Edit: you will ALWAYS have idiots that don't know how to play. The problem with 2.0 and 2.1 there was Fates giving retarded amounts of exp. So people leveled by spamming skills until dungeons were buffed. That has nothing, NOTHING, to do with the item level.

So you're saying people want to do something that takes them a long time but eventually results in the same rewards as doing coil. But there's the problem you see, top tier gear should only come from the hardest challenges in the game and for just about every MMO i've ever played the hardest content is a raid. Just because something takes a long time to get doesn't make it hard content. The atma farming is a lengthy process for example but would anyone actually call it hard? Hell no.

So put simply another raid like Coil then but with a different name and seperate lockout?

more options. Something that can be done more regularly. Same difficulty level but possibly an easier learning curve. Something other then funneling every god damn thing into one dungeon.

and those games also have multiple raids, not just one. they also have a good bit of horizontal progression, mixing and matching, min-maxing.

the same can be said of grinding coil. do you have it on farm? yes. is it hard? not any more! once you have content down to a science it no longer becomes difficult. its just a one-hour grind with a weekly lockout. just look at the first coil, if even if we took echo off, it wouldn't be considered hard, because almost everyone knows the content.

What could S-Enix possibly implement, that fits that criteria that isn't a raid though? 5 New primal fights like Titan Ex but tuned for i90-100 players would be the closest thing I could think of.

And no if it has a easier learning curve the fight probably means it's more forgiving which has to mean its not as difficult as another similar fight.

1) IF people are asking for more raids then bring it on, im 100% okay with that. Hypothetically if tomorrow S-enix released a patch with another raid that worked in a fashion similar to coil and dropped equal gear I would have no problem with that. But for some reason I don't think everyone who is complaining about not being to get 110 gear would be happy with that solution even though they have more of the options that they wanted apparently.
2) Just because I have a fight on farm doesn't make it objectively less of a hard fight. I can have t9 on farm and I also may have t1 on farm. Because I have them both on farm can I then say objectively T1=T9?

Leviathan drops an ilvl 95 weapon that can be upgraded to ilvl100. Thornmarch extreme drop ilvl100 accessories.

At the start farming the relic weapons first took priority over farming philo for DL so that you can do primal and coil.

In patch 2.1 we had myth farming, CT, Primals, Ultima's Ballad, Weekly quests, Primal Focus, that gave us Rowena tokens rewarding ilvl 90 weapons that were in some cases way better than relic, etc.

Most of which isn't a luxury in 2.2 because that's a lot of content to implement.

They can easily spread gear coil efficient gear through content.

Beastmen dailies offering 1 armor piece for completing depending on their lore, etc. Sahagin could've given a necklace, Kobolds could've given a helm or chest piece.
Primals can start dropping more than just weapons, rings, and necklaces.
Soldiery could've been slightly more rewarding stat wise, with so many pieces not helping with accuracy you're left on average with 2-3 pieces worth owning for coil.
Sand/Oil could have been placed else where.

It would've probably also helped a lot of players if Novus wasn't delayed, That stat customization sounds like it would be real helpful with the accuracy requirements.

In 2.3 CT2 may be a help to downing SCoB and so on.

There's alternatives the thing is that the balance isn't well rounded.

So in other words as a BLM if I cared for the stressful coil environment. Lets just assume I was in a group that could down T6 but not T7 this would've have been my alternative progression as well as others in my party. Current progression route is.

Animus/Novus
2-3 pieces of soldiery
Thornmarch necklace
1-3 pieces from T6 (On average just nulls having to work on soldiery and thornmarch)

Which is on average a 4 piece upgrade.

Yet with alternatives it would mean that overtime we would have a reliable set to do coil for coil gear. Instead of having to figure out weather or not pieces from soldiery are worth the time investment or not.

For everyone arguing that people only wanted more options to coil and not handouts. May I present this post.

Uhhh you can get a full i100 set before ever setting into coil. My main is i94 and im on t8 and I'm sure people who are clearing t9 are not much higher than i100 either. ilvl doesn't mean anything if you don't meet the accuracy requirement. I'm ilvl 96 sure as hell not gonna be doing T6 with 395 accuracy and 2 pieces that can increase my accuracy by a total of 29 isn't gonna magically make it better. This gear I'm building is just for dungeons and vanity and nothing else, now I can myth farm without having to care about the other dps spot pulling his/her weight.

So unless there's some magical formula that allows players to get ilvl100 with a reliable set of gear that gives them the proper distribution of gear you don't have a reliable set of gear you have pieces of loot scatters all over the place that give small boosts to your overall stats. Especially when that progression itself takes weeks upon weeks to achieve.

Yet the concept flies right by you and for obvious reasons as well.

God forbid we have a balanced form of progression / instead of the constant flatline - that can only be fixed via echo.

@ Gomorgon, my god man. There are 3 i90 sets (Myth/Allagan/Crafted+materia) plus i100 soldiery. There's already plenty of options there to make an entry level set of "reliable gear" for second coil. You can easily make a set by mixing those 4 sets and still be going into coil with ilvl95 and meeting the accuracy requirements.

