to make pretty pictures.
4) Submit to the contest
5) Potentially profit
To reiterate, this is NOT a contest exclusively for PC players. We may have a slight advantage, yes, but complaining about that is like me complaining that people who are more artistic than me or people with a Twitter account have an advantage.
em/console <t> Console Players
Wow, I never seen anyone that feels so entitled to something before. Did OP think the Benchmark was on all platforms? You should have seen this coming. lol
For the record, I play on PS4. Do I feel disappointed for not having to fiddle the new race on the character creator? A little bit, but I'll live and deal with it.
Um, I play on a PS4 and just downloaded the benchmark on my laptop to play with the character creator for a while. Totally doable, even considering my laptop can't really run it well.
Of course...
LOL!!
It wasn't sarcasm aimed at you at all. It was aimed (well, I was hoping it was aimed) at the "injured innocence" of people (not necessarily including the OP) who immediate assume that they have been slighted somehow simply because something that they are unable to easily participate in happens.
I whole heartedly agree with your comment that I will report below;

I can understand the disappointment of not being able to participate, but it's kind of silly to suggest that SE is being unjust by providing an event that some people may have trouble finding a way to/may not be able to participate in. There will always be events and contests that people are unable to participate in, that's kind of out of SE's control.
If you have trouble setting up a Twitter account, or getting to a PC where you can use the benchmark character creator, that's a bummer - but guess what? There'll be other contests! Contests that YOU can participate in, and other people cannot.
I don't think there's a problem with SE catering events to specific communities and subsets of this community, so long as the rewards for those contests are available though other means/contests that those who missed out on the previous contest may have a chance of participating in.
Go to Google get a pic of an Au Ra and post it under the guide lines. Won't be your Au Ra but it will get you in on the competition.
I am very curious how you built a PC that pulls 8k at max when my cheap PC that pulls 5-6k cost like 50% more than I paid for my PS4 (600ish before taxes and shipping for pc parts not including case over $350 for my PS4) using on sale parts (ordered from the cheapest REPUTABLE sites) that are outdated (what with even a GTX660 costing just under half the price of a PS4 and lets be real at that point spend the extra $20-30 to get a 960) <.<
not starting a console vs pc thing here I am just legitimately curious as I may be interested in upgrading if its going to be less than $350 for all the parts for a full PC (minus the case of course I can just keep reusing mine until it rusts for all I care its just a box) thats going to run the game almost 30% better
trust me this isn't worth it I tried arguing about the bench mark in a similar way got bashed in so many ways on the matter it started out as a request then escalated in to a over 10 page hell hole while I think it's unfair still in not arguing it any more cause you know people.
I'm kind of stumped on this thread.
People keep on bringing up, "PS4 Players" being left out. You mean to tell me you have a PS4 (which is upwards of 400 dollars), but no capable computer, laptop, or access to either? Or hell, a friend, parent, or relative with one? Really? I bet there's no local library, internet cafe, or Kinko's nearby either.
Some people even brought up that they only have tablets. You mean like the Surface, or iPad? Both with prices that rival capable laptops? Seems like people are grasping for reasons to complain, to me.
