Lagg upon lagg upon lagg

The lagg on the servers is totally unacceptable, it is almost constant on the server lich and makes the game unplayable for raids and dungeons

i pinged the servers and got back 124 ms

i live in sweden and SE have the EU servers in Canada. Yes.... Canada thats right you read it correct, last time i checked Canada isnt a part of Europe!

So is SE doing anything about this? getting better servers? planning to open a server hall in EUROPE?

i will be forced to stop playing this game if this isnt fixed soon

i have tried removing the router, i have tried my other computer and checked my internet speed so the problems doesnt lie on my side.

my friend who plays the game also has this problem

I am in uk. works fine for me. It also works fine for me.

Thing is this. While your internet connection may be working fine, The servers are also working fine. There could however be a problem at one of the hops your connection takes to the server.
I do not have the server IP so i wouldn't be able to help you check this.

If you can however find out the server ip you would be able to check each hop and see where the problem is. If would think if it was a server problem EVERYONE on your server would have having the same problem.

124 ms should be perfectly fine and virtually unnoticeable. It sounds like you may have one of the ISPs that is throttling FFXIV as if it were P2P software so you're getting spikes as a result. That, or, as the previous poster said, there may be an issue at one of the "hops" the connection takes between you and the game servers. Every ISP routes connections differently so it isn't something SE can control directly. Honestly I think some ISPs need a kick in the head because I've seen hops that go halfway around the world the wrong way before reaching the destination. There's no reason it should take almost 20 hops to get from EU to the FFXIV game servers.

Sorry but these are excuses, decent MMOs have separate European and NA data centres because that provides better performance - less hops, less hubs to go through, less lag spikes (and smaller lag spikes) and less packet loss, that an MMO asking for a sub does not have separate data centres is a joke.

I have no lagg whatosever at any time. Maybe I'm just lucky? or maybe it's your ISP and not the servers?

This is NOT a terrible ping. You should still be able to play smoothly and dodge with this.

Mining/harvesting lag is incredibly annoying. It's horrible around primetime, and then disappears entirely late at night. SE, your servers suck. Get new ones.

Just so everyone understands, lag does not usually effect you during battles (other than FPS lag) because your abilities can actually fire off whether or not you're connected to the server. The damage is the only thing that is calculated server-side.

It's entirely different for mining/harvesting. The action cannot be performed, like a weapon skill, without receiving a response from the server. The same is true for crafting.

Judging from Google results it does not play fine, the reality is basic physics and networking mean localised data centres give better performance, which is why many games go to the expense of having separate data centres, your excuses don't alter that fact.

Shorter distance doesn't automatically mean fewer hops, or better performance from said hops or the cabling used between them. People need to think twice before stating things like this.

Why is it that there are always people on these forums that do nothing but try to defend the poor state the servers are in? You'd have to be blind to not see the constant stuttering the servers are experiencing. I can't speak for other servers, but Odin lags like a <expletive> every night. EVERY. NIGHT. Doesn't matter what day, from monday to sunday, constant lag spikes during EU primetime well into the night. So why do you people feel the need to belittle the problem, or have the audacity to suggest that the problem is on the user's end, when it's pretty clear it's not. Most MMOs use regional servers for a good reason, it's not some crazy new invention.

Perhaps you should think twice... Does it for example mean more hops / better performance in all cases no, but on average it does, which is why companies go to the expense of separate data centres.

Again you need to think again, based on how the ISPs decide to handle the data and how the routers themselves have been programmed, which routers are currently up/down, the latency of the cables at a given time of day CAN cause you to be sent through more hops and this happens on a regular basis.

Yes, clearly the rest of us are just too stupid to use our willpower to make the servers not stutter during primetime, despite being able to play every other game, and connect to every other service without problem. How about you stop assuming that we are a minority? Most of us that have this problem just had enough of people like you, and the fact that nothing is being done about it, and moved on.

If it didn't play fine it wouldn't have lasted 11 years and still be going. Naturally a localized data center would give better results.
It does not however mean that playing the game where it is would make the game unplayable. I know this to be fact as i have played FFXI and i also have no problems in my server in Canada and i am playing from the UK.

I am sure i could google any other mmo out there and find server problems even with localized servers. Therefore my points are valid and therefore are not as you like to point out excuses.