You're a BLM right? T6 accuracy cap is 450. If you buy every piece of whethered gear except the choker and use that full set with the moogle choker and the normal Allagan rings for one of your rings. Use either the animus/upgraded Levi weapon and eat the right food. You'll have an ilvl99 set with 457 accuracy. That took me 2mins to plan... There's your "reliable gear set". Not getting into a personal attack, because I think there are valid arguments on both sides. If you want something of equal difficulty, are you simply looking for more variety in that there are multiple raid instances, and the gear is spread out between them? Next question I have as well. What are your thoughts about having the current Coil toned down, but a new hard or extreme version that drops better gear? So basically, you would need to go through the toned down version to gear up to then attempt the new harder version? Would that alleviate some of the gearing concern?

1.) So that I don't put words in your mouth, you would be ok with a non hard mode version that drops hypothetically 110, and then the hard mode drops 115 and the weapon 120? The only real comparison I have is to WoW, and I don't recall there being a lot of complaining that heroic dropped better gear than the regular. What I'm suggesting is a similar route.

2.) I agree that it should have went CT then Coil, and IIRC, they were going to have CT and Coil at launch, and pulled CT because they felt it was too hard. That seems to me that from there, it was going to be a snowball of Coil before CT. With that said, I don't think they can really "reset" this cycle until an expansion, unless they push back a Coil release even further.

Now taking a step further, here is the logic I see would happen. They would probably have to tune Coil to be done with CT gear in mind, which makes Coil even harder than it is now, since if they didn't make it harder, those FC / LS's already clearing SCoB would be clearing even faster. In that sense, have they accomplished anything different than what we have now?

And this is one of the potential problems. If too many of the coil crowd start setting the bar of entry above 101, then this starts to impact the ability of anyone who doesn't choose to do coil to participate. I don't know if that sort of thing is healthy for the rest of the game.

I think that gets to the crux of this argument. Why does it matter if the best gear is Coil or not (based on the original post of this thread)? If the best gear isn't in Coil, then very few, if any, would be running Coil if the best gear isn't there. It sounds like the real issue isn't the gear, since hypothetically, you could have i200 and still wouldn't clear the content if you can't do the mechanics. The real issue seems to be the mechanics and how demanding you feel they are. In that sense, it's a totally different argument and whether the best gear is in Coil seems moot since it's not going to help you clear the content.

Except nothing is stopping the players who don't meet that "bar of entry" (don't really agree with this phrase as it implies that you must group with those players setting this threshold) from banding together and progressing upwards. i90 is more then enough for any bunch of players to get together, learn and progress above that i101 you spoke of.

Yeah it's getting old and sickening. He likes it the older FF titles like FF7, where the end game bosses such as Ruby and Emerald can be cheesed by getting all the ultimate weapons for all your characters (which doesn't drop from the game's toughest fight), equipping them with the game's most powerful summon - Knights of the Round (obtained by breeding chocobos, not even a boss fight!) and combo them with things like Mime=Counter combination to keep up the KotR summon chain and beat the superboss.

If anything older fights with Hp based transitions are more annoying with echo and better gear because phases can change at horrible times and pugs don't tend to throttle dps.

You were complaining that there weren't many options to gear before starting coils for a "reliable coil set" I provided you with one that got you to i99 with the required accuracy where you didn't ever need to step into coil for. Now you want to be able to get it in 2mins as well? You really do want everything handed out to you as well don't you?

To many having the best gear and challenging the end-game content means that it's no longer gear that's gonna be the reason that a group of people will be able to kill it but skill.

A lot of people still would but then again, you'll just try and justify yourself by trying to say it's not a challenge because there's no gear. Which if funny because there's people still doing old content that's not relevant anymore.

No what this game lacks is slowly transitioning it's player base into understanding standard raid mechanics outside of tank n spank since tank n spank is usually what you do 90% of the time with most dungeon bosses in FFXIV besides some unique ones.

I've been in many MMO's that have a balanced gear progression that stems well outside of just raiding so that you can raid more reliably. Yet just like everyone else you seem to assume that I or anyone else is asking for the same equivalent ilvl gear from Coil.

I ain't asking for a ilvl110 set outside of Second Coil of Bahamut yet "gear sets" that help down bosses. Ilvl100 Gear with poison resist to ease turn 6's and balanced stats for raiding that don't force players out of their accuracy requirements and aren't lacking with their secondary stats either. Yet keep assuming I want ilvl100 gear with 1M of every stat so I can go into coil and 1HKO everything on sight.

I am getting the feeling some of those pro-coil arguments are based on contentselling, it seems like "some" fear they no longer can sell coil runs...
I mean: Um... total blocking of arguments is not right, there must be something behind it... (its like talking to a wall)

Both sides have good arguments, but what i miss is a real discussion where you get the feeling of beeing heard.
Currently we just have "walls" talking trying to negate the others arguments...

As a ex pro end game player, no. The average end game player doesn't care about content selling. Many of the elitists that are in end game thought have a sadistic superiority complex and god forbid you take their one pleasure in life that allows them to justify insulting other players.

There's no need for special gear sets, the content is balanced against the gears you can get now in the game, and there's the materia system for you to adjust your stats accordingly. There's no need for SE to be spending their time and create special gear sets for just one boss of a fight, it's a complete waste of resources and time. Additionally, secondary stats won't make or break your DPS/Mitigation/Healing in coil, it's good to have but its not neckbreak must-have. You sound like you aren't willing to put in the effort to learn the fight or use resources already available in the game.

A gear set is any combination of gear that you can wear that fulfills whatever requirement you have. For example the PLD 2.1 BiS "gearset" included gear from Myth as well as Allagan to form one gear set. Just because gear doesn't share the same name doesn't mean it's not classified as a set when mixed and matched but please continue to spout more of your nonsense.
