So are you going to drop it and go, or...

It would feel far more warranted if anything actually happened to us our our allies. But instead we manage to avert a universal threat with not even a scratch on our bodies. We already got multiple lunch dates, chill time with the loporris, magical girl adventures with Yshtola. When is enough, enough?
I didn't even DO the Tataru quests(couldn't really care about them), I don't know why you're lumping me with this.
And no, I'm not complaining for the sake of complaining. What? You think I'm going to ask for them to change it? They already made the decision to go ahead and their stance is "if you don't want to do it, skip the relic quest" as is many people's here. My point is, we shouldn't have to make the choice in the first place, they should've been separate.
As for ShB's relics the only thing that was meh imo was the initial step of getting the weapon.
Because they inserted the word 'hate', which seems to rub you the wrong way, into their question? Obviously someone who simply dislikes it and who is less pedantic than you are is not going to reframe the question, and will simply answer it. So why frame the question that way in the first place? :) Should that not be the starting point? Moreover, why take an example of a person offering a fairly calm explanation of why as a good example to base your entire point on in the first place?
Take a good, hard look in the mirror.Quote:
You really love to throw labels and terms out to overdramatize everything constantly out of fairly harmless conversations.
Never, we saved the universe. Its Vacation time mate. Let the good times roll before the next big bad pops I'd say. Not everything has so be so serious all the time. If the content is too relaxed. You could always just play a different game a little while and come back. I am happy we get any content at all and they are breaking away from the formula a little bit.
They aren’t even really breaking away from the formula though. We have the same amount of zones, same amount of trials, same amount of dungeons. The only new thing is criterion dungeons. Relic quests are most likely going to be the same overall outside of them being hildibrand themed and probably a living joke. It’s always vacation time since ShB. There’s never been a threat anymore since the WoL and the scions are invincible lmao.
I don't like Hildibrand I think his brand of humor is garbage. But other people like him and that's fine, we have different tastes.
It also depends how far we need to go into his questline as well.
There's too much we don't know even if my current decision is a pass.
As it stands, yes, it is actually making me consider if I want to skip out on the relic this expansion I dislike him that much.
No one is excluding you except yourself. You could easily do the relic still and skip the story. It's OK to have different opinions about content. It's OK not to like everything. I don't blame other people for liking content when I don't, I just don't partake in that content.
Personally, I do not think there should be any side content prerequisites for relic related content. Ivalice being required in ShB was as big of a mistake as requiring all of Hildibrand: it forces players to potentially interact with content they do not find enjoyable for the sake of generating a lead in to a long grind fest. In reality, doing the side content the relic is based off of should just provide the player with alternate dialogue and additional context more than anything.
What I find most appalling is the community shredding itself over differences of opinion. It is rather telling when people who enjoy particular pieces of content refer to it as "making this group suffer" when they are told they need to do old side content to do relevant content, particularly related to relic which is something people do play the game to grind out. Understand when I say this, it may seem targeted at a specific group of players, however it is not, there are other cases of this that I have witnessed through the years of me playing the game where people refer to it as such.
Personal attacks on other community members will not help out the community, let alone this discussion. It shows specific people do not really care about the game and its development. Rather, for these individuals, all they care about is watching players that do not do specific pieces of content that they enjoy suffer through it.
While I know the devs would (hopefully) never do this, consider if the requirement for the relic was completion of the previous Ultimate Raids, or even Savage Raids. It is a rather extreme example but sometimes these examples are required to show why making specific arguments are inherently flawed.
I’m just simply remarking on your false statement. We’re getting the same content we always do with only 1 new thing, which is typically the go to for every expansion, there’s usually one “new” shiny thing. Look at stormblood and eureka, ShB and ishgard restoration etc.
So putting humor in our grind and giving exploration area a break is not breaking a formula after two expansions?
Edit: Adding a new thing, if it is one "shiny new thing" is either adding to or changing the formula. Just saying. If you are seeking drastic changes to fit around your taste. A new game is an option or take a break.
Idk, color me blind, it sounds like to me based on your statements you haven't like the game for quite awhile.
The thing is, it's been like this since the beginning. The original ARR relic unlocked the HM primals, Chimera, and the Hydra, and you had to do ALL of them to get the relics, as well as run a bunch of other optional side content like HM dungeons. The relic quest and initial unlocks have been like this since the beginning, and hasn't changed in that aspect. You either accept this and do it anyway, or you do not and you never touch the relic. Those are the options here.
Hmm, I am getting the vibes you two care more about being right than the game changes. To say a change from the usual is not a change, thats a weird definition of change, formula, etc. Just sounds like to me you guys want a different game. Which is totally okay, nothing wrong with that.
Also anyone arguing that its not fair to do a seperate questline before doing the relic, either you are new to relics or forgot what a relic is about. Its a grind reward system to essentially supplement dungeons, trials, etc. for new players. Its meant to take a little bit of work. I seen very little argument when CT Questline became mandatory and I know quite of few who didn't care for Graha Tia at first.