Erm, yes I know that, it is also irrelevant to the point that localised data centres give better performance and that the routing issues at peak times are just exacerbated by not having a separate European data centre.

Maybe it isn't a case of defending but more of a case of pointing out other factors that could be causing the problem. You know... trying to be helpful in some small way.

Maybe there are prime time problems to do with too many connections etc but as silly as it may appear to you not every single connection problem will be that.

Not really at all, i've played many MMO's on both US and EU servers from within the EU. And here's a bit of information for you, having localised servers with the internet speeds we have access to now isn't a magical cure-all fix for most problems people encounter as most of the time it's how an individuals ISP is handling the data, the quality of the route being sent down which local or none local servers have no control over, or it's the coding of the servers themselves (which even if the server was in your back yard you would still get bad lag).

Since you seem to have all the answer, and are so willing to heap all the blame on the end user, would you like to comment on the fact that this is happening across multiple countries and ISPs? Or how about the fact that after playing something close to 20 different MMOs in my time, with a healthy amount of them on US servers (most notably WoW, EQ2 and Warhammer) this is the first time I've experience this sort of constant stuttering and lag spikes during prime time, any word on that?

Alright, I admit that I am slightly agitated over this, as this has been going on for weeks now. But my point is, however crudely I've tried to made it, that it's very likely that the problem is, if not entirely, at least partially on S-Es end. Okay? If a person would be experiencing these problems on multiple overseas services, then you could make a case that it's on their end. But trying to find the fault on the user's end is really not helping anyone, because we need to actually get an official word out of Square-Enix regarding this matter.

The point i try to make in a lot of these threads is that you can't always blame the location of the servers, as i said in one previous post in this thread, if the coding of the server is extremely bad even having the server in your back garden won't fix this. And the problem can also occur in places outside of both SE and the end user's hand which lies with the ISPs and how they decide to handle data as they do not handle every MMO's data the same way (example being how many people are being p2p throttled for FFXIV but there's also people who are not being affected by it). And as i also stated i get no lag on my server of hyperion, but on yours of odin you do. So that could indicate that there is a problem with whatever hardware is being used to host/run odin.
Most likely it is due to the programming SE has their end for their servers due to the fact that even people within canada itself have problems from time to time, but without any real truthful answers given to us by SE the best we can do is calmly discuss this to avoid threads getting deleted/locked from discussions getting out of hand.

If i was to give an honest answer i would end up leaning towards blaming ISP's mostly due to bias from myself being forced to use a bad one haha.
But in fairness it is most likely something their end, whether it be coding or lower grade (in terms of data capacity) servers being used on purpose due to them thinking they would be getting fewer players than expected.

Some of the lengthy/in depth testing and reports people have posted in the bug/tech problems section of these forums have been moved to accepted and duplicates have been moved to the duplicate section, which most probably means they accept their is a problem and in all likely hood they won't give us a fair response till they have an acceptable solution to it, given the amount of time it took them to reply to it on the beta forums when the problem was much much worse in phase 3 of beta.
There isn't much else we can do other than wait or provide more feedback, though very annoying for people that are constantly having this problem.

The only lag I get is in AK and CM and from what I can tell is due to the huge amount of people spamming it over and over, which I'll admit needs to be fixed. Any other lag issue is down to the ISP's and for a lot of them is a well known issue by SE, but the providers are still making things difficult. Either SE is not doing enough to fix the issue or the ISP's are being stubborn and in my experience the latter could very well be more likely.

I read a line on here I think by someone saying Yoshi-P is effectively the tank in the party taking all the hate for the company. Well in this case I would say SE are the tank, and the internet is the rest of the party.

It's incredibly easy to blame SE for this problem seeing as they placed the data centres so far away, however it's most likely an issue with your ISP so instead of blaming the easiest target and getting no results, why not look into all possibilities and give your ISP a call? Pings aren't the be-all end-all to bad connections anyway.

Odin still has constant queues, as well as duty instance queues, so it's fair to assume that the server cluster is constantly over capacity, and has been since the early access. The frustrating part is, that when they should've done decisive upgrades, they chose to apply bandage fixes, mostly for financial reasons. They want to see the population count stabilize before committing to anything, which is rather unfair to paying customers. Of course, this is all speculation on my part, could be that they simply don't know what the problem is, or have decided that not enough people are affected by it.

I have this problem too from norway. 7-11pm every night 5-30 second freezing... so much for EU server....