Again, how much ofcthe msq is light hearted and how much of it is serious? When is enough enough? I think we're all wondering the same thing about you guys. What Scion in the history of the game has gotten scratches from anything? You act like we just beat everything with no qualms whatsoever which is far from true. I've already explained earlier that the scions already have solid foundations as people by this point. Things like despair ain't going to phase them personally same for Zenos though for different reasons.
Also this is SIDE CONTENT. Skip it if you don't like it. It's not an issue. The writers are allowing the Scions to live like actual people, not Uber edgelords that have little to n fun or enjoyment outside of conflict in their lives
Anyways, yall take it easy. Take a breath, have a cup of coffee or something. Its not the end of the world guys. We just prevented that :)
What scion has gotten scratches? Let’s see….
Thancred lost his ability to manipulate Aether.
Yshtola lost her sight and at least before it was retconned was proclaimed to be slowly sapping away her life energies
Papalymo sacrifices himself
Most of the scions in the waking sands were massacred or given life threatening injuries
I didn’t even mention anything about despair affecting them. Sure we can handwave that, but they’ve been injured and or died to far weaker foes than the likes of Endsinger, or unsundered ancients. Yet it’s against these foes that they lost nothing. Instead we get constant slice of life scenes and the budget goes towards said scenes, with Yoshi P himself stating the most expensive thing to animate this expansion was Estinien’s foot on a balcony. Imagine if instead of all these slice of life scenes, we could have gotten a cinematic of Hydaelyn vs Zodiark, something actually rich in lore and the foundation of the games life rather than burger eating, date scenes, or yshtola acting like a 5 yr old magical girl.
I think people's concern is that we just went from literally saving the universe with the PoWEr oF FrIeNdShIp, and now the relic weapon quests, normally used to give mid/end game players something to grind out in content downtime and also add to the game's lore and worldbuilding, is being relegated to Silly Man Doing Silly Things and potentially losing a Field Operations zone. There's a very particular tone shift in my opinion. I watched somebody playing ARR the other day, and it shocked me how different in tone it was. It felt like a final fantasy game. It was grittier, the stakes weren't higher but they felt real. it had its own identity, one that wouldn't be too far from ff1-10. What do we see now? Half of Eorzea looks like they should be in a korean boy band, not a final fantasy game. Much of the stuff we see now is very surface level, and erring into shonen/slice of life anime territory. Which is fine, but it's not exactly what a lot of people were playing for. I do not see people engage with this argument much, they tend to respond to imaginary strawman arguments.
And also just to add, I was able to figure out what annoys me about the Hildi quests so much. The animation, cutscenes and special effects etc are of a much higher quality than anything you'd see in an MSQ cutscene. There's more well done scenes in SB hildy than there was in the entirety of the last expansion, you know, the big finale to end a saga. It's weird. Why spend this much time on a naked man with a hammer in a side-quest 50% of people wont do and 25% will skip when there's REALLY important scenes in the MSQ where it either gets left to the imagination or my character stands there like a mannequin nodding like a car dashboard figurine...
Last I checked Ysh's eyesight was never retconned. It's was said her life was draining that doesn't mean she'd die soon. And Thancred can't manipulate aether which happened in ARR, and hasn't had anything happened to him since until ShB with his near death fight with Ranjit (folks call that a cop out ofc) and then nothing til EW. Papy is indeed gone, the only main one outside of maybe Meon to do so, and even that wasn't until SB for him.
Yes the scions have been injured by weaker foes than the endsinger but they have gotten stronger same as us. And unless you missed it we got them out of there to avoid them getting hurt further. They weren't around for Zodis fight so we have no guage there. Also again with these "we get constant slice of life scenes". How often do we REALLY get those in the story? I've asked you to find this out like 3 times now. As for your lore right cutscene? We already got that in the Venat sundering. That's one of if not the best cutscene in the entire game and I'm FAR from the only person who thinks this. Same for the other scenes in the game. Battling n new animations all over the place in EW unlike anything we've seen so far from the game, yet folks are upset about burgers...oh and Ysh's magic girl bit is indeed character development something your crowd has complained about Scions not having but I guess thats bad now too?
And frankly wtf does any of this have to do with Hildy weps? Take the EW distain to that 6k post thread
Ive run through the entire hildabrand questline upto the newest content in less then 2 days on an alt quite recently. If this is considered "a grind" or "too much" for you, then relic weapons were probably not going to be for you in the first place.
It's coming in a year. It's also not an MMO. We also have no idea whether it will live up to the hype. You are just bleating "go play something else" to someone explaining their concerns and offering their feedback about the game in the (perhaps vain) hope that the devs listen (...on a site they put out there for this express purpose, no less) and thus that it remains or shifts back to something they want to play, whilst trying to pretend that side-content that is at best parenthetic to the game's identity is somehow core to it. Give it a rest.
Not really, I appreciate they're leaning into fantasy aspects more than the hi-tech stuff we've seen recently (13, 15), I am concerned that it's going to essentially be a reskinned FF15 and the lack of turn based party combat is a deal breaker for me. I hope it does well though so staff can work on 14 more. There's still more in FF14 that I like rather than dislike. It's just that i've been in similar MMO communities in the past, and I always regretted not speaking my opinion when things happened I and others didn't like. And then before I knew it, the game was totally different from what I'd have wanted it to be. So I feel like i've a vested interest in just "saying it as it is" when it comes to issues in this game. My complaints come from a place of passion, not malice. I want to see this game succeed well into the future, I just don't think the light-hearted tone will do much for people in the long run. It's like sweets, they're nice in small amounts, but if you eat too much you'll get sick. That's how I feel about all the derpy slice of life stuff haha.
Maybe one day I will decide that my time spent has been enough, and maybe the game will "move away" from me so to speak, but until I feel that day's here, I'll call out anything I feel I need to
If you have done Hildy, you should consider doing the Scholasticate quests. They provide an example of a character from the Hildy storyline where it isn't a slapstick comedy story. Considering we've only see Godbert for this, it's very possible this will go the same way. He clowns when he's with his son, but he's a highly respected member of the Syndicate, a successful businessman who owns the Gold Saucer, moonlights at the winter holidays as the Saint of Nymeia, and is renowned as a master goldsmith. It's that last bit that makes it very possible these will be some amazing weapons, as you have the blacksmith who can imbue souls into weapons with arguably the finest craftsman around.
I think you misunderstand, Hydra and Chimera were unlocked as a consequence of doing the relic itself. There were no prerequisites to the ARR relic other than beating 2.0. Hard modes you could unlock prior to doing the relic, and while they are required, they were not needed before the actual relic started unless you wanted them or had ilvl issues trying to complete the other hard modes. The issue deals with prerequisites, not doing other pieces of content for the relic after the relic has been opened up.
Oh I love the Scholasticate , it is the reason I did ARR Hildibrand initially. My issue is if it is just Godbert why is the entire quest required and not simply ARR Hildibrand only? Godbert has also appeared in the MSQ during Stormblood as the owner of Gold Saucer. The fact every part is required really just doesn't fill me with with a ton of hope this won't be more of that.
Yshtola's life draining has never been mentioned since, not even a remark upon her have significant more draining in ShB due to being away from her body etc. As for your Venat's cutscene comment.....Its one of the worst lore ones. It portrays events inaccurately and out of order and is all via her biased perspective. As for how this is relevant, one of the reasons this was brought up was due to the seriousness of the story and hildibrand being more slice of life comedy which was prevalent in EW.
As for the slice of life scenes, what do you want me to go and count each and every one? you do that if it bothers you so much. Again, the most expensive animation this expansion was a slice of life fluff scene. Talk about mismanagement of resources.
I'm incredibly curious why it will unlock with the Somewhat Further line myself. But I trust that they have a solid reason. There's something in the questline up to that point that is going to be important or at least will establish something that needs to be established. We may not even fully understand the connection until we're at the end of the questline.
The unlock quest for the hard modes back in the ARR era was A Recurring Problem. This has never changed since 2.0. I have been around since September 2013 but never posted on the forums until earlier this year as i have never seen the need to. You absolutely needed to compete the Hard Modes to unlock The Binding Coil of Bahamut but they were never gated by relic.
But he shows up before the Somewhat Further line. So if it's just knowing him, then the unlock could be up to a certain point in the Hildy progression. It is possible we're going to see Gilgamesh again in the current line and it needs the events earlier in the line to happen. That would not surprise me in the slightest.
Was all biased towards her view? Wtf was biased about us being in her place walking towards Hades? What was biased about the fact she KNOWS conflict will come from those who will come after her? Where was it confirmed that her pleading to her people and them refusing is just her bias? Hate Venat all you want but keep your injection out of that. And last I checked something not being mentioned isn't a retcon...and yes Slice of life was prevalent yet wasn't the majority. Folks just laser focus on that aspect same as you. Also the story and all the seriousness is done for now. Is this not the best time to get into full on jokey stuff? And again...no one even knows if the quest line will be all jokes. Yall are once again assuming it is and adding more to the cesspool that is these forums. The Omega quest line isn't jokey, nor is the Pandemonium one or the alliance one we have. Yet let one other piece be POTENTIALLY fun n jokes and yall throw fits.
It's ridiculous at this point
No worries, the only reason I recall that was because I did Garuda HM back then and grinded for the SCH book only to realize afterward that a relic existed and it was a better weapon overall...I was not exactly happy over the waste of time when I realized I could've been doing working towards Omnilex instead and only needing that fight once.
